Not to date myself, but I came up in a time when first-person shooter video games were picking up in popularity. I latched on to "Counter-Strike" during my first year of undergrad in 2001. The whole floor of my dorm was male engineers only. It was a perfect haven for LAN parties. While some of my classmates practiced with rifles, I tended toward the "spray and pray" options. My reasoning was simple:
If I fire enough bullets in the video game, I'm bound to hit somebody.

However, I (quickly) found a flaw in my plan. More ammo didn't necessarily equate to a stronger KDA ratio in the game. I was cannon fodder! Instead of flinging shells, controlled bursts and a coordinated approach were the right play — not my Leroy Jenkins impersonation. And as we get to the end of our drafts, that's how we should be approaching picks we think of as just throwaways.
