President Donald Trump's administration says it has approved the sale of nearly 50 F-35 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia in a policy shift for the US that has raised concerns from some members of Congress.
Saudi Arabia has sought for years to buy the world's most advanced warplane, equipped with stealth technology that allows it to evade enemy detection.
Washington had resisted, partly because it supplies F-35s to its ally Israel, which is guaranteed under US law to receive top-of-the-range American weapons compared with those its regional neighbours can access.
Congress has 30 days to scrutinise or attempt to block the $24bn (£17.8bn) sale to Riyadh, which is the largest customer for US weapons.
Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi of Illinois, a Democrat, opposed the sale on Thursday.

On August 5, Clear Channel Outdoor Holdings Inc. (NYSE:CCO) reported second-quarter results that showed the billboard and airport advertising company accelerating just as it prepares to leave the public markets. On February 9, Clear Channel agreed to be acquired by an investor consortium advised by Mubadala Capital for $2.43 per share, a deal stockholders approved on May 12, and one expected to close by the end of the third quarter of 2026. Because of the pending Merger, Clear Channel skipped its usual earnings call and offered no forward guidance.
Consolidated revenue climbed 8.7% to $438.0 million in the quarter and 10.2% to $811.9 million over the first half, with the 2026 FIFA World Cup pulling in extra advertising spend across both of Clear Channel's segments. The America division, which houses the roadside billboard and street furniture business, grew revenue 7% to $324.3 million as demand from technology advertisers in the San Francisco/Bay Area market broadened out and digital billboard revenue rose 7.2% to $122 million. Airports revenue jumped 14% to $113.6 million, helped by strong demand at San Francisco
International Airport and digital sales that climbed 15.6% to $73.4 million, with national advertisers now accounting for 57.8% of that segment's revenue. Profitability grew even faster than the top line. Adjusted EBITDA rose 11.6% to $143.4 million for the quarter and 19% to $247.3 million for the first half, while Airports Segment Adjusted EBITDA jumped 22.8% to $29.9 million. Adjusted Funds From Operations climbed 61.6% to $44.9 million in the quarter, and for the first half it went from just $5 million a year ago to $51.5 million. On August 4, Clear Channel also closed the sale of its Spain business for about $132.3 million, proceeds it plans to put toward paying down debt.
The growth did not reach the bottom line. Clear Channel posted a loss from continuing operations of $10 million in the quarter, reversing a $6.3 million profit a year earlier, and the consolidated net loss came to $5 million versus net income of $10.6 million in the same period of 2025. Over six months, the loss from continuing operations widened 21.4% to $59.4 million. Costs rose alongside revenue. Direct operating and SG&A expenses increased 5.9% for the quarter, and Airports site lease expense alone jumped 12.0% to $67.1 million on higher minimum guaranteed payments and the renewed contract with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

The Denver Broncos are releasing a veteran wide receiver just ahead of their season opener.
The Broncos cut receiver Lil'Jordan Humphrey on Monday, according to the NFL's transaction wire. Multiple reporters have dubbed it a "procedural move" as Denver is expected to re-sign LJH as early as Tuesday.

Cincinnati Reds manager Terry Francona's future is drawing attention as the front office looks ahead to next season. Francona has one guaranteed year left on his original three-year contract, plus a club option for 2028. Team president Nick Krall said he doesn't think it is a lame-duck status for someone like Francona. While the transfer window may be shut, Ajax are not quite done yet in reinforcing the squad. According to De Telegraaf, Ajax are just one of a number of sides keen on signing now former Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma. The 30-year-old is a free agent, having left Tottenham this summer. Other sides from top five leagues are interested in the former Tottenham man, so it is by no means guaranteed that Ajax will land the Malian international.

With the season a little more than 24 hours away, Kraft and the Packers agreed to terms on a four-year extension worth $75 million, including a $26.5 million signing bonus, a source confirmed Sept. 12. The deal could go as high as $92 million based on incentives and escalators
Kraft's deal falls just short of the yearly average of San Francisco tight end George Kittle's $19.1 million-a-year deal and does not include the same amount of guaranteed money. But the signing bonus is the highest of any tight end in the NFL.

Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. has dealt with a lot of trade rumors and highest-paid cornerback speculation over the past few months, but the real issue in contract talks is becoming more clear by the day.
According to PennLive's Nick Farabaugh, as well as Porter's own admission that he doesn't care about becoming the highest-paid corner, the contract negotiations are all about guaranteed money.

U.S. consumer prices rose 0.4% from the month before in August, the Labor Department estimated Sept. 11, in line with forecasters' expectations.
A spike in gas prices drove the increase, rising 3.9% over the month as the Iran war further limited the global oil supply. Over the year, prices for all items rose 3.4%, matching July's pace. That was still enough to surpass workers' paychecks, which rose on average 3.1% over the same period.
After reaching a peak of 9.1% in 2022, year-over-year inflation had made its way back to 2.4% at the start of 2026. It jumped to 3.4% in March driven by rising oil and gas prices following the start of the war. After hitting 4.2% in May, it slowed to 3.5% in June and to 3.4% in July.
It, along with the Federal Reserve's preferred measure of inflation, the Personal Consumption Expenditures price index, remain above the central bank's 2% annual target.
The Fed typically raises its benchmark for interest rates across the country to help tame inflation and lowers it to stimulate the job market. After Fed Chair Kevin Warsh said Aug. 28 policymakers' focus should be on rising prices and U.S. employers added a surprising 162,000 jobs last month, markets are betting on a rate hike after the Fed's next meeting on Sept. 16. However, one is not guaranteed.

But Michigan coach Kyle Whittingham was disappointed in the way the Wolverines played, so he made it clear this week that no one's position is guaranteed in the future – including Underwood's.
Underwood seemed caught off guard when learning Whittingham told the media his sophomore signal caller needs to improve to remain the starter.

ESPN's Shams Charania reported that the New Orleans Pelicans are sending Jordan Hawkins, Micah Peavy, a future second-round pick, and a future second-round pick swap to the Memphis Grizzlies for AJ Johnson and Taj Gibson.
The main reason for this trade is pretty simple: New Orleans needed to clear salary before officially adding Bennedict Mathurin on his two-year, $16.0 million deal. Because the Pelicans are using the non-taxpayer mid-level exception to sign him, they can't finish above the first apron afterward, so they had to open enough room under that line first. Memphis is basically getting paid to help the Pelicans clean up the payroll, and I think the Grizzlies did very well here.

Former NBA player Byron Scott won three championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1980s, but he doesn't see this current iteration of the team going all the way. On the latest episode of Byron Scott's Fast Break podcast, Scott was asked whether the new-look Lakers are contenders or pretenders.
"I'm not going to say borderline," Scott said. "They're pretenders… I think they'll make the playoffs, but again, to [Olden Polynice's] point, defense wins championships still in this league. I know we glorify the threes and all the offense and things of that nature, but at the end of the day, you got to get stops, right?
"And [Walker] Kessler at the center position, he better average about eight blocks a game," Scott added. "Because they going to be getting a lot of blowbys, and the guys going to get to that basket."
Walker Kessler is the Lakers' biggest summer acquisition, and they desperately needed a defensive anchor like him. The Lakers gave up two first-round picks and two first-round pick swaps to the Utah Jazz for Kessler and gave him a four-year, $130 million contract as part of a sign-and-trade.
