I last wrote about the dollar index on Barchart on July 23, 2026, when I asked if the index that measures the U.S. currency against the world's other leading convertible reserve currencies. I concluded the article with the following:
A weaker dollar, even if the dollar index moves higher, could fuel inflation, pushing prices of all ***** ets higher, including commodities, stocks, cryptocurrencies, and even bonds if central banks turn on liquidity faucets during a crisis as they did in 2020. Higher ***** et prices may only reflect the declining purchasing power of the world's reserve currency.

Marathon Petroleum (MPC) exhibits strong technical momentum, recently hitting a new all-time high.
Shares are up more than 120% over the past year.
MPC maintains a 100% "Buy" technical opinion from Barchart.
Future performance is highly sensitive to refining margins and oil prices, with downside risk if oil drops to $75 per barrel.
Valued at $116 billion, Marathon Petroleum (MPC) is a leading independent refiner, transporter, and marketer of petroleum products. The company came into existence following the spinoff from Marathon Oil Corporation's refining and sales business into a separate, independent and publicly traded entity. Marathon Oil completed the acquisition of its rival Andeavor. Marathon Petroleum operates in two segments: refining and marketing and pipeline transportation.

Adobe Systems (ADBE) reported strong revenue and free cash flow results for fiscal Q3 on Sept. 10. Free cash flow (FCF) margins were over 40% over the past year. ADBE stock is dirt cheap now at less than 10x earnings and 10x trailing 12-month (TTM) FCF. As a result, shorting ADBE puts and put credit spreads work well for value investors.
ADBE closed at $265.60 on Monday, Sept. 14, up from a recent trough of $248.83 on Sept. 10 before the earnings release. However, the chart below from Barchart shows ADBE has been flat for the past month and a half.

Oil futures have been rising, but recently hit a peak. ConocoPhillips (COP) reported strong Q2 earnings on Aug. 6, and COP stock may be fairly valued. However, shorting COP puts and vertical put credit spreads are attractive alternatives for value investors.
COP closed at $137.35 on Friday, Sept. 11, a recent three-, six-, and 12-month peak. That followed WTI Oct. futures contract (CLV26) spiking above $104 late Thursday, Sept. 10.

The market clearly believes that Conoco's Q3 earnings and cash flow will be strong, given how high oil and gas prices have been this quarter. Barchart's CLV26 chart below shows the recent peak in oil futures.
Oil has been rising due to ongoing tensions and kinetic action between the U.S. and Iran, as well as in other areas in the Middle East where oil is transported.

The dollar index (DXY00) on Friday rose by +0.06%. The dollar found support as a hawkish US CPI report pushed odds of an FOMC rate hike next week up to 88% from 75% on Thursday. Also, the 10-year T-note yield on Friday rose by +0.6 bp, supporting the dollar's interest rate differentials.
Friday's -2.4% decline in oil prices initially caused the 10-year T-note yield to drop, despite the CPI report. However, the CPI report caught up with the T-note market by the end of the day, and the 10-year T-note yield ended slightly higher.

On a year-on-year basis, the Aug CPI report of +3.4% y/y was unchanged from July and was in line with market expectations. Meanwhile, the Aug core CPI report of +2.4% y/y eased slightly from July's +2.5% and posted a new 5.5-year low, and was in line with market expectations.

The weather over the coming weeks and months during the 2026 growing season is critical for the path of least resistance of CBOT soybean and soybean product futures. However, the situation in the Middle East adds complexities beyond the weather and crop to the soybean market, which could cause sudden price volatility.

Michael Burry, the investor made famous by "The Big Short," told readers of his Substack in February that there was "one specific aspect of their financials that I find troubling" about Nvidia (NVDA). The number he pointed at was purchase obligations of $95.2 billion in the company's fiscal 2026 annual report, "up from $16.1 billion the same time last year." Six months later, Nvidia has filed again, and the comparable commitment line is far larger.
The Feb. 26, 2026 post was ******* led "Short Thought: Nvidia Ratchets Up the Risk." Burry's summary of what the figure meant, quoted at the time by CNBC and Business Insider, was blunt: "This is not business as usual. This is risk." The dollar index (DXY00) rose by +0.27% on Tuesday. Soaring T-note yields on Tuesday strengthened the dollar's interest rate differentials and pushed the dollar higher. Also, Tuesday's +5% surge in WTI crude oil to a 6-week high raised inflation expectations, which could potentially persuade the Fed to raise interest rates, a supportive factor for the dollar. It's not often that we use "high yield" and "tech stocks" in the same sentence. However, some of the legacy software and consulting companies have joined the league, thanks to the drawdown in their stocks amid "AI-pocalypse" fears. With artificial intelligence (AI) looking to automate coding and back-office tasks, the "man-hours" model that IT services firms rely on could be at risk. Accenture (ACN) is among the names that have been in the penalty box amid fears that AI would cause large-scale business disruption for the sector. However, such fears have eased, and legacy tech companies, which were considered net AI losers, have jumped sharply from their lows. Looking at some specific stocks, Adobe (ADBE) and Salesforce (CRM) have respectively risen 54% and 76% from their 2026 lows, while Accenture has soared 60%.
Despite the rally, Accenture still has a dividend yield of 3.4%, which is well ahead of the S&P 500 Index ($SPX) average. The company has a long history of paying dividends and started paying a semi-annual dividend in 2005, eventually transitioning to quarterly dividends beginning in 2019. It has increased its payouts every year since its initiation, with an impressive annualized growth of 11.1%. Last year, the company raised its quarterly dividend by 10.1% to $1.63 per share.

Nvidia (NVDA) is printing profits and free cash flow on a scale almost without precedent, yet its dividend has gone nowhere. On Aug. 26, the company reported second-quarter revenue of $96.2 billion, more than double a year earlier, with data-center sales surging 117% year-over-year (YOY) to $89 billion. Those numbers leave little doubt as to whether Nvidia could afford to pay shareholders more.
Despite that capacity, the board left the quarterly dividend unchanged at $0.25 per share. The payout sits exactly where it landed after a dramatic step-up earlier this year, when Nvidia lifted its quarterly dividend from a token $0.01 to $0.25 in May 2026, a 2,400% increase.

The dollar index (DXY00) is down by -0.16% today. The dollar is modestly lower today, consolidating below last Friday's 2-week high. Today's rally in the Chinese yuan to a 3.5-year high is undercutting the dollar.
However, losses in the dollar are limited today as WTI crude oil climbs more than +2% to a 1-week high, which raises inflation expectations and could potentially persuade the Fed to raise interest rates, a supportive factor for the dollar. Also, weaker stocks today have boosted some liquidity demand for the dollar, and higher T-note yields have strengthened the dollar's interest rate differentials. Finally, the dollar has some carryover support from last Friday, when Fed Chair Warsh warned inflation isn't meaningfully slowing and vowed that policymakers will return inflation to their 2% target. The chance of a Fed rate hike at next month's FOMC meeting rose to 63% today from 36% before Warsh's speech.

When it comes to profiting from the current AI boom, you don't necessarily have to invest in the central players. Sure, the likes of Nvidia (NVDA), Micron (MU), and TSMC (TSM) are raking in the money and giving shareholders triple-digit returns.
But sometimes, the better opportunities lie with the companies serving as the foundation of the AI boom. The ones supplying the materials, equipment, and infrastructure that make up the rest of data centers.

That brings us to an interesting matchup in that AI infrastructure play. One company is providing connectivity materials that all data centers need to move all their information across, well, everywhere, while the other supplies the equipment to the chipmakers themselves.
Both companies are pillars of the AI boom, but they're supporting different sides of the sector.

Tesla (TSLA) has apparently ended sales of its Solar Roof tiles, nearly a decade after CEO Elon Musk unveiled the product as a sleek alternative to conventional solar panels. Tesla now only offers customers its standard solar panels, with reports from installers indicating the company is no longer supplying new Solar Roof tiles.

Instead, the company appears to be shifting toward a simpler and potentially more scalable model centered on traditional panels, while continuing to expand its much larger energy-storage business.
