A serving councillor took his own life days after being arrested on suspicion of an online **** ual offence, a coroner has concluded.
Cahal Burke, who died on 9 March, represented the Lindley ward in Huddersfield on Kirklees Council from 2010 until his suspension from the Liberal Democrat party on 4 March. He was mayor for one year in 2023-4.
Burke was arrested in February and was on bail at the time of his death. Following an inquest in writing on 4 August, **** istant coroner Charlotte Keighley ruled the 48-year-old's cause of death was drug toxicity.
West Yorkshire Police said it was "continuing to conduct some inquires as part of our safeguarding responsibilities".
In a report containing her findings, Keighley said Burke's family had visited his home address in Huddersfield on 6 March to check on him, as they had not heard from him for a number of days.

Both Nantz and Wolfson told Yahoo Sports that they've been in contact with Romo since his arrest but they were keeping those conversations private and wouldn't speculate about if and when the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback would return to the broadcast booth.
"I don't want to begin to try to make a comment about that because that's going to be David's decision," Nantz told Yahoo Sports, referring to Berson. "Tony's been a friend of mine for a long time. He was a friend long before CBS put us in the group together. I'm thinking a lot about Tony and his wife, Candice. He's always been a friend of mine for as long as I go. We've always been with him, and naturally, we will be in touch with each other."
Romo, 46, is in the seventh year of a reported 10-year, $180 million contract with CBS, working alongside Nantz and Wolfson and calling three Super Bowls for the network. Berson called Romo's leave of absence a personal and legal issue and wouldn't comment further on his arrest. In deciding to put Romo on leave, Berson said he had to consider the impact on CBS' image and brand.

Kendra and Joseph Duggar have withdrawn their not guilty plea after being charged with four counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor and four counts of second-degree false imprisonment following a search of their Arkansas home.
In March, the reality TV star, 31, who is the younger brother of convicted ****** offender Josh Duggar, and his wife, Kendra, 27, were arrested and charged with false imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child, with sources revealing to People at the time that the accusations came as the result of a "home inspection."

Former NFL defensive end and broadcaster Marcellus Wiley's domestic battery case is over.
Prosecutors in Florida opted not to pursue charges in Wiley's case after his arrest last month, according to both USA Today and TMZ. Monday's decision, per the reports, came after testimonial evidence received in the case was "not corroborated by any physical or other evidence."
Wiley was first arrested on July 4 in Orlando, Florida, on one count of domestic battery. Wiley's wife told police that he had poked her in the face with his finger and threatened to kill her, and that he had "an unreported history of violence toward her," via the The Los Angeles Times. Wiley was released the next day on bond.
Wiley's wife, Annemarie Wiley, a former cast member of "The Real Housewives of Beverley Hills," later accused him of rape and said that he physically abused her and their children. A California judge granted a temporary restraining order against him last month, and she filed for divorce the same day.

Courtney Clenney was sentenced to six years in prison on Monday as she pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the April 2022 stabbing of her boyfriend in their Miami apartment.
Clenney, 30, was facing second-degree murder charges in the April 3, 2022 death of Christian Obumseli, 27, at the One Paraiso condo located in the Edgewater area of Miami. If found guilty, Clenney would face life in prison, but she came up with a deal with the prosecutors of Miami-Dade.
According to the deal, Clenney will serve six years behind bars with time served credits, in addition to five years of probation, as per the report from NBC6 South Florida. She was arrested on August 15, 2022, and has been jailed without bond; thus, Clenney is expected to stay in jail for a further two years.
It also required Clenney to undergo a mental health evaluation and substance abuse treatment, as well as not derive any financial benefits from the case.
Clenney gained a following of approximately 2 million subscribers on Instagram as Courtney Tailor and did not deny stabbing Obumseli, but she defended herself against an abusive partner. Her lawyer, Frank Prieto, added that Clenney stabbed Obumseli by throwing a kitchen knife from a distance to defend herself.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke died in May from the effects of heroin and cocaine, authorities said Friday.
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner said the 29-year-old basketball player's death was accidental.
Clarke was found dead inside a home near Los Angeles on May 11. A person familiar with the terms of the investigation told The **** ociated Press after the Grizzlies announced Clarke's passing that drug paraphernalia was found at the residence. The person had spoken on condition of anonymity because those details had not been released publicly.
Clarke was under contract to be with the Grizzlies through the 2026-27 season.
About six weeks before he died, Clarke was arrested in Arkansas on charges of speeding, reckless driving and possessing a controlled substance. He was with Memphis for all seven of his pro seasons after finishing his college career at Gonzaga.

This is a bit of a surprise. The New Orleans Saints waived rookie defensive tackle Zxavian Harris, the team announced Saturday morning. Harris signed with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Ole Miss this spring but wasn't able to practice after undergoing foot surgery back in March. He started training camp on the non-football injury (NFI) list and was waived without taking a snap at practice.
What's unconfirmed is whether the Saints waived him with an injury designation, which would allow him to stick around on injured reserve and effectively take a redshirt year. The Saints also may have decided the juice wasn't worth the squeeze and are letting him go. We'll keep an eye out for updates on that front.
Either way, it's a disappointing end to the rookie year for Harris. He was seen as a third-round talent who fell out of the draft due to off-field reasons -- in addition to that foot injury this spring, he was arrested twice in college -- and there were a lot of Saints fans hoping he could heal up and make the team. This may not be the end of the road for him but we won't be seeing him in black and gold in 2026.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro moved to dismiss criminal charges against former Olympian David Hearn — one of several people arrested on suspicion of vandalizing the monument — after the Trump administration admitted that the damage to the recently installed blue liner was "the result of flawed installation by the contractor."
Fallon, 51, weighed in on the president's defeat, saying, "Trump is upset because his own Justice Department admitted the reflecting pool damage wasn't caused by vandalism, like he said. It was just a result of shoddy construction work.
"Trump claimed someone used a knife to quickly cut the pool liner the length of three football fields. I can barely use a knife to cut open my Amazon box," the late night host quipped.
