The debate around transgender athletes participating in women's sports has reached all-time highs after comments on the subject by Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham and tennis stars Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff.
Now, Jay Feely, a former NFL placekicker who is now the Republican nominee for Arizona's 1st congressional district, is giving his thoughts on the topic.
"We should be willing to stand up and say, hey, we don't want men competing in women's sports," Feely said in a video shared to social media. "We wanna protect those women's sports because they have biological advantages.
"If every guy who didn't make it in college and didn't get into the NBA decided, you know what, I wanna go play in the WNBA right now, I'm gonna identify as a woman, there wouldn't be any women in the WNBA. There wouldn't be a single woman. Caitlin Clark would not be able to compete against these men who go because of the physical advantages that they have.

OLYPHANT — Coaches and players from all across the region came together this week to celebrate the unofficial start of the 2026 fall sports season.
The 17th annual Lackawanna Football Conference Media Day was held Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the Regal Room in Olyphant. The event is organized and hosted each year by former Wallenpaupack Area skipper Stan Kucharski. From this point on, it will be officially named the "Stan Kucharski LFC Media Day."
Local schools were well-represented as teams prepare for the first official day of practice on Aug. 17.
"We're definitely excited to get out on the field and see what we can do," Honesdale skipper George Howanitz said. "We have a great group of kids and they're really buying into what we're teaching."

The game was themed "Barbie Night" in celebration of both Reese's nickname and her recently debuted signature Barbie doll with Mattel, featuring Reese's ponytail, pink nails, and an all-pink game-day look.
Before the game, the All-Star forward spoke about the importance of having a doll that black girls could see themselves in.
"I didn't have a lot of dolls because I didn't have dolls that looked like me much, and that's why I kind of wanna really wanted to make sure this was super intentional," she said.
Unfortunately for Reese and the Dream, the game didn't quite go as they'd hoped. Atlanta lost in blowout fashion with a final score of 109-87. Still, Barbie came to play, finishing the contest with 23 points, 16 rebounds, and a +- of -3, which is especially impressive considering the 22-point loss.

The Washington Commanders took the practice field on Tuesday morning with a new face. Well, he wasn't new to everyone. Cornerback Fabian Moreau signed with the Commanders on Tuesday morning after cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon's surprise retirement.
Moreau is a former Washington draft pick, having been selected in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons in the burgundy and gold, departing after the 2020 season. Since his time with Washington, Moreau has played for the Falcons, Texans, Giants, Broncos, Vikings, 49ers and Vikings again in 2025. It was during his time with the Vikings that he met new Commanders defensive coordinator Daronte Jones — then Minnesota's secondary coach.
The 32-year-old Moreau was on the practice field Tuesday and met with reporters after practice.

Yet, the WNBA is dealing with a unique situation, where there's been criticism and disconnect on the subject of transgender people competing in women's sports. Now a former NFL player is calling for action in a way some may not expect.
Some, like popular Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham, don't believe that transgender people should be competing alongside women in athletic events. Of course, not everyone agrees.

The night was even more special for Atlanta as it celebrated "Barbie Night," which honored star forward Angel Reese, whose nickname is "Barbie."

ARCHDALE — Jerome Davis remembers visiting the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame as a teenager, marveling at the photographs and memorabilia of his larger-than-life cowboy heroes.
Fast-forward a few decades, and now it's his photo — and his inspiring life story — that wannabe cowboys will be admiring.
On July 18, the 53-year-old former world-champion bull rider was inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame, a remarkable accomplishment for a small-town guy who bucked rodeo history in 1995 by becoming the first PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys ******* ociation) World Championship winner from east of the Mississippi River.
"This is one of the highlights of my life," Davis said Monday. "I've had a lot of other achievements, ... but this one to me is a big deal. This is the one that, when I was a kid growing up wanting to be a cowboy, I dreamed of this happening one day. There's only so many that go to that level, and for them to consider me to be at that level, that's pretty awesome."

Collin **** ton has the opportunity to make a sizable impact on the Los Angeles Lakers this season. The 6-foot-3 guard, who signed a two-year, $19 million contract with them this summer, is a scoring threat who can handle the ball, facilitate and speed up the pace of the game.
Sexton is also a very energetic, high-motor player who always gives 100% on both ends of the floor. During his first media availability as a member of the Lakers, he was asked about the vision that coach JJ Redick and general manager Rob Pelinka have for the team and how he can fit into that vision.
"Just toughness," **** ton said. "I would say the toughness. They wanna be able to compete in all aspects on the defensive side, but also the offensive side and just being able to change the pace of the game whenever it's needed. I feel like sometimes walking the ball up and letting the other team set up their defense is tough, sometimes you gotta be able to change the flow. We talked and it was a really good conversation and they believe in me. I just feel like at the end of the day, whenever a coach believes in you, and like you said, he's gonna be hard on me and yell at scream at me, so I like that. I think that's what gets the best from me."
Last season, Los Angeles was 20th in defensive rating, 16th in fast-break points and 22nd in pace. One would expect the team's pace and transition opportunities to increase at least somewhat thanks to the addition of players such as **** ton who can attack off the dribble in the open court. The acquisition of men such as **** ton and forwards Ziaire Williams and Matisse Thybulle, all of whom are adept at coming up with steals, should also help L.A.'s transition game.
Sexton averaged 15.4 points and 3.3 **** ists in 23.7 minutes a game while shooting 48.5% overall and 40.1% from 3-point range last season. The Lakers would occasionally get blown out in games and seem to almost mail it in this past season, but with a better bench, more youth and more athleticism, they may not happen as much this coming season.

Tom Brady has reportedly been in talks with WWE following a couple of viral confrontations with wrestler/influencer Logan Paul. The interactions have come with mixed receptions, with some finding it entertaining and others seeing it as cringe-worthy.
It's safe to ***** ume that NFL legend Patrick Peterson would probably fall into the latter group.
When speaking with TMZ Sports, Peterson shot down the idea of Brady partaking in the world of professional wrestling.
"Tom don't wanna go to WWE," Peterson said. "He's a quarterback -- and I know Tom is a tough guy. I had the opportunity to be around Tom a bunch of times. He is a hard-nosed Michigan man. Those Michigan men, they definitely wear their heart on their sleeve, but the WWE, Tom? Just let it be. Just let it be, man."
Nothing has been confirmed between Brady and WWE, but the over-the-top run-ins involving Paul appear to indicate that the two sides are angling for something. Perhaps they are merely dipping their toe in the water and seeing how the general public reacts to the feud.

Ottoni eventually didn't make the walk to the Octagonand Stirling has now detailed what happened behind the scenes.
Stirling (10-0) recently revealed that Ottoni (12-4) was aggressivetowards Steele, and even other fighters, throughout fight weekuntil the weigh-ins. However, the Brazilian's nerves got the betterof him right before stepping out for his bout and he allegedlystarted crying backstage, even ripping off his hand wraps multipletimes.
Cutman Brad Tate, who was in charge of wrapping Ottoni, refused torepeat it after a point. The bout was eventually called off andSteele won his contract in a later Contender Series outing.
"The guy that was on Contenders [Series] was probably the worstone," Stirling told Full Send MMA. "He was fighting Kody Steele. Hechoked out AlexPereira back in the day. I was in the locker room with him… Atthe weigh-ins, he is puffing his chest, he is even looking at me,like, 'You wanna go?' I'm like, 'Bro, save it for tomorrow.' Mike Tyson linked up with IShowSpeed during the 2026 FIFA World Cup Finals and suggested that he participate in a boxing match against Ray J.

ESPN and the rest of the sports media industry were left reeling Tuesday as the Mothership ejected approximately 10 on-air talents, while pink-slipping a large contingent of behind-the-scenes staffers at NFL Network.
After speaking with multiple sources, here are my five takeaways from the layoffs, which included ESPN dropping talents such as Ryan Clark, Karl Ravech, David Lloyd, Tom Pelissero, Cam Newton, and Bart Scott:
Chairman Jimmy Pitaro made it clear that ESPN's biggest round of layoffs in three years was tied directly to Disney's acquisition of NFL Network. Anytime two companies merge, the bean counters look at who's doing what. When they find two people doing the same job—or close to it—one goes out the door.
That's what's happening as ESPN absorbs a network it competed with for over 20 years. ESPN has made "significant progress" integrating NFLN, Pitaro wrote in an internal memo obtained by Front Office Sports. But as always with mergers, it "had to make some difficult decisions," added Pitaro.
ESPN will broadcast its first-ever Super Bowl from SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Feb. 14, 2027. Televising a Super Bowl has been a corporate dream of ESPN's since its founding as a scrappy wannabe in 1979. ESPN management and parent company Disney are laser-focused on creating the best, most thorough Super Bowl coverage ever. One of the few people who didn’t seem too upset over how the Conor McGregor vs. Max Holloway fight went at UFC 329 was Max Holloway himself.
McGregor seemingly blew his knee out on the first exchange of the fight, throwing a wild jumping switch kick that missed and buckled his knee just seconds into the first round. Two more falls and the referee stopped the fight, leading to one of the biggest disappointments in UFC main event history (watch the video highlights here).
Holloway didn’t seem to mind, and why would he? He just got paid more than he ever has in his career to fight for one minute. There was no war. No damage. Just a W on his record and money in his bank account. Following the event, he discussed the bizarre non-fight with Megan Olivi on the Paramount+ YouTube channel.
“A win is a win, you know?” Holloway said. “A couple of people got wins over me that kinda ****** me off. Poirier's former foe, ConorMcGregor, returns to action after a five-year hiatus againstHolloway at UFC 329 on July 11. McGregor hasn't fought since breaking hisleg in a trilogy loss against "The Diamond" back in 2021.
The American is open to ending his retirement to fight McGregor fora fourth time and would also consider returning for a bout againstNateDiaz. Poirier vs. Diaz never came to fruition despite nearlymaterializing previously. Furthermore, while Poirier is 1-1 againstcurrent lightweight champion JustinGaethje, he believes they are both too dangerous for eachother.
"I'm still under contract with the UFC. There's definitely achance; if it's the right fight, I'll come back for sure," Poiriersaid in an interview with One on One MMA. "I'd probably fight Conorif that came about. Nate Diaz, I wanna whoop his a** for years andyears; we never got to fight… Me and Gaethje are one and one. Weboth know it's gonna be a head-on collision. We kind of shook handslike, 'Let's not do that to our families again.'"

Three players from the Lackawanna League earned major awards when the Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches ******* ociation released its all-state team Monday.
Abbi Call of Valley View was named the Class 4A Player of the Year, Avary Brister from Abington Heights was selected the Class 5A Player of the Year, while teammate Adrianna Condrad was chosen Class 5A Pitcher of the Year.
Also, from the Wyoming Valley Conference, Lake-Lehman’s Hannah Chipego was tabbed as Class 3A Pitcher of the Year and Tunkhannock’s Michaela Howell as Class 4A Pitcher of the Year.
Overall, 41 players from District 2 were honored, including 28 from the Lackawanna League — 15 of them first-teamers.
Class 1A runner-up Holy Cross had five players: pitcher Ava Schmidt, catcher Peyton Graboske, second baseman Lila Kolcharno and outfielder Claire Helring on the first team, and shortstop Jules Galella on the second team. Old Forge put two players on the second team in shortstop Lillianna Lenceski and outfielder Ava Arnold.

Pro Football Focus is a highly respected and widely recognized **** ytics organization that is often used in both sports media and NFL front offices. That just means, what they put out, should be heard out.
They recently released their top 50 rankings heading into the 2026 college football season and three Ole Miss Rebels made the cut. That leaves them tied for fourth most on the list behind Oregon, Texas and Notre Dame.
Kewan Lacy is the first on the board at no. 10. He led the country in rushing attempts and power four running backs in rushing touchdowns. He finished second in yards, yards after contact and missed tackles. He is the second running back on the board behind Ahmad Hardy (6) of Missouri.
