Every offseason, a college football rules committee gets together to discuss various tweaks to the game. For this season, a reduction in suspension for first time targeting offenders got the headlines, with a reduction in offensive pass interference from 15 yards to 10 mentioned as a footnote. One rule change that could add even more quirk to the game didn't get as much attention: College football will now have the "fair catch kick" that has been legal in the NFL for many years. For the unitiated, here are the details:
The Fair Catch Kick is being introduced into the NCAA playing rules and will allow the receiving team to attempt an uncontested field goal place kick and score three points under certain conditions.
To trigger the Fair Catch Kick, a fair catch of an opponent's scrimmage kick or free kick must be completed.
Following the fair catch (or awarded fair catch) the ball shall be put in play by a snap by the receiving team at the spot of the catch if the ball is caught. Optionally, the ball may be put in play by a Fair Catch Kick by the receiving team at the spot of the catch.
This selection for a Fair Catch Kick must come from the head coach before the dead ball is next ready for play and the decision is irrevocable. Following the ready for play, there is no option of selecting a Fair Catch Kick.

Round 1: I picked fourth overall, which is where I want to be in general. In this dream scenario, Puka Nacua fell to me despite me considering him the 1.01 in full-PPR formats. It'd be Nacua, Ja'Marr Chase, Jahmyr Gibbs and then Bijan Robinson for me at the top before a slight tier drop to Christian McCaffrey, Jaxson Smith-Njigba, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jonathan Taylor. That tier has slightly more risk or slightly less upside than the Big 4. What I wouldn't recommend is James Cook III at third overall, like my friend Aaron. In fact, Cook's lack of receiving profile keeps him out of my top-12 rankings entirely.
Round 2: After the star talents at RB get scooped up, my attention always goes to Brock Bowers in full-PPR re-draft formats. The drop-off at TE scoring after the top-eight this year is concerning, and I'm struggling to find breakout sleepers at the position. Bowers is uniquely set up for a 28% or higher target share while competing for looks with Jalen Nailor and Tre Tucker. That's the difference between my Round 2 Bowers ranking and my Round 3 Trey McBride ranking. In general, I don't see any obvious fades in Round 2. I'm most skeptical of Omarion Hampton's workload and Ashton Jeanty's touchdown upside early in Round 2, but their upside is obvious. The lone true mistake in this mock draft is Kyren Williams at 2.23, given how much Blake Corum threatened him last year (I drafted Corum later in this draft).

Archer (ACHR) stock jumped on Monday after the air-taxi maker agreed to buy three of Boeing's (BA) aerospace subsidiaries, handing the planemaker an equity stake in return for cash.
Under the agreements, Archer will acquire Boeing's Wisk Aero, the autonomous eVTOL developer; SkyGrid, an air traffic management software firm; and Insitu, a defense drone maker.
Boeing will be paid mostly in Archer stock, receiving newly issued stock equal to 19.75% of Archer's shares outstanding just before closing, leaving it with an approximate 16.5% stake once the deal is done.
Boeing also agreed to invest up to $55 million in an upcoming Archer funding round and take warrants to eventually buy up to $200 million of stock down, positioning the planemaker as one of Archer's largest shareholders.

The depth in the San Francisco 49ers receiving corps was tested almost immediately when starting wide receiver Ricky Pearsall went down with an injury that required season-ending surgery and veteran WR Christian Kirk was sidelined by a calf issue. Left tackle Rashawn Slater has missed the last four days of practice, while edge rusher Tuli Tuipulotu didn't practice at the start of training camp but has fully participated over the last week.
Starting with Slater, he suffered a torn patellar tendon on Aug. 7 during training camp in 2025, which caused him to miss the entire season.
He has been working his way back and participated in every practice until the pads came on in San Diego a week ago. Slater had a "minor flare-up" in his surgically repaired knee when he left practice early in San Diego last week.
While Chargers fans have been freaking out on social media, Slater called it, "Nothing that's concerning."

A scuffle broke following the first play of 11-on-11 drills on Tuesday with the physical play and animosity only amping up from there.

Tate was on the receiving end of that early on when San Francisco cornerback Renardo Green threw him to the ground following a catch near the sideline, prompting players on both teams to rush together and exchange words and shoves.

Indianapolis Colts star Sauce Gardner has filed a lawsuit against a Michigan construction company—claiming that the business failed to carry out renovations to a $935,000 abandoned apartment building in Detroit, despite receiving a $500,000 deposit to secure its services.

The Rams may have an injury concern with one of their top offensive players.
Via multiple reporters, head coach Sean McVay said after Tuesday's joint practice with the Cowboys that receiver Puka Nacua had to exit the session early with the team's training staff.
McVay was not sure of the reason for Nacua's exit when he spoke to the media.
Entering his fourth season, Nacua led the league with 129 receptions and 107.2 yards per game last year. He finished with 1,715 yards and 10 touchdowns in 16 games, receiving first-team AP All-Pro honors for the first time.
Additionally, McVay noted that edge rusher Myles Garrett did not participate on Tuesday because he is still dealing with some swelling in his knee. McVay said that Garrett is at about 85 percent and has not had a setback.

Tight end is a difficult NFL position to predict. Players who make the leap to the pros have to juggle blocking and receiving duties in more complex schemes, against faster defenders, than they've ever faced before. Years of wear and tear can break an All-Pro candidate into an also-ran in a single play.
Thus, it's incredibly difficult to accurately rank each team's tight end units in the preseason. In 2019, I ranked the Raiders 32nd out of 32 teams... only for Darren Waller to suddenly and explosively reach his potential, kicking off a wave of angry/satisfied emails and social media mentions from Raiders fans that continues to this day (I apologized to Waller for the disrespect on Radio Row four years later. He seemed OK with it!).
This is all to say, these rankings are not only subjective, but immensely subject to change. Young prospects will rise up and claim their potential. Veterans will see a dropoff or stage impressive revivals. But going off the data we currently have, here's how the preseason 2026 tight end unit rankings look. Stats are from NFL Pro and Sumer Sports where applicable.
Gesicki turns 31 this season. He hasn't had a positive yards after catch over expected (YACOE) since 2020 and saw his numbers drop off after a successful Bengals debut in 2024. Sample is an unexciting but useful piece who gets where he needs to be even if he offers modest returns as a receiver.

Thus, it's incredibly difficult to accurately rank each team's tight end units in the preseason. In 2019, I ranked the Raiders 32nd out of 32 teams... only for Darren Waller to suddenly and explosively reach his potential, kicking off a wave of angry/satisfied emails and social media mentions from Raiders fans that continues to this day (I apologized to Waller for the disrespect on Radio Row four years later. He seemed OK with it!).
This is all to say, these rankings are not only subjective, but immensely subject to change. Young prospects will rise up and claim their potential. Veterans will see a dropoff or stage impressive revivals. But going off the data we currently have, here's how the preseason 2026 tight end unit rankings look. Stats are from NFL Pro and Sumer Sports where applicable.
Gesicki turns 31 this season. He hasn't had a positive yards after catch over expected (YACOE) since 2020 and saw his numbers drop off after a successful Bengals debut in 2024. Sample is an unexciting but useful piece who gets where he needs to be even if he offers modest returns as a receiver.

The young core of the Atlanta Falcons offense is the same this year as the last. WR1 Drake London, RB1 Bijan Robinson and TE1 Kyle Pitts have all re-signed, so they'll be around for at least the next few seasons.

Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham was recently on the receiving end of a brutal foul from Chicago Sky's DiJonai Carrington, which led to her ejection from the game.

Kansas City Chiefs' running back Emmett Johnson went viral after receiving a rough hit during training camp from teammate DB Xavier Nwankpa.
Johnson was running a route in an open scrimmage when Nwankpa levelled him with a hard hit, prompting teammates to help the former Nebraska Cornhuskers RB up.
Nwankpa and Johnson were on opposite ends of a heated college rivalry, as Nwankpa was a DB for the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Johnson spoke to the media after training camp and downplayed the hit from Nwankpa, chalking it up to being just football and issuing a warning for the next time such a situation develops.

SOUTH BEND — Jasper Scaife, freshman punter for Notre Dame football, has provided the early soundtrack of this fall training camp with his thunderous boots.
Just as impressive, however, is the supple silence the Australian's strong hands have produced. So quiet are they when receiving the football from long snapper Joseph Vinci that Scaife, of all people, has emerged as the first-string holder on placement kicks.
"He is a stone-cold competitor," said Marty Biagi, Notre Dame's special teams coordinator and a former kicking specialist himself. "Even when recruiting him, it was like, 'Hey, if I come here, it's all business. I have intention.'"
Scaife, who turns 22 in late September, also shows the sort of advanced attention to detail that kicking coaches love. While playing as a so-called key forward in the Australian and Victorian football leagues back home, the West Perth product handled more than his share of bad hops and wind-blown Sherrins.
"When I was recruiting him, I was watching some of his AFL film, and you can see the intent and the focus," Biagi said. "He is an extremely hard worker, but you can tell he has spent a lot of time or been trained up on the mental aspect of performance."

Not so fast my friend." A lot of them did! Nebraska is #1 and they have over 1,500 points! Marquette has only 28! But 28 is more than the two points across two ballots that you need to get mentioned in the Receiving Votes area, and that's great.

NEW YORK (AP) — Two drivers of Mercedes AMG cars have filed a class action lawsuit against the luxury car company, claiming that the AMG logo on their driver's seat gets so hot that it literally brands them and causes burns.
Gabriel Lahijani and Karendeep "Karina" Bath allege the front seats of certain Mercedes AMG vehicles have a design defect where the raised metallic AMG logo is "reasonably expected to contact an occupant's upper back, neck, or shoulder," according to the court document filed earlier this week in the U.S. District Court of California's Western division.
The plaintiffs want Mercedes to compensate them for any medical expenses, as well as any pain, suffering and emotional distress they can prove at trial. They also want Mercedes to pay for other owners to have the logo removed from their cars.
Mercedes-Benz couldn't be reached immediately for comment.
Lahigani, a Los Angeles resident, had leased a new 2026 Mercedes-AMG E-Class vehicle from an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealership in Los Angeles, according to the suit. He reported receiving second-degree burns on his back on May 31, after entering his vehicle wearing a tank top. A board-certified dermatologist subsequently documented first- and second-degree burns, describing the injury as "AMG inscribed."

JERUSALEM, Aug 9 (Reuters) - Israel's military on Sunday closed the West Bank village of Taybeh to non-residents, saying it aimed to prevent growing attacks on Palestinians by Israeli settlers across the West Bank.
The order, the military said, only applies to Israelis and not to Palestinians. A spokesperson said turning Taybeh into a closed military zone was "due to some violent attacks by Israelis in the region."
"Upon receiving any report of violations of the order, IDF soldiers are dispatched to the area and operate to disperse the gatherings and detain suspects in order to protect the citizens of the area and to maintain order," the military said in a statement.
Taybeh is one of the only Christian villages remaining in the West Bank and was visited last year by the Greek Orthodox patriarch and the Roman Catholic cardinal of Jerusalem.
It is also home to the Taybeh Brewing Co, widely considered the Middle East's oldest microbrewery.
