Few, if any, movie stars achieve the level of celebrity of Paul Newman without good fortune. No one recognized that more than the screen legend himself.
Newman's luck did not begin with his three-year stint in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He understood during his years in the Pacific (and then in Hollywood) that fate fell in his favor more than once.

Tributes continue to be paid to the comedian Jimmy Cricket who died on Monday at the age of 80 following a short illness.
Known for his trademark wellington boots, battered bowler hat and memorable catchphrases, he has been hailed as "inspirational" by some of those who knew him best.
Cricket's son, Father Frankie Mulgrew, said the late comedian "saw the joy in everything, right up until his death".
"On Sunday he wanted the last rites twice, because like a good comedian he wanted an encore".
Fr Mulgrew, who is a Catholic priest at Salford Cathedral, said his father's faith was "really important to him and in the end he was really looking forward to going home, to going in to eternity".

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert and singer-songwriter Madison Beer are officially engaged.
The couple announced the news Tuesday (July 28) morning in a joint Instagram post captioned "Meet my fiancé," sharing a carousel of photos from the proposal.
COMPLEX SHOP: Shop the brands you love, anytime and anywhere. Uncover what's next. Buy. Collect. Obsess.
Herbert got down on one knee beneath an arbor draped in greenery and flowers at a lush garden venue. Another shot in the carousel shows him carrying Beer over his shoulder as she raised her hand to show off her ring — a large, elongated cushion-cut diamond. A rustic wooden sign reading "Mr. and Mrs. Herbert" appears in one of the later frames, alongside photos of the couple kissing, dancing, and smiling.
The pair were first linked in August 2025, when Herbert was photographed at Beer's music video set. Their relationship went public in October, when Beer was spotted kissing the quarterback on the sideline before a Chargers game.

Howard Stern reportedly just earned an early courtroom victory in his legal battle with his former **** istant Leslie Kuhn.
A New York judge has dismissed one of Kuhn's claims against the shock jock and ruled that her allegation that Howard's production company forged a nondisclosure agreement wasn't supported by the evidence.
According to court documents obtained by Page Six, which reported on the ruling Thursday, July 30, Kuhn had claimed that she never signed an NDA from Howard, 72. Instead, she suggested that someone from the radio host's production company, One Twelve, may have accessed her email account and signed it without her knowledge.
However, the judge pointed to an email sent from Kuhn's account that read "Signed NDA attached," along with a copy of the agreement which included her electronic signature. The court called her hacking theory a "bald **** ertion" and dismissed that portion of her case.
The ruling came just days after Howard's attorney, Andrew Mark Goldsmith, blasted Kuhn's attempt to amend her lawsuit with new allegations that a 2022 nondisclosure agreement had been fabricated.

On July 3, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce tied the knot at New York City's Madison Square Garden in front of at least 1,000 guests, including family and famous friends. Although phones were not allowed inside the star-studded event, small details have begun to leak as celebrities opened up about the fairytale wedding. One hot topic of conversation among many fans was what food the couple served at the reception.
While some fans wanted to know who performed at Swift and Kelce's wedding, others were wondering what they ate! One source told PEOPLE magazine that Taylor's mother invited guests into the reception room after the ceremony, where a stage was set up so artists like Paul McCartney and Stevie Nicks could perform.
The insider revealed that there were food stations loaded with Italian cuisine, sushi, and trays being passed around. They also revealed that "there were bars everywhere," says the source, and, despite the venue's size, noted, "It was very crowded!"
Actor Bradley Cooper attended the wedding with his girlfriend, Gigi Hadid, who is a longtime friend of Swift. A truck from Cooper's restaurant, Danny and Coop's, arrived at Madison Square Garden just before 10 PM, according to Us Weekly.
Cooper, along with famed restaurateur Danny DiGiampietro, founded Danny and Coop's, which specializes in Philly cheesesteaks, as a pop-up food truck in 2023. They opened a brick-and-mortar restaurant in New York two years later.

"When Calls the Heart" stars Erin Krakow and Ben Rosenbaum have opened up about what it was like to bring their first child home to their California dwelling—while lifting the lid on their "joyful" first few weeks of parenthood.
The Hallmark-famous couple, who quietly tied the knot in June 2025, announced in an interview with People magazine that they welcomed a baby girl together in April, revealing that they have spent the weeks since then settling into life as parents inside their Los Angeles abode.
Krakow, 41, and Rosenbaum, 39, who have tried to keep their romance very much out of the spotlight, explained to the publication that their daughter has quickly become the center of their world, with the pair embracing everything from early-morning cuddles to evening walks as they adjust to their growing family.
"Our precious new family member entered the world in early April. Our daughter has been the greatest gift, and we are loving getting to know her better with each passing day," they told the outlet in a statement.
While sleepless nights have become part of the routine, they said the transition has only strengthened their relationship and shifted their priorities in ways they never expected.

Every single time Deputy Frank Sloup posts, I lock in and watch the whole thing from beginning to end. This video was really satisfying and involves Deputy Sloup pulling over two separate people who had two completely different reactions.
In the first one, the driver had been going 67 MPH in a 50 MPH zone, prompting Sloup to turn on his lights and pull her over. However, the driver introduced themselves with, "Just write the ticket. It's too hot for all this."
In the second clip, he pulled the driver for going 75 MPH in a 50 MPH zone. But in this interaction, the driver ended up being a fan, asking for a selfie with Sloup after getting a ticket.
It goes to show that even if you are breaking the law in some way, cooperating with police officers is the ticket to ensuring the best outcome.
In the video, you can see Sloup pull over a person on a roadway in Pinal County for going 17 miles over the speed limit. This person immediately proved to be in a sour mood, not being very polite to Sloup throughout the initial stage of giving her information.
