Nvidia Corp. CEO Jensen Huang said the U.S. should embrace, not ban, China's AI models, arguing that high-quality open-source technology should be used rather than feared.
In an interview with Axios on Tuesday, Huang called the Chinese models "excellent" and dismissed concerns that OpenAI and Anthropic should fear open AI models, saying they broaden AI adoption by attracting new users, while many customers will still pay for the superior performance and reliability of closed models.
Huang pushed back on fears that downloaded Chinese AI models create a "backdoor" to Beijing, arguing they can be securely customized and isolated.

Amazon (AMZN) has been one of the market's strongest large-cap technology stocks in 2026, helped by rapid growth in Amazon Web Services (AWS), advertising, and artificial intelligence. The company also delivered an impressive first quarter, beating Wall Street estimates.
But the story has recently shifted. Recently, Bloomberg reported that Senate investigators are examining allegations of Chinese influence over Amazon's third-party marketplace, sending AMZN shares down about 4% in a single session.

Elon Musk gave Tesla (TSLA) investors a clearer picture of a key supply issue on July 22. He said Micron (MU) recently gave Tesla a "very significant allocation" of memory chips on "reasonable terms," and added that Micron is "making room for Tesla in the years to come."
Musk also said memory prices across the industry are "pretty insane" and were "the biggest price jump in anything I've ever seen." That matters because this looks like more than a short-term fix.

Anthropic will pay $1.5 billion to authors whose pirated books it used to train its AI in the largest copyright settlement in U.S. history.
Federal Judge Araceli Martinez-Olguin in Oakland granted final approval of the settlement Monday. The record payout was a modest win for copyright holders, setting a precedent as a wave of AI-related lawsuits works its way through courts.
Although the judge said Anthropic could use authors' works for training, he backed the payout for acquiring and storing pirated books.
More than 500,000 authors and publishers were part of the class-action lawsuit, and they will get paid an estimated $3,000 per eligible work. Their lawyers were awarded $101.6 million in fees.
In 2024, a group of authors sued Anthropic, arguing that the company pirated hundreds of thousands of copyrighted books and used them without permission.

Alphabet made history Wednesday with a quarterly profit that stretched into 12 figures for the first time in the search giant's history—and perhaps for the first time in any company's history. Alphabet, the parent company of Google, grew its bottom line by 298% year-over-year in the second quarter, totaling an astounding $112.1 billion in net income.
That's more profit in three months than 459 of the Fortune 500 companies generate in top line revenue in a full year.

What gives? Alphabet's Q2 revenue increased by a very impressive 24%, to $119.8 billion, with the Google Cloud business reaching an 82% growth clip—results CEO Sundar Pichai called proof that the company's "full stack approach to AI is delivering real, measurable value."
Well, that—plus $99 billion in additional (or "other") income that's not directly produced by Alphabet's day-to-day business operations such as search advertising and YouTube subscriptions.
A footnote in Alphabet's Q2 earnings release provides a bit more insight about where these record-shattering profits came from. Alphabet booked $99 billion in "unrealized and realized" gains on the equity securities in its investment portfolio during the quarter—adding $77.1 billion to Alphabets overall net income after taxes, according. The investment windfall accounted for $6.26 of Alphabet's $9.11 in earnings per share.
Most of the $99 billion in "other income" is from Alphabet's AI investments, primarily Anthropic and ***** eX. Though it's unclear how much each of the individual investments contributed to the $99 billion gain, both companies saw their valuations soar in Q2.

July 22 (Reuters) - Advanced Micro Devices will sell Anthropic tens of billions of dollars' worth of AI servers and invest as much as $5 billion in the Claude ‌maker, in a deal that would strengthen its foothold in a market dominated by rival Nvidia.
The ‌announcement on Wednesday marks the latest so-called circular deal in the AI industry, where chipmakers invest in AI firms that are among their biggest customers. Nvidia has been in talks to invest $30 billion in ChatGPT creator OpenAI.
Buying AMD chips would secure Anthropic much-needed AI computing capacity. The startup has emerged as one of the leaders in Silicon Valley's artificial intelligence race, thanks to strong adoption of its enterprise tools such as Claude Code.
"It's strategically significant, as each win deepens AMD's credibility as the ‌number-two to Nvidia and supports the slow, steady share gains underpinning its AI growth story," said Emarketer ****** yst Jacob Bourne.

Arrakis, a seven-month old London- and Paris-based startup building what it calls an AI "operating system" for industrial companies, is emerging from stealth with $38 million in venture capital funding. It says its goal is to bring agentic AI to sectors such aerospace, energy, logistics, and manufacturing.

The company's latest funding is a $30 million Series A led by Blossom Capital, with participation from venture capital firms Accel, GFC, MainObject, and Rerail. Accel led an earlier $7.5 million seed round, and individual backers include Datadog CEO Olivier Pomel and OpenAI's head of business products, Olivier Godement.

The latest round values the company at $140 million post-money, cofounder and CEO Rafael Quintanilla told Fortune.

Quintanilla is a former vice president at Accel. While there, he spent the better part of a year crisscrossing the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East to develop the firm's thesis on defense and industrial resilience. What he found convinced him to quit and become a founder himself.
"I realized that there was a huge gap between what I was seeing at Accel and in the Valley, with us investing in companies like Anthropic and Lovable in Europe," he said, "and what I was seeing in the more industrial parts of the economy."

He said that most AI has targeted so-called knowledge workers who complete their jobs using software, but that many more jobs in the economy involve the production and movement of physical goods. "Most AI investment to date has targeted the 30% of workers behind a desk. The real ROI lies in the 70% running industrial operations," he said.
Sonali de Rycker, the Accel partner who backed Arrakis's seed round, said she is betting on the founder as much as the market. "Rafa has a rare combination of curiosity, hustle and tireless drive," she told Fortune. "After working closely with Rafa during his time at Accel, it's an honour to be working with him again as an entrepreneur."
But Arrakis is hardly alone in going after manufacturing and industrial firms. Consulting giants such as Accenture and Boston Consulting Group are racing into industrial AI, as is Palantir, and Jeff Bezos-backed Prometheus—now valued in the tens of billions of dollars—is pouring capital into automating the engineering of physical products. The frontier labs are circling too.
Quintanilla argues Arrakis is carving out a distinct niche from each of these competitors. If Prometheus worked with Airbus, he said, it would build AI for "the core engineering of building an aircraft." He said Arrakis, by contrast, "want[s] to take care of everything around it… We want to be the AI layer for key operations of those companies."

As of today, we do not know what these proposed sanctions would look like. If imposed, they could restrict or ban Chinese open-weight models and push U.S. developers toward the best budget-friendly intelligence stateside.
Bessent on Tuesday told Fox Business that frontier AI companies like Anthropic and OpenAI face what he called "IP theft" from Chinese AI models that "distill" their products.

According to a report in The Wall Street Journal, the Pentagon is looking to source compute from ******* eX to run AI models. Not confirmed by either organization, the deal could be worth billions of dollars for ******* eX (SPCX) and deepen its ties with the government. Notably, the deal would be along similar lines to the ones the company has with the likes of Anthropic, Alphabet (GOOG) (GOOGL), and Reflection AI.
However, the news was not enough to arrest the decline in SPCX stock, which is down more than 25% since its listing, witnessing seven straight sessions of losses. Investors seem to have forgotten that Meta's (META) ambitious AI capital expenditures drilled the stock when the company reported first quarter earnings in April.
And there are two reasons why sentiments have turned around since then.
Quick insight: The bulls are circling Meta ahead of its July 29 earnings report, in part because of potential profit upside from massive cost cuts.
"With 10% workforce reduction in May and job postings down 49% quarter over quarter in 2Q, we expect EPS upside," BofA ******* yst Justin Post said in a note.
The other component is the potential for CEO Mark Zuckerberg to signal strong demand for 2027, helped by a new tie-up with Anthropic (ANTH.PVT) on compute.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) hosts its Advancing AI event in San Francisco on July 22-3, and Jefferies expects a busy day. ******* yst Blayne Curtis, who has a "Buy" rating and a $615 price target, thinks AMD will raise its estimate of the total market for its processors past $200 billion. He expects fresh details on the MI500 chips due after the current generation. The part investors will be keen on watching is the customer list. The ******* yst believes Microsoft (MSFT) is signed up for the MI450. There are also growing talks of a deal with Anthropic, which has reportedly been hiring engineers familiar with AMD's software.
The reason a new customer matters so much comes down to how AMD won the last two. To land OpenAI and Meta Platforms (META), each committing to six gigawatts of chips, AMD handed both companies warrants to buy up to 160 million shares. Combined, AMD has promised away about a fifth of itself to secure those orders.

Jensen Huang is urging Washington to stop worrying about China's open-source AI just as an all-out panic has broken out over the highly capable, low-cost models that can increasingly compete with the most advanced products by OpenAI and Anthropic.
The Nvidia CEO said in an interview with Axios Tuesday the U.S. should not ban these kinds of models, which are being developed by Chinese companies like DeepSeek, Alibaba, and Moonshot AI—which last week raised alarms when it released its highly capable model, Kimi K3.
While U.S. companies, including AI coding startup Cursor, are increasingly turning to open-source alternatives from China to save on the high costs ***** ociated with American AI models, the White House has reportedly considered restricting their use partly based on fears that the models could be used for surveillance purposes by China or that they could threaten the viability of homegrown AI companies.
The White House reportedly considered using executive power to impose conditions on U.S. companies looking to use Chinese AI models, including forcing these companies to guarantee security and accept liability if breached, Axios reported.
The White House did not immediately respond to Fortune's request for comment.

L1 Capital, an investment management firm, released its "L1 Capital International Fund" (unhedged) second-quarter 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. The letter discusses the current investment environment as a 'two-speed' but resilient global economy, accompanied by an uncertain future. The letter explores the potential of an AI bubble, distinguishing between strong fundamentals and speculative momentum. Additionally, the market displays a 'narrow' character, marked by high exuberance and ******* ounced over-pessimism. Against this backdrop, the Fund returned +2.6% (net of fees) during the June 2026 quarter, compared to the benchmark return of +12.5% (all in A$). The underperformance was driven more by which investments were not held in the Fund. The Fund remains focused on quality, valuation and the avoidance of permanent capital loss, and believes the portfolio is positioned to deliver attractive risk-adjusted returns for patient investors. In addition, you can check the Fund's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its Q2 2026 investor letter, L1 Capital International Fund highlighted Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT). Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is a multinational software company that develops and supports software, services, devices, and solutions, holding dominant positions in software, cloud infrastructure, generative AI, and gaming. On July 17, 2026, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) closed at $393.82 per share. One-month return of Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was 7.21%, and its shares lost 22.79% over the past 52 weeks. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has a market capitalization of $2.93 trillion.
L1 Capital International Fund stated the following regarding Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) in its Q2 2026 investor update:
"Particularly attentive long-term followers of the Fund may have noticed that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is no longer among the top 10 holdings. We have rebalanced the portfolio weights between Alphabet and Microsoft. We remain comfortable with the Azure hyperscaler business of Microsoft, although we believe the business may be less well positioned compared to Alphabet's GCP and Amazon's AWS hyperscaler businesses:
• Microsoft is behind in developing its own chips (GPUs, CPUs, ASICs) to support AI workloads at lower cost and reduce reliance on Nvidia. • Previously, Azure pulled back on some data centre investments and is now capacity constrained and more dependent on neocloud capacity for immediate needs. • Azure is more OpenAI-centric and less Anthropic-centric, and recently Anthropic has been out-executing OpenAI. Azure does not just serve OpenAI and is a trusted partner of many of the largest organisations globally. We expect Azure to deliver strong growth, and sound returns on its massive capital expenditure.

Meta is reportedly in talks to lease computing power to Anthropic in a deal worth as much as $10 billion over two years, according to the New York Times.
The arrangement would open a new business line for Meta while easing Anthropic's desperate hunt for compute.
Computing power, or compute, refers to the data center capacity used to train and run artificial intelligence models. The Anthropic proposal, first announced in June, would let the startup rent Meta's excess infrastructure rather than build its own facilities.
According to the NTY, Anthropic would pay Meta in monthly installments over the two-year period, with an early-exit clause available to either party.
The scale still looks modest by industry standards. The proposal runs about a third of the deal Anthropic signed with Elon Musk's **** eX in May.

Yahoo Finance's AI winners and losers provides a weekly snapshot of some of the biggest stories impacting the artificial intelligence industry. From chip manufacturers and model developers to software companies and politicians, we look at who has benefited from AI and who has stumbled.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSM) announced blowout earnings on Thursday and said it will increase spending to expand its US footprint. Second quarter revenue jumped 36% year over year, while net income rocketed 77.4% higher.
TSMC produces semiconductors for the world's most influential tech companies, including Apple (AAPL), AMD (AMD), Nvidia (NVDA), and Qualcomm (QCOM). And the AI boom has paid off handsomely for the Taiwan-based manufacturer. Annual revenue has increased from $75.99 billion in 2022 to $122.56 billion in 2025.
According to CFO Wendell Huang, TMSC's Q2 results were supported by strong demand, which he expects to continue into the current quarter as tech companies seek as many AI chips as they can get.

Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO) has been a solid stock pick in 2026, rising around 15% so far this year. However, it's down nearly 20% from its all-time high because of a poorly received earnings report. When you dig into why Broadcom's stock fell following that announcement, the reason looks quite silly as bears overreacted to modest guidance. Investors should be looking at this latest sell-off as a golden buying opportunity for a company whose business will explode for the remainder of 2026 and into 2027.
I think this is the most critical reason to buy the stock, as the Broadcom of today is going to look far different from the one at the end of 2027.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Broadcom does a lot as a company, but a highlight now is its custom AI chips. GPU-based computing is highly effective, but it's expensive. GPUs aren't optimized to run a certain workload because they're meant to be able to handle all types of workloads. This unspecialized nature is great for some applications, and poor for others. In AI, several workloads can be streamlined into one type where a specialized computing chip, like the one Broadcom designs, can deliver superior cost performance versus GPU-based training.
Broadcom's customer list is growing, and it now has four major clients, along with some other smaller ones. Highlighting the list are Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL), Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META), Anthropic, and OpenAI. Alphabet, which owns Google, is already a leader in this area, as its Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) are quite popular. The other three's custom AI chips will enter production throughout the remainder of 2026 and into 2027, which is why Broadcom has advertised massive growth.

Some billionaires have spent the past year warning that New York City's political climate could scare away companies, capital, and high earners. But two fast-growing brands are moving in despite the noise.
Anthropic is leasing an entire 16-story office building at 330 Hudson Street in Manhattan, dramatically expanding Anthropic's New York footprint from a much smaller office (just around the corner, at 155 Sixth Avenue), and announcing the company is planning to double its workforce in the city. The Claude-maker, which had less than 500 employees in the city at the beginning of this year, expects to occupy all 16 floors of the building—enough **** e for 1,700 desks—and expects to have more than 1,000 employees by the end of the year. The company is currently hiring for roles in New York across research, engineering, policy, sales, and operations.
"New York is one of the main hubs for how AI is being put to work, and Anthropic is in the middle of it as a technology partner to the financial institutions, media companies, and cultural organizations that help define the city," Anthropic chief commercial officer Paul Smith told the New York Post in a statement. "Doubling our team here and deepening our long-term commitment to the city will allow us to sit closer to that work, and to the people driving it forward."
Simultaneously, Airbnb is making a major real estate bet on New York of its own. The company purchased 281 Park Avenue South, a six-story building in Gramercy, for $81.5 million, according to The Wall Street Journal. The building is expected to serve as a hub for Airbnb's New York-area workforce, which numbers more than 600 employees.
"New York City has been part of our story since the earliest days of Airbnb," CEO Brian Chesky said in a statement to AM New York. "This building reflects our long-term commitment to the city and will be home to one of our largest employee hubs outside of San Francisco. We're excited to keep investing in the city and the people who make it extraordinary."

NEW YORK/MONTREAL, July 9 (Reuters) - Aviation lawyer Amanda Applegate skipped her annual vacation last month as a surge of wealth from AI startups and **** eX sent a wave of tech investors shopping for private jets, burying her in paperwork for aircraft-purchase agreements.
The Cleveland-based attorney attributed the rush to a handful ‌of major "liquidity events" in the tech industry.
The IPO of Elon Musk's **** eX, whose holdings include artificial-intelligence firm xAI, raised a record $85.7 billion for the company and generated unprecedented employee and founder ‌wealth. Next in line for potential big IPOs are AI companies Anthropic and OpenAI.
Venture capitalists, board directors and early employees of **** eX and other AI companies, along with bankers shepherding anticipated IPOs, are channeling fresh wealth into private aviation, turning it into an early beneficiary of the AI boom. Reuters reported last month that luxury travel companies are increasingly targeting tech entrepreneurs, reflecting expectations that the sector will spawn a new cohort of billionaires.
