Palantir Technologies (NASDAQ:PLTR) CEO Alex Karp just added a third front to the fight over artificial intelligence (AI) safety on Thursday, arguing that the companies developing the technology -- the Anthropics and OpenAI's of the world -- should face civil and criminal penalties if AI causes the damage their CEOs are warning of.
Speaking with CNBC, Karp said that he agreed that "reasonable guidelines" for the industry should be enforced, but that "you can't do it" and that "the first line of defense" instead should be to hold companies and their leaders responsible for their own actions.

Karp was weighing in on an ongoing and high-profile debate within the industry. After Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei penned an essay warning that AI capabilities were improving too quickly for researchers to understand and control them and that action must be taken to ensure the public's safety, he was joined by several AI leaders with calls for a slowdown and increased oversight.
Here's a look at what they had to say:

CrowdStrike (CRWD) stock is already having a huge 2026, but Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang just offered investors another reason to stay bullish. Speaking at a Goldman Sachs technology conference, Huang said cybersecurity could become the next major growth driver for artificial intelligence and described CrowdStrike as Nvidia's (NVDA) "number one cybersecurity partner."
That matters because the AI opportunity is expanding beyond chatbots and data centers. As companies deploy more AI agents, they also face a growing number of security risks. CrowdStrike is positioning its Falcon platform to capture that spending, potentially giving CRWD another growth engine after its powerful run this year.

When you're planning a vacation, you probably aren't thinking about worst-case medical scenarios. Travel insurance, if it comes up at all, is often viewed as a way to protect against a canceled flight or lost baggage.
But a serious medical emergency abroad can wreak havoc on your finances. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates an international air ambulance can cost $30,000 to $250,000.
Emergency medical evacuation insurance is designed to protect against that risk. Here's everything you need to know about how this benefit works, what it pays for, and how to choose a plan that actually meets your needs.
Emergency medical evacuation insurance, sometimes called medevac coverage, helps pay for and coordinate transportation if you become seriously ill or injured during a trip.

Greenlight Capital released its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, reporting a 4.3% decline for the Partnerships and a 1.9% year-to-date gain, net of fees and expenses, compared with gains of 15.2% and 10.2% for the S&P 500 Index. The funds entered the quarter conservatively, but costly trading decisions and macro positions, particularly in gold and U.S. interest rates, weighed on results. Long positions contributed roughly 9%, offset by similar losses from shorts. The letter also highlighted concerns over speculative market conditions, using **** eX's $1.75 trillion IPO valuation and investment-grade rating as examples of excess. Looking ahead, Greenlight is more constructive on Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh's inflation stance and expects positions to recover if inflation moderates and rates remain unchanged. Additionally, reviewing the Strategy's top holdings could help identify its best ideas for 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Greenlight Capital highlighted PayPal Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:PYPL). PayPal Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:PYPL). PayPal Holdings, Inc. On August 17, Uber Technologies (NYSE:UBER) announced a partnership with drone delivery company Zipline to bring autonomous drone delivery to Uber Eats customers across the United States, alongside a strategic investment in the company. The deal is Uber's second major drone bet after last year's tie-up with Flytrex, and it lands as the ride-hailing giant tries to convince investors its business is stronger than its stock price suggests. Shares are down roughly 9% this year even as revenue, profit, and user growth have all moved in the right direction.
Uber's core business kept expanding through the second quarter. Monthly active platform consumers climbed 16% year over year to 208 million, and trips rose 18% over the same period. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi told shareholders that Uber added more first-time users over the past 12 months than in any period over the previous five years, a sign the platform is still finding new riders rather than just retaining old ones. Gross bookings, the total dollar value spent across rides, delivery, and freight, jumped 24% year over year to $58 billion in the second quarter, and management is guiding for at least $58.3 billion in the third.
Delivery is doing much of the heavy lifting. The segment's revenue grew 28% year over year in the second quarter, compared to just 1% growth in transportation, and delivery now accounts for more than a third of total sales. That momentum is why the Zipline partnership matters. The companies are targeting 1 million drone deliveries per day by the end of 2029, with the first flights beginning later this year in Zipline's existing US markets before expanding to dozens of additional cities. Zipline already operates on four continents, has completed 2 million deliveries, and was valued at $7.6 billion after raising $800 million earlier this year, a well-funded partner rather than an unproven startup.
Uber is chasing a similar playbook with autonomous vehicles. Self-driving cars are already active in seven cities on the platform, and Khosrowshahi said that could more than double to 15 by the end of 2026, backed by roughly $10 billion Uber plans to deploy to help its autonomous partners scale over the next few years.
None of this has translated into the stock price. Uber shares are down about 9% year to date, even as the fundamentals have moved in the opposite direction. When a company's results improve while its stock falls, it usually means investors are pricing in risks that have not shown up in the numbers yet.

Strong cash generation and shareholder returns: Pan American Silver reported $344 million in attributable free cash flow and returned a record $300 million to shareholders through buybacks and dividends. The company ended the quarter with $1.8 billion in cash and investments and approximately $3.2 billion in total available liquidity.
Silver outlook maintained, but gold guidance is pressured: Second-quarter silver production reached 6.5 million attributable ounces, supporting the full-year guidance of 25 million to 27 million ounces. Gold production was below quarterly expectations, and the company now expects to finish at the low end of its 700,000-to-750,000-ounce annual guidance range.
Operational challenges and project updates: Seismic activity at Jacobina and lower gold grades at El Peñón are weighing on gold output, while Pan American is pursuing mining and processing improvements at Jacobina. Development advanced at La Colorada and Timmins, but Escobal's consultation process continues without a restart timeline.

SAN FRANCISCO, July 29 (Reuters) - Eliyan, a startup that aims to ease the bottlenecks in transferring data between AI chips in data centers, ‌said on Wednesday it had raised $145 million in venture funding at a $1 billion ‌valuation.
Cisco Systems, Lumentum and an early investor in networking pioneer Mellanox before its sale to Nvidia backed the raising, according to Santa Clara, California-based Eliyan.
The startup is developing technology aimed at the growing list of companies that are developing their own custom AI computing chips to compete with graphics processing units from Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices.
Regardless of who makes them, most AI chips today ‌face the same basic problem: They can process data much faster than they can send or receive it, which leaves pricey chips waiting and idle.

Team Internet Group PLC (AIM:TIG, OTCQX:TIGXF, FRA:4CN) said it expects to return to year-on-year earnings growth in the second half after its Search division returned to profitability in June, completing its transition away from legacy AdSense for Domains revenue.
Adjusted EBITDA fell 21% year on year to US$19.5 million in the six months to June, though this represented an 8% improvement on the second half of 2025. Net revenue declined 16% to US$61 million, while gross margin widened to 34.1% from 27.6%.
The Comparison division increased adjusted EBITDA by 54% to US$8.4 million, alongside a 28% rise to US$13.7 million from Domains, Identity & Software. Search recorded a US$2.6 million loss across the half, but returned to profit in June following cost reductions, automation and the expansion of Related Search on Content.
Net debt climbed to US$117.5 million from US$87.6 million at December, reflecting tax payments and reduced working-capital financing rather than higher borrowings. Team Internet expects debt to fall significantly during H2.
Its strategic review of the DIS business is progressing with selected parties, with a further update due by the interim results on 7 September and any resulting transaction still targeted for completion during 2026.

AI drives demand for goods beyond just semiconductors and software. Investors are increasingly looking at energy ******* ets to power data centers. This includes natural gas pipelines, electric utilities, transmission networks and nuclear energy. Several of the best ETFs focus on these industries.
"Electricity is the new oil," said Tortoise Capital Chairman and CEO Tom Florence. He argues that the growing need for power will become one of the big investment themes of the coming decade.
