Every time Silicon Valley's biggest names line up behind a single message, someone eventually asks who benefits from such universal agreement. This time, that someone was the investor best known for calling the housing crash before almost anyone else saw it coming.
Michael Burry has spent the past year building a reputation as one of the AI industry's loudest skeptics. His latest target is not a stock but a story. When three of the sector's most powerful executives suddenly agreed the technology needed to slow down, Burry saw the timing as less about caution and more like a self-serving pitch.
Burry has spent much of 2026 building short positions against companies tied to the AI trade, disclosing bets against Nvidia, Tesla, Micron, Applied Materials, Caterpillar and a leading semiconductor ETF, according to TheStreet.
On September 14, Burry published a post on X and on his Substack, Cassandra Unchained, arguing that people should take a moment to understand how self-serving it is for OpenAI, Anthropic and other big hyperscaler executives to talk about slowing things down. The post circulated quickly across financial media, Yahoo Finance reported.

All eyes will be on the September Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting. Unless there is extraordinary news, like collapsing crude oil prices, I am fully expecting a key Fed interest rate hike.
The Fed never fights market rates. Since market rates have risen globally due to higher energy prices, and after the ECB hike, more central banks are expected to follow and raise key interest rates.
The big news is expected to be the FOMC statement that may signal whether or not the Fed is "one and done" or signal that more key interest rate hikes will be forthcoming. Under new Fed Chairman Warsh, the Fed may not provide good guidance, since Warsh wants Wall Street to take its cue from market rates.

The good news is that with a hike already baked into the cake, there shouldn't be a negative market reaction on September 16. In other words, don't fear the reaper because even if interest rates rise and market volatility increases, fundamentally superior stocks continue to outperform. Ahead of the meeting, however, I suspect the stock market will trade sideways.

Coinbase Global (NASDAQ: $COIN) CEO Brian Armstrong said that he believes Bitcoin (CRYPTO: $BTC) has officially bottomed and expects it to move higher over the next two years.
"I personally think we've seen the bottom of the Bitcoin price in this cycle," said Armstrong in a media interview.
Armstrong, who runs the Coinbase crypto exchange, added that he doesn't anticipate another downturn in Bitcoin's price until the next halving event that's expected in about two years.

China's crude oil imports rose for the second consecutive month in August as refiners turned to additional non-Middle Eastern supply and boosted overseas fuel shipments amid eased export restrictions.
China imported 37.93 million tons, or 8.93 million barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil in August, up by 6.2% compared to July, and further recovering from the decade-low seen in June, official Chinese customs data showed on Tuesday.
The August import level was still 23.4% lower compared to the same month last year, but it's a marked improvement from the June lows of just 7.1 million bpd.
China slashed its total crude oil imports to a decade low in June, culminating three months of very low import levels amid high prices and constrained supply from the Middle East.
Beijing, having amassed about 1.4 billion barrels of crude before the war, could afford to dramatically reduce its crude buying, slashing import volumes in June by an estimated 4.4 million bpd compared to the 2025 average.
