Among 401(k) plan participants in their 40s, those with student loan debt had median retirement account balances roughly 45% lower than those without, according to a new report from the Employee Benefit Research Institute.
The best option is to figure out scholarships, financial aid, debt timelines and what school makes financial sense before going to college. But that's not reality for many clients, leaving advisors to help fit student debt into a financial plan that balances both loans and savings. "The biggest mistake I see is treating student loans as an all-or-nothing problem," said Corinna Rose, a CFP with Bell Investment Advisors. "Many borrowers think they need to eliminate every dollar of debt before they can start investing."

Elon Musk's ***** eX has been talking, internally, about buying the leftover customer files of startups that already went under. Not licensing data from companies that are still operating and can say no. Buying the digital estate of companies that no longer exist to say anything at all.
The discussions are happening inside ***** eXAI, the artificial intelligence division born in February when ***** eX merged with xAI. People familiar with the talks told Bloomberg they're informal and might go nowhere. But the idea makes sense from the perspective of an AI lab racing for the frontier.
The goal is basically cheap fuel for Grok. AI models learn from training data—the text, code, and records an algorithm studies to get better at predicting what comes next—and the good stuff, real business records instead of scraped web pages, is getting expensive. A dead company's file cabinet is apparently a bargain by comparison.
Google already did the same. The search giant paid $10 million in a bankruptcy auction for the internal records of Spirit Airlines, the discount carrier that shut down for good this year. They got around 100 million emails, 500 million Microsoft Teams messages, decades of employee files, all headed into an AI training pipeline.
That data belonged to real employees who signed up for a job, not an AI experiment. A flight attendants' union objected in bankruptcy court, arguing that scrubbing names off records—what companies call "de-identifying" data—doesn't stop someone from piecing together who said what in a decade of internal chats. The court fight is still ongoing.

About 13 years ago, “American Idol” contestant Caleb Flynn gushed about his wife Ashley, who he said encouraged him to audition for the 12th season of ABC’s singing competition.
“I love my wife more than anything,” he said in an interview during his brief stint on the show. “She’s very, very pretty, just – woof, I love her.”
Now, Flynn stands trial for her murder, as investigators allege the former music pastor fatally shot his wife of almost 16 years and staged the crime scene to make it appear she was killed by an intruder.
Flynn, 40, was arrested in February, days after he frantically called 911 to report someone broke into their Tipp City, Ohio, home and killed his wife – a beloved middle school volleyball coach – while he was in their daughters’ bedroom.

Franklin Templeton increasingly thinks that debate has it backwards. The more important question may be how much of the existing financial system eventually starts behaving like crypto.
For Chris Perkins, head of Franklin Crypto, the shift is already underway.
"Every institution is integrating blockchain technology in one way, shape or form," Perkins told Coinage. "Market structure is changing overnight. We will be in an era of 24-seven markets. If you're not 24-seven capable, you'll be left behind and someone else is going to eat your lunch."
That is a notably aggressive prediction coming from Franklin Templeton, one of the world's largest traditional ***** et managers. But Franklin has increasingly been putting money behind that conviction, too.

White House border czar Tom Homan confirmed on "The Sunday Briefing" that the Department of Homeland Security is looking into allegations involving Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., but would not disclose details about what he described as an "ongoing criminal investigation."
Pressed on whether the federal government has evidence that Omar committed immigration or naturalization fraud, Homan declined to comment.

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Fever wing Sophie Cunningham has thoughts on what a new WNBA commissioner should bring to the table. And she's already had conversations with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, who is leading the search for the new WNBA commissioner, about it.
Silver reached out to Cunningham, she said on Monday, as her agents are close with him.
"I have talked to Adam Silver a couple times, and I think he's a great guy who's very knowledgeable and full of wisdom," Cunningham said. "Just getting to talk to him and hear his perspective of his approach to the NBA is huge. Who he's kind of looking for, I think if you want to know the real answers, go to him, but I think he's going to put someone in place who really wants to take our league to another level than it's already at. With a lopsided score like that, it would seem ridiculous for someone from the winning team to compliment that losing team on their defense. But, that's exactly what Williams did after the game.

Cincinnati Reds manager Terry Francona's future is drawing attention as the front office looks ahead to next season. Francona has one guaranteed year left on his original three-year contract, plus a club option for 2028. Team president Nick Krall said he doesn't think it is a lame-duck status for someone like Francona. Francona said he values the people around him and feels stronger about them after being there for a while. He said the Reds would be hard pressed to find a better fit for what they are trying to do. A TikTok posted by phlynnmartin recounts a date from back in August 2024 at Melbourne frozen yogurt chain Yo Chi that the creator, who goes by Phlin or Flynn, said ended with an unexpectedly large bill. A man who stabbed his housemate to death over a £10 phone debt has been jailed for life.
Mark Jesse, 51, attacked Charlie Belsham at their address on Castle Road in Chatham on 1 November 2025, after Jesse became angered about a row between his victim and Ashley Robinson - a visitor to the property - regarding the sale of a mobile.
Kent Police said Jesse later went to Belsham's room, then reportedly emerged saying: "I've stabbed him in the ribs."
Having previously been found guilty of murder, Jesse was jailed for a minimum of 20 years at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday for "unjustifiable and rash" actions which "tragically cut short someone's life over a simple argument", according to police.
Police said Belsham, who was in his 40s, was found with a single fatal stab wound to the chest.

I've used the word "penultimate" seemingly endless times in the last month or so, so here's one more. The WooSox capped off their finale in Lehigh Valley (Phillies AAA), finishing the PENULTIMATE series of 2026 in dramatic fashion despite outplaying the IronPigs for most of the game. Gage Ziehl had a gritty if not spectacular performance, pitching into the sixth and coming back from being taken yard in the fourth without his confidence shaken. All told, the 23-year-old righty struck out eight to bring his total to 126 in 116 innings pitched (96/85, respectively, of those being in Portland) and is really shaping up into someone to watch in 2027. The pitching staff as a whole issued zero walks despite being taken for nine hits, but the game never looked out of control save for when Noah Song came in to let two runs up in the sixth.
Luckily, though, the WooSox offense had a home run derby, sending five over the fence, including two from Allan Castro. That second one hoisted the WooSox from a deficit to a lead that Sam McWilliams wouldn't give up. Arias also hit his 24th home run of the season (and his 5th in Triple-A.)
Rain cancelled the last game of the season against Binghamton (Mets AA) in an anticlimactic fashion. But what a season it was for the Sea Dogs.
The season began with interested eyes watching Franklin Arias become an absolute hitting machine in the spring, along with Anthony Eyannson dealing, only for the former to be promoted to Triple-A and the latter dealt to Baltimore (or rather, Chesapeake) in the Adley Rutschman deal. Still, Brooks Brannon raked, the team had 8 walk-off wins and generally found ways to come up on top. The pitching staff headed by Hayden Mullins, in his own right a guy to watch, pitched a combined no hitter in April (but not a shutout). And Justin Gonzales looks formidable as an everyday outfielder a few years in the future. Overall, the cupboard is not as fully stocked as some teams, but there's some players to feel good about starting to make their mark in the mid-levels of the farm.

Brian Hickerson, who previously dated actress Hayden Panettiere, found himself in the middle of a police response at a South Carolina bar. A night out with his brother Zach Hickerson turned chaotic, eventually putting both men in police custody and bringing Hayden's death back into the spotlight.
As reported by TMZ, the incident happened Saturday at Wild Wing Cafe in Greenville. Brian and Zach had reportedly spent several hours drinking together before the situation escalated.
Brian eventually left their table toward the back of the bar and went over to speak with other patrons. Things soon became heated. At one point, he allegedly grabbed a stool and threw it backward.
Video obtained by TMZ shows part of the confrontation. Brian appears to be lifted off the ground by someone during an argument. He was then carried outside while a bartender could be heard shouting, "Let him go!"
Police arrived after receiving a report of an "assault." Officers found Brian and Zach involved in an altercation with other people outside the bar. Houck has shown flashes of brilliance but hasn't found consistency. This year, he has been rehabbing after undergoing a special surgery of his ulnar collateral ligament. It's a "hybrid reconstruction" with a flexor tendon repair.
That was last August. This year, the Red Sox, with high expectations, struggled at first. Now, they are playoff contenders, and Houck wouldn't mind adding to the fun. That includes rejoining the team before the season ended.

What's been exciting about Robinhood Chain (RHC) is seeing tokens attempt new mechanisms to answer questions like: why would someone hold this token? How can we make participating in this token attractive? And, more broadly, how can market activity around a token overall be designed to contribute to its success?
All new projects should ask this and the best ones do, but when you have a new chain, with a new market and new infrastructure, it can be sort of a "clean slate" or fresh design ***** e and breathe new life into the solutions to such questions.
The dominant answer right now seems to be distributions: hold this token and get stock, tokens, etc. Below are projects which execute this with a twist, expanding either the type of rewards or the source for rewards that end up in the hands of holders.
Others attempt to answer the second question, experimenting with new infrastructure that tries to make market activity, of whatever kind, directly contribute to the token's success.
These are all shared to give you a sense of what novelty can look like amidst this meta and act as a guiding force to understand what's been done, what's working, and overall where to direct your attention towards.

Arsenal made it four wins from four in the Premier League with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. The Black Cats played a gritty, physical game, but the Gunners gave as good as they got, and battled to the win. With a massive ***** ist from David Raya saving a, uh, generously awarded penalty that would have made it 1-0 for the bad guys. Minutes later, Bruno Guimaraes put one top bins. Raya made another brilliant save later in the half. Deep in added time, Bruno put Bukayo Saka in on goal, earning a penalty and second yellow to Reinildo. Penalty converted. Game over.
The Sunderland crowd greeted Bruno with a chorus of boos when he replaced Myles Lewis-Skelly at halftime. They take their rivalry with Newcastle seriously. Unfortunately, it was very much a "keep booing, it only makes me stronger" moment. You could see from the little smile on Bruno's face that he was loving it and using it to fuel him. His "I can't hear you" celebration to the crowd after he'd put one on postage stamp was absolute perfection.
Great call from Mikel Arteta to pull Myles Lewis-Skelly at the break. Everything was off from him — poor touches, cheap fouls — it simply wasn't his night. The manager also had to swap Jurrien Timber for Ben White, who appeared to have tweaked his groin. Because when ***** nal get one right back healthy, the other gets injured. That's how it works. Timber was excellent, by the way.
The ***** nal subs that came on later in the second half, Eze, Merino, and Zubimendi, were mediocre to poor. The depth is tremendous but Mikel Arteta has his work cut out for him to keep everyone sharp so that when they are called into action they don't, say, give the ball away the only two times they get on it like Merino did today.
The Gunners could have and should have been ahead at halftime, but once again, they were profligate with scoring chances. Bukayo Saka was caught in two minds on a leaping volley and only managed glancing contact. Kai Havertz shot over the bar from in close. The German striker also forced a smart save with a brilliant control, turn, and volley move. Saka also flubbed two chances in the second half — he picked the wrong pass on a 4-on-2 break and he shot too close to the keeper. The side could do with a bit better finishing, but if you believe (as I generally do) that finishing ebbs and flows, as long as they keep generated the volume of chances, someone is in for a real hiding.
