Greg Abel took over as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRKA)(NYSE: BRKB) at the start of 2026. Former CEO Warren Buffett left Abel a huge gift: nearly $400 billion in cash on the company's balance sheet. Abel has put some of that cash to work buying Taylor Morrison Home, and some has been spent on publicly traded stock investments. However, Abel has also decided to buy back Berkshire Hathaway stock. That could be a positive sign. Here's why.
Under Warren Buffett, Berkshire Hathaway didn't make a habit of buying back stock. The world-famous investor preferred to put cash to work by buying shares in other companies or buying companies outright. When he did buy back Berkshire Hathaway stock, it was because he believed the shares were undervalued.

This dynamic is clearly explained in the company's 2025 10k, where the company states: "Berkshire's common stock repurchase program currently permits Berkshire to repurchase shares any time that Berkshire's Chief Executive Officer, after consultation with the Chairman of the Board, believes that the repurchase price is below Berkshire's intrinsic value, conservatively determined." The only limit on repurchase activity is that it can't reduce the company's cash and short-term investment balance below $30 billion.
Some market watchers had hypothesized that Berkshire Hathaway bought as much as $11 billion of its own stock in the second quarter, but the real number turned out to be roughly $4.5 billion. That said, the number was still quite large and, even then, given the huge cash balance the company has, it didn't put the company anywhere near the $30 billion cash limitation.

AVAV stock has plunged 40% in a year despite a historic $464M Army laser contract and a record $1.5B funded backlog.
AeroVironment's LOCUST laser cuts drone intercept costs from millions to under $10 per shot, backed by 300 cartel drones already downed at the southern border.
Nawabi sold 28,265 shares at $139 while ***** ysts set a $226 average price target, leaving investors to weigh insider doubt against a 47x forward P/E.
Just released. Our ***** ysts combed the entire stock market and named the ten best stocks to buy right now, and AeroVironment didn't make the cut. Enter your email to see the names that beat AVAV. The report is free. Enter your email and see if any of your stocks made the cut.
AeroVironment (NASDAQ:AVAV) chairman and chief executive Wahid Nawabi went on CNBC this week with an arithmetic problem for defense investors. Drones being thrown at Western militaries and border installations cost roughly $150,000 apiece, according to Nawabi, while the interceptors historically used to knock them down cost millions of dollars per shot. His pitch is that AeroVironment's LOCUST directed-energy laser, per Nawabi, brings that engagement cost down to less than $10 per shot.

ZURICH, Sept 10 (Reuters) - A major shareholder in Novartis has called for a shake-up of the Swiss drugmaker's board to improve corporate governance after its shares suffered a record fall this ‌week following back-to-back trial setbacks.
David Samra, managing director at top 20 investor Artisan Partners and founding partner of ‌International Value Group, said the board needed to strengthen its oversight of acquisitions, calling for action from board chairman Giovanni Caforio.
"I think he needs to make changes at the board level. One of them should be on improving the team that's doing these deals because clearly they have been uninspiring at best," Samra told Reuters in an interview.
"I think that the board needs to improve their oversight of acquisitions... they need to bring in better talent on the board to do that and have an acquisition committee."

The International League T20 (ILT20) Season 5 was officially launched with a glittering event in Dubai, with fast-bowling legends Brett Lee and Shoaib Akhtar among the star attractions on an evening celebrating the league's rapid rise and growing influence across the Gulf region.

The event brought together leading figures from cricket, sport, business and government, with ILT20 chairman Khalid Al Zarooni and league commissioner, ICC board director and ECB general secretary Mubashshir Usmani highlighting the tournament's contribution to the development and expansion of cricket in the UAE and the wider region.

Al Zarooni reflected on the league's growth while thanking its stakeholders and partners.

"What began as a dream has grown into one of the world's leading cricket leagues, bringing together top players and major franchises, while helping grow cricket in the UAE, the region and beyond," he said.

He also acknowledged the support of franchise owners, commercial and strategic partners, with a special mention for Zee Network, while welcoming SPORTFIVE as a new commercial partner.
A special panel discussion hosted by former New Zealand international Simon Doull explored the changing landscape and future of cricket in the region and globally.

The panel featured Usmani, Dr Mohamed Abu Hamra, Eisa Sharif of the Dubai Sports Council, ZEE Entertainment Enterprises Deputy CEO and CFO Mukund Galgali, SportFive President Venu Nair and Bisleri Global Director Sales & Marketing Tushar Malhotra.

Doull later brought Lee and Shoaib together for another engaging discussion, with the two legendary fast bowlers speaking about the ILT20's growing impact on UAE and regional cricket.

The pair also looked back on their playing careers, recalling an era in which their blistering pace made them two of the most feared fast bowlers in world cricket.

The evening also featured a spell-binding performance by celebrity mentalist Karan Singh Magic, while the league unveiled its new brand identity for Season 5.
Season 5 will be played in November and December across the UAE's three iconic venues — Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Dubai International Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Defending champions Desert Vipers will enter the fifth season aiming to retain their crown. Gulf Giants won the inaugural season, followed by MI Emirates in Season 2 and Dubai Capitals in Season 3.

Cricket Australia (CA) has opened the door to private investment in the Big Bash League (BBL), with the Melbourne Renegades set to become the first franchise offered for sale from the 2027-28 season.

The decision comes after months of discussions between Cricket Australia and Australia's state cricket ***** ociations over the future of the domestic T20 competition.

At a press conference at the SCG on Tuesday afternoon, CA confirmed that the Renegades will be the first BBL franchise to enter the private ownership process. Other BBL and WBBL teams could also be offered for sale in the future under a "self-determination" model.

The governing body said the move is aimed at bringing private investment into the T20 competition and strengthening the financial position of Australian cricket as players and teams are increasingly being drawn towards lucrative leagues around the world.

"CA will invite bids from private owners for the Renegades with a view to them playing the 2027-28 season under new ownership," the governing body said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Beginning the sales process for the Renegades allows us to take the first step in a self-determination model for our members and represents a defining moment for the game," said Cricket Australia chair Mike Baird.

"This is a significant decision that has involved an enormous amount of ***** ysis, discussion and collaboration over many months."

CA said other franchises could be put on the market at a later stage.

"Pending the result of that process, CA will consider taking other clubs to market under a self-determination model that gives each state member the ability to ***** s the optimal pathway for its own club and community."

According to cricket.com.au, Hobart Hurricanes, Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Stars are among the other clubs believed to be interested in private investment.

The Renegades are owned by Cricket Victoria, which supported CA's original plan. They won the BBL ***** le in the 2018-19 season.

The move comes as CA looks to strengthen its finances. Despite a boost in revenue from hosting a five-Test series against India, the game's biggest financial market, CA reported a net deficit of A$11.3 million for the 2024-25 financial year.

"By opening the door to private investment in the Big Bash Leagues, Cricket Australia is taking a deliberate step to strengthen and secure the long-term future of the game," CA Chairman Mike Baird said in Tuesday's statement.

Australia Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced in July that December's BBL 2026-27 season opener between the Renegades and Perth Scorchers would take place in the Chennai.

While CA is allowing private ownership, it will continue to control key areas of the competition. Baird said the governing body will retain control over international scheduling, player availability, salary caps and media rights.

CA will also have the power to approve or veto investors and set a reserve price for

Reuters reported that Solstice Advanced Materials, Inc. (NASDAQ:SOLS) and Element Solutions Inc (NYSE:ESI) mutually agreed to terminate their $14.5 billion merger agreement, the companies said on August 27, citing feedback from shareholders on both sides who preferred each to stay independent. Neither side will pay a termination fee.
Solstice Chairman Rajeev Gautam said the company valued that feedback, including shareholders' "excitement about Solstice's strategy and growth trajectory as an independent company." Solstice's board also authorized its first-ever buyback, up to $500 million, and reaffirmed its recently raised guidance. Solstice shares jumped 15% in after-hours trading, while Element gained 4%. The deal, announced July 6 just 10 months after Solstice's Honeywell spin-off, would have combined Solstice's refrigerants and specialty materials businesses with Element's electronics chemicals operations, paying Element holders $10 cash plus 0.5 Solstice shares per share. The original announcement got a rough welcome: Solstice fell nearly 15% that day, which CEO David Sewell blamed on arbitrage trading, not doubts about the deal.
Both companies continue to perform strongly on their own. Solstice's second-quarter net sales rose 11% to $1.148 billion, and the company raised its full-year sales guidance to $4.125 billion-$4.185 billion. Element delivered an even stronger quarter, with record net sales up 56% to $978 million and full-year adjusted EBITDA guidance raised to $690 million-$710 million.
Solstice Advanced Materials, Inc. (NASDAQ:SOLS) sheds significant deal risk by walking away. The termination removes the financing and merger risks linked to the acquisition and eliminates the need to use the $4.685 billion bridge facility. It also lets Solstice maintain its 1.3x net leverage. Its new $500 million buyback, the company's first ever, also gives Solstice a direct way to return capital to shareholders while it focuses on organic growth.
Element Solutions Inc (NYSE:ESI) also maintains the strengths that its shareholders wanted to preserve. Chairman Ian Ashken said investors valued Element's management team, culture, and existing business portfolio. CEO Benjamin Gliklich said the company's growth remains compelling. Remaining independent allows Element to continue investing in its existing businesses and pursuing its own growth strategy without taking on the risks of a larger combination.

CNBC and Reuters reported that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will hold its next product launch event on September 9 at Apple Park in Cupertino, marking incoming CEO John Ternus's first major event since taking over from Tim Cook. He became executive chairman on September 1.
Analysts expect Apple to reveal the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, its first foldable iPhone, and new Apple Watch models, along with a new AI-powered "Siri AI" **** istant. Bank of America **** ysts wrote in an August note that "Ternus could cement Apple's device dominance in an AI enabled era." Samsung Electronics currently dominates the still-niche foldable smartphone market, and a Samsung mobile executive told CNN that broader competition in the category would help, saying "the more visibility there is on the category, the better."
The foldable iPhone could become a genuine new revenue and margin driver rather than another incremental refresh. **** ysts expect the premium device to lift Apple's average selling prices and margins, giving the company a new high-end product category instead of another year of iterative Pro-model upgrades.
Even Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)'s biggest foldable rival is publicly welcoming its entry. Samsung's own mobile product management executive said more players in the category would increase visibility and help the market overall. It suggests Apple's foldable could expand total demand rather than simply redistributing existing Samsung sales.
The iPhone 18 launch also gives new CEO John Ternus an opportunity to show Apple's hardware and AI strategy from the outset of his tenure. Expected upgrades such as the 2-nanometer A20 Pro chip could strengthen the iPhone's performance and AI capabilities. Bank of America described Ternus's leadership as an opportunity to cement "Apple's device dominance in an AI-enabled era." A successful launch could therefore give investors greater confidence in Apple's ability to compete in AI-powered devices.

Former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal has launched another scathing attack on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), accusing the governing body of playing a major role in the national team's recent struggles.

Ajmal, who claimed 362 wickets across international cricket for Pakistan before his career was brought to an early end by an issue with his bowling action, has repeatedly expressed his frustration with the PCB. The former spinner has maintained that the board failed to support him during a difficult phase of his career.

His latest criticism comes after Pakistan suffered another heavy defeat against England in the Lord's Test. Following the loss, the PCB made a series of sweeping changes, sacking head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul while also sending seven players back home.

Among those sent back was Imam-ul-Haq, who did not bat in either innings and was subsequently accused of faking his calf injury.

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi later attempted to defend the players and urged critics to stop demotivating the team. Ajmal, however, questioned the sincerity of that message and instead accused the board itself of undermining Pakistan's cricketers.

"The board itself has demotivated the players more than anyone else. The board is not letting any player stand. There are players who have done well, who have also been dropped. There are players who have been humiliated by the PCB," Ajmal said.
The former Pakistan spinner also directed his criticism towards Director High Performance and selector Aaqib Javed and white-ball head coach Mike Hesson.

With Hesson also asked to take charge of the Test side for the third match against England, Ajmal claimed the pair have significant control over Pakistan cricket and held them responsible for the team's current situation.

"Aaqib Javed and Mike Hesson (who has been asked to take over the Test team for the third Test) are a team. These two are controlling everything and are responsible for this whole mess. The whole issue is about egos," Ajmal said on Samaa TV.

Ajmal further criticised the PCB's long-term planning, claiming Pakistan's cricket structure had regressed considerably.

"Our team has gone back 10 years. We have not planned for the future," he added.

Pakistan have already surrendered the Test series against England and are now facing the prospect of a clean sweep. The third and final Test is scheduled to begin at Edgbaston on Wednesday, with Hesson set to take charge of the Test side.
Naqvi, meanwhile, had earlier attempted to explain the reasoning behind the PCB's decision to make such extensive changes after the Lord's defeat.

Speaking to Geo Network, the PCB chairman insisted that the decisions were not motivated by personal issues and said the board had little choice when players were not producing results.

"Every match of a series is important for us, and we are not left with any option if a player is not performing but to look for his replacement. The

Former Boston Red Sox coach and manager Joe Morgan has died at age 95, the team announced Sunday. He was 95.
Morgan spent three and a half seasons as the Red Sox's manager, taking over the job partway through the 1988 season. That year, he led Boston to a 89-73 record and an AL East **** le. The stretch following Morgan's hire was dubbed "Morgan Magic," as the Red Sox won 12 straight coming out of the All-Star break.
"Joe Morgan holds a special place in Red Sox history," Red Sox owner John Henry said in a statement from the team. "When he took over in 1988, he changed the course of a season and created one of the most memorable chapters in the history of this club. The two division **** les that followed only strengthened a bond with Red Sox fans that endured for the rest of his life."
"Joe Morgan managed the Red Sox during some of my most formative years as a fan," Red Sox President & CEO Sam Kennedy said. "Joe made us believe, and when you experience that as a kid, it stays with you. I was fortunate enough to get to know him later in life and found an even better person than the baseball man I had admired. I will miss him deeply."
As noted by Red Sox Chairman Tom Werner noted in the statement, 2026 has seen echos of the 1988 season: After the sudden firing of manager Alex Cora in April, Boston surged through the summer and is comfortably in an AL wild card spot.

The most notable change in Berkshire Hathaway's (NYSE: BRKA)(NYSE: BRKB) massive, roughly $360 billion stock portfolio this year has been the conglomerate's large increase in Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOGL)(NASDAQ: GOOG).

On July 1, QXO Inc. (NYSE:QXO) finalized its cash-and-stock acquisition of TopBuild Corp. for a $17 billion consideration. This makes QXO North America's largest distributor and installer of insulation, the largest distributor of waterproofing products, and the second-largest distributor of roofing products.. Chairman and CEO, Brad Jacobs, noted that the acquisition will enable QXO to explore rapidly expanding end markets such as data centers and broaden its product portfolio. Let's explore QXO's acquisitive growth strategy within the building products distribution segment and what potential does it offer to the company going forward.
QXO's acquisition of TopBuild is anticipated to be a highly accretive deal, with the company expecting at least $300 million of annual synergies by 2030. These will be linked with pricing, procurement, and cross-selling opportunities. Along with previous transactions involving $2.25 billion purchase of Kodiak Building Partners back in April and $11 billion acquisition of Beacon Roofing Supply in 2025, it makes QXO one of the top names across roofing, insulation, waterproofing, and building materials categories within North America.
The company's financials also appear encouraging. On August 13, QXO announced its second quarter results. The company posted $3.25 billion in revenue compared to $1.91 billion during Q2 2025. Adjusted EBITDA clocked in at $272 million, exhibiting 33% year-on-year growth. Adjusted net income came in at $130 million, up by more than 19% relative to the same period last year. The comparison, however, is influenced by acquisition timing. This is because the 2026 quarter included Kodiak and a full quarter of Beacon, while the prior-year period included Beacon only from its April 29, 2025 acquisition date.
CEO and Chairman acknowledged the company's technological progress and financial growth during the quarter. He stated:
"We are focused on our plan to more than double EBITDA by 2030 and reach $50 billion in revenue within the decade."

The BCCI also wanted to add a bit of star quotient to the marquee domestic match with KL Rahul, Devdutt Padikkal and Mohammed Siraj being asked to join the South sq-uad. While Padikkal and Siraj will play the game, Rahul made himself unavailable. Padikkal is coming on the back of a superb series in Sri Lanka and South captain Tilak Varma confirmed on Saturday after a practice session that the left-hander will bat at No. 3.

"Padikkal will strengthen our batting line-up, especially with the kind of form we have seen from him in the last few games. He has done really well, so it will be a big boost for us," Tilak said.

The final carries massive historic weight for East Zone, who reached the ****** le match after a gap of 14 years. Coincidentally, their last final appearance was also in Chennai, a match they won. This fixture also marks red-ball cricket's return to MA Chidambaram Stadium after two years.

Replenish Nutrients Holding Corp (CSE:ERTH, OTC:VVIVF, FRA:7KE) earlier this week outlined how its strategic relationship with Spanish River Carbonatite (SRC) could support a significant production scale-up, with CEO Neil Wiens saying the company has reached an operational "inflection point".
Wiens told Proactive that the relationship initially developed through Replenish Nutrients evaluating Spanish River Carbonatite as an ingredient in its products. He said the material demonstrated strong efficacy when incorporated into the company's blends, leading to discussions about securing greater and more consistent supply.
Following due diligence, SRC made a sizable strategic investment in Replenish Nutrients, while SRC CEO Tim Close has become chairman of the company.
Close described SRC's northern Ontario carbonatite resource as a naturally occurring blend containing calcium, potassium, phosphate and magnesium, together with trace and micronutrients and beneficial microbes.
He said Replenish Nutrients' production capabilities, distribution network and relationships throughout the agricultural supply chain had been important attractions for SRC. Close added that the respective products represented an "ideal fit", with benefits from combining SRC's material with Replenish Nutrients' products.

Bitcoin news today shows the price rose more than 5% on September 3 to trade briefly above $82,000, as concerns about a Federal Reserve rate hike eased and Treasury yields fell. Fundstrat head of digital ******* ets Sean Farrell called the move important data worth respecting, while noting Bitcoin has bucked its historically weak September pattern over the past three years.
This is not simply a one-day rebound. It is the latest data point in a debate among strategists over whether the crypto bear market has already bottomed, a thesis complicated by volatile spot Bitcoin ETF flows and a seasonal track record that still favors caution.
DISCOVER: Upcoming Binance Listings
The token's move above $82,000 follows a 25% rally in August, a month strategists have flagged as a turning point after the Treasury Department's intervention in the bond market and ******* istance to ******* an helped lift both gold and crypto prices. Some of those August gains were erased when oil prices surged and hawkish remarks from Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh raised concerns about the central bank's September rate decision, before Fed governor Christopher Waller signaled openness to holding rates steady if inflation continues to ease.
Despite the rebound, Bitcoin remains roughly 7% lower year to date and about 35% below the all-time high of more than $126,000 it reached in early October 2025. September itself carries an unfavorable base rate: Farrell noted Bitcoin has posted negative returns in nine of the past 15 years during the month, though he cautioned that seasonality is a helpful data point rather than a foolproof trading system. Jim Cramer broke down Dell Technologies Inc.'s (NYSE:DELL) post-close earnings report on Mad Money's episode aired on September 1, as he declared it one of the best quarters he has ever witnessed. He stated:
You're getting a Dell, specifically, a blowout quarter from Dell Technologies. After the close, this iconic maker of tech hardware reported one of the best quarters I've ever seen thanks to the incredible strength of their AI server business. Dell's revenue grew 58% year-over-year, a 2 billion dollar beat. The company earned $7 and 4 cents per share. That's more than $2 above what Wall Street was looking for and more than triple what they made the year before. And the guidance was even better. They took their full-year earnings per share forecast from just under 18 bucks all the way up to $25.50. Stunning, definition of blowout.
The headline numbers show that the business is operating at extraordinary velocity. Dell Technologies Inc.'s (NYSE:DELL) total revenue reached a record $47 billion, marking a 58% increase year-over-year and beating estimates by more than $2 billion. Non-GAAP diluted earnings per share landed at $7.04, crushing expectations by $2.1. Management backed up the beat by raising full-year revenue guidance to $192 billion and lifted non-GAAP earnings expectations to $25.50 per share.
The main catalyst was the Infrastructure Solutions Group, where revenue surged 89% to $31.8 billion. Dell Technologies Inc. (NYSE:DELL) also booked $60.9 billion in AI-optimized server orders during the quarter, closing the period sitting on a staggering $95 billion AI backlog, proving that enterprise data centers are experiencing a broad modernization cycle. The company's COO and vice chairman, Jeff Clarke commented:
We're seeing broader revenue growth as well, with traditional servers and networking up 122%, storage up 26% and our client solutions up 20% year over year. Our second quarter results underscore the compounding benefits of our competitive advantages, the breadth of our portfolio and the strength of our operating model.

Gold is up 2.34% to $4,489.99, and the 10-Year Treasury yield fell 5 basis points to 4.75%. Industrials lead sector gainers, with financial services and consumer cyclical stocks also seeing significant intraday strength as investors rotate into growth-oriented names.
Broadcom shares dropped, despite beating ******* yst expectations in yesterday's earnings. Snowflake's Q2 results were a different story: The stock soared over 20% this morning after a blowout quarter. Robinhood Markets gained following ******* yst upgrades. Nvidia gained on news that it will acquire artificial intelligence (AI) platform Hugging Face.
Major U.S. indexes gained this morning as markets reassessed the probability of a September rate hike. Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller said he'd lean toward holding rates steady unless there are any major inflation surprises. His stance, which seemed to contrast with Chairman Kevin Warsh's emphasis on reducing stubborn inflation, reduced some of the pressure on U.S. Treasuries.
Investors will be watching tomorrow's labor market report and further inflation data due next week closely, as both will impact the Fed committee's decision when they meet on Sept. 15 and 16. Interest rate decisions can cause short-term headwinds for the stock market, and volatility is likely to increase in the second half of this year. However, unchecked inflation can erode long-term value and do more damage to your portfolio than higher rates.

Mortgage rates hit their highest level in over a year as a global bond selloff intensified and Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh signaled in a closely watched speech that the central bank may soon need to raise benchmark interest rates.
The average 30-year fixed rate mortgage was 6.71% this week through Wednesday — the highest since June 2025 — according to Freddie Mac data, up from 6.66% a week earlier. Other measures of mortgage rates have shown an even bigger jump. Mortgage rates on Wednesday averaged 6.91%, according to Mortgage News Daily.
The 10-year Treasury yield, which mortgage rates closely track, has risen sharply in recent weeks as investors worldwide grow more jittery about inflation.
In a speech last Friday, Warsh emphasized the Fed's commitment to reducing inflation, noting "inflation is running above our 2% target. So the Fed's predominant focus right now should be on prices."

Microsoft announced a new financial reporting structure on Wednesday, collapsing its three operating segments into two as artificial intelligence reshapes how the company organizes its business. The change takes effect in fiscal year 2027.
The two new segments are Agents and Infra, and Devices and Consumer. Those three categories — Productivity and Business Processes, Intelligent Cloud, and More Personal Computing — dated to 2015, according to CNBC.
Agents and Infra will include Azure cloud infrastructure, Microsoft 365, GitHub, productivity and server licensing, industry solutions, and frontier and support services. Devices and Consumer will cover search and advertising, Xbox, Windows operating system licenses, and device sales. The restructuring brings Microsoft's advertising businesses together under one segment, the company said.
"There's no question AI represents a profound shift in both technology and business," Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella wrote in the presentation. "It is changing what we build and how we operate, and it is blurring the boundaries between our products and reshaping our business models."
As part of the changes, Microsoft will begin reporting quarterly Azure revenue figures — a disclosure it has not previously made. Under the new, narrower definition of Azure, which excludes GitHub cloud services, developer cloud services, the Security Copilot **** istant, and healthcare and life sciences cloud products, Azure revenue grew 42% to $29.42 billion in the June quarter. That compares with 43% growth under the old Azure and other cloud services metric. Azure represented roughly 33% of Microsoft's total revenue in that period.

Although Bitcoin (BTCUSD) rallied in August and Strategy (MSTR) recently resumed buying Bitcoin after a two-month hiatus, Strategy's strategy has mostly been a failure. As of Sept. 1, the average price at which the company acquired Bitcoin stood at about $75,412. Even after President Donald Trump boosted Bitcoin prices with positive remarks about crypto last month and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent pitched in with his bond buyback plan, the cryptocurrency was changing hands overnight on Sept. 2 at about $77,275. In other words, after a big rally by Bitcoin, its prices are still only slightly below Strategy's average purchase price. And after all the company's compensation, interest, and dividend costs, it certainly appears to be losing a great deal of money, not only on paper, but also in terms of its overall investment approach.
Reflecting this situation, MSTR stock, despite its recent rally, has still slumped 19% so far in 2026 and 63% in the year that ended on Sept. 1. Further, Strategy Executive Chairman Michael Saylor, by repeatedly selling Bitcoin earlier this year and indicating that the company will start lending on a massive scale, has implicitly admitted that the firm's current business model, which is basically entirely dependent on buying Bitcoin and hoping it goes up, is broken.
