AI companies Anthropic, OpenAI, ***** e XAI and Google are being sued over alleged collusion as pressure mounts to slow the rapid development of AI.
The complaint, filed Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, points to a recent proposal from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who called for “industry-wide coordination” to “pace the frontier” as concerns mount over the risks posed by increasingly powerful AI.
“We must slow the ***** e in which we improve the capabilities of AI models,” Amodei wrote in a Sept. 12 essay.
The plaintiffs allege that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, ***** eXAI founder Elon Musk and Google DeepMind co-founder Demis Hassabis made an illegal business agreement among competitors by agreeing to slow the development of their AI systems, violating federal antitrust law.
Within hours of Amodei publishing his essay, Musk responded, saying “Dario is right,” while Altman also said he agreed with Amodei. Hassabis called the proposal “the right path forward,” according to the complaint.

Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed described Americans as "desperate to feel something" and lamented that "we're just all living it alone here" while reflecting on the community he experienced during extended childhood stays in Egypt during a podcast episode last year — remarks uncovered after the candidate recently declared that he "hates" one of his home state's most iconic destinations.
During a late-October 2025 podcast interview, after getting asked what Americans could gain from life "back home," El-Sayed had a one-word answer: "Community."
"I think the hardest part about American life right now is that we've been, like, deeply atomized," El-Sayed said, arguing that the connections offered through phones and social media are "not community." In Egypt and other societies with far more constant human interaction, he said, "you're constantly enveloped in other people's humanity."
Unearthed El-sayed Essay Draws Explosive Trump-bin Laden Parallel: 'Recruited, Radicalized And Reassured'
"It's like a beautiful thing," El-Sayed said. "And I wish we had more of that."

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a new proposed rule for H-1B visas on Monday that would charge a $103,265 fee for all workers seeking to gain employment in the U.S. who are subject to the annual statutory cap.
Notice of the proposed rule says the fee would be used for the federal government's costs of administering the lawful immigration system, including activities carried out by the DHS and the departments of Justice, State and Labor.
"The proposed H‑1B fee is intended to recover the costs incurred across the federal government to adjudicate, vet, and support lawful immigration programs that otherwise must be funded by taxpayers," U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services spokesperson Zach Kahler said in a release.
The move follows a federal judge's decision in June to strike down the Trump administration's previously proposed $100,000 fee for H-1B visa applications.
U.S. District Judge Leo Sorokin ruled that it was unlawful to implement a tax on visa applications, as Congress is the only legislative body with the authority to set immigration policy and taxes.

CASABLANCA, Morocco (AP) — Ayoub Akbili needed money for his mother's surgery. Hamza Haibouri wanted a shot at a professional soccer career. Abdelouahed Iken was chasing the glossy life a friend posted about on Facebook from Italy.
So when they heard rumors that Morocco's border with Spain was open, they decided to join the rush to try to reach Europe.
All three died attempting to cross, becoming victims of the deadliest migration crisis between Morocco and Spain.
Fueled by misinformation, poverty and lack of opportunities, more than 70,000 would-be migrants from Morocco and beyond swam or climbed over a breakwater last month to try to reach Ceuta, a Spanish territory on the North African coast. At least 90 people died attempting to cross the border, according to official figures; rights groups reported a much higher toll. Many families still haven't been able to retrieve the bodies.
Nearly all the survivors have returned to Morocco, and both countries have intensified security measures. Moroccan and Spanish authorities blamed social media rumors and human smuggling networks for the surge, while migrants cited unemployment and low wages as major factors.
