Here's what we know after Monday's press conference in New York to announce the new MMA promotion backed by Strikeforce founder and former Bellator president Scott ******* er:
— It will be called Ki MMA, which looks like K-1 on paper but is ******* ounced like "key," which led to at least one accidental pun in just the first half-hour or so of conversation among the executives.
— Its fights will take place in a modified boxing ring, with such an abundance of tightly ******* ed ropes that should help us finally figure out if it's possible to use this set up without fighters getting tangled or falling through.
— It will focus on tournament-based competition, beginning with a 32-man featherweight tournament in 2027, that will draw fighters from four different continents — North America, South America, Europe and Asia — leading to a world grand prix final, where the eventual champion will have to win two fights in one night.
What we didn't find out was who will be in this tournament or where we'll be able to watch it. Those are typically two pretty important factors in determining whether or not fight fans will get on board, but I guess we're taking things one step at a time.

Well, there's not much to say about this lineup. David Peterson throws with his left hand. The Braves don't have Lane Thomas on hand anymore, so it's basically your standard lineup with Sean Murphy and Ha-Seong Kim bringing up the rear.
This is the same lineup the Braves used in what ended up being that 12-2 game against the Phillies. Given that Peterson probably won't last long given his inefficiency, the Braves may be hoping for a similar result.
I guess I'll talk about Ozzie Albies. He's hitting cleanup for the 21st time this season. His season is basically tanking. He started out with a near-.400 wOBA in April while running an average xwOBA, had a poor May, an okay-ish June, and then ran another huge xwOBA overperformance on a bad xwOBA in July. Since then, it's been absolutely grim. In August, he had a .275 wOBA and .283 xwOBA. In September, he's down to a .212 wOBA and .218 xwOBA. As has also been the case for a while, Albies is no longer terrorizing lefties. In his first seven seasons, he had five where he hit lefties super-well, and one of the ones where he didn't was a tiny-sample 2020 where he was hurt. In both 2024 and 2025, his xwOBA against lefties dwindled to an okay .325ish. This year? He's down to .282. He's only posted an xwOBA at or above .300 against lefties this season in April and July. In September so far, it's .171. There's not really that much time for Albies to change the script of his season, but this is a really disappointing follow-up to 2025 and it's going to be the third straight year where Albies turns in an underwhelming season.
Anyway, should we do batter versus pitcher while waiting for the Cubs to post their lineup? Sure, I guess. These guys are very familiar with Peterson, after all. Amazingly, neither Drake Baldwin nor Mauricio Dubon have ever faced Peterson, and Kim only has four PAs against him, but everyone else has somewhere between 12 and 30. Ronald Acuña Jr. and Matt Olson have destroyed Peterson in their careers, and Riley's been fine, but everyone else has struggled a bit. Add this all up, and you get a .318 wOBA and .347 xwOBA in 141 career head-to-head PAs.
As for the Cubs, well…

Luke Kuechly spent his playing career making sure he never had to guess where the ball was going. But these days, the harder question is guessing which network has him next.
CBS announced Monday that the newly enshrined Pro Football Hall of Famer will make his debut as a CBS game ****** yst in Week 3, calling Raiders-Saints from New Orleans alongside play-by-play voice Chris Lewis and sideline reporter Amanda Balionis.
A radio ****** yst for the Carolina Panthers, Kuechly's stock skyrocketed in recent months as he became Netflix's top NFL game ****** yst after auditioning with Noah Eagle at NBC's Stamford, Connecticut studios in early July. Eagle said Kuechly's football knowledge was never in question — that much was obvious from his playing days — but what stood out during their audition, a mock call of a game from the previous season, was how quickly he got comfortable in the chair given he'd never done the job before. Eagle told Sports Media Watch that it felt like Kuechly "could see things happening before they happen."
He justified that faith in his Week 1 debut, as Awful Announcing's Megan Armstrong wrote that he dazzled alongside Eagle in Melbourne, with the reaction across sports media running overwhelmingly positive.
The streamer is expanding its NFL package from two games to five this year, including the opening-week matchup in Australia, a Thanksgiving Eve game, and a Saturday night game in Week 18, and Kuechly is expected to anchor most of that slate. Between Netflix and his new CBS ****** ignments, he's on pace to call somewhere in the range of eight to 10 games as a game ****** yst this season, on top of his usual Sunday work as a Panthers radio ****** yst. Kuechly is also replacing Bill Belichick opposite Peyton Manning on The Breakdown.

Wake Forest is next on the schedule and they just allowed Purdue to throw for 329 yards and a touchdown on 32-of-42 passing.

Seriously, now what? How will the AP Top 25 voters pick their teams this week after making a statement by leaving Michigan out last week, and with Oregon losing to Oklahoma State, and after Texas made its big comeback win over Ohio State?

After one of the most interesting Week 2 weekends in a long time, there should be plenty of movement, and we try to predict what the voters will do.
The call: Texas will make the move up from 4 to 1 after beating the previous No. 1, Ohio State – but this is a true guess. No. 2 Georgia has been dominant so far.
Michigan was technically 28th after its close call win over Western Michigan. But after taking down No. 11 Oklahoma, the 2-0 Wolverines will move back into the top 25.
Oregon was No. 2, was mediocre in a win over Boise State and dropped to 8. After losing to an Oklahoma State team that lost to Tulsa the week before, the Ducks will (probably) drop out of the top 25 entirely.

The Dallas Cowboys are back! And, of course, it's another start to the season where the Cowboys roll into MetLife Stadium to take on the New York Giants. The Giants have many questions heading into the 2026 season with a whole new coaching staff after a season where they managed to win only four games. Let's break it down then get to some predictions.
Expect the Giants to make the running game the starting point of their new offense. John Harbaugh has brought in coaches with a history of building physical rushing attacks, while fullback Patrick Ricard and first-round offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa were added to help them play that way. Cam Skattebo gives them a powerful runner, but quarterback Jaxson Dart is just as important. Dart rushed for 487 yards and nine touchdowns as a rookie, so Dallas cannot simply chase the running back and forget about the quarterback.
The biggest opportunity for New York comes when Dallas starts worrying too much about the run. The Cowboys allowed 4,735 passing yards and 31 passing touchdowns last season, and Dart finished the year by completing 22 of 32 passes for 230 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in a 34-17 win over Dallas.
If Malik Nabers is cleared to play following his ACL recovery, his matchup against the Dallas secondary becomes even more important, although his Week 1 availability remains uncertain. The Giants' route to victory is to keep Dallas guessing with the running game and Skattebo, use Dart as a runner, then attack downfield when the Cowboys bring extra defenders toward the line.
Dallas should make New York prove immediately that its run defense has improved. The Giants surrendered 2,470 rushing yards last season, while Javonte Williams ran for 1,201 yards and scored 11 rushing touchdowns for Dallas. Running the football also has another benefit this week because the Cowboys will be without All-Pro guard Tyler Smith following thumb surgery. T.J. Bass will replace him, so giving the offensive line manageable situations rather than asking it to pass protect on every play makes sense.

Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo spoke with reporters on Friday. He shared his expectations for the defense against the Denver Broncos in Week 1 and improvement goals throughout the season.
"Listen, other coaches have said it, and I feel the same. It might take the first month, that's four games. I guess we're going to have the bye (week) into it; it may take that (long) to figure out exactly," said Spagnuolo. "Now, you just hope that while you're figuring it out, you're finding a way to win some games because you don't want to be behind the eight ball after the first month, but that's real."
The Chiefs defense has done well over the last few seasons against a team's top wide receiver. In 2025, the unit held quarterbacks to under 200 yards passing per game. Spagnuolo hopes to build on that, with veterans influencing the new players.
"I think that's real, now, if you have a really, really veteran team, it might be a little bit different, but because of the way the league is with free agency and all that, it seems like we've always got some new pieces that we've got to get used to, probably more so this year," said Spagnuolo. It's going to take a little while, but it's the reason why, when we went into this game plan, we tried to shave things off because we want the guys to play as fast as they can."
Kansas City ranked in the top 10 in points allowed, giving up 19.3 points per game. They will be in for a battle on Monday Night Football against a lethal Broncos offense with their starting quarterback Bo Nix back on the field. He is confident in the defense being up for the challenge after three preseason games.

Four matchups with a defense carrying a bottom-3 Defensive Impact grade have somehow produced 43.5 yards per game and 1.6 yards per route for Smith. He's 17th among wide receivers in PFN's Week 1 rankings, and I read that run as goofy variance and nothing more. With A.J. Brown in New England, we could get a spike performance right out of the gates.
The Commanders have held a bottom-3 Defensive Impact grade in consecutive seasons, and guess what?
For whatever reason, they've held Smith in check in four matchups over that stretch.

Metcalf sits 34th among wide receivers in PFN's Week 1 rankings, which is what happens after the worst season of your career. The Falcons allowed seven receivers to clear 20 PPR points last season, so the setup is there, and so is the Michael Pittman theory. I'm going to be a week or two late to this party rather than early.
Let's call a spade a spade: Metcalf is coming off of the worst season of his career. His 850 yards were a new low-water mark and even that was inflated by two games where he had superhero singular plays that lifted his stat line (274 yards in games against the Ravens and Vikings, 576 in his other 13, good for just 44.3 yards per contest).
Aaron Rodgers is back at the helm and the team added Michael Pittman this offseason, a receiver who has effectively made a career off of what the Steelers asked of Metcalf in his first season with the franchise: short targets and hope.

Metcalf's 11.3 aDOT was, you guessed it, the lowest of his career, and featured just 24.2% of his looks coming deep downfield (15 or more yards), a rate that stood at 43.5% in 2024 with Seattle.

The Braves had 'em all the way. Yep, had 'em all the way. At least, that's what we'll tell ourselves whenever a scintilla of a memory of this game pops into our brains, right? It took 12 innings, a brief blip from Chris Sale, and run-scoring scrambles in the ninth, tenth, and eleventh, another huuuuge hit from Ha-Seong Kim, and finally, a walkoff rope off the bat of Drake Baldwin, but the Braves ultimately prevailed in the opener of the final series against their division rivals.
How do you recap this game? It felt like living a few different lifetimes. I guess we'll just go sequentially, but this is a game that warrants watching the highlights.
After a 45-minute weather-related delay, things got started and Sale pretty much picked up where he left off. The top of the Philadelphia order went down on a flyout and two nasty strikeouts. Aaron Nola retired the first two Braves he faced, but then Matt Olson broke a two-week homerless slide with a slice the other way that juuust managed not to go foul and instead became his 38th longball of the year. A homer from the recently homer-shy Braves offense seemed to be an auspicious sign, but things quickly took a turn for the worse.
After the first two outs of the eighth, Edmundo Sosa caught a Sale slider and yanked it for a single. Sale then issued a rare walk to Bryan De La Cruz of all people, and then hit J.T. Realmuto with the next pitch, loading the bases.

Astros fans, for all the criticism Joe Espada has received during his tenure as manager, maybe it's time to take a step back, look at what he's actually been asked to work with, and give the man his flowers.
Managing a baseball team is easy to criticize from the outside.
Every pitching change can be second-guessed. Every lineup can be dissected. Every decision involving the bullpen, a pinch hitter or a defensive replacement can become a debate.
Espada certainly hasn't been perfect.
But when you stop evaluating individual decisions and start looking at the bigger picture, it's difficult to argue with what he's accomplished.

The Chicago Bears' 2026 season has finally arrived, and it couldn't come soon enough. Fresh off their 11-6 regular season in 2025 that saw them capture the NFC North and advance to the divisional round of the postseason, hopes are sky high for the Bears going into 2026, led by head coach Ben Johnson and quarterback Caleb Williams. And for good reason.
Williams broke through and ascended to become one of the upper-echelon quarterbacks in the league last season thanks to unreal throws and miraculous comebacks, while Johnson brought a tenacity to the locker room, along with his ever-evolving offensive mind, to build the Bears into a powerhouse. Now the Bears enter the year as contenders and aim to do something they haven't done in 20 years: Go to the postseason two years in a row.
As with any NFL season, things will ebb and flow each week. Legendary performances will be followed by clunky outings, and each game will be seen as a referendum on the entire year as it's dissected for six straight days. A lot is going to happen, and we're taking our best guesses as to what will take place in 2026. Here are our yearly bold predictions for the upcoming Chicago Bears season.

Actor Zac Efron grew up before our eyes, becoming a household name thanks to starring in the High School Musical movies (which are streaming with a Disney+ subscription). The Los Angeles Rams, the heavy Super Bowl favorites entering the season, opened the year in the NFL's first-ever game in Melbourne, Australia, against the San Francisco 49ers. The majority of the attention the Rams have gotten this offseason has been centered on the defensive line, which was bolstered by the acquisition of the NFL's single-season sack record holder Myles Garrett and the return of Aaron Donald from retirement.
However, Los Angeles also has one of the most potent offenses in the league, with reigning league MVP Matthew Stafford passing to two of the best wide receivers in the league, Davante Adams and Puka Nacua. Unfortunately for Nacua, he's been caught up in some off-the-field trouble recently.
Ahead of kickoff on Thursday, Nacua sat down with Netflix's Elle Duncan and spoke candidly about his struggles wth alcohol.
"I think I learned that I'm very avoidant of conflict, which is very interesting due to the football nature of… I would like to say I play very physical, just avoidant of the things that I know were causing me stress," Nacua told Duncan.
"Just, I think some of the change in lifestyle that came up to me, becoming a public figure, the stress of performing at a high level," he responded after being asked what was causing him stress. "And then I recently became a father. My son is 10 months old. And navigating that co-parenting relationship with his mother, I would kind of isolate myself to feel like the weight of all the issues and things that I have was stuck on my shoulders, and not being willing to ask for help. I was never one to share my fears and my worries. I was always Finding different ways to escape, I guess, from that tension or that stress."

Being a fantasy manager often means having to make difficult roster decisions, but I aim to take some of the guesswork out of it with my Start 'Em and Sit 'Em column for every position. It goes without saying that I won't include obvious calls like "start Trey McBride" or "sit Tommy DeVito." Instead, I search for players that could be perceived as fringe that could propel your lineups for weekly wins.

Kyle Pitts Sr. @ PIT (Projected FPTS - 9.4): Despite the news of Cooper Rush likely being named the Week One starter, I am still high on Pitts. He finished last season as one of the top fantasy tight ends with Kirk Cousins under center. Besides, Atlanta doesn't really have many options for pass catchers after Bijan Robinson and Drake London, and new head coach Kevin Stefanski typically uses his tight ends. Pittsburgh is also a favorable matchup, allowing 11 touchdowns and the third-most points to the position last season.
Dallas Goedert vs. WSH (Projected FPTS - 8.5): Goedert finished last season with a career-high 11 touchdowns. While it's easy to ****** ume some regression, the Eagles traded A.J. Brown, and rookie wideout Makai Lemon is coming off a hamstring injury. Philly's passing attack will likely feature DeVonta Smith and Goedert for at least the early part of the season. He will take on a Commanders team that allowed 12 touchdowns the season before (tied for the second-most). Goedert should expect to see a fair share of targets, making him worth putting in your lineup.

A longtime NBA journeyman recently named Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry as one of the league's top five players. In an interview with HoopsHype, 14-year NBA veteran Danilo Gallinari spoke about his career and the current state of the NBA. When asked to give a top-five list of current players, Curry was the first name he said. "Current Top 5, I always, I guess I always go with the old heads first: Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and LeBron James. And then I put Anthony Edwards and Nikola Jokic."
Gallinari, a former No. 6 overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, played for eight different franchises, with his longest stop coming in Denver. Despite suffering two ACL tears during his career, the Italian forward put together an impressive resume, playing in 777 career games, averaging 14.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.9 ***** ists and 0.7 steals while shooting 42.8% from the floor and 38.1% from beyond the arc. His strongest campaign came with the Los Angeles Clippers during the 2018-19 season, where he averaged 19.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.6 ***** ists and 0.7 steals. Gallinari's final season came during the 2023-24 campaign, where he played for three different teams, the Wizards, Pistons and Bucks.

Hello! I'm back this year with BGN, as always, and I'll have two review articles and two preview articles every week. If you missed the first preview of the year, make sure you check it out here.
The same Week 1 warning applies here. Washington's new offensive coordinator, David Blough, has never called an NFL offense, so there is no real film that tells us exactly what Vic Fangio will be preparing for. We can make educated guesses based on Blough's background and what Blough has said publicly, but anyone claiming to know precisely what this offense will look like is guessing.
It's really hard for me not to spend the whole article comparing Sean Mannion and David Blough, but the similarities are so obvious. Blough only stopped playing quarterback recently and spent the past two seasons as Washington's ******* istant quarterbacks coach under Kingsbury. Before that, his playing career put him around a wide range of offensive coaches, including Ben Johnson in Detroit and Kevin O'Connell in Minnesota. Washington has also been open about wanting to move away from some of the philosophical elements of Kingsbury's offense, particularly by becoming more balanced and using more under-center play action. Sound familiar?!
Blough's challenge is deciding how much to change. Daniels has already spent two seasons getting comfortable in Kingsbury's system, particularly operating from shotgun, using tempo, and using his legs a lot. Daniels looks like someone suited to a shotgun, spread-heavy RPO offense.
Throwing all of that away would make very little sense. At the same time, Washington didn't change coordinators because it wanted the exact same offense, so I would expect the eventual structure to keep some of the shotgun and RPO elements Daniels already excels at while adding more motion, heavier personnel, under-center formations, and a more connected run and play-action game. Once again… sound familiar?!

Mike Vrabel is not second-guessing how he prepared the New England Patriots for their season opener. The Patriots rested their starters throughout the preseason, creating questions about whether the lack of live game action contributed to Wednesday night's 13-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Vrabel firmly rejected that suggestion Thursday.
"Playing the backups for the Eagles or the Colts, I don't think was going to prepare us for what we saw last night," Vrabel said, according to NBC Sports Boston's Phil Perry.
The Patriots were not overwhelmed physically by Seattle. They led the defending Super Bowl champions 10-0 through three quarters and were in position to win despite losing star receiver A.J. Brown to an ankle injury. Everything changed during the final 15 minutes.

Last week was about as good of a start to the season as we could have asked for.
About the only things that are sticking with me is trusting Rutgers as a 30-point favorite over UMass last Thursday, along with seeing Ohio State cover late. Had the Buckeyes not scored that final touchdown, I would have been on the mark when it comes to my Buckeye score prediction.
Now to hope this week brings us similar success.
At least now we have a little bit to go on after seeing each team at least once. While I'm not going to say things are going to get easier going forward, at least it wouldn't be quite as much of a guessing game as it usually is in the first week.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Notre Dame tight end James Flanigan knew exactly how he wanted to celebrate scoring his first career touchdown in the stadium where his father and grandfather played.
Flanigan's father and grandfather, both named Jim Flanigan, each played for the Green Bay Packers. After scoring on a 3-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter of No. 4 Notre Dame's 41-13 victory over Wisconsin at Lambeau Field, Flanigan pumped his fist in the air just as his dad used to do during his own playing days.
"I saw some clip of my dad, there's like this highlight reel out there I've watched before," Flanigan said. "I used to make fun of him for doing it, but now it's kind of become my thing, I guess. It's just super fun."
Flanigan's father also played at Notre Dame before launching a 10-year NFL career as a defensive tackle with the Chicago Bears (1994-2000), Packers (2001), San Francisco 49ers (2002) and Philadelphia Eagles (2003). He won the NFL's Walter Payton Man of the Year award in 2000.
Flanigan's grandfather, who died last year at the age of 80, played linebacker for the Packers from 1967-70 and New Orleans Saints in 1971. His 1967 Packers team won Super Bowl II.

One of the biggest acquisitions by any team of the 2026 offseason has been out of practice throughout most of the preseason.
But Rams defensive end Myles Garrett returned to practice on Sunday, after missing plenty of time with a knee issue.
"Yep, he's going to do some stuff," coach Sean McVay told reporters on Sunday regarding Garrett's anticipated participation.
The Rams will issue their first injury report for Week 1 on Monday. That will contain some information, but not much, regarding Garrett's specific injury and his level of participation.
Our guess? He'll be listed as limited (knee). And he'll likely end up being described on Wednesday as questionable (knee). And then the 49ers will find out, along with the rest of us, whether and to what extent Garrett will be available on Thursday night in Australia.

Aryna Sabalenka is clinging on to her US Open **** le and the world number one spot after an unconvincing win over Taylor Townsend.
The Belarusian battled through 6-4, 6-3 on Arthur Ashe Stadium in a bizarre match which featured 11 breaks of serve from 19 games.

Nottingham Forest manager Oliver Glasner claimed the video **** istant referee (VAR) was "guessing" and should not have intervened in ruling out Neco Williams' goal in their 0-0 draw with Tottenham.
Williams' second-half effort was chalked off with the full-back adjudged to have bundled the ball in with his arm after some calamitous Tottenham defending at the City Ground.
The Forest defender denied it came off his arm and insisted it should have stood.
Initially, referee Craig Pawson awarded the goal but VAR Peter Bankes intervened.
"I watched five or six different angles and, to be fair, from one angle you can guess that the ball touched the arm because the shirt moves a little bit, but it's not clear is it the ball or [Sandro] Tonali on the goalline," said Glasner.

A clip from the latest Forged in Foxborough episode has gone viral.
It's a video from the New England Patriots' joint training camp practice against the Philadelphia Eagles. A.J. Brown being traded to New England back in June instantly made it one of the most anticipated joint training camp practices of the year.
The Patriots came out firing on Day 1 with the offense consistently getting the better of the Eagles' defense. Most notably, Patriots quarterback Drake Maye's connection with Brown seemed unstoppable at times. There was one sequence where Brown separated from a defender on a route and caught an easy touchdown pass from Maye.
Williams could be seen standing on the sidelines trolling his former Eagles teammates, who had to watch Brown score for the Patriots.
"Guess who? Guess who?" Williams said.

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Keion White has opened up about the difficult recovery from a gunshot wound to his right ankle.
White was shot during an altercation at a San Francisco nightclub in the early hours after NFL Super Bowl 60. The injury fractured his talus bone and required surgery, with doctors inserting two screws into his ankle.
"It's different because it's trauma instead of just, like, breaking an ankle with a sports-related injury," White said, via The Athletic. "When you hurt yourself in football, there's a protocol for **** near everything."
Then he said, "Football players don't just get shot every day," while mentioning, "I mean, I guess they do on this team," referring to the incident involving Ricky Pearsall.

The Premier League have announced their nominees for the Manager of the Month and Player of the Month awards for August, with ****** nal receiving nominations in both categories.
Mikel Arteta has been nominated for Manager of the Month, having led ****** nal to two wins and a goal difference of +4 in the Gunners' opening two games of the new campaign.
No other manager can better that, but Enzo Maresca can match it with Manchester City. Though City have conceded twice more than ****** nal, they've also scored twice more.
It's not hard to guess the other two nominees, as they're the managers of the other two clubs to win two from two – Hull City's Sergej Jakirovic and Chelsea's Xabi Alonso. Voting is open here until Monday, September 7th at 12:00 BST.

Liverpool have completed a £4.3m deal for French forward Djylian N'Guessan from St-Etienne.
The 18-year-old will spend the first half of this season on loan at Ligue 1 side Brest, officially joining the Reds in January, when his situation will be reviewed.
N'Guessan is a product of the St-Etienne academy. He made his debut in January 2025 and featured 13 times, scoring one goal. St-Etienne have a sell-on clause in the deal with Liverpool.
As with goalkeeper Lucca Brughmanns, who was signed on transfer deadline day in a deal that could be worth up to £30m, the move for N'Guessan is a result of work from Liverpool's global talent department that is led by Matt Newberry.
The forward featured seven times for France at the 2025 U20 World Cup and was also named in the team of the tournament at last summer's U17 European Championship.
