Baseball is the Spitaleri family business and, right now, business is booming.
Led senior Sean Spitaleri, Glen Rock is back in the North 1, Group 2 sectional final June 5, taking on Ramsey. Spitaleri is a pitcher/first baseman with a 9-1 record on the hill, a team-high 15 doubles and 28 RBIs. He's the North Jersey Male Athlete of the Week, presented by HSS.
Spitaleri couldn’t escape baseball even if he wanted to – news flash, he doesn’t – his father, Steve, is the Panther's head coach and his brother Jack is a starting outfielder.
“I am not here without my teammates or my coaches,” Spitaleri said after getting home from the Panthers sectional semifinal win in Vernon on June 3. “My whole team deserves a lot of recognition. I’m super lucky to be surrounded by a bunch of great guys, our bench guys bring energy and effort and that fires me up to give 110 percent.”
Sean has heard the question his entire high school career: What’s it like to have your dad as a coach? The answer is he loves it. Steve was a standout at Dominican University and runs a private baseball academy. Sean remembers being exposed to baseball growing up but not overly pushed in that direction.

The 2025 Kentucky Wildcats football team struggled to create explosive plays on offense, especially at wide receiver. However, Kendrick Law was an exception. He showed off his speed and athleticism multiple times, an it got him drafted by the Detroit Lions in this year's NFL draft.
Unfortunately, Law's NFL debut is going to have to wait. On Thursday, Lions head coach Dan Campbell told reporters that Law tore his ACL at practice. That will almost certainly end his rookie season before it had a chance to begin.
Law began his college career with the Alabama Crimson Tide as a top 100 recruit. He spent three seasons there, but wasn't able to break out, and transferred to Kentucky prior to his senior season. In his lone season in Lexington, he finally showed what he could do, recording 53 receptions, 540 yards, and 3 touchdowns.
The Lions selected Law with the 168th overall pick, a fifth rounder, to play alongside Jameson Williams and Amon-Ra St. Brown. It was a good landing spot with room for him to earn some playing time. Now, he'll have to wait until 2027.
It's an unfortunate injury for any player, especially a rookie picked in the later rounds. We wish Law the best in his recovery, and hope to see him on the field in the future.

GREEN BAY – Less than a year ago, while still rehabbing from his torn ACL late in the 2024 season, Christian Watson got a little patience from the Green Bay Packers with a one-year extension.
It provided a runway for Watson to return without the pressure of a contract expiration hanging over him. More time to prove he was back to full speed.
Turns out, he didn’t need it.
Watson reached an agreement on a second extension June 4, a four-year, $110.5 million deal that will retain the Packers’ top receiver long term, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The deal includes a $31 million signing bonus and dwarfs the one-year extension worth up to $13.25 million he signed last September.
The new extension makes Watson the NFL’s 15th-highest-paid receiver at $27.625 million annually. Watson might have scaled higher on the market with a healthy season this fall, but much like Jayden Reed did earlier this offseason, opted for more security up front.

The Green Bay Packers are locking up wide receiver Christian Watson for the long haul on a mega multi-year extension.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Watson is signing a four-year deal worth $110.5 million to remain in Green Bay. The contract also includes a $31 million signing bonus.
Watson was set to hit free agency next offseason, and though the young receiver has shown promise through four seasons, he has been unable to stay healthy and post consistent production when on the field.
2026 has been considered a make-or-break year for Watson, but the Packers have decided to sign him to a long-term extension before training camp kicks off, which tells us a lot about quarterback Jordan Love and Green Bay's offense.

Manchester City are drawing up contingency plans in their search for a marquee midfielder, identifying Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali as a primary alternative should a deal for Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson collapse. Following Bernardo Silva’s departure from the Etihad Stadium, City’s hierarchy—led by director of football Hugo Viana—are prioritising a high-energy midfield reinforcement. England international Anderson remains the top target, but securing his signature is proving complex and costly. Nottingham Forest have already rejected City’s opening formal proposal, holding out for a potentially record-breaking fee for the 23-year-old. While City prepare to go back with a second bid, the Cityzens are wary of being priced out and have placed Tonali high on their backup shortlist. Tonali, who has been closely monitored by several elite clubs including ****** nal and Manchester United, could leave St James’ Park this summer. While Anthony Gordon’s high-profile move to Barcelona has eased some financial restrictions, Newcastle’s lack of European football means a significant midfield departure remains highly likely.
Renowned for his work rate, ball-winning ability and progression from deep, the ‘brilliant’ Tonali could slot into a midfield pivot alongside Rodri or fill a more advanced central role. However, moving for Tonali would not be without obstacles. Newcastle are reportedly holding out for a fee between £80m and £100m. For City, the path forward is clear: they will push hard to close the gap with Nottingham Forest on Anderson’s valuation, but if negotiations stall, Etihad chiefs are ready to redirect their financial power toward tempting Tonali to Manchester instead.

Having set the Premier League alight in his debut season in England, Eli Junior Kroupi (19) is being heavily linked with a departure from AFC Bournemouth this summer.
The Frenchman netted 13 league goals, a record for a teenager in their debut season in the Premier League. His performances have caught the eyes of some elite sides. PL champions ******* nal, who also reached the final of the UEFA Champions League, are a potential destination for the France youth international, valued at €100m, as per The Guardian.
Paris Saint-Germain, who retained their European crown thanks to their win over ******* nal last weekend, have also been cited as a suitor. Foot Mercato even reported earlier this week that the Parc des Princes was Kroupi’s favoured destination.
However, Get French Football News understands that Kroupi is not a target for PSG. The club are, nonetheless, looking to add to their attack this summer. AS Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche and Yan Diomandé have been touted as options.

One thing that has been a surprising talking point around the Boston Red Sox this season has been their struggles at Fenway Park.
Typically, Fenway Park is an advantage for the club. It's hard to play off the Green Monster out in left field, but Boston is able to get used to it. The dimensions in right field are tricky with Pesky's Pole. It's a tough place to play, but the Red Sox typically are good at home. That hasn't been the case this year. Boston is 10-20 at home so far this season after a win on Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles.
Earlier in the Orioles series, Red Sox utility man Isiah Kiner-Falefa raised some eyebrows by talking about the difference between playing at home and on the road this season.
"I just feel like on the road we’re a very close-knit team, we come home and there’s just a lot of people. It’s different. It’s just a different vibe at home," Kiner-Falefa said. “We’ve got to figure out a way to make it small like how it is on the road. I just feel like at home we see a lot of people we don’t know that are around this area… we gotta find a way to bring that back home.”

On June 1, ***** eX issued an amended registration statement for its upcoming IPO that contains a couple of noteworthy additions to the original filing submitted two weeks earlier. In one new provision, the rocket and AI giant announced that it will reserve 5% of the offering's shares for "certain employees and persons… which may include parties with whom we have business relationships and friends and families of our executive officers." The document adds that these grants "will not be subject to a lockup restriction." In other words, the folks who receive these allocations, unlike Elon Musk and top execs who can't sell for around a year, are free to unload their holdings any time after ***** eX's debut, slated for mid-June.
These recipients could pocket gigantic windfalls overnight. It's now widely reported that in the IPO, ***** eX will issue 555.6 million shares at $135 each to raise roughly $75 billion. So it's handing friends and family and chosen employees the right to buy $3.75 billion in shares (5% of $75 billion) at the insider price paid by investors, primarily anointed big institutions, that purchased in the underwriting phase. How much the executives, their relatives and ***** eX business partners gain right away depends on how much ***** eX's stock pops on day one. Of course, we don't know what will happen to ***** eX shares once the bell rings at the Nasdaq. A substantial rise over the pre-trading price would send the valuation into the stratospheric $2 trillion range or higher.
But IPO jumps typically average around 20%, and a strong pop is highly valued by both issuers and book-running bankers as the hallmark of the deal's success. If ***** eX scores a 20% ***** p, the group would reap an immediate gain of $750 million. At 30%, we're talking $1.125 billion. And once again, they're free to exit at any time.
An extra surprise buried in the amended S-1 could provide a pivotal clue for ***** eX's future plans. It's a single new sentence on page 51, in the "Acquisitions, Divestitures and Other Strategic Transactions" section. ***** eX states, for the first time, that it "may issue a significant amount of equity in connection with future transactions." A number of Wall Street observers noted that this declaration is too strong to be dismissed as boilerplate language, and suggested that it boosts the probability that ***** eX will purchase Musk's second largest holding, Tesla. This writer explored this strong possibility in a piece last week.
The "may issue a significant amount of equity" alert trained the spotlight on a big potential deal ***** eX had already discussed in the first S-1, but didn't then attract much notice: Its option to purchase venture-backed AI coding ***** istant Cursor for $60 billion in an all-stock transaction. The acquisition looks highly likely, since if ***** eX cancels, it's agreed to pay a total of $10 billion in breakup and service fees. The looming buy raises a red flag for ***** eX shareholders; a Curs

Today the Memorial Tournament, which is hosted by former Ohio State Buckeye Jack Nicklaus, gets underway at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the tournament, and will feature the majority of the golfers currently in the top-10 of the Official World Golf Rankings.
For many of the golfers teeing it up at Muirfield at Jack’s Place, it will be their final tune-up before the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in two weeks.
The first Memorial Tournament took place in 1976, with Roger Maltbie defeating Hale Irwin in a playoff. The next year Jack Nicklaus would go on to win the tournament that he hosts. The second **** le for the Golden Bear came in 1984. Nicklaus is one of six golfers with two wins at the Memorial.
Last year Scottie Scheffler had little trouble winning the tournament for a second straight year, beating Ben Griffin by four strokes.
This year Scheffler will try and join Tiger Woods as the only golfers to win the Memorial in three straight years. Woods has won the Memorial five times during his career, which is the most of any golfer. When Woods won in 2012 he registered his 73rd PGA Tour victory, which tied Nicklaus for second-most at the time.

The San Diego Padres continued their freefall toward mediocrity with their fifth straight loss to the Philadelphia Phillies this time by the score of 3-2 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on Wednesday night. The Padres were finding ways to win despite their inconsistent offense through the first 50 games of the season but have not had that same luck over their last 10 games. San Diego is 2-8 over that span and is in danger of being swept by Philadelphia for the second time as they enter the final game of the series today at 10:05 a.m.
The Padres had their chances, yet again, to win a game against the Phillies, who had Christopher Sanchez on the mound, but like the day before, they failed to come up with a clutch hit with one out and runners on the corners in the top of the eighth inning. Fernando Tatis Jr. reached on a one-out single and was followed by Miguel Anduja, who singled to put runners on the corners. Manny Machado struck out for the second out of the inning, but then Gavin Sheets walked to load the bases and Xander Bogaerts was hit by a pitch to force in a run to make the score 3-2. With the bases loaded Ty France hit a ground ball to Philadelphia second baseman Bryson Stott who forced out Bogaerts at second base to end the threat and the inning.
Phillies closer Jhoan Duran got his second save of the series facing just three Padres in the ninth inning. He got Jackson Merrill to lineout and then struck out Bryce Johnson and Samad Taylor to close out the contest. Merrill provided the lone highlight for San Diego with an RBI-single off Sanchez in the top of the seventh inning. He followed France who hit a two-out double and came into score with Merrill’s hit. It was the first run allowed by Sanchez in 50.2 innings.
Walker Buehler started for the Padres and pitched six innings, allowing one run on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Jason Adam, who has not been the same dominant reliever since returning from his ruptured quadriceps tendon, allowed home runs to J.T. Realmuto and Kyle Schwarber in the bottom of the seventh inning, which proved to be the difference in the game. San Diego will try to salvage the series with a win today.

The New York Knicks took the 1-0 lead in the 2026 NBA Finals after a 105-95 Game 1 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, June 3, at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio. The Knicks are three wins away from capturing their first NBA championship in 53 years.
Jalen Brunson was the driving force for the Knicks, scoring 30 points with six **** ists, and four rebounds. Karl-Anthony Towns provided a double-double, adding 18 points and 12 rebounds, while also anchoring the defense. Their combined efforts sparked a comeback from a 14-point deficit in the second half.
In the Spurs’ defeat, Victor Wembanyama notched 26 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks in his first NBA Finals appearance. Though he struggled with efficiency, shooting just 6-for-21 from the field, Wembanyama said after the game that it was a bad night for him and the team will "need to let that one go."

Notre Dame is getting its fair share of preseason hype — which is going to just annoy the ******* out of the Irish haters out there. One pundit who’s been known to be an Irish hater, but is actually just a math nerd (with all love and respect, respectfully) is ESPN’s Bill Connelly who is the creator of the SP+ index.
The Irish are 3rd right now in the SP+ (OFF 3, DEF 9, SOS 62) which projects Notre Dame to be right where we all want them to be come time for the CFP.
Here is a recent prediction from Bill over at ESPN:
This year, the two marquee games don’t come until Weeks 7 (at BYU) and 10 (Miami at home), and the question marks are minimal. CJ Carr could be the nation’s best QB, and coordinator Chris Ash’s defense returns 14 of the 20 players who saw at least 200 snaps and adds four solid transfers. The Irish are projected favorites of at least 17.4 points in 10 games. If they are reliant on the CFP committee to let them in, that’s on them.
With Carr, leading receiver Jordan Faison, 2024 playoff hero Jaden Greathouse and players responsible for 41 of 60 offensive line starts returning, Mike Denbrock’s offense has the basics covered. The Irish will need some new burst in the skill corps, though, without running backs Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price and receiver Malachi Fields. It’s easy to ******* ume that some combination of RB Aneyas Williams (9.3 yards per carry), Greathouse (14.1 yards per catch in 2024), sophomore WR Micah Gilbert, young Ohio State receiver transfers Mylan Grahamand Quincy Porter, and any number of recent blue-chippers could provide the necessary pop, but we’ll still need to see it happen.

Jalen Brunson changed Shaquille O'Neal's mind with one NBA Finals performance originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The NBA Finals are supposed to expose weaknesses. For years, critics have searched for one in Jalen Brunson. He's too small. He's not athletic enough. He's not a true superstar. He's not someone who can carry a team to a championship.
On Wednesday night in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, Brunson delivered another reminder that those conversations may finally be over. The New York Knicks star scored 30 points and took complete control of the game when his team needed him most, helping lift New York to a 105-95 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. More importantly, he earned something else afterward: the full respect of one of basketball's most recognizable voices.
Even Shaquille O'Neal admitted Brunson answered questions he still had entering the series.
Speaking on TNT's postgame coverage, O'Neal revealed he wasn't entirely convinced about how Brunson would handle the Finals spotlight against San Antonio's length and defensive versatility.

President Donald Trump has compared the UFC structure being built at the White House to the Eiffel Tower and says he may "never, ever take it down".
The UFC is set to host an unprecedented show on the South Lawn of the home of the United States' leader in Washington DC on 14 June, to mark 250 years of American independence.
Construction has started, with workers ***** embling domed arches over a staging area which will become the octagon.
Trump says he may choose to leave the arena standing because it is "attractive to a lot of people", like when Paris decided to keep the Eiffel Tower.
The famous structure, built in 1889 as part of the World's Fair to celebrate 100 years of the French Revolution, was planned to be taken down 20 years later before French authorities decided to keep it.

Dave Portnoy’s reaction to the Spurs-Knicks court invader was extreme, but the scare itself showed why the NBA cannot shrug off this kind of stunt.
The interruption came late in Game 1 of the NBA Finals at Frost Bank Center, with New York on its way to a 105-95 win. A fan rushed onto the floor with a cellphone and tried to get close to Victor Wembanyama.
It looked silly for a second, but that is exactly the issue. No player should have to wonder whether a stranger running onto the court is harmless.
In a post from Dave Portnoy, the Barstool founder gave the viral moment the kind of blunt response that made it even louder online.
“That kid who ran onto the court should get 10 years prison.”

On Tuesday night, the Pittsburgh Pirates took down the Houston Astros 10-6 on the road. Third baseman Nick Gonzales was a huge part of the Bucs offensive success against Houston.
Gonzales went 3-4 with 3 hits and walked once. He has done a great job getting on base and producing in the middle of the lineup.
Gonzales leads the team with 65 hits after getting two more on Wednesday night, inlcuding a homer. He also has a batting average of .314 which is sixth in the Major Leagues. Gonzales may not show the most power, but he’s hit impressively well and held down third base this season. He now has 2 home runs and 29 RBIs, but with the high batting average and an OPS of .759,he has been a sneaky massive piece for Pittsburgh.
Players like Oneil Cruz, Bryan Reynolds, and Brandon Lowe are getting a lot of attention, but Nick Gonzales has to be the most underrated player so far. The Pirates are 33-29 and tied for second in the NL Central, and Gonzales deserves credit so far.
Gonzales recorded his second three-hit game over his last three contests and added a season-high three runs scored in the Tuesday victory. On Wednesday, he extended his hitting streak to a modest five games and is hitting .476 (10-for-21) during the stretch.

Former Scotland striker Alan Brazil says he is "very, very lucky to be here" after undergoing a liver transplant recently.
The 66-year-old, who now works as a broadcaster, revealed that his heart stopped beating during the procedure.
"I'd had ongoing trials and seen so many specialists and they decided I needed a transplant," Brazil told Talksport.
"I finished [work] at quarter to 10 and at 10 I had to phone Addenbrooke's Hospital. They said 'get in right now'.
"At two thirty that afternoon I was on the slab and they opened me up. I was under for something like eight hours.

The Carolina Panthers cut bait with outside linebacker DJ Johnson, one of the biggest draft busts in franchise history, over eight months ago. But somehow, their decision to move up and select him back in 2023 was made to look even worse this week.
Between Tuesday and Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers gladly handed over contract extensions to pass rusher Nick Herbig and tight end Darnell Washington. Herbig inked a pretty massive four-year, $100 million pact while Washington struck a cool four-year, $42 million agreement.
So, what do they have to do with Johnson and the Panthers?
Well, Herbig and Washington landed in Pittsburgh thanks, in large part, to the trade former Carolina general manager Scott Fitterer made to take Johnson. Fitterer sent the Steelers the 93rd and 132nd overall picks of that draft in exchange for the 80th—which would be used on the very raw 25-year-old defender.
Pittsburgh then scooped up Washington with No. 93 and Herbig with No. 132. (Those picks, by the way, were initially acquired by the Panthers in their trade of superstar running back Christian McCaffrey.)

Altman recognized that token budgeting has recently become a "huge issue" for companies.

A Barchart report today shows unusually heavy trading in Oracle Corp (ORCL) put options ahead of its earnings due out next Wednesday, June 10, after the market closes. This may signal investors are bearish on ORCL stock, just as occurred last quarter.
