The NFL adding an 18th game to the schedule seems inevitable, but longtime NFL reporter Peter King isn't buying the league's argument for it whatsoever.
In an appearance on The MMQB NFL Podcast this week, King laid out why he believes the plan runs in direct contrast to the NFL's efforts to make the game safer and more sustainable for players' long-term health.
"The NFL is ******* -bent on playing an 18th game, and then they say, 'Well we're taking away one of the preseason games,'" King said. "That's the most disingenuous pile of ******* I've ever heard in my life. And everybody knows it. Everybody knows it. The fans, the commissioner, the owners, they all know it."
It turns out King has done the math. The longtime Sports Illustrated reporter explained that today's NFL starters are on the field for "hundreds" more snaps per season than they were during the career of Mike Webster, the first prominent case study for CTE in the sport. The level of stress put on players' bodies and brains is, as a result, significantly more intense.
"One of the reasons I hate the concept of the 18th game is that … you've gotta read what I (have written) about (Kansas City offensive lineman) Creed Humphrey versus Mike Webster," King said.

Reality TV contestant Stephen Bear has been jailed for 16 months after admitting breaching a restraining order that banned him from posting online about his ex-girlfriend Georgia Harrison.
The order was imposed when Bear was sentenced to 21 months in prison in 2023 after he filmed and shared a video of the pair having **** on OnlyFans and WhatsApp without Miss Harrison's knowledge or consent.

The Love Island star and campaigner said Bear's online presence left her "feeling petrified" and she feared for her safety for the first time, in a statement read to Chelmsford Crown Court.
Bear admitted the charge of harassment - breaching of a restraining order, at a previous hearing in June.

Enzo Maresca has not ruled out Man City duo Tijjani Reijnders and Savinho departing the club.
Reijnders is believed to be of interest to Nottingham Forest, while Savinho has been a long-term target for Tottenham.

USA cricketer Bodugum Akhilesh Reddy has been banned from all forms of cricket for eight years after being found guilty of breaching the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Anti-Corruption Code.

According to a press release from the ICC, the 26-year-old's punishment is linked to corruption during the 2025 Abu Dhabi T10 tournament in the UAE. The ban has been backdated to November 21, 2025, when he was provisionally suspended.

The ICC, which was overseeing anti-corruption matters for the tournament on behalf of the Emirates Cricket Board, found him guilty on three counts.

According to the ICC, Reddy violated: "Article 2.1.1: Attempting to fix, contrive or otherwise influence improperly, or being party to an agreement or effort to fix or contrive in any way or otherwise influence improperly, the result, progress, conduct or other aspect of matches in the ADT10 2025.

"Article 2.1.4: Soliciting, inducing, enticing, instructing, persuading, encouraging or intentionally facilitating (or attempting to do the former) another Participant to breach Article 2.1.1 of the Code in one or more Matches in the ADT10 2025.

"Article 2.4.7: Obstructing the DACO's investigation through deletion of data and messages from a mobile device which may have been relevant to the DACO's investigation."
The case relates to an incident on November 19, 2025, before the opening match of the Aspin Stallions. The tribunal found that Reddy approached a teammate, identified as 'Player A', and asked him to "give runs" while bowling, allegedly on the instructions of team management.

After the teammate refused and reported the approach to the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit, he was dropped from the playing XI. Investigators also found that Reddy deleted WhatsApp chats and call logs with the player before the probe. Although he claimed it was routine "data hygiene," the tribunal ruled that he had deliberately destroyed evidence.

Reddy has played four T20Is for the USA, claiming one wicket. The verdict was delivered by a three-member ICC Anti-Corruption Tribunal.

Liam Payne's behavior reportedly grew increasingly erratic during the final hours of his life, with newly obtained witness statements offering one of the most detailed accounts yet of what unfolded before his fatal fall. Two women who spent several hours with the former One Direction singer on October 16, 2024, described the condition of his Buenos Aires hotel room, his alleged substance use, and the troubling escalation they witnessed before leaving shortly before 4 p.m. Payne died just 67 minutes later after falling from the balcony of his third-floor room at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel. He was 31.
Bruno Marzi / MEGA
According to sworn statements obtained by the Daily Mail, Aldana Serrano and Lucila Goitea arrived at the CasaSur Palermo at approximately 11:30 a.m. after Payne allegedly contacted Serrano through an escort website. Serrano initially questioned whether she was actually communicating with the world-famous singer and reportedly asked him to prove his identity.
"Liam contacted me via WhatsApp today (October 16, 2024) around 11 am. The whole time he spoke to me in English. He told me who he was and he sent me a video of him. The video wasn't current; it was him singing," she told investigators. "He also sent me pictures of him which he took while he was in bed, before we got there."
The hotel reportedly collected the women's identification before allowing them to enter room 310, enabling authorities to locate them quickly following Payne's death. "He was alone in his room. He greeted us warmly and I asked him for payment. We tried to communicate, but it was difficult because he only spoke English and I only Spanish," Serrano recalled.

Meta's AI capital spending ballooned to $130-145 billion, cratering free cash flow 91% and sending shares down 10%, while social media revenue surged 28%.
META dominates India, a market 4x the size of the US with no rival close, boasting 837 million WhatsApp and 531 million Instagram daily users.
Act now: the **** yst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just named his top 10 AI stocks — and Microsoft didn't make the cut. Grab the names FREE today.
Two things happened to Mark Zuckerberg's Meta (NASDAQ: META) yesterday. Earnings showed how much the company was investing in AI, and data centers particularly. This drove the stock down 10%. At the same time, it became clear that it had become the dominant social media presence in the world's largest nation based on population. Daily active users of its Instagram platform are rising at a level that is hard to imagine. Meta should abandon the AI sector, where it is already a loser, for it, and one where it cannot catch up. It should focus on its core business, which is doing better than expected.
Meta's top line growth rate remains impressive based on its size. In the quarter, revenue rose 28% to $60.8 billion, which keeps it on track to be one of the largest companies in America by that yardstick. Ad impressions were almost as strong and were up 14% year over year. These are the company's revenue engine.

Stephen Fleming always seems to possess a wonderful sense of timing. It was on 12 July that England made the decision to stand down Brendon McCullum as Test head coach and, in serendipitous circumstances, on 13 July that the man they would come to anoint as his successor began his search for a new job. It was nothing more than mere coincidence that the Chennai Super Kings and Fleming mutually parted ways so soon after his former teammate's departure, but within three days he was expressing interest in the England role in a newspaper interview, and within three weeks impressing the ECB interview panel sufficiently for a hasty appointment after Andy Flower had withdrawn himself from consideration for the role.
Not that Fleming will arrive with undue hustle or hurry; Marcus Trescothick will take interim charge of the three Tests against Pakistan this summer before the 53-year-old begins a four-year deal ahead of the tour to South Africa in December. While Fleming has expressed a desire to spend time with his family, it is a curious situation that again highlights the mistake made by the ECB in not taking the opportunity for a clean break after the Ashes.
Stephen Fleming has not worked in the red-ball game as a coach (Getty)
One might term this, then, a marriage of convenience – a coach in search of a new challenge taking over a team in need of new direction. On the face of it, Fleming's credentials are modest: there is no red-ball coaching whatsoever on his CV, nor any past suggestion of a desire to turn away from a franchise T20 circuit he was perhaps the first coach to truly master. He had even turned England down in 2009, feeling it was too soon into his coaching career.

In the countryside west of the Welsh capital, farmers have a WhatsApp group to warn of suspicious vehicles and some have barricaded the entrances to their fields with concrete blocks and fallen trees.
"They're watching us - which is probably the most disconcerting part about it," said Chris Edwards.
"We harvest the field and within hours, they're there."
He's seen gates "smashed off their hinges" and crops destroyed by trespassers illegally hunting hares with dogs. Neighbours have faced threats, "verbal and physical", when they've tried to intervene.
South Wales Police confirmed the Vale of Glamorgan was seeing an increase in hare coursing, and said the force was taking action.

A federal appellate panel on Tuesday refused to block President Donald Trump's executive order seeking to restrict mail voting, a day after the administration asked the U.S. Supreme Court to weigh in on the proposal in a separate case.
The three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia upheld a May ruling by U.S. District Court Judge Carl J. Nichols that said an injunction against the order was premature. Nichols ruled that the Democrats and voting rights groups who challenged the order couldn't seek the injunction until the Trump administration issued formal regulations governing it. The administration started releasing those directives days later.
The circuit court panel, with two judges appointed by former Democratic President Barack Obama and one by Trump, found that was proper and there were no noted dissents. But the unsigned decision noted that if the administration truly tried to force such changes in the few months remaining before November's midterm election, it may well get halted by courts.
"The action the Order contemplates would involve the President, whom the Constitution vests with no express authority over the conduct of elections, undertaking a substantial and unfunded overhaul of election procedures — including the implementation of a nationwide reform to Postal Service mail-handling processes —on the threshold of the November election. Put differently, the Order 'may not prove feasible to implement in any manner whatsoever,'" said the ruling, quoting a prior legal opinion.
In a separate case filed by Democratic state officials, a federal judge in Massachusetts last month blocked the executive order from taking effect for this year's elections because it was already forcing states, which are granted the power under the U.S. Constitution to control their own elections, to revise their procedures on the fly. That ruling was upheld on Saturday by a Boston-based appeals court and then was appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday by the Trump administration.

In a week where an AI model went rogue and broke out of a secure test environment—and in a year where seemingly all we're hearing is how AI can displace large swaths of the workforce—it may come as a surprise when one of the tech's most prominent voices is pushing an optimistic view of the tech, joining the many in his field who have recently walked back comments of how it could negatively impact workers.
"As we enter this next wave with AI, we continue to believe the future is for everyone," Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote as the caption to a short video on Thursday, harkening back to the company's early years of tech optimism.
"Call us optimists, call us dreamers, call us whatever the ****** you want, but we're betting on people, and we like those odds," the voiceover in the video said.
The video featured montages of people using Instagram, Whatsapp, FaceBook and Meta's Ray-Ban glasses to film touching moments and connect with loved ones, with the backdrop of concerts and snowboarding and laughing children set to calm music as the voiceover framed Meta's AI efforts as doubling down on betting on people, just like the company did 22 years ago with FaceBook.
Marketing experts told Fortune that the Meta video's reliance on nostalgic imagery seemed like a way to redirect attention from AI concerns and to buffer against growing AI fears.

The director of the country's premier American history museum said she has no regrets about any of the museum's exhibits during her tenure after an expert confronted her with a "shocking" display that he said smeared Founding Father Benjamin Franklin.
Smithsonian National Museum of American History Director Anthea Hartig faced intense questioning from lawmakers during two Capitol Hill hearings this week. The hearings followed a White House Domestic Policy Council report accusing the museum of using taxpayer dollars and its status as a world-renowned institution to advance a "radical activist ideology."
During a House hearing Tuesday, Heritage Foundation expert Mike Gonzalez testified that a multiyear special exhibit, "The Electric Dr. Franklin," included a display that "pondered whether he had ever done experiments, electrical electroshock on indentured servants or slaves."

On July 2, Wolfe Research reaffirmed its Outperform rating on Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META) stock with a price target of $800 on the shares. The brokerage updated its call on Meta stock following a Bloomberg report that Meta is building a cloud infrastructure business similar to Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. According to the report, Meta plans to sell computing power and models to AI developers to capitalize on the growing demand for AI compute capacity.
Wolfe Research believes that Meta's potential cloud offering could provide a big boost to the company's earnings. Borussia Dortmund are in no rush to enter talks with head coach Niko Kovac over a new contract, says club CEO Carsten Cramer.
Kovac is entering the final year of his contract with Dortmund. and although Cramer underlines that the management is happy with his work, the club's immediate focus lies elsewhere for now.
"The basic message remains: We are extremely satisfied with Niko. But, without wanting to reveal too much: we are still in the process of finalising the squad," Cramer told Kicker.
"Then we will begin pre-season and, just like last year, we will start the discussions at the right time. That was not the priority task during the seven weeks of holiday," Cramer added, emphasising that Kovac is also "completely relaxed" about his future.
"Niko hasn't been constantly sending WhatsApp messages or using his agent to send messages on his behalf."

Vinicius Junior was one of the most productive players at the 2026 World Cup, despite Brazil’s disappointing early elimination at the hands of Norway in the Round of 16.
The Real Madrid winger produced a series of eye-catching displays for the Selecao, and now that his international commitments are over, attention turns to his future at the Bernabeu.
On that front, there appears to be little cause for concern.

On Friday, RAN dropped a bombshell of a report (BFW covered it here), which indicated that former head coach Julian Nagelsmann had created drama by adding Manuel Neuer to the German national team and that Neuer subsequently tried to have Alexander Nübel booted from the squad in favor of Jonas Urbig.
The DFB has issued a statement to deny those claims (via iMiaSanMia):
A recent report by http://ran.de claimed that Manuel Neuer's national team comeback caused internal conflicts, that Julian Nagelsmann acted unilaterally and didn't consult the team, which made goalkeeping coach Andreas Kronenberg consider resigning, and also that Neuer didn't want Alexander Nübel to be in the squad and wanted Jonas Urbig instead
The DFB has denied these claims in a statement: 'The DFB denies that Julian Nagelsmann acted unilaterally regarding the goalkeeper situation, and that Andreas Kronenberg threatened to resign. While the decision was discussed controversially and critically, the entire team stood behind it. The DFB also firmly denies that Manuel Neuer had any influence whatsoever over the squad selection or attached any conditions to his comeback, such as demanding that Alexander Nübel be dropped from the squad or that Jonas Urbig be called up instead.'
After such an epic flameout, there were always going to be leaks — likely detailing internal strife. We saw the same thing happen in both 2018 and 2022. In this case, though, the DFB is looking to move past the Nagelsmann Era pretty quickly, though, and with what looks to be the rapid hiring of Jürgen Klopp, everyone might be inclined to just turn the page on all of the behind-the-scenes details that helped lead Germany to another unfulfilling World Cup.

Klaviyo Inc. (NYSE:KVYO) is one of the top stocks to buy according to Whale Rock Capital Management. On June 30, Klaviyo Inc. (NYSE:KVYO) announced that Composer, its AI marketing agent, moved into public beta, alongside major upgrades to its existing Customer Agent. Both tools are built directly into Klaviyo's customer relationship management platform and now share the same real-time customer data, which means actions taken by one agent make the other smarter over time, the company said.
everything possible/Shutterstock.com
Klaviyo designed Composer to solve two common problems marketing teams face, starting with figuring out where to focus their efforts and not having enough time to act on opportunities. The tool also identifies high-value opportunities, builds the campaigns needed to capture them, and carries out the work automatically rather than just offering suggestions.
On the other hand, Customer Agent handles customer service and support. The tool works across multiple channels, including web chat, email, text messages, and WhatsApp, and users can set it up once to run consistently everywhere or embedded into a brand's own custom interfaces.
According to Klaviyo, most companies investing in AI have not yet seen meaningful returns. As such, the company is positioning its dual-agent approach as a way to close that gap by connecting marketing and service functions instead of running them separately.

One of the most important stocks in the market (given its size), Meta Platforms (META), continues to be a stock I, and plenty of others, remain very bullish on long-term.
Much of that has to do with the company's rock-solid underlying business. A leading social media and online advertising giant, Meta's ecosystem, consisting of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and plenty of other key applications the vast majority of us use every day, makes this a company that passes the "toothbrush test" (we need to use it twice a day).

He left for Southern Miss last season, bringing along a slew of top Thundering Herd players with him. It worked, turning a 1-11 team into a solid 7-6 team that got to a bowl.

Memphis needed a coach, and now Huff is at his third head coaching gig in three years.

His situation with the Tigers is a bit like the expectations he had at Marshall.

Memphis is a winner.

It hasn't had a losing season since 2013, and won 21 games in two years before former head coach Ryan Silverfield's bunch went 8-5 last year.

Silverfield left for Arkansas, Huff stepped in, and there's no grace period whatsoever.
Almost the entire team is made up of transfers, but there's continuity with 12 key players coming over from Southern Miss.

But can Memphis win in the American Conference with (mostly) a Sun Belt team?

It came up with one of the stronger coaching hires in the cycle to find out.
Head Coach: Charles Huff (1st year; 6th year overall, 39-25)
