Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) is discussing a financing backstop that could change who bears the risk of OpenAI's next infrastructure expansion. The Wall Street Journal reported on July 26 that Nvidia was in talks to guarantee roughly $250 billion of financing for a proposed 10-gigawatt data center campus in southern Ohio, with OpenAI as a prospective tenant. Reuters said the project, being developed by SoftBank's SB Energy, could cost more than $500 billion including hardware. Nvidia was also reportedly discussing separate financing of as much as $350 billion for chips at the site.
These are negotiations, not completed commitments. Nvidia's connection runs through two specific financing channels. A guarantee could let lenders underwrite the OpenAI lease against Nvidia's stronger credit, while separate chip financing could fund purchases of Nvidia's own accelerators. Both could accelerate product deployment, but the guarantee would also expose Nvidia to customer-credit and project-execution risk. That proposed combination explains why investors worried that some future chip demand may depend on the supplier helping customers finance it.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is linked through OpenAI's cloud spending, not through general AI-sector exposure. If OpenAI directly leases and controls the Ohio campus instead of buying the equivalent compute through Azure, Microsoft could avoid some capital burden but miss the related cloud-infrastructure revenue and control over workload placement. It does not, however, establish that OpenAI is leaving Microsoft.
The companies' April 27 amended agreement says Microsoft remains OpenAI's primary cloud partner and OpenAI products will ship first on Azure unless Microsoft cannot and chooses not to support the required capabilities. OpenAI can serve products across other cloud providers, while Microsoft retains a non-exclusive license to OpenAI models and products through 2032 and remains a major shareholder. An October 2025 agreement also included an incremental $250 billion commitment by OpenAI to buy Azure services. The Ohio proposal therefore represents infrastructure diversification at the margin, not a clean break.

Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) has seen its valuation drop significantly, to the extent of becoming a value investment play pursued by income-focused investors. The stock has been under pressure owing to waning COVID-19 product sales and issues compounded by potential loss of exclusivity on key drugs.
Nevertheless, a robust drug portfolio, substantial cash-generation potential and a high dividend yield continue to strengthen its sentiment. Its valuation is also significantly below that of many large pharmaceutical peers as the stock trades at about 8.7x trailing adjusted earnings and with a low sales multiple of 2.2x.
A solid dividend payout record is another important part of the investment thesis. The company currently pays $0.43 per share quarterly, equivalent to $1.72 annually, resulting in a dividend yield of around 7%.
The largest challenge is the continued normalization of Pfizer's COVID franchise. The company expects revenue from its COVID-19 products to decline by approximately $1.5 billion in 2026. It also expects approximately another $1.5 billion of negative revenue impact in 2026 from products facing generic or biosimilar competition following the loss of patent or regulatory exclusivity.

Port Vale have continued their recruitment drive before the start of the new season with the signings of defenders Aaron McGowan and Lewis Montsma on one-year deals.
McGowan, 30, has been on trial at Vale Park following the end of his contract with Tranmere Rovers this summer.
He played under Vale boss Jon Brady at Northampton Town and helped the Cobblers win promotion to League One in the 2022-23 season.
Dutchman Montsma joins Vale following the expiration of his contract with Dundee this summer.

Chelsea FC winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been cleared to make an immediate return to action after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) partially upheld an appeal against his four-year ban for doping.
The 25-year-old has not played a competitive match since November 2024 after returning an adverse finding for banned substance meldonium.
Having been provisionally suspended by the Football ****** ociation (FA), Mudryk was then widely reported to have been given a four-year ban – though appealed to Cas against that decision.
The body has now ruled that Mudryk can return "with immediate effect" after he accepted breaking anti-doping rules, and reached agreement on a suspension equivalent to time served.
Cas said the test displayed "a low concentration" of the prohibited substance. It added that changes have since been made to the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) technical document regarding meldonium, a cardiovascular medication.

NEWCASTLE, England (AP) — Newcastle players headed to a preseason training camp in Spain on Friday amid uncertainty over their coach less than a month before the start of the Premier League season.
Eddie Howe was expected to leave the job and would be replaced by Matthias Jaissle, according to multiple media reports in Britain. Newcastle had yet to confirm any changes Friday.
Reports said sporting director Ross Wilson would oversee coaching duties in the interim.
Newcastle's training camp in Spain concludes Aug. 8 with a friendly match against Valencia at Mestalla Stadium.

Southend United have signed midfielder Rico Richards from Port Vale for an undisclosed fee on a two-year contract, with a club option of a third year.
The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Walsall where he made just one start in League Two.
Richards was previously part of the Stockport County squad which won promotion to League One in 2023-24, making 11 league appearances.
"I watched [Kieron Dyer - Southend United head coach] in games while I was growing up, and he's very experienced on the pitch, so I'm sure he can teach me a few things," Richards told the Shrimpers' website.

Most tickets to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics cost hundreds of dollars, and the most coveted seats at dozens of high-profile events cost more than $1,000, according to fans who won the opportunity to purchase tickets in LA28 presales.
LA28 organizers have not publicly released a full price catalog, but fans have compiled spreadsheets with a complete list of prices for all 800-plus ticketed events. The Athletic, via screenshots and screen recordings, has independently confirmed many of the prices, which range from $28 (for the least desirable seats at lower-profile events) to $5,519 (for a lower-level seat at the opening ceremony).
The prices, across the board, are by far the highest in Olympic history. In many cases, tickets to LA28 are more than twice as expensive as an equivalent ticket at the 2024 Paris Olympics — whose prices sparked controversy in France.
The L.A. organizing committee's justification is similar to the one that guided FIFA's 2026 World Cup approach. "Pricing is rooted in heavy ****** ytics and extensive market demand research around entertainment and live sports in the U.S.," an LA28 spokesperson told The Athletic. In other words, Americans are accustomed to paying a lot for sports tickets.
Beyond the opening and closing ceremonies, the single most expensive sporting event at the 2028 Games is the men's basketball final. The top two ticket categories are reserved entirely for hospitality package buyers, who get courtside seats. A Category C seat — in the lower bowl along the sideline or in a corner — costs $3,350.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight Robert Valentin returns to action this weekend against hometown fighter Dusko Todorovic on the UFC Belgrade main card, which goes down Sat., Aug. 1, 2026, inside Belgrade Arena in Belgrade, Serbia.
And for the first time in a while, Valentin sounds like himself again.
It has been a brutal two years for the Swiss fighter, who entered UFC with plenty of eyeballs on him after a strong run on season 32 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF). Unfortunately, his official Octagon career got off to a nightmare start.
Valentin was stopped by eventual TUF winner Ryan Loder in the finale (watch highlights). Triathlete Mohamed Lahna has competed in three Paralympics, winning a bronze medal for Morocco in 2016 and a silver medal for the United States in 2024. He's no stranger to extreme endurance events, either, having swum the Strait of Gibraltar and completed the Marathon des Sables in the Sahara Desert.
But on July 29 in Los Angeles, Lahna crossed a finish line and into unprecedented territory when he completed a cross-country triathlon that he started on June 13 in New York.
The 44-year-old, who was born without a right femur, is believed to be the first athlete with a prosthesis to complete a triathlon across the United States.
Lahna traveled through 16 states and covered a total of 3,300 miles – equivalent to completing 206 Paralympic sprint triathlons or more than 23 Ironman triathlons. For 47 consecutive days, he rose at 4:30 a.m. and battled persistent pain, extreme weather and tough terrain.

Eni raised its 2026 oil and gas production outlook and expanded its share buyback program after reporting significantly stronger second-quarter results, supported by double-digit production growth, higher commodity prices and improved performance across several business segments.
The Italian energy company now expects underlying full-year hydrocarbon production growth of around 5%, up from its previous guidance of 3% to 4%, following 11% year-over-year underlying production growth in the second quarter to 1.79 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, excluding price effects.
The improved outlook prompted Eni to increase its planned 2026 share repurchase program to €3.4 billion, up from the previously revised €2.8 billion, while reaffirming its planned dividend of €1.10 per share. The company also said an extraordinary dividend could be considered later this year if refining margins remain well above budget ****** umptions.
Second-quarter adjusted EBIT more than doubled year over year to €5.38 billion, while adjusted net profit rose to €2.3 billion. The upstream business generated €4.77 billion in adjusted EBIT, benefiting from higher production, favorable oil realizations and continued cost discipline. Cash flow before working capital reached €4.47 billion, comfortably covering €1.84 billion in capital spending and €1.35 billion returned to shareholders through dividends and buybacks during the quarter.

Everything in the world of Gonzaga basketball hinges on the courtroom right now. Mario Saint-Supery was lured away from his upcoming sophomore season by a four-year contract to play professionally in Valencia, and Mark Few was left without a point guard. That vacated roster spot, as well as the one left open by one-time commit Jack Kayil, however, may have come at exactly the right time. UCLA's Donovan Dent and Skyy Clark are among the group of fifth-year seniors suing the NCAA for one more season of eligibility, and Gonzaga is reportedly in the mix for both. If the Zags are able to land both, this roster stops looking like an eleventh-hour rebuild and starts looking like the key ingredients for a top-five squad.
This is particularly vital because Gonzaga's non-conference slate for the 2026-27 season is arguably the toughest Mark Few has ever scheduled. The Bulldogs are already projected in the AP preseason top 20-to-25 range even before the eligibility rulings (hopefully) break their way, and the schedule does not let up from November through February.
Gonzaga has never been the type of team to schedule a patty-cake non-conference schedule and hopefully start firing on all cylinders by the time conference play rolls around. Rather, the Zags have spent the last decade scheduling a grueling non-conference slate to serve as a preview of the kind of competition they expect to see again in late March. Here are the games Zag fans should circle on their calendars now, regardless of who will or won't actually be suiting up for the Bulldogs.
Gonzaga has unfinished business with Purdue, which ended the Zags' 2024 season in the Sweet 16 behind Zach Edey's 27 points and 14 rebounds. This one opens the season on a neutral floor.

Matt Richards has created Wales swimming history by winning a fourth Commonwealth medal at one Games.
Richards, 23, claimed silver in the 200m freestyle alongside James Guy after the Englishman recorded the same time with Australian Kai Taylor taking the gold.
Only Valerie Davies in the first Games in 1930 and Michael Richards and Martyn Woodroffe 40 years later had previously managed three medals in one Games.
Matthew Richards has now surpassed them with his tally of two silver and two bronze with the swimmer having not won a Commonwealth Games medal before Glasgow.
He was part of two bronze relay squads before claiming his first individual podium position with silver in the 100m freestyle on Tuesday night.

Becoming a member of the Dallas Mavericks marks the realization of a dream Sergio De Larrea had for years. This year's NBA Draft finally paved the way for the young guard, and he is now preparing to begin his professional journey in the NBA.
De Larrea reflected on the opportunity during an exclusive interview with The Smoking Cuban in Las Vegas during the opening days of the Summer League. He also shared how he envisions his role at the NBA level.
"Try to be in as much as positions as I can play. Let's see in the future I can play more positions, and this is gonna be for me to be a better player and be more versatile," he said.
De Larrea was originally selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 25th overall pick in the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft before his draft rights were later dealt to the Dallas Mavericks. He officially signed his rookie contract with Dallas in July, completing his move from Valencia Basket to the NBA organization.

With an average silver selling price of $44.70 per ounce during the year their average margin was $20.95/ounce. So, at the mine operating level they had contribution of $54 million. After SG&A, EBITDA for 2025 was $28.5 million. However silver prices today ($60/ounce) are substantially above last year's average price and in Q1 of 2026 they had EBITDA of $20 million. Mexico all but booked their ticket to the Quarterfinals of the CONCACAF U20 Championship after defeating Costa Rica by a 2-0 score. Mexico overcame going down to 10 players to get a victory that place them at 6 points, basically guaranteeing them to be at worst one of the two best third placed teams and thus the ticket to the Quarterfinals. Mexico will look to win the group against Guatemala on Thursday while Costa Rica faces off against Antigua and Barbuda earlier that day.
The 1st half started with Mexico coming out with most of the starting 11 from their opener against Antigua and Barbuda. Off a free kick, a cross into the area was almost deflected in by Gabriel Sibaja, as Costa Rica had the first chance of the match. Off a counter, Kionell Estrada got off a right footed shot in the area that went wide. A right footed shot from outside the area from Hugo Camberos went well wide. Both teams traded possession as the match became very even. A bad clearance allowed Matias Cordero to get the ball in the area but his shot was well saved by Mexico's goalkeeper, Juan Liceaga. After a harsh foul, there was a short scuffle between teams that ended with David Carro getting a Yellow card. The match continued to be extremely chippy as Mexico couldn't get going against Costa Rica's physical play. From outside the area, Samir Inda got off a great left footed shot that was deflected off the post. Mexico started to dominate possession as Costa Rica sat back and waited to counter. After a cross into the area was won by Santiago Sandoval, he would get brought down in the area by Adrian Espinoza and a Penalty Kick was given to Mexico. Hugo Camberos stepped up to take the PK and got off a thunderous right footed shot that went past Costa Rica's goalkeeper, Ian O'Rourke to score and give Mexico the 1-o lead. From outside the area, Juan Echivelstre got off a great right footed shot that forced O'Rourke to make a great save. Emmanuel Hernandez answered with a right footed shot from outside the area that Liceaga made a great save on it. The halftime whistle blew and after a slow start to the match, Mexico ended the half being the better team.
The 2nd half started with Mexico subbing out Carlos Hernandez for Yohan Orozco. Strangely three minutes into the half, Mexico subbed out Aldahir Valenzuela (possibly because of an injury) for Diego Reyes. A bad clearance from Liceaga ended up with him clearing the ball and kicking Sibaja in the face which earned him a straight red card. It was a terrible mistake from the goalkeeper that now placed the match in extreme danger with only 10 players. Mexico would sub out Juan Sigala for Cristo Navarrate, which because of the strange substitution of Valenzuela, meant that Mexico only had one window for subs for the rest of the match. Off a counter, Inda would make a great pass to Santiago Sandoval, whose left footed shot would be deflected by Emmanuel Brenes past O'Rourk and into the net to score and give Mexico the surprising 2-0 l
