Having tested the waters of managerial free agency, Mauricio Pochettino has decided to dive back into the world of international soccer, signing a new four-year deal to remain head coach of the U.S. Men's National Team.
His role since September 2024, Pochettino had little time to prepare his side for a home FIFA World Cup this summer. USA cricketer Bodugum Akhilesh Reddy has been banned from all forms of cricket for eight years after being found guilty of breaching the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Anti-Corruption Code.

According to a press release from the ICC, the 26-year-old's punishment is linked to corruption during the 2025 Abu Dhabi T10 tournament in the UAE. The ban has been backdated to November 21, 2025, when he was provisionally suspended.

The ICC, which was overseeing anti-corruption matters for the tournament on behalf of the Emirates Cricket Board, found him guilty on three counts.

According to the ICC, Reddy violated: "Article 2.1.1: Attempting to fix, contrive or otherwise influence improperly, or being party to an agreement or effort to fix or contrive in any way or otherwise influence improperly, the result, progress, conduct or other aspect of matches in the ADT10 2025.

"Article 2.1.4: Soliciting, inducing, enticing, instructing, persuading, encouraging or intentionally facilitating (or attempting to do the former) another Participant to breach Article 2.1.1 of the Code in one or more Matches in the ADT10 2025.

"Article 2.4.7: Obstructing the DACO's investigation through deletion of data and messages from a mobile device which may have been relevant to the DACO's investigation."
The case relates to an incident on November 19, 2025, before the opening match of the Aspin Stallions. The tribunal found that Reddy approached a teammate, identified as 'Player A', and asked him to "give runs" while bowling, allegedly on the instructions of team management.

After the teammate refused and reported the approach to the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit, he was dropped from the playing XI. Investigators also found that Reddy deleted WhatsApp chats and call logs with the player before the probe. Although he claimed it was routine "data hygiene," the tribunal ruled that he had deliberately destroyed evidence.

Reddy has played four T20Is for the USA, claiming one wicket. The verdict was delivered by a three-member ICC Anti-Corruption Tribunal.

United States President Donald Trump is no stranger to controversy, and he found himself in yet another one when he involved himself in FIFA's ruling to rescind the red card suspension handed to United States striker Folarin Balogun. In July, one of the nation's top Democrats, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, demanded that FIFA turn over all records related to its communications with Trump, members of his administration, and the Trump Organization.
If Raskin follows through with the probe, he may find correspondence FIFA President Gianni Infantino does indeed have plans in the works tied to people close to the Trump administration.

When Infantino runs for re-election as FIFA president in 2027, he'll do so without England's support. The English FA is reportedly drafted a letter pulling its support for Infantino ahead of the election, per The Times.
They aren't the only country to express that opinion. The Welsh FA was the first to announce it would not support Infantino's re-election bid. In a statement Monday, the Welsh FA cited "failures in good governance, processes, leadership, values, stakeholder management, communications and sound judgement" led to its decision, per rfi.fr.
"The Football ******* ociation of Wales hereby confirms its withdrawal of support for the candidature of Mr Gianni Infantino, for re-election as FIFA president for the 2027–2031 term," the FAW said in a statement.

Akhilesh Reddy has been suspended since November after being charged with three counts of the sport's anti-corruption code, which took place while competing in the Abu Dhabi T10 league.
The 26-year-old spinner has now been found guilty of charges relating to attempting to fix ‌or improperly influence matches, ‌trying to get another player to participate in the same ⁠activities and deleting data and messages from a mobile device relevant to the investigation.

Borussia Dortmund on Monday announced the signing of teenage Greek forward Konstantinos Karetsas from Belgian side Genk on a five-year deal, for a reported fee of 30 million euros ($34 million) plus bonuses.
The 18-year-old, who already has three goals in 10 appearances for Greece, laid on 11 ****** ists in the Belgian top flight last season.
Dortmund were looking for more creativity after the departure of the long-serving Julian Brandt, who left on a free transfer.

Borussia Dortmund have officially completed the signing of Greek international Konstantinos Karetsas from Belgian side KRC Genk. Karetsas gets set to begin the Bundesliga chapter of his career after signing a five-year contract with the Bundesliga runners-up through June 30, 2031. Kicker reports that Dortmund are paying a guaranteed transfer fee of €30m, with realistically attainable bonuses capable of increasing the package to €32m.
Genk have also reportedly secured a ten-percent share of any future transfer profit. Sport Bild places Karetsas' base salary at approximately €3.5m per year, with further performance-related bonuses built into his contract. The agreement concludes a prolonged transfer saga. Dortmund initially increased their offer to more than €30m after Genk rejected an earlier proposal.
The clubs subsequently failed to bridge the remaining financial gap, despite Karetsas having already agreed personal terms through 2031. Genk initially sought a guaranteed €35m and an overall package potentially reaching €40m.
Sporting director Nils Ole Book publicly addressed Dortmund's unsuccessful initial pursuit of Karetsas before electing to skip the club's tour of ****** an to continue working on the club's outstanding transfer business.

Nilsson, who was a surprise participant in the World Cup with Sweden, signed from Union St Gilloise two seasons ago but has struggled to have any real impact up front for Club Brugge. Reis only joined last summer from Hamburg but, due to injuries, fell out of favour and now it appears that Ivan Leko is wanting to go in a different direction.
The 29-year-old Nilsson not being part of the squad is not surprising. Club Brugge had reportedly tried to sell him last season but were unable to find a buyer or a club that the Swedish striker was willing to join. Nilsson scored 27 goals in 93 games for Union St Gilloise after leaving Wehen Wiesbaden in the summer of 2022. He joined Club Brugge in 2024 but has only scored 11 goals in 53 games. After playing 42 games in his first season, Nilsson only played 11 games last season, failing to score.
Reis, a former Barcelona academy product, left Hamburg after 129 appearances and 20 goals. He only played 12 games for club Brugge last season. There will certainly be teams in Germany that will be happy to bring the 26-year-old central midfielder back to the Bundesliga or 2 Bundesliga.

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the signing of Greek international Konstantinos Karetsas, who joins the club from KRC Genk.

MOSCOW, Aug 2 (Reuters) - A homemade bomb carried by a woman killed at least three people and injured 21 near an upscale restaurant in central Moscow on Saturday evening, ‌authorities said, amid unconfirmed speculation on social media that the attack may have been linked ‌to the war in Ukraine.

Russia's National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAK) said an unidentified woman carrying an improvised explosive device had tried to get into the restaurant but had been stopped by a security guard.
NAK said the woman, the guard and a customer at the Balzi Rossi Italian restaurant had been killed instantly in the blast that ‌followed.

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug 1 (Reuters) - Capital One Financial hit back on Friday against a lawsuit over its decision to close the Trump Organization's bank accounts years ago, stating that it did ‌so after a review by anti-money laundering experts.
The disclosure marks the first time a bank has ‌formally tied money laundering concerns to U.S. President Donald Trump's family business. Capital One is seeking to dismiss the case by casting doubt on claims of illegally debanking — or denying services on religious or political grounds — the Trump Organization.
The Trump Organization and Capital One did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Capital One has never accused the Trump Organization of illegal money laundering. But Friday's filing argues that "documents and Plaintiffs' own allegations make clear that Capital One closed Plaintiffs' accounts for anti-money laundering ("AML") reasons. The ‌closures were the result of months of ⁠analysis and a careful review by Capital One's AML team in accordance with bank policies and regulatory guidance."

How ironic that it would happen during duty for U-23s. In the final friendly match before Bayern Munich's U-23 season premiere, two U-19 talents filled in for those making their debuts for the Bavarians' senior team and duly picked up serious injuries. Bayern's official website has the details:
Painful news for Thibault Maspimby and Leopold Schmid : The [center back and defensive midfielder] suffered injuries in the FC Bayern Amateurs ' final pre-season friendly against SSV Ulm 1846 Fußball (1-3 ) on Sunday afternoon and will be sidelined for the time being. Maspimby, who came on as a substitute in the second half and made his debut for the Amateurs, suffered a knee injury. Schmid is out for now due to a forearm injury. We wish you both a speedy and full recovery!
Leopold Schmid had risen to prominence in the U-19s following David Santos Daiber's promotion to the U-23s in January 2026 and did an impressive job of filling the hole left behind. He would have hoped to have retained that momentum and perhaps push for a winter promotion to the U-23s of his own. He will need to regain the momentum now.
Thibault Maspimby, in the meantime, was an ever present for the U-17s last season and would have been so for the U-19s this season, as well. Hopefully this knee injury will turn out to be one of the less severe ones.

This week, it is fair to say that I have been slightly obsessed with Christopher Nolan's adaptation of The Odyssey. Without wanting to spoil anything (not that you can really spoil the plot of a story that originates from the 8th or 7th century BC), it focuses on the protagonist, Odysseus – one of the more cunning and intelligent Greek heroes who sailed to Troy to take part in the Trojan War, and the figure we would attribute the Trojan Horse to.
Nolan's adaptation focuses on Odysseus' hubris – where a figure believes they are above the rules, normal limits or consequences of their actions – and the subsequent aftermath. In Odysseus' case, he is faced with a dilemma. Is it worth sacrificing your moral core in order to be granted some supposed concept of glory?
The reason why I'm blabbing on about this is because of some of the, frankly, bizarre coverage I've seen regarding the Visitors and their current dilemma.
I don't want to retell it all at the risk of turning into some sort of Geordie Josh figure. However, the general gist is as follows: (Beh)Eddie Howe was restricted by unfair financial rules, designed by the "Top Six" mafia to protect their vested interests. Newcastle, a massive club, were never given a fair chance to succeed. As a result, the manager has had to resign because he couldn't possibly face the concept of developing young players with high potential in the Premier League. Their best players, like Claire Balding CBE and Sandro Tonali, have had no other option but to leave, being forced to go to undesirable places like Barcelona or London for more money.
Much like The Odyssey, it's all designed to pull at the heartstrings.
