Autonomous vehicle company May Mobility is merging with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) and will become a publicly traded company. It's a deal that could raise more than $300 million for May Mobility at a valuation of $1.4 billion, the company said Wednesday.
Once the merger is complete, May Mobility said it will be the first public company in the U.S. that is focused entirely on autonomous ride-hailing vehicles. This is meant to differentiate it from a number of other public companies working on autonomy, including Tesla, Rivian, Alphabet (with Waymo), and trucking-focused Aurora and Kodiak.
The move sets up May Mobility to be a test of the stock market's appetite for pure-play robotaxi ventures.
It will also be a test of May Mobility's approach to autonomy, which it pitches as "asset-light" and "partnership-first." Instead of owning and operating the robotaxis, May Mobility's business revolves around selling its autonomous vehicles to its fleet partners over time while maintaining control of any remote supervision and software updates. In exchange, May Mobility receives either fixed fees or per-trip licensing fees.
Founded in 2017, May Mobility currently operates autonomous Toyota Siennas in three locations in the U.S. It has a partnership with Lyft in Atlanta, and offers rides in two cities — Eden Prairie and Grand Rapids — in Minnesota.

The pocket posted 95.5% occupancy in the second quarter, two points above the Dallas metro average, anchored by roughly 12,000 corporate jobs from employers including Toyota, JPMorgan Chase, and Frito-Lay.
Because Legacy West's strength rests on continued corporate expansion rather than a larger price premium, its durability depends on employers in the Plano-Frisco corridor keeping up their hiring pace.
Apartments in Legacy West command the smallest rent premium of any demand pocket in the Dallas metro, yet the submarket needs fewer concessions to stay full than any of its peers, according to RealPage. The corporate-anchored district straddling the Plano-Frisco border averaged $1,845 in effective rent in the second quarter, a 9% premium over comparable metro properties. That's the smallest premium among the demand pockets RealPage tracks across Dallas, even though Legacy West's occupancy and leasing strength outperform them.

The Houston Rockets recently teamed up with Toyota for an annual day of service, where they honored both first responders and military personnel. Some of Houston's attendees included Reed Sheppard, Jae'Sean Tate, head coach Ime Udoka and general manager Rafael Stone. While there, Stone spoke to the media about his relationship with star center Alperen Sengun, revealing that he went to visit him in Turkey this summer.
"We had some good conversations at the end of last year. Part of it was Alpi putting pressure on me [to communicate better]." Stone went on to say that he spent nearly two weeks with Sengun in Turkey, spending time with one another each day. This is, of course, a great sign for Rockets fans, as Sengun and the front office appear to be on the same page.
Last season, Sengun made his second consecutive all-star appearance, averaging 20.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, 6.2 ******* ists, 1.2 steals and 1.1 blocks.

EL SEGUNDO -- The Los Angeles Kings held a practice in preparation for the 2026 Rookie Faceoff today at Toyota Sports Performance Center.
The Rookie Faceoff is an annual event held every year before the start of the season for some of the top prospects on certain teams, and one of many such events held throughout the NHL. This year's Rookie Faceoff takes place from Sep. 12-15 in San Jose, and will feature the Kings, Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks, Vegas Golden Knights, Colorado Avalanche and Utah Mammoth. Although many of the players involved will not play in the NHL this season, these events still unofficially kick off the 2026-27 campaign.
"There's definitely a feeling of, 'We're really representing the organization out of the gates to start the year,'" said Ontario Reign head coach Andrew Lord, who will lead the Rookie Faceoff team. "Yes, it's a rookie tournament … but we're representing the team."
The Kings' roster is highlighted by a handful of players, including 2025 first-round pick Henry Brzustewicz, 2025 second-round pick Vojtech Cihar, and top goalie prospects Carter George and Hampton Slukynsky. While playing together as a team, each individual player is also looking to stand out and prove themselves to the front office and the coaching staff.
"You can't worry too much about that," Slukynsky said. "Just focus on yourself and doing what you can do and controlling what you can control. Obviously, we're all competing with each other, but it's good that we push each other and we support each other and help each other get better, but everybody wants to play and compete. So it's been good and it's fun to compete with all these guys."

The NASCAR Cup Series circuit heads to the World Wide Technology Raceway, also known as Gateway, for the second race of the Cup Series Chase this weekend. Earlier this week, NASCAR released the full entry list for Sunday's Enjoy Illinois 300 as 36 drivers and teams are entered for the race.
Absent from this week's entry list are Corey Heim and Chad Finchum, who both raced in last Sunday's Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway. Heim, the defending Craftsman Truck Series champion and two-time Cup winner in 2026, is on a part-time basis in the Cup Series for 23XI Racing in the No. 67 Toyota.

During the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway, the No. 23 23XI Racing Toyota pit crew of Bubba Wallace set a new pit stop record while changing four tires during the race.
The crew completed the stop in 7.86 seconds, beating the previous record of 7.98, which was held by the pit crew for the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota of Christopher Bell and took place as Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March of the year. Those are the only two known four-tire pit stops under eight seconds.
Wallace's blistering fast pit crew responsible for the stop included front tire changer Austin **** ey, rear tire changer Adam Hartman, tire carrier Joe Crossen, jackman Nathan Ricketts, and fueler Joshua Pech.

Christopher Bell opened The Chase for the NASCAR Cup Series by earning his first victory of the 2026 season. After passing Kyle Larson for the lead with 12 circuits remaining, Bell captured the victory in Sunday night's Cook Out Southern 500 at the Darlington Raceway.
It was Bell's first Darlington win, first victory of the 2026 season and 14th career Cup win overall. The win was huge for Bell's championship hopes as he moved into the second position in the standings, 12 points behind leader Denny Hamlin.
It was a trying evening for Hamlin, who entered the Chase as the top seed. In the final stage, contact between Hamlin and Michael McDowell caused toe link damage on the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota.
The contact forced Hamlin to go a lap behind. The 45-year-old gained his lap back and ultimately finished 18th. Going into Darlington, Hamlin had a 25-point lead over second place Ryan Blaney. Now, the JGR driver has a 12-point edge over Bell.
William Byron had a difficult evening at Darlington as he posted a DNF of 37th place. The driver of the No. 24 suffered a flat tire in the final stage, then suffered an engine failure on the subsequent restart.

I think for us, where our car went was just track position. We got where it needed to be for that final restart. It was a little tough at the end, but we know where we need to be at the end of this race and years to come. Good day for the Chase. Really want to win this race bad and one day we will. It's good to be in contention every year."

The 47-year-old and co-driver Noel O'Sullivan won by 38.6 seconds ahead of Finland's Teemu Suninen, who won the ******* le with a round to spare.

A showdown for one of the top four spots in the USL Championship Western Conference table will be at stake when San Antonio FC hosts FC Tulsa on Saturday at Toyota Field.
SAFC (9-5-8, 32 points), fifth in the conference standings, and Tulsa (10-6-5, 35 points), which is ahead of San Antonio in fourth place, kick off at 7:30 p.m.
With eight games remaining in the regular season, SAFC is trying to climb up the Western table, as nabbing one of the top four spots would allow the club to host a first-round playoff game. The USL Championship playoffs start in November.
SAFC's playoff chances got a big boost last Saturday in Albuquerque after a 2-1 win over New Mexico United. With the victory, San Antonio knocked New Mexico out of first place in the Western Conference standings and halted the United's 13-match unbeaten streak. It was New Mexico's first loss since May.
The big win came at the right time for SAFC, which had lost two straight games at home coming into the New Mexico match and had been shutout in both matches, the first time this season San Antonio had lost two consecutive matches at Toyota Field and had been shutout in back-to-back games on its home pitch.

Legacy Motor Club, the NASCAR team owned by seven-time Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson and a host of celebrities, now has an open seat to fill ahead of next season.
The team announced on Wednesday, Sept. 2 that John Hunter Nemechek would not return to drive the No. 42 Toyota for Legacy next season. The news is both surprising and abrupt considering that Legacy announced sponsors for the 2027 season for Nemechek back in May.
"Legacy Motor Club has made the decision to part ways with John Hunter Nemechek at the conclusion of the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season," the team said in a statement. "We are grateful for John Hunter's contributions to Legacy Motor Club and appreciate his professionalism and commitment to the organization throughout his time with the team. We remain focused on finishing the 2026 season strong together and wish John Hunter the very best in the future."
Nemechek, who is in his fourth full-time season in the Cup Series — and third with Legacy — released his own statement after.
"I am incredibly grateful to Legacy Motor Club for the past three years. While I am obviously disappointed with their decision, I am as motivated as ever. It has been such an honor to represent Toyota, Legacy Motor Club and all of their sponsors," Nemechek said. "I can't wait to continue this journey, as I know my best days are ahead.

Daytona International Speedway had been unusually quiet Saturday night. Then, with five laps remaining, everything changed.
Carson Hocevar lost control of his No. 77 Chevrolet late in the ****** e Zero Sugar 400, slamming the outside wall before collecting Erik Jones in a violent crash that brought out just the third caution of the night.
The wreck instantly changed the complexion of NASCAR's regular-season finale after the field had spent much of the race avoiding the kind of late-race chaos that has become synonymous with Daytona.
Hocevar was racing in the pack in the closing laps when his car suddenly broke loose and shot toward the outside wall.
The No. 77 Chevrolet made heavy contact, and Jones had virtually nowhere to escape as the incident unfolded directly in front of him. Jones' No. 43 Toyota was collected in the crash and also sustained a significant impact.

23XI Racing driver Riley Herbst will miss the NASCAR Cup Series race at Daytona on Aug. 29, the race team announced hours before the green flag.
Herbst, the driver of the No. 35 Toyota, won't race after waking up on race day morning with "lingering effects from last week's incident" at New Hampshire.
Harrison Burton will race in the No. 35 for the ******* e Zero Sugar 400. Herbst had qualified the car in fifth, but Burton will have to move to the rear of the field due to the driver change.
"After a strong effort in qualifying yesterday, Riley woke up with lingering effects from last week's incident and, along with the team, decided it was in his best interest to step out of the car for tonight's race at Daytona International Speedway," the team said in a statement on social media.
Herbst, 27, crashed hard in turn 3 at New Hampshire after contact from Michael McDowell.

This year's playoff format is markedly different from its latest predecessors. The "win-and-in" format gave way to the Chase, popularized in the mid-to-late 2000s and early 2010s. The new layout rewards consistency as opposed to one-race excellence, offering a new path for riders who routinely place inside the top-five and top-10.
Toyota has shined in lieu of the change thus far — five of the top six performers helm the **** pits of the **** anese manufacturer, including regular-season champion Denny Hamlin.

Jermall Charlo was supposed to finally return to the ring in July after fighting just twice in the last five years, but visa issues prevented him from traveling to Australia, so his fight with Koen Mazoudier was canceled.
The boxer, who grew up in Alief and lives in Sugar Land, will finally get his shot at Mazoudier when the two face each other on the undercard of the super welterweight ***** le fight between reigning champion Sebastian Fundora and Ermal Hadribeaj on Oct. 17 in Las Vegas. The tripleheader, which also includes Weslaco's Brandon Figueroa defending his featherweight ***** le against Tomoki Kameda, will be broadcast on TNT.
Charlo (34-0, 23 KOs) is still undefeated, but he's been out of action since he stopped Thomas Lamanna in May 2025.
Taking on Mazoudier (16-4-1, 6 KOs), who is a relative unknown outside of Australia, should be a tune-up fight for Charlo, who has his sights set on bigger fights down the road if he can knock off the ring rust that's accumulated from years of little action.
The 36-year-old was one of the best boxers in the world, winning the middleweight ***** le in 2015, then successfully defending it three times before moving up to super middleweight and winning that ***** le as well. He won five straight ***** le defenses at super middleweight, but after beating Juan Macias Montiel in front of a raucous hometown crowd at Toyota Center in June 2021, Charlo faced several hurdles outside the ring, including a bout with depression.

Running from February through November, the NASCAR season can be long, grueling and unforgivable for its drivers, full of twists and turns, ups and downs.
It's been that way for Tyler Reddick this year.
The 30-year-old from Corning, California, started the year on an absolute tear and made history, becoming the first driver to win the first three races of the season. When he took consecutive checkered flags at Daytona, Atlanta and Circuit of the Americas, he did something that not even legends of this sport – such as Richard Petty or Dale Earnhardt – had accomplished.
By mid-April, Reddick had won five of the first nine races of the season, and most fans ****** umed he was going to ride that momentum all year and win his first championship in the Cup Series by a wide margin. Heading into June, Reddick still remained first in points with a comfortable lead.
Then the bad days started to pile up. His No. 45 Toyota got caught in a multi-car crash at Michigan and he didn't finish. Two weeks later in the street course race at Naval Base Coronado, Reddick was battling with teammate Corey Heim for the lead with less than three laps to go, then blew his left front tire and settled for a 25th-place finish.

A Florida high school football player has been held on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) hold for over a week, as first reported by TCPalm, part of the USA TODAY Network.
Emmanuel Nelson, an 18-year-old senior at Port St. Lucie High School, was driving a silver Toyota SUV when he was pulled over for going 45 mph in a 20-mph school zone, according to St. Lucie County court records obtained by USA TODAY. He received a citation for unlawful speed in a school zone on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
According to the police report, which was obtained by USA TODAY on Aug. 27, in the midst of the traffic stop, the officer ran Nelson's driver's license, which revealed he wasn't a U.S. citizen and that his working permits had expired. Nelson is originally from Haiti.
Because Nelson is a documented non-U.S. citizen, the officer contacted ICE, which placed a detainer on Nelson to determine where he should be placed into deportation proceedings. He was then arrested in handcuffs and transported to the St. Lucie County jail, where he was held for a week before being transferred to ICE custody in Broward County, where he remains as of this publication.
"It's just been a weird situation for the whole team, and it's not just for me," Port St. Lucie head coach Everette Alford told TCPalm. "All of his best friends are out there on the field, and they're missing him."

Despite strong sales and growing momentum, Hyundai (005380.KS) CEO Carlos Munoz is going on the offensive in the US.
Hyundai revealed at its 2026 CEO Investor Day today that it will build more of its cars on US soil and pack American showrooms with new hybrids and its first extended-range EV, the centerpiece of its most aggressive product push in its history. New trucks and even a mid-size Toyota Tacoma competitor are coming too.
Munoz is betting on localized US production and that a wave of in-demand hybrids can lift profits and rev sales even as the overall US car market sits in neutral.
"Our fundamentals have never been stronger. Hyundai Motor Group is the third-largest automotive group and the second-most profitable, which gives us the ability to invest while others are pulling back," Muñoz said in a presentation. The company is bringing "more than 100 new models to market by 2030 with multiple powertrain options" while "raising our operating margin above 9 percent."
Of particular importance is the upcoming Santa Fe midsize SUV EREV [Extended Range Electric Vehicle], due in the first half of 2027 and built at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama. It pairs a battery with an onboard charger for more than 600 miles of range.

Bell's pit stop during Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway produced one of the day's most frightening moments when right-side tire changer Blake Houston was knocked to the pavement as Bell pulled out of his pit stall.
Bell went on to recover and finish fourth. But after the race, his attention returned to the moment on pit road and, more importantly, Houston.
Bell explained that the sequence began with the signal he uses to leave his stall.

Archion Corporation, the newly-established holding company for **** anese truck-makers Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) and Hino Motors, reported its maiden quarterly financial results, for the first quarter of the current fiscal year and its outlook for the full year.
The company was established at the beginning of **** an's current fiscal year, on 1 April 2026, as the 100% shareholder of both Hino Motors and MFTBC. The truck-makers' former parent companies, Toyota Motor Corporation and Daimler Truck AG, each own 25% of Archion's equity, with the remaining 50% of shares publicly traded on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
Combined Hino and MFTBC revenues increased by 14% year-on-year to JPY 597.9 billion (US$ 3.76 billion) on a like-for-like basis in the April-June quarter of 2026, while operating earnings rose by 32% to JPY 29 billion before 'preliminary bargain purchase' gains.
Including the preliminary bargain purchase gains, applicable because "the fair value of the net **** ets acquired exceeded the purchase consideration transferred at the time of the integration," operating profit rose elevenfold year-on-year to JPY 262.3 billion, while net profits were up fourteenfold to JPY 262.3 billion.
Total vehicle sales rose by 14% year-on-year to 60,000 units in the April-June quarter, up from 52,000 units a year earlier, supported by "strong products, improved product offering and supply following the launch of new heavy-duty and light-duty truck models."

With two races remaining in the regular season, the NASCAR Cup Series heads north this week for the Dollar Tree 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
The winner of five of the first nine races this season, Tyler Reddick is the pole-sitter for Sunday's race in Loudon, New Hampshire. It's Reddick's first pole win since April at Kansas, and he's aiming for his first victory since then as well. The driver of the No. 45 Toyota for 23XI Racing is fighting through a bit of a midseason slump as he's finished 25th or worse in six of the last 10 races.
Reddick has had some solid results mixed in there, running second at Pocono, finishing inside the top-10 at Atlanta and the Brickyard 400, and salvaging an 11th-place finish last weekend at Richmond after catching a caution at the right time. Reddick's team could use a victory this weekend to build some momentum ahead of the postseason Chase.
"We fight through those hard days very well as a team. When we get into the Chase — I mean, ideally on paper, you don't want to have a bad race, but when it does happen, you know it's important to respond the right way," Reddick told USA TODAY Sports this week. "And I feel like our team does that. When something goes wrong, we don't just throw our hands up in the air and start complaining. We get to work. We start figuring out ways that we can make the most of the day or get out of the hole completely and still try and win the race."
Josh Berry will join Reddick on the front row and is aiming for what would be his fourth consecutive top 10 finish — something the 35-year-old has never pulled off before in his Cup Series career. Berry, driving the No. 21 Ford for Wood Brothers, ran second at New Hampshire last season.

Hyundai Motor is considering expanding production capacity at its Georgia ******* embly plant from 500,000 vehicles annually to between 700,000 and 800,000 units by 2028, CEO José Muñoz told CNBC on Thursday. The South Korean automaker said following publication of the interview that the plans are under consideration but not yet confirmed.
At the upper end of that range, the Georgia Metaplant would leapfrog rivals — among them Tesla and Toyota Motor — to claim the top spot among U.S. vehicle ******* embly plants measured by capacity.
Muñoz said President Donald Trump's tariffs, including a 15% levy on imports from South Korea, have accelerated the company's localization plans. "Tariffs are helping accelerate our localization plan. That's very, very simple," he said. "The good thing is that we had already started before tariffs were announced. So in a way it's helping us to accelerate."
Any such expansion would be funded through Hyundai's already-announced $26 billion U.S. investment commitment running to 2028. Hyundai has targeted a domestic production share of at least 80% of the vehicles it moves in the U.S. market by 2030, compared with roughly 40% in 2024. "For that purpose, we need to add more capacity," Muñoz said.
The $7.6 billion Metaplant, which Hyundai first announced in 2022, is currently turning out the all-electric Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9 models alongside the Kia Sportage hybrid. The facility is designed to build hybrid and all-electric vehicles for the Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia brands. Under the existing 500,000-unit framework, the Georgia campus would employ upward of 8,500 people directly, with a further 6,900 positions supported at supplier facilities nearby.

Joey Logano — winner: "My team did a great job. The pressure was on everybody to make the right calls, to execute the runs, to have a good pit stop there. We were door-to-door pretty much onto pit road. That tested everything we had. I thought we were gonna be in good shape because the run before that we were a lot faster than (Chase Briscoe) right at the end, but we weren't able to be the same amount of good as we wanted to be. This is the first time I've had all of my kids here for a win, so this is a real special one for our family. I'm looking forward to enjoying it. It's a great recovery so far. There's a long way to go in the season, but we can see the front from here. We've still got a couple more to gain some more points to set ourselves up better. I just like doing burnouts. That's really all there is to it. I thought it was a cool opportunity to do a burnout right here. I might get my hand slapped, but it was worth it."
Chase Briscoe — second: "Yeah, I don't know what more I needed. I thought that last run I was a little bit better than him. To get there at the end, prior run to the pit stop, I just lost brakes, got really, really loose. Gave up a three-second advantage. That was ultimately the difference. One bad run. Like I said, that was the difference maker there in the end. It's weird to be running second here. This has been a real struggle to me, this place. I think that's my first ever top 10 here even. To get close, not get it done is so frustrating. I had a really fast Toyota and wasn't able to seal the deal there in the end. The brake deal was interesting. I had great brakes. I felt like a large majority of the race it was to my advantage. I could get into the corner so deep compared to everyone. As I kind of lost that, I lost my advantage. I came not mediocre, but I wasn't quite as strong as what I needed to be to maintain there. Yeah, definitely frustrating from that standpoint, but still huge improvement from what I've been here, for sure. Go on to the next one. Yeah, that's great (to clinch a Chase spot). Obviously that was the goal. You want to be able to race for a championship. A long way to go. We need to get fifth in points. We continued to do what we needed to do from that standpoint, had a great points night. It would have been great to have 15 more points at the end. Yeah, just frustrating to say the least to have one slip away like that at the end."
Austin Cindric — third: "Yeah, that's kind of the name of the game here, especially since they introduced this right side here last year. I thought that was one of our strengths. We could fire off good enough, but I thought I was one of the best cars, especially after about 30 laps. We were a little too good too late in the runs, but, overall, like I said, it was a much needed run for our Ford Mustang. I feel like car performance-wise, for sure.
