Chicago White Sox amateur scouting director Mike Shirley resigned on Saturday in the wake of an internal investigation into verbal harassment allegations, according to The Athletic.
Shirley was reportedly placed on administrative leave after the White Sox received an anonymous tip about his conduct at last month's Area Code Games in Long Beach, California. He was alleged to have made racial and ****** ist comments both about coworkers and in front of coworkers.
The White Sox human resources department reportedly launched an investigation into Shirley, interviewing members of his scouting department. It remains unclear what findings the investigation made.

As the Yankees' pitchers and hitters began their respective pregame meetings on Friday afternoon, the daily seminars opened with a twist.
Shown to them was what Aaron Boone called an "outstanding," three-minute video on the significance of Sept. 11, 2001. With Friday marking the 25th commemoration of the terrorist attacks that targeted the World Trade Center, Brett Weber, the Yankees' senior director of advance scouting and replay guru, put the clip together.
The intention was to give the Yankees a quiet moment to reflect before hosting the Subway Series and beating the crosstown-rival Mets, 6-4.
"This is a day that will be remembered forever," Weber said, "and at the end of the day, that was really the message."
Boone also made sure to talk to his players, who recently attended the National September 11 Memorial & Museum and a handful of local firehouses, about the importance of the day. Among other things, he wanted to make sure that they knew how vital baseball became in the aftermath of the tragedy, as the game helped the city and the country heal.

So often pitchers' duels don't really stand up to the hype, but today's matchup between two former Stetson Hatters – the Mariners' Logan Gilbert and the Rangers' Jacob deGrom – delivered on all that promise and then some. The two pitchers combined for 23 strikeouts, and deGrom carried a perfect game through five innings. In true pitching duel style, it looked like the pitcher who blinked first would come out on the short end, but despite Logan Gilbert making a couple of mistakes, his offense was able to pick him up and deliver him the win. Bragging rights are fun; wins are better. (Gilbert also gets the honor of leading MLB in whiffs today: 24 to deGrom's 20, despite having one fewer strikeout than deGrom.)
This all being said, it was a slog for the Mariners early on. The best at-bat the first time through the order for the Mariners went to – surprise, surprise – Cal Raleigh, who battled deGrom for nine pitches before striking out on deGrom's fastest fastball of the day, a 99.6 mph heater (my campaign for decimal points on the ribbon board in the stadium, which read 100, continues unabated). But the Mariners did fight deGrom, getting themselves into good counts and forcing him into the zone; he finished the second inning at 37 pitches, compared to Gilbert's 24.
But it only took two pitches to offset that work in the third. Nicky Lopez was able to take 96 up and in from Gilbert and find a hole on the infield, and one batter later, with two outs, Joc Pederson jumped a first-pitch slider for a two-run homer. It wasn't a terrible pitch from Gilbert, away from Pederson but probably still too much on the plate; Gilbert had struck Pederson out on the slider in his first at-bat. The slider was particularly nasty today, with an eye-popping 75% whiff rate. He led with the pitch, throwing it 40 times, 12 times to start off an at-bat, which feels like a different sequence than he's used. Gilbert credits Cal for coming up with a good game plan, especially after he felt like he fell into some predictable patterns in his last time out against the A's.
"Like with Joc, we got him with the slider early, so he probably thought we were going to it next time," explained Gilbert. "But then also other guys, we went heavy spin, like with Duran, and then next time went three or four straight fastballs. So I think we did a good job there. They're trying to look at how we're probably scouting them, and then next time through, maybe pitch them different. I think Cal did a good job there."
But deGrom was just as tough on the other side. After striking out eight times in the first three innings, the Mariners hitters decided to try a different strategy the second time through the order. That also didn't work, as they let deGrom cruise through the fourth on nine pitches, keeping his perfect game intact.

Now, Reschke is backing Eberl after Bayern Munich extended his contract through 2029.
"If I look purely at Max's record, then we have a top team that plays exciting football. He's brought in one of the best coaches in the world, someone you simply have to admire, and who is a gift to FC Bayern. Overall, his transfer policy is sound. That there are internal discussions about one or two personnel decisions is just business as usual at a club like FC Bayern. The squad is extremely well-planned and of the highest European standard. There's a lot I really like about it," Reschke told Abendzeitung.

Brian Gutekunst and the Green Bay Packers had a strong scouting presence at the Texas vs. Texas State matchup on Saturday. Green Bay's general manager got a first-hand look at the Longhorns dismantling the Bobcats 59-7.

After weeks focused on his fledgling career, Keon Johnson caught up with family. The Houston Astros had the 18-year-old infielder and recent draft pick and his family attend Sunday's game at Daikin Park, with Johnson arriving from their minor-league facility in West Palm Beach, Fla., late Saturday.
"It was a pretty surreal moment to finally see them again," Johnson said. "Once I got to see them, it was like pretty much all the weight finally got back off my shoulders again."
The Astros selected Johnson in the third round in the July draft, with the No. 93 overall pick, out of First Presbyterian Day School in Macon, Ga. They signed Johnson, who was committed to play at Vanderbilt, for a reported over-slot $2 million bonus. Slot value for the No. 93 pick this year was $846,900.
A shortstop listed at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, Johnson was selected as the Gatorade Georgia high school player of the year as a junior in 2025. Astros director of amateur scouting Cam Pendino deemed him an "unbelievably impressive kid" with an "exciting blend of bat-to-ball and pitch recognition" after the draft.
"We think our hitting instruction can really help unlock the contact quality here," Pendino said in July. "But when you have a guy with a special blend of bat-to-ball and approach - and really specifically bat-to-ball and pitch recognition as an 18-year-old kid with really good actions in the middle of the diamond on the dirt - it's an awesome recipe."

For the third year in a row, Yahoo Sports is simulating a full NBA season in the latest entry in the NBA 2K franchise — NBA 2K27.
Last year's simulation proved to be shockingly accurate. Not only did NBA 2K26 predict the Knicks to win the NBA Finals and Jalen Brunson to be named NBA Finals MVP, it also nailed Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's repeat bid for MVP, Victor Wembanyama's Defensive Player of the Year nod and Cooper Flagg's Rookie of the Year victory. It even had the Wizards as the league's worst team, albeit with half of the wins the real-life version managed to muster.
All things considered, it was safe to say one of the best simulation video game experiences on the market walked the walk.

The New York Giants have changed Dennis Hickey's ******* le and parted ways with vice president of player engagement Usama Young, reports Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post.
Hickey spent the past four seasons as ******* istant director of player personnel after joining the club in 2022. He is now listed as senior personnel executive. Dunleavy notes that the new role keeps Hickey out of the facility more on a day-to-day basis, though the veteran evaluator was spotted at training camp last week.
Hickey spent much of last season on the road scouting college games and prospects, consistent with the unofficial college-scouting leadership duties he carried after the Giants dismissed director of college scouting Chris Pettit in 2022.
That arrangement shifted in May, when New York hired former Houston Texans co-director of college scouting John Ritcher as director of college scouting. Ritcher is expected to take on many of the day-to-day responsibilities Hickey previously handled.

The Angels have seen sweeping changes to the organization over the last four months. A new team president, a new interim general manager, a new draft strategy, a change in approach at the trade deadline and other coaching and scouting department changes have already given fans hope for a better tomorrow.
But on Tuesday morning, the news that a large portion of Angels fans have been impatiently waiting for finally dropped.

Notre Dame released its depth chart for this weekend's season opener against the Wisconsin Badgers at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis. But while the Fighting Irish depth chart is out there, the Badgers declined to post one this week.
Apparently, the sports information department at Wisconsin didn't want to put out a depth chart for the season's first game since the Badgers base their depth chart off of the previous game, and there obviously is no previous game to work with for this season.
This doesn't feel like any kind of gamesmanship or subterfuge -- it's the Badgers' sports info department that made the choice, not the coaches. Not to mention that Notre Dame should already have a sense of Wisconsin's depth chart via scouting. Apparently, the sports information department at Wisconsin didn't want to put out a depth chart for the season's first game since the Badgers base their depth chart off of the previous game, and there obviously is no previous game to work with for this season.
This doesn't feel like any kind of gamesmanship or subterfuge -- it's the Badgers' sports info department that made the choice, not the coaches. Not to mention that Notre Dame should already have a sense of Wisconsin's depth chart via scouting. Arizona women's basketball's 2027 class will have plenty of size. The Wildcats received a commitment from 6-foot-2 Canadian forward Ashley Vande Ven on Sunday. The four-star player joins 6-foot wing Brieana Brown and 6-foot-4 power forward Celsy Colombo in Becky Burke's next recruiting class.
Vande Ven is ranked No. 82 in the ESPN SC Next 100. She has a scouting grade of 92 from the service.

Former St. John's forward Bryce Hopkins, the 49th overall pick, signed a two-way contract with the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday, according to the NBA's official transaction log.
Hopkins was a second-team All-Big East selection last season, averaging 13.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.9 **** ists and 1.1 steals while shooting 36.3% from 3-point range. He ranked fifth in the conference in free throws (127) and fifth in win shares (4.8).

The Chicago Bears have been involved in trade discussions surrounding defensive tackle, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported on Tuesday. Dexter, who turns 25 in October, is currently in the final year of his rookie contract.
Schultz previously reported in February that teams were calling on Dexter's availability around the time of the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine. Now, Schultz is claiming that there are "multiple scenarios where a deal could get done".
Dexter was a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft coming out of Florida. He is coming off a 2025 campaign in which he tallied 44 tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss, and a career-high 6.0 sacks. He placed No. 32 among 107 qualified defensive tackles in PFN DT Impact Scoring, a ranking which indicates he's an average starting defensive tackle. That said, his pass-rushing production and youth gives him considerable upside on the open market.
Should the Bears actually trade Dexter, they would free up over $1.6 million in 2026 cap **** e. The reason to trade Dexter wouldn't be highlighted by the immediate cap relief, but rather, the draft capital Chicago could obtain in a deal. If the team realizes they likely won't extend him at the price he and his agency are asking for, it could make sense in the long run to get a draft pick for him, rather than let him walk in free agency for nothing.
Of course, the Bears' defensive line has been the subject of much discussion leading up to the 2026-27 NFL season. Their four-man front consistently struggled to generate pressure in the pass rush and had issues in run support, and they didn't do much to address the need this offseason. HOUSTON (AP) — General manager Dana Brown and the Houston Astros have mutually agreed to part ways, the team announced Monday, when it was tied for first place in its division.
Brown's contract was set to expire at the end of the season. Senior adviser Jeff Bagwell and ***** istant general managers Charles Cook, Gavin ***** ey and Connor Huff will take over Brown's responsibilities while team owner Jim Crane will oversee baseball operations during the transition.
The move comes after the Astros went 3-6 on a homestand that ended Sunday to fall into a tie with the Texas Rangers for the AL West lead.
Brown had been the team's general manager since January 2023.
"Over the past four seasons, Dana has helped our organization win two division ***** les and has led our baseball front office through key scouting, draft and development efforts," Crane said in a statement. Cam Ward entered the NFL with the arm talent and improvisational ability that made comparisons with Patrick Mahomes easy to understand. Jason Whitlock thinks those comparisons may now be doing the Tennessee ****** ans quarterback more harm than good.
Whitlock argued that Ward's best path in Year 2 is not chasing spectacular off-script plays. Instead, he believes the 2025 No. 1 overall pick needs to play more like Brock Purdy, take easier throws, and get more comfortable operating within structure.
"If Cam Ward is going to make it in the NFL, he will have to stop trying to be Patrick Mahomes and adopt more of Brock Purdy's game instead," Whitlockwrote on X.
During the accompanying discussion, Whitlock agreed with former ****** ans scouting director Blake Beddingfield's recent argument that Tennessee needs Ward to become more of a game manager.

In 2023, the Astros, fresh off a World Series ******* le, brought in a new general manager in Dana Brown. Brown was lauded for his scouting acumen given his background as an amateur scout and his role in helping build a strong organization in Atlanta.
With the 2026 MLB Draft now complete, we have four draft classes to evaluate what Brown and company have been able to do. Let's take a look at those classes, along with the international signings and trades, and see how the Astros' farm system compares to where it was when Brown took over in 2023.
Going into the 2023 season, the Astros had a decent farm system with two Top 100 prospects in Hunter Brown and Yainer Diaz, according to Baseball America. Diaz, however, was not included on MLB Pipeline's Top 100 list.
In the first round of the 2023 MLB Draft, the Astros held the 28th pick and selected shortstop Brice Matthews out of Nebraska. Matthews eventually broke into Pipeline's Top 100 in July 2025, ranking No. 98. Their second-round pick, Alonzo Tredwell, had a breakout 2025 season but has only pitched one in 2026.

The Los Angeles Rams continue to earn high praise from national ******* ysts, this time securing the No. 5 spot in ESPN's Future Power Rankings that predicts how teams will look in the not-too-distant future.
ESPN's methodology evaluates how well all 32 NFL franchises are set up for sustained success over a three-year window spanning the 2027 through 2029 seasons. An expert panel consisting of ******* ysts Louis Riddick, Aaron Schatz, Ben Solak and Seth Walder rated each team's quarterback situation, non-QB roster makeup, front office, and coaching staff on a 1–100 scale. Those grades were then calculated into a weighted overall score: roster makeup (30%), coaching staff (25%), front office (25%), and quarterback (20%).
The Rams earned an overall score of 85.3, placing them firmly in the elite tier of NFL organizations projected for long-term competitiveness. Los Angeles finished behind the Seattle Seahawks (88.7), Philadelphia Eagles (88.1), Detroit Lions (86.2), and Denver Broncos (85.6).
A major catalyst behind the high rating is head coach Sean McVay's offensive innovation alongside general manager Les Snead's scouting. Solak noted that the Rams are in one of the more unique positions because of Matthew Stafford, but still have the makings of a long-term elite team.
The Rams are tricky to rank because we don't know for certain whether coach Sean McVay, who has contemplated retirement, will stay in Los Angeles after quarterback Matthew Stafford hangs up the pads. The 2029 class begin their sophomore seasons on the gridiron this month, and as some prospects continue to stake their claims for stars, Rivals has now released its initial top 100 rankings for the cycle. This follows the release of Rivals' 2029 watchlist back in June.
These prospects still have three full seasons of high school football left, but many have flashed early and are already on Rivals' radar. The rankings will eventually expand to a full Rivals300 after the upcoming season.

The Dallas Cowboys were officially back on the field for the first time in 2026 on Saturday, and so too were the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. There were certainly some moments that reminded us all this is just the first appetizer towards the main course of week one regular season football.
The Cowboys won this appetizer of a game 17-7, falling behind 7-0 after the Seahawks went down the field with a 13-play scoring drive that proved to be their biggest offensive highlight of the night. The Cowboys were the only team to score the rest of the game, with 14 of these points coming on insane highlight reel catches for touchdowns by UDFA wide receiver Camden Brown, one from Sam Howell and one from Joe Milton.

When the Dallas Cowboys took the field against the Seattle Seahawks, it would have been hard to imagine Camden Brown leading the team in receiving yards and touchdowns. With veterans like Jonathan Mingo and Marquez Valdes-Scantling on the roster and ahead of him on the depth chart, it was a pleasant surprise. The Cowboys' coaching staff had seen Brown excel during OTAs and training camp, but this was their first chance to see him produce in live game action, and he didn't disappoint.
Brown was Saturday night's player of the game for Dallas, not only for scoring both Cowboys' touchdowns, but for everything else he did on the field as well. His first reception came at the end of the first half, catching a 39-yard bomb off the arm of Sam Howell as part of a two-minute drill, forcing his way to the ball through an interfering defender.
Then, after a quarterback change to Joe Milton at halftime, Brown caught his next two passes. Dallas found themselves behind the sticks thanks to back-to-back penalties on OL Marcus Johnson. The 2nd-and-15 didn't deter, as Milton found Brown for a 21-yard completion. Milton finished his impressive drive with a two-yard toss that Brown reached out and snagged with one hand, his left hand, behind the DB.
He kept the covering cornerbacks on their heels and was able to create separation, ending the game by catching all three of his targets for 62 yards and the two scores.
