Philadelphia Eagles WR DeVonta Smith caught seven of 14 targets for 75 yards and a touchdown in a Week 6 loss to the Carolina Panthers.
SOURCE: USA TODAY
Why It Matters: Many ******* ysts predicted Smith to have a breakout season in 2026, but a rash of injuries - including one to Smith himself - has kept that from happening so far. The sixth-year veteran set a career high in targets in this one after missing the last two weeks with a hamstring injury. It might be a bit of a ******* py road the rest of the way - certainly for as long as Tanner McKee is his quarterback - but volume should not be an issue for him. (He's averaging 10.3 targets per game in four games this season.) He could catch a bit of a break in Week 7 as the struggling Cowboys pay a visit to Philly on Monday night. Smith could push for WR1 production in that one, although he is a safer WR2 bet.

Alexander Skarsgård attended the Wicker screening during the 2026 BFI London Film Festival this evening, delivering another red carpet look that won't be forgotten anytime soon.

You won't have forgotten the Saint Laurent thigh-wader boots he wore at Cannes, and I doubt you'll forget your first sight of these Saint Laurent PVC shoes either. We've seen all manner of unusual footwear this year, including Margaret Qualley's Chanel soleless shoes, but Alexander continues to find new ways to surprise us.

If you thought he was going to return to safer style choices after his Pillion press tour, think again. He's clearly having far too much fun with fashion, and I love this for him.

Coca-Cola ($KO) beats PepsiCo ($PEP) for generational portfolios with 63 consecutive dividend increases, wider margins, and 182% 10-year share gains versus 60%.
PepsiCo's free cash flow barely covers its 4.44% dividend yield, while Coca-Cola's expected $12.4B free cash flow dwarfs its $8.8B dividend payout.
A pending IRS appeals ruling and a premium P/E of 28 are the two risks that could crack Coca-Cola's otherwise dominant long-term case.

The 10-year Treasury yield recently touched its highest level in roughly two decades, north of 5.3%, per CNBC.
When the 10-year Treasury yield rises, stocks can become less attractive because investors can earn higher yields on safer bonds, and higher borrowing costs can weigh on companies and their growth. At the same time, older bonds with lower interest rates lose market value compared with newer, higher-yielding bonds.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
In short, this yield is the interest rate the U.S. government pays to borrow for 10 years and is a key benchmark for global borrowing costs and economic outlook.
Here's a difference that matters. A Treasury note pays you the same coupon in year 10 that it pays you in year one. A growing dividend you can find in a stock doesn't sit still. It compounds. Buy the right business today, and the income it hands you a decade from now can be meaningfully larger than what it pays this year, on top of whatever the stock itself is worth by then.

A portion of a major California highway has been renamed after Hollywood icon James Dean 71 years after he died in a fiery crash on the road while driving to a race in Salinas.
Caltrans officials were joined by representatives of the late star in the town of Cholame on Wednesday where a segment of Highway 46—which connects the coast with the Central Valley—officially became the James Dean Memorial Highway.
"Yesterday's ceremony marked 71 years since Dean's tragic crash, and local leaders, CHP, and community advocates came together with one message: safer roads save lives," the announcement read, referring to the designation near the site of Dean's fatal 1955 crash.

Like every job in Hollywood, managers have grappled with plenty of change in their work in the last decade. Luckily for Range Media Partners' Cora Olson and Michael Diamond, they have each other.
The duo has worked as a unit for 10 years, since being brought together at Mgmt Entertainment and eventually grew to run the lit division. They joined Range as partners in 2024 with a desire to evolve alongside the modern talent management firm, founded during the pandemic by a collective of former CAA, UTA and WME agents hoping to shake things up in the entertainment marketplace. The management company operates its talent representation business alongside an in-house production studio, allowing the operation to finance, develop and build equity in intellectual property.
All those contributing factors can help when putting together the right package to get a film or TV project off the ground in today's precarious Hollywood model — one with fewer greenlit projects and a reliance on safer bets from major distributors. But Olson and Diamond, who represent Hollywood big shots like "Schitt's Creek" Emmy winner Dan Levy, actress-producer-director Kyra Sedgwick and "Pig" filmmaker Michael Sarnoski, counter the ****** umption that original ideas are a tougher sell.
It just takes more work to get there.
"You're not just marrying this actor with this part, or this writer with this ****** ignment. It's not as much mix-and-match as it used to be, because there isn't that same amount of volume," Olson told Office With a View. "If you look at the shows and movies that are breaking through right now, it's those really fresh points of view that seem to resonate with audiences."

The transition toward renewable energy is creating massive opportunities for infrastructure providers. Eos Energy Enterprises (NASDAQ:EOSE) and GE Vernova (NYSE:GEV) represent two distinct ways to play this trend in 2026.
Eos focuses on specialized zinc-based batteries for long-duration energy storage. GE Vernova is a diversified giant that services a massive portion of the world's electricity grid. Comparing these two helps clarify whether you prefer a high-growth disruptor or an established power leader.
Eos Energy Enterprises produces aqueous zinc batteries designed as a safer, scalable alternative to lithium-ion. It operates primarily within the industrial stocks **** e, targeting utilities and commercial developers. Customer concentration like this adds a layer of risk to the business, as two clients accounted for approximately 70% of total revenue in 2025.
In FY 2025, revenue reached approximately $114.2 million. This represents growth of nearly 631.8% compared to the prior fiscal year. The company reported a pre-tax net loss of roughly $969.6 million, resulting in a negative net margin of approximately 849.1%.
As of its December 2025 balance sheet, the company had a debt-to-equity ratio of -1.0x. This value indicates that total liabilities exceed shareholder equity. The current ratio, which measures the ability to cover short term obligations with short term **** ets, was approximately 4.9x, while free cash flow was nearly negative $265.0 million.

Lowe's edges out Home Depot as the safer income hold, with a 6.93% FCF yield covering its 2.39% dividend yield by a far wider margin.
Home Depot's Pro contractor pivot drove 1.7% comp sales growth versus Lowe's 0.2%, but its free cash flow still shrank 22% and its payout ratio sits higher.
Lowe's steady raises from $1.05 to $1.25 quarterly signal a longer dividend growth runway than Home Depot's token 1.3% ***** p to $2.33.

For an income investor weighing Home Depot (NYSE:HD) against Lowe's (NYSE:LOW), the real question is which dividend holds up better when the housing market stays frozen. Existing home sales sit at 3.98M annualized, the lowest reading in the trailing twelve-month history and inside what the series classifies as the soft range ***** ociated with high mortgage rates. Home Depot's CFO said housing turnover has "never been lower as a percentage of the housing stock". When people stop moving, they stop renovating. That is the identical headwind facing both payouts, and it sharpens the question of which one is actually safer.

The North Carolina Tar Heels completed their home opener by doing exactly what they needed to do: they easily beat an inferior opponent to improve their record to 2-0. Credit to ETSU for bring a lot of energy to the game, but ultimately they were outmatched from start to finish.
The first quarter opened up with the Tar Heels going three and out thanks to two dropped passes thrown by Billy Edwards, Jr. The Heels were quickly able to make up for it by grabbing an interception thrown by ETSU quarterback, Mason Mims, which led to UNC immediately marching down the field for a touchdown. Jelani Thurman was a bit part of the drive's success, and ultimately caught a 24-yard pass to get into the end zone.
On the Buccaneers' next drive, they were able to chip away at UNC's defense to get to mid-field, but ultimately they weren't able to do enough to finish the drive. They punted and managed to back UNC up to their own end zone, but the quarter finished with UNC moving the ball into safer territory. When the second quarter opened, the Heels proceeded to move the ball down the field, and Edwards was able to find Benjamin Hall for a 26-yard touchdown.
The Buccaneers continued to chip away at UNC's defense, but they continually shot themselves in the foot. A touchdown was negated by a holding call, there was a face mask call after that, and then when they were pushed all the way back to 3rd and 28, the Heels stood tall and were able to get the ball back. They were able to complete another touchdown drive to increase their lead to 21-0 before halftime.
The second half opened with ETSU immediately coughing up the football, which led to a touchdown scored by Demon June. The Buccaneers were without answers from there — despite continuing to gain yards, their inability to finish drives remained constant, and the Heels were able to go up 35-0 before a game delay due to lightning in the area.

The claim comes from a slide that the company put in front of investors. It puts Strategy's short-term funding gap at zero and JPMorgan's at negative $1.2 trillion. Strategy wrote those definitions itself.

All summer, Stetson Bennett and Ty Simpson competed to be Matthew Stafford's backup under center. Bennett had the lead going into training camp and after playing well in practice and the preseason, he never let that lead go.
Sean McVay opted not to name a winner in that camp battle but on Thursday night, he was forced to make a decision. The Rams chose Bennett as their No. 2 quarterback, making Simpson a healthy scratch for the first game of the season.
McVay referred to Bennett and Simpson as 2A and 2B on the depth chart, despite listing Bennett as the No. 2 and Bennett third. It's no surprise that the Rams are going with Bennett behind Stafford, given his experience; this is his fourth year in the system.
Simpson played well in the preseason and training camp, making a strong case to win the backup job. However, Bennett is the safer choice because of how well he knows the offense. In the event that Stafford goes down, the Rams can feel confident that he'll operate the scheme and get the ball out on time to the proper receiver.
The Rams hope Bennett never has to see the field this season because if he does, it means Stafford got hurt. But for the time being, he's the No. 2 until Simpson overtakes him or something changes in the minds of the coaches.

Kyle Kirkwood closed out his 2026 IndyCar Series campaign on a high note, driving from sixth on the grid to a runner-up finish behind Team Penske's Scott McLaughlin in the season finale at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
The strong drive cemented a career-best second-place finish in the championship standings for the 27-year-old Florida native.
Kirkwood, driving the #27 Andretti Global Honda, concluded the 18-race season with 545 points, placing 86 points behind champion Alex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing. Over the course of the year, Kirkwood led Andretti Global's **** le challenge, recording two wins, six podiums, 10 top-fives, 15 top-10s, and one pole position.
Reflecting on the finale, Kirkwood acknowledged that points strategy dictated his approach late in the race.
"Yeah, it was," Kirkwood said regarding securing second in the championship. "Yeah, we played it a little bit safer than I might have hoped for the last race of the season, but we had to for the championship. We made all the decisions based on that. Probably could have had a go at Scottie (Scott McLaughlin) at the end on the first few laps on reds. The number one goal was to make the tires last. That's what we did. Came home with a second, which is something to be proud of."

PG&E Corp (NYSE:PCG) shares fell more than 19% after California lawmakers advanced wildfire legislation that stopped short of the liability protections utility investors had been seeking.
The amended Senate Bill 492 excludes a proposal from Governor Gavin Newsom that would have blocked insurance companies from suing utilities over wildfire-related claims, raising fresh concerns about Pacific Gas and Electric Company's exposure to future disasters.
PG&E said the legislation, amended by the California Legislature, would make some progress on wildfire risk reduction and recovery but would not provide the sustainable solution the state needs.
"Specifically, the bill does not adequately address the financing risks created by California's current wildfire liability framework," the company said in a statement. "As a result, it falls short of creating the long-term durability needed to attract affordable investment to support a safer, more reliable energy system and help keep costs down for customers."
The company pointed to an April report from the California Earthquake Authority, which found that existing funding mechanisms are not sufficient. PG&E said SB 492 does not adequately address those concerns.

Switzerland wants UBS to be safer after Credit Suisse blew up. UBS says too much safety could make it less competitive. Now lawmakers are trying to mix a regulatory **** tail that protects taxpayers without turning the country's last megabank into a padded cell with a banking license.
Swiss lawmakers are expected to send a softened banking reform proposal to the upper house of parliament, as the country tries to settle one of the biggest questions left by the Credit Suisse collapse: how much capital should UBS be forced to hold?
The Swiss government originally wanted UBS to hold about $20 billion in additional Common Equity Tier 1 capital. CET1 is the hard stuff: high-quality equity capital that absorbs losses first and gives regulators comfort when a bank gets into trouble.
The proposed requirement followed UBS's emergency takeover of Credit Suisse in 2023. That deal stopped one crisis, but created another problem. Switzerland now has one giant globally important bank, and regulators want to make sure taxpayers are not dragged back into another rescue.

Jonathan ******* inga picked the Minnesota Timberwolves over the Los Angeles Lakers, a move that stunned fans expecting a bigger paycheck. The 23-year-old forward signed a two-year, $12.4 million deal that includes a player option for the 2027-28 season. This structure lets him test free agency again next summer when more teams will have cash to spend.
His agent, Aaron Turner, told The Athletic that defense was the main reason for the switch. Turner said, "Ant was super active in the recruitment of him," referring to Anthony Edwards' role in the process. Edwards focused his message on the team's defensive identity rather than just offense.
Turner explained that while everyone else looked at the offensive side of the ball, ******* inga and his team looked at the defensive end. "He made this decision because of the defensive versatility of this team," Turner stated. The Lakers offered a sign-and-trade that would have locked ******* inga into a three-year deal worth $12 million a year. Minnesota offered a shorter path to a massive payday later. ******* inga wants to prove he can guard multiple positions before signing a long-term contract in 2027. The Timberwolves need that specific skill set to win now, and ******* inga sees a clear role where he can shine.
This choice follows a pattern of ******* inga turning down safer options to bet on his future value. Before leaving the Golden State Warriors, he declined a three-year, $75 million extension. According to reports, prioritizing finances over the game doesn't sustain the ability to generate increasing revenue. The Warriors didn't offer a clear starting role, so ******* inga felt he couldn't bet on himself there. He took the shortest option available, which eventually led to his trade to the Atlanta Hawks and then to Minnesota.
The Hawks declined his $24.3 million team option, making him an unrestricted free agent. Now, he faces a new challenge in Minnesota alongside stars like Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels. This mindset fits a team that prioritizes winning over individual numbers. ******* inga knows he must play well to maximize his next contract, and the Timberwolves provide the right system to show off his two-way potential.

Though rare, financial institutions do fail from time to time. In 2023, for example, banking giants Citizens Bank, Signature Bank, and Silicon Valley Bank all collapsed.
But what about credit unions? Though they're often considered "safer" than banks, credit unions can also fail — though the financial fallout is typically mild by comparison.
So far, in 2026, five banks have failed. In the same time period, three credit unions have failed. Let's take a closer look at why a credit union might fail, and what happens next.

There's a great deal to like about quantum firm D-Wave (QBTS), including its promising technologies, its rapidly growing bookings and backlog, the investment that it received from the U.S. government, and its impressive list of customers.
However, Quantinuum (QNT), whose IPO was launched by majority owner Honeywell (HON), also has all of these attributes. However, its revenue, backlog, and cash reserves are meaningfully larger than those of D-Wave. Due to these points, I view QNT stock as the better, safer pick for investors for now.

On Wednesday, the NFL and the NFL Players **** ociation [NFLPA] announced that the sides have reached an agreement on an updated "on-field accountability system," which was approved by a vote of the board of Player Representatives on Tuesday, and communicated to the players on Thursday.
The stated goal of these changes is to, according to a joint statement from the league and the NFLPA, "make the game safer by focusing discipline on the techniques most likely to result in player injury rather than players who make isolated mistakes during competition." As a result, five penalties will see a greater emphasis this season:

The NFL and NFLPA announced on Wednesday that they had reached an agreement on a new system of fines and suspensions for penalties that violate health and safety rules.
Both sides said in a joint statement that they have worked over the years on ways to "make the game safer by focusing discipline on the techniques most likely to result in player injury rather than players who make isolated mistakes during competition."
As such, they are placing greater sanctions on five player health and safety rule violations. The five categories are:

Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Nearly 25% of all ex-NFL players who died between 2016 and 2021 had chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE, according to a study published Tuesday.
The study was published in the British Medical Journal by researchers from Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston University and other institutions.
Researchers worked to determine the range of possible prevalence of the degenerative brain disease at death among former NFL players and examine the link between CTE severity and risk of dementia.
More than 90% of the samples with stage IV CTE, the most advanced form of the disease, also were diagnosed with dementia.
"The NFL continuously strives to make the game of football safer, including by implementing strategies to reduce concussions and head impacts," the league said in a statement.

Manchester City open their Premier League season at home to Bournemouth with one immediate problem, Jeremy Doku is out. The Belgian went off at half-time in the Community Shield and the expectation is that a calf injury will rule him out for several weeks. For Enzo Maresca, that means changes straight away.
The basic shape stays the same. The details change. Erling Haaland leads the line, as expected, but the three behind him now need reworking. Phil Foden looks set to move from the No10 role to the right, Antoine **** yo shifts over to the left, and Rayan Cherki gets the central attacking berth.
Photo IMAGO
Doku gives City directness, pace and a one v one threat few can match. Without him, the attack becomes more technical and more dependent on combinations. That may suit Cherki, who is at his best receiving between the lines, and it gives Foden a familiar wide starting point before drifting infield.
Jack Grealish is the wildcard. He did well after replacing Doku last time out, but his position remains uncertain while questions over his future continue. He may be involved, he may not. Right now, the safer call is caution.

Ukraine is buying a homegrown glide bomb that could help its pilots strike Russian forces from a safer distance while relying less on weapons supplied by the U.S. and Europe.
The new weapon is called the Vyrivniuvach, or "Equalizer." It was developed by Ukrainian company DG Industry with support from Brave1, a government-backed defense technology group.
A Ukrainian military official told Ukrinform that the bomb has finished testing and is now being bought for the armed forces. Fox News Digital has reached out to Ukraine's Ministry of Defense for more details.
Until now, Ukraine's warplanes have relied heavily on U.S.-supplied JDAM-ER bomb kits and Small Diameter Bombs, as well as French-made Hammer bombs, for precision strikes from safer distances. The Equalizer could give Kyiv more control over its own supply of guided bombs as foreign military aid remains uncertain.

The appeal of real estate investment trusts (REITs) is that you can own a basket of income-generating opportunities with a single investment. They typically yield more than money market funds or short-term CDs, but they also carry price volatility risk. Some REITs are understandably riskier than others, but on the safer side of the spectrum, you have Realty Income (NYSE: O).
Realty Income is one of the country's largest REITs. It's one of the few out there that cut monthly dividend checks, a plus for retirees or anyone relying on regular income from their investments. The most noteworthy thing about Realty Income is that it recently increased its distributions, marking 115 consecutive quarters of increases. Yes, that is not a typo.
Continue »
Inflation and rising rates are often risks for many REITs, but that's where Realty Income's structure shines. Its portfolio of more than 15,588 properties is offered as triple net leases. The tenants cover property taxes, insurance, and routine maintenance expenses. This is on top of the gradually rising base rent payments.
It also helps that its properties are heavily weighted to serve all-weather industries. It may have a 78% concentration in retail properties, but its two largest segments -- supermarkets and convenience stores (at 20.5% of the portfolio) -- will draw shoppers in most economic and inflationary climates.

Picking a name for a new professional sports team is tricky. You want to do something creative, but also tie into the fabric of the city. Cleveland's new WNBA team tried to do that when they unveiled their name as the Sirens. And according to those we surveyed, they were successful.
Earlier this week, we asked people to grade the name of the Sirens. Almost two-thirds of those surveyed gave the new team name either an "A" or "B" grade, with 39% giving it an "A."
It's worth pointing out that 21% gave the Sirens name a "D" or an "F" grade.
Doing something new and creative is a risk. Resurrecting a name like the Rockers or one that ties closely into the Cleveland Cavaliers would've been safer. It shouldn't come as a surprise that there were a number of people who didn't like the bold choice.
Overall, it's hard to criticize the Cleveland WNBA team for their brand rollout. They've done an excellent job of messaging their position and explaining why they went in this direction. They've made it clear that they want to be their own team, separate from the Cavs. And they've done that in an interesting and creative way.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — As Afghanistan's Taliban rulers mark five years since sweeping back to power, some Kabul residents say they feel safer after decades of conflict and upheaval but stress the leaders should now focus on creating jobs and expanding access to schools in the country where girls above the age of 12 are banned from education.
The Taliban regained control of Afghanistan on Aug. 15, 2021, after it launched an offensive as the U.S. and other NATO troops withdrew from the country after two decades of war. The withdrawal led to chaotic scenes at and around Kabul's airport with thousands wanting to leave.
"Thank God, the past five years have passed in safety," said Mohammad Qasim, 30, reflecting on the anniversary that comes against a backdrop of economic hardship in a conflict-stricken country. "Our wish and hope from the government is to create job opportunities for the youth."
"We, along with the entire nation, call upon the government to create employment opportunities for the youth and to encourage them to pursue education," he added.
Before the takeover, the Taliban stated that, upon **** uming power, it would allow women access to education, employment and public participation, albeit in accordance with its interpretation of Islamic principles.

Britain's Raven Chapman could travel back to the UK next week after undergoing a second successful surgery on a brain bleed she suffered following a sparring session in Denmark.
The 32-year-old former world ***** le challenger collapsed after training on 24 July and was taken by helicopter to hospital, where she was diagnosed with a brain haematoma and cerebral oedema.
After undergoing emergency surgery and being placed in a medically induced coma, Chapman's management company, Vote Boxing, said she has had another successful procedure.
"This marks another important step in her recovery while also making it safer for her to travel back to the UK," a statement said.
"If everything continues to progress as hoped, we are aiming for Raven to fly home sometime next week, where she can continue her recovery surrounded by her family and loved ones.

The NFL adding an 18th game to the schedule seems inevitable, but longtime NFL reporter Peter King isn't buying the league's argument for it whatsoever.
In an appearance on The MMQB NFL Podcast this week, King laid out why he believes the plan runs in direct contrast to the NFL's efforts to make the game safer and more sustainable for players' long-term health.
"The NFL is ******* -bent on playing an 18th game, and then they say, 'Well we're taking away one of the preseason games,'" King said. "That's the most disingenuous pile of ******* I've ever heard in my life. And everybody knows it. Everybody knows it. The fans, the commissioner, the owners, they all know it."
It turns out King has done the math. The longtime Sports Illustrated reporter explained that today's NFL starters are on the field for "hundreds" more snaps per season than they were during the career of Mike Webster, the first prominent case study for CTE in the sport. The level of stress put on players' bodies and brains is, as a result, significantly more intense.
"One of the reasons I hate the concept of the 18th game is that … you've gotta read what I (have written) about (Kansas City offensive lineman) Creed Humphrey versus Mike Webster," King said.

Over the past few years, Wall Street has fallen back in love with nuclear power. And it's easy to see why.
AI is driving a surge in electricity demand, prompting governments to extend the lives of existing reactors and encouraging big tech to secure nuclear power for data centers. As a result, we've seen a run-up on uranium miners, reactor developers, and nuclear fuel companies.
Continue »
That said, you don't have to pile into the same nuclear stocks as everyone else to benefit from this trend. In fact, I would even argue there's a much easier, safer way to profit from the continued rise in electricity demand while still getting exposure to the nuclear energy renaissance.
Hyperscale data centers can require hundreds of megawatts of electricity, with some campuses eventually consuming more than 1 gigawatt on their own. To put that in perspective, that's enough to power roughly 750,000 U.S. homes, or every single home in the state of Maine.
