PG&E Corp (NYSE:PCG) shares fell more than 19% after California lawmakers advanced wildfire legislation that stopped short of the liability protections utility investors had been seeking.
The amended Senate Bill 492 excludes a proposal from Governor Gavin Newsom that would have blocked insurance companies from suing utilities over wildfire-related claims, raising fresh concerns about Pacific Gas and Electric Company's exposure to future disasters.
PG&E said the legislation, amended by the California Legislature, would make some progress on wildfire risk reduction and recovery but would not provide the sustainable solution the state needs.
"Specifically, the bill does not adequately address the financing risks created by California's current wildfire liability framework," the company said in a statement. "As a result, it falls short of creating the long-term durability needed to attract affordable investment to support a safer, more reliable energy system and help keep costs down for customers."
The company pointed to an April report from the California Earthquake Authority, which found that existing funding mechanisms are not sufficient. PG&E said SB 492 does not adequately address those concerns.

Federal Reserve governor Michael Barr said Tuesday that if inflation doesn't come down adequately, the central bank should raise interest rates.
Ahead of the Fed policy meeting in just over two weeks, Barr said the outlook for inflation and the economy will top the agenda.
"If trends in the data give me some confidence that inflation is moderating on a path to 2%, then I think we can take a bit more time to ***** s our policy stance," Barr said, according to prepared remarks. "However, if inflation appears not to be moderating sufficiently, then I think we should act decisively to raise rates."
The Fed will get two more readings on consumer and wholesale inflation next week before the meeting on Sept. 16. Recent inflation data has been mixed, with back-to-back cooler reports on the Consumer Price Index for June and July and one stickier report on the Fed's preferred inflation gauge, the Personal Consumption Expenditures index.
Still, Barr said inflation remains too high, pointing to a series of shocks — from tariffs to the conflict in the Middle East to the rapid AI build-out — that "pushed us off course."

H.B. Fuller Co. (NYSE:FUL) shares were unchanged in Monday's pre-market trading after the company's board rejected an unsolicited offer from Ancora Holdings Group worth up to $1.2 billion for its Building Adhesive Solutions business, according to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter.
The board determined that Ancora's proposal materially undervalued the division and failed to adequately reflect its future growth prospects, the people said.
Directors also reportedly concluded that the bid did not recognise the strategic importance of Building Adhesive Solutions within H.B. Fuller's wider adhesives portfolio and lacked sufficient information from Ancora to constitute an actionable proposal.
Ancora responded strongly to the board's decision, arguing that H.B. Fuller dismissed its proposal without engaging with the investment firm.
An Ancora spokesperson told Bloomberg that rejecting the offer without discussions was "irrational" and reinforced the CEO and board's "proclivity for entrenchment."

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn brought good injury news on Sunday, along with one concern.
The good news was that Marcus Mariota's injury was not serious. Quinn also brought good news on Sunday that starting TE John Bates will return to practice on Tuesday, as will converted guard-to-center Nick Allegretti, who the Commanders have hoped can step in and adequately replace 2024 and 2025 starter Tyler Biadasz.
Then there was the Trey Amos update. Amos, a rookie second-round draft selection (61) in 2025, played ten games for Washington last season before going down with a broken fibula. In that game against the Detroit Lions, Amos fractured a fibula and missed the rest of the season.
Amos spent the start of this 2026 training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list recovering from some sort of soft tissue injury, as Quinn had stated to the media. August 7, Amos passed his Commanders' physical and was activated off the PUP list to return to practice. On August 8, Amos returned and promptly injured his ankle badly enough that he missed all of the past week.
"He is dealing with soreness (ankle)...he is not there yet," expressed Quinn. "You'll see him out doing stuff to the side, working into that spot. But he won't be able to fully participate this week."

Indiana Fever All-Star guard Caitlin Clark publicly backed Stephanie White after Indiana's second-year head coach was booed on the team's home court at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Tuesday, Aug. 11.

"It's professional sports, people are going to boo, but at the end of the day... we're going to ride for her and we're always going to have her back and that's never going to tear our locker room apart."
Clark added, "I just love her and I feel for her because I know it can be a lot at times and she does a great job a lot of times blocking it out, but there's other moments where it can get under your skin and that's just being human and that's just life."

Broncos coach Sean Payton wants to see what he can do to keep his team healthier.
Payton said at training camp on Monday that he's concerned about the number of soft-tissue injuries his team has suffered so far in camp.
"We've got to get a handle on some of the soft-tissues," Payton said, via the Denver Post. "We've had a couple either strains, hamstring or groins. We continue to fight through that."
Payton said he doesn't want to blame the heat but does want to look at how the team can make sure the players are adequately taken care of, and taking care of themselves, before and during practice.
"You always try to look at your pre-practice routine," Payton said. "Your hydration, obviously. And it's incumbent on the player. It's hard for anyone to know your soft tissue. I'm always looking at maybe what we did leading up to the period when a guy had a strain."

Brenda ******* son is facing another legal challenge after a man asked a court for a civil harassment restraining order against the former soap opera actress. The request comes after ******* son's arrest for misdemeanor battery in July. At this point, the judge did not approve the temporary request, court records indicate. A hearing will now determine whether the order should move forward.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Richard Chamberlin filed a request for a civil harassment restraining order against ******* son on Monday. Chamberlin alleges ******* son hit his daughter, Isabella, in the face and chest during a July 8 incident. He also says she ******* ped Isabella with trash bags, made threats, and verbally harassed several people. Those allegations have not been proven in court.
In the filing, Chamberlin claims to be a property maintenance worker and a renter in the building where ******* son lives. He requested that the court extend the protection to him, Isabella, and another tenant. Chamberlin also says that ******* son has stalked and verbally harassed them for the last two months. He requested that ******* son remain at least five yards away from all of them, including his dog.
The judge, after reading the filing, refused to grant a temporary restraining order. The court said the documents did not adequately demonstrate that ******* son had engaged in any violence, threatened to use violence or caused any significant emotional distress. The court scheduled a hearing for Aug. 24 to consider the request. The judge has not ruled on the merits of Chamberlin's allegations.
The filing follows ******* son's arrest in July on suspicion of misdemeanor battery. The actress was arrested and, the same day, was released on her own recognizance. ******* son is best known for playing Jill Foster Abbott on the long-running soap opera The Young and the Restless. CHICAGO (AP) — An active-duty soldier who was hit by a stray bullet during a shooting outside the White House announced on Tuesday that he plans to sue the Secret Service over his life-threatening injuries.
Pfc. Benjamin Del Real Jr., 25, was visiting the capital on May 23 and hoping to snap pictures with his sister and father outside the White House when a gunman opened fire. Secret Service fired back, killing the man, and a bullet struck Del Real in the stomach, causing serious injuries that required emergency surgery. Part of his digestive system had to be removed.
Del Real filed notice of a personal injury claim on Tuesday, saying he plans to sue for $25 million under the Federal Tort Claims Act. He accused the Secret Service of botching its response to the shooting and failing to adequately protect him and other bystanders, he and his lawyer, Joseph Murphy, said Tuesday at a news conference.
"I, my father and Benjamin all feared for our lives, and the moment that I saw Ben bleeding was undoubtedly the scariest moment of my life," said his sister, Sara Del Real.
The Secret Service has not said whether its agents fired the bullet that struck Del Real. The Metropolitan Police Department said earlier this summer that the ballistics on that bullet had not yet been returned. Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Lee Lepe said Tuesday the investigation is ongoing.

We're almost there, folks: training camp.
While the NFL offseason is tediously long, I'm usually fine and adequately preoccupied with baseball and the usual summer activities that fill evenings and weekends. The World Cup was also a welcome distraction this year.
Nonetheless, when the MLB All-Star Break hits, the itch becomes impossible to scratch, and football season can't arrive soon enough.
The focus will be on the quarterback competition. Since I last touched on the topic a few weeks ago, the odds have shifted ever so slightly in J.J. McCarthy's favor (-770, 88.5% implied probability, down from -1000, 90.9%).
Regardless, it can still comfortably be filed under "shock" if Kyler Murray isn't under center in Week 1. How I feel and what I want are utterly irrelevant. The important thing is that the Vikings' front office has secured the appropriate insurance policy with Murray and (a healthy) Carson Wentz to ensure last year's quarterback situation is not repeated. Good luck to Kyler and J.J., and whatever happens, happens.

Franklin-Myers was an impactful piece of the defense for the Broncos. Unfortunately, it seemed to become clear last season that the team would lose him in free agency when contract extensions were given to multiple players, but not him. More or less, JFM just became too expensive for the Broncos to keep him around.
This offseason, Franklin-Myers signed with the Tennessee **** ans as a free agent.
Whether or not the Broncos have adequately replaced has been questioned at length this offseason, despite the Broncos using their first pick in the 2026 draft to select Tyler Onyedim out of Texas A&M in the third round. However, the answer to who could sufficiently replace Franklin-Myers may have already been on the roster, at least according to a recent prediction from Ben Solak of ESPN.

"Our organization nor Caitlin have had any interaction in this congressional group and we were unaware of their letter," the Fever's statement said.

Each time a WNBA opponent makes hard contact with Caitlin Clark , a familiar sequence of events typically follows. Over the past few weeks that sequence has consisted of a missed whistle, a viral clip, a wave of outrage, a quiet league review, followed by an outpouring of commentary from coaches, teammates, broadcasters, and fans insisting that the sport's most visible player must be protected. And while the implicit instinct behind some of that chorus is largely understandable, and in many cases may be sincere, the language used often unknowingly relies on sentiments and language that perpetuate decades of harmful stereotypes about women athletes.
Specifically, what we are seeing as people attempt to protect Cailtin Clark is the harmful framing of women athletes as either fragile and in need of protection, while simultaneously characterizing other's as too physical and classless. The outcome of these storylines is also increasingly becoming harmful to the growth of the sport. Given that women's professional sport continues to grow at historic rates, it is unfortunate that one of the biggest storylines is being told through a frame that is reviving harmful stereotypes about women athletes.

The most recent example of protection came on June 24, when Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas pressed a closed fist into Clark's neck during a scramble for a loose ball and drew no whistle. The league reviewed the play the next day, upgraded it to a Flagrant 2, and suspended Thomas for one game . In the hours between, Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White described the no-calls as "absolutely unacceptable," "egregious," and "utterly disrespectful," and accused WNBA officials of failing to safeguard a "generational talent." It was not the first such moment. The Chennedy Carter hip-check, Angel Reese's forearm, and the Jacy Sheldon–Marina Mabrey physicality followed similar sequences, and each became a national conversation on whether Clark, specifically, was being adequately protected.

Microsoft has called the claims "without merit" and says it will vigorously defend itself.
That said, TD Cowen maintained a Buy rating on Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) with a $540 price target on June 4. The firm highlighted that the company has launched seven new self-built AI models designed for fine-tuning and cost optimization. TD Cowen sees this as a meaningful shift in how Microsoft approaches AI development. The firm also noted that these models will reduce the company's dependency on external frontier labs for AI capabilities.
