Big Ten Media Days wrapped up last week and with the annual trek to Chicago came the media projections for each and every team in the conference.
We noted in our rundown last week that Iowa had three pre-season All-Big Ten nominees in offensive linemen Kade Pieper and Trevor Lauck, as well as defensive back Zach Lutmer, who also garnered votes for defensive player of the year in the conference. They were joined by TE DJ Vonnahme, who earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten.
As for the team overall, they were picked to finish 8th in the conference according to the media.

Indiana football has cancelled another future non-conference series, this time against Notre Dame. The Hoosiers and Fighting Irish were set to meet in Bloomington and South Bend in 2030 and 2031 seasons in a pair of games agreed to years ago when Tom Allen and Brian Kelly were still leading their respective programs.
Notre Dame has replaced those games with a rescheduled series against historic rival USC. It remains to be seen how Indiana, which reportedly requested out of the series, replaces those gaps in its schedule.
As of now, the Hoosiers have no power conference opponents in future non-conference schedules. Indiana has previously cancelled series against both Louisville and Virginia. Indiana's approach to non-conference scheduling predates Curt Cignetti's hiring as head coach, with the aforementioned Louisville series being cancelled during Tom Allen's time leading the program.

The Jets were active this offseason trying to upgrade a roster that finished 3-14 in 2025. The team owned four of the top 50 selections in the 2026 NFL Draft. Prior to the Draft, the team was also active in free agency and the trade market, hoping to add veteran experience to a young roster.
Last week in our SB Nation Reacts survey, we asked you which veteran addition would play best for the team in the upcoming 2026 campaign. The results are in.
I have to admit I am a bit surprised by the results.

Napoli are pressing hard to sign Benoît Badiashile, with the Chelsea defender established as their leading target to shore up a backline hit by injury.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Badiashile has become the man Napoli want after Alessandro Buongiorno was struck down by a knee problem and Sam Beukema was left battling fitness issues of his own.
The Frenchman, a towering left-footed centre-back, appeals to Massimiliano Allegri as a natural stand-in for Buongiorno, and sporting director Giovanni Manna has been working on the deal since the club's training camp in Dimaro.

Juventus have not given up on Alexander Sørloth, with Luciano Spalletti still keen to add the Atlético Madrid striker even after the arrival of Randal Kolo Muani, and a deal that could hinge on the future of Nico González.

The Jacksonville Jaguars' turnover luck on defense finally flipped last season. After generating the NFL's third-fewest turnovers from 2020-24 (89), including the fewest in the league in 2024 (9), the Jags ranked second with 31 forced turnovers in 2025. The secondary adopted the moniker "Strapsonville" about halfway through the season. It was quite the debut for defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile and his staff.
"We're being coached to take the ball away," cornerback Jourdan Lewis said after Monday's training camp practice. "High pointing the ball, making sure that the receiver can't make a catch, make a play on the ball in the air. We're being coached to do that. Everything that you see, all the turnovers, everything that we're doing, being ball hungry, that's getting coached."
"And we have the talent to go out there and do it every single week, as you saw last year. When we came out here at OTAs last year, I knew, like, 'Wow, we got some guys that can go take the ball away.' Just like this year. OTAs and training camp, we just have to fine-tune some of our detailed things, but we have the talent to take the ball away."
While I don't disagree with anything Lewis said, it's hard to imagine Jacksonville forcing 30+ turnovers for a second straight season. Linebacker Devin Lloyd accounted for nearly a fifth of the 2025 production with 5 interceptions and 1 fumble recovery; he's now a Carolina Panther. The defense will gain playmaking ability via Travis Hunter, sure, but a 15.6% clip of turnovers per drive will still be difficult to carry over. Such rates tend to fluctuate from year to year.

Well… the answer was a resounding "No!" To be fair, we do not know if those who responded wanted to buy, sell or stand pat but whatever their stance was they are unchanged.
The question was asked prior to the results of the homestand so if asked again on the eve of the MLB Trade Deadline the response might be different. The Padres have won eight of their last nine games and have pulled within a game of the final Wild Card spot in the National League. The offense has been much improved from where it was to start the season, and the pitching has been cobbled together with the Pitching Chaos approach. The results are in from our SB Nation Reacts survey for this week, ladies and gentlemen, so let's take a look at what everyone thinks about our Minnesota Vikings topic for this week.
We asked you, with training camp just having gotten underway, whether or not you feel our favorite squad will be making a return to the postseason this year. 'Tis, apparently, the season for positivity around here, as the local gentry feels the purple will be playing into mid-January rather than just the early portions of it.
Of those who responded to our survey, a full 80% feel that the Vikings will make a return to the playoffs this season after a one-year hiatus. More of you feel that they'll be joining the playoff field as a Wild Card team than as the NFC North division champion, with 44% of our respondents saying the Vikings will make the postseason as a Wild Card team and 36% saying they'll win the NFC North for the first time since 2022. And there are 20% of you who responded that believe the Vikings will miss the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
I do think the Vikings will make their way back to the playoffs this season, and I do think it's more likely they'll be there as a Wild Card than as a division champ. I expect the NFC North to, once again, be among the toughest divisions in the NFL this season, and even though the Vikings were. . .in theory. . .one botched kickoff return away from winning the NFC North last season, the margin for error is going to be pretty slim again this year. Have the Vikings made enough of the necessary changes to get over the hump and get to the top of the division? Obviously, we don't know what role injuries are going to play around the division yet, either.
Here's hoping that our optimism isn't misplaced when it comes to our postseason hopes for the 2026 season. We're a little less than two weeks away from seeing an actual football game involving our favorite team, albeit one that doesn't count for anything other than seeing who will take some of the spots at the bottom of the roster. I, for one, will just be happy to see it.

More of you feel that they'll be joining the playoff field as a Wild Card team than as the NFC North division champion, with 44% of our respondents saying the Vikings will make the postseason as a Wild Card team and 36% saying they'll win the NFC North for the first time since 2022. And there are 20% of you who responded that believe the Vikings will miss the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
I do think the Vikings will make their way back to the playoffs this season, and I do think it's more likely they'll be there as a Wild Card than as a division champ. I expect the NFC North to, once again, be among the toughest divisions in the NFL this season, and even though the Vikings were. . .in theory. . .one botched kickoff return away from winning the NFC North last season, the margin for error is going to be pretty slim again this year. Have the Vikings made enough of the necessary changes to get over the hump and get to the top of the division? Obviously, we don't know what role injuries are going to play around the division yet, either.
Here's hoping that our optimism isn't misplaced when it comes to our postseason hopes for the 2026 season. We're a little less than two weeks away from seeing an actual football game involving our favorite team, albeit one that doesn't count for anything other than seeing who will take some of the spots at the bottom of the roster. I, for one, will just be happy to see it.

When he saw the Philadelphia 76ers trade for Jaylen Brown, he saw a team that showed ambition. He was enamored by that, which led to him eventually signing with the 76ers. It was a tough pill to swallow for some teams that wanted to sign him, including his former team, the Miami Heat.
As one of the Heat's stars, Adebayo would have loved to have James setting up for lobs and pick-and-rolls. It would have been an electric trio between Bam, LeBron, and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Unfortunately, it did not pan out for the team from South Beach.

Top scorer in the Championship in 2024/25 and the main engine behind getting Leeds United back to the big time. Yet, stroll around West Yorkshire right now, and you quickly realise statistics mean precious little when a manager's mind is made up that he is a low-priority man. Daniel Farke wants a new leading man. Simple as that.
Farke wants a traditional centre-forward to hold up the ball, bully centre-backs, and trigger the team's pressing system off the ball. They have Dominic Calvert-Lewin for that. That leaves Joel Piroe in a tough spot.

Tom Brady has reportedly been in talks with WWE following a couple of viral confrontations with wrestler/influencer Logan Paul. The interactions have come with mixed receptions, with some finding it entertaining and others seeing it as cringe-worthy.
It's safe to ***** ume that NFL legend Patrick Peterson would probably fall into the latter group.
When speaking with TMZ Sports, Peterson shot down the idea of Brady partaking in the world of professional wrestling.
"Tom don't wanna go to WWE," Peterson said. "He's a quarterback -- and I know Tom is a tough guy. I had the opportunity to be around Tom a bunch of times. He is a hard-nosed Michigan man. Those Michigan men, they definitely wear their heart on their sleeve, but the WWE, Tom? Just let it be. Just let it be, man."

It is a sign of the times ... literally. Advertisements dominate our daily viewing more than we may realize. Depending on the day, the average person will see between 4,000 and 10,000 advertisements. Ohio State fans will be adding one more to that list, as it was announced earlier today that the Buckeye Athletic Department has entered into an agreement with Chase Bank and will wear a jersey patch on all of its uniforms. The reported agreement will give OSU another $17 million to play with per year.

The San Diego Padres stumbled out of the All-Star break dropping back-to-back series on the road to the Kansas City Royals and the Atlanta Braves. Each loss, four in all, seemed to be another nail in the coffin on the 2026 season. The Padres limped into their final series of the road trip against the Miami Marlins with their season seemingly hanging in the balance. Anything less than a winning series would have surely resulted in the team looking to offload expiring contracts at the deadline relegating the remaining players on the roster to play out the string of games before heading to the offseason.
The Padres had other plans and instead of just winning the series against the Marlins, they swept the team from South Beach and handed them their 12th consecutive loss. San Diego had a thrilling win in the third and final game of the series that saw the Padres enter the eighth inning trailing by two runs. Manny Machado hit a two-run home run to tie the game and two batters later, Jackson Merrill connected on a solo home run to put San Diego in the lead. Luis Campusano later added an RBI-single in the inning and the Friar Faithful got a glimpse of what the Padres could be — and were expected to be.
Starting pitching has been problematic for San Diego, but the offense has come to life in the past week. The Seattle Seahawks don't have a starting quarterback debate right now. What a relief to finally say that after enduring "Geno Smith vs. Drew Lock and "Can Sam Howell be the guy?" in those first three post-Russell Wilson seasons. This is Sam Darnold's team until further notice.
But this week's Seahawks Reacts survey question and poll is all about second-year quarterback Jalen Milroe, whose rookie season intrigue fizzled out by Week 5 after an ill-fated option play led to a turnover. The former Alabama star was restricted to third-team offense throughout training camp and preseason, slotting in as the third-string quarterback behind Darnold and Drew Lock.
Sam Darnold's continued success lessens the quarterback worries for now, but it's still fair to wonder how Milroe's development will come along. Is he somehow going to make enough strides to be QB2 over veteran Drew Lock and his expiring contract? Or will he once again be QB3 and subject to some healthy scratches? Could he be QB3 but still feature in the offense more often? Worst case scenario (for him): Is his Seahawks tenure already in jeopardy?

There is really nothing like the trade deadline in MLB. Yes, other leagues have an in-season deadline, and it can be a season defining moment for those leagues as well, but in Major League Baseball the ripple effect of a deadline deal could last for a decade or more. Teams at the deadline are basically debating between their ability to win a championship in the next two years vs. five years down the road.
Those are the stakes for every trade involving an All-Star level talent. But this year has at least the possibility of a trade that would hit the league like a tornado. The Detroit Tigers are currently 50-57, six games back in the A.L. Central and four games out of the Wild Card. Far from insurmountable, but with the amount of teams in their way it would be a heavy lift. It's been a letdown season for the Tigers who had World Series aspirations. Now they are faced with an organization defining decision. Should they trade arguably the best pitcher in baseball?
Tarik Skubal is a two-time Cy Young winner who is still four months away from turning 30-years old. He could, if healthy, be in his prime for at least another five seasons. That's five seasons of an ace who can lead a team through the postseason. That kind of pitcher isn't often available, and any trade would require an absolute haul of prospects and young talent in return. It would take an all-in move by a team ready to win now and not worried about depleting their Minor League organization.
On the other side of the coin, the Tigers aren't a team that looks to be in desperate need of a rebuild just yet. There is plenty of talent on that team in a division that feels gettable in the near future. But with the uncertainty looming next season, maybe the time is right to cash in?
