And as the Mets continue to start Taylor to showcase the veteran outfielder to potential trade partners, he's been making the most of the opportunity, including in Saturday's 6-2 loss to the Marlins. Taylor's two-run blast accounted for the only offense by the Mets, another blast in what's become a string of them for Taylor.
The second-inning blast was Taylor's 10th of the season, with seven of them coming in his last 19 games dating back to July 4. It's the most he's hit in that span in his career and the fourth-most in the National League during that period. He's also leading the majors in slugging (.951) and OPS (1.389) in that span.

It's the first game of August! Rejoice, San Francisco Giants fans …. the season won't go on much longer. The Giants are in sunny SoCal for this contest, as they play the third of four games against the San Diego Padres.

It's been 13 days since Kodai Senga last took the mound for the Mets, but what the right-hander did Friday night against the Marlins was commendable considering what was against him.
Not only was Senga, who has been used out of the bullpen of late, down for two weeks, but he found out he was starting just hours before the 7:10 p.m. first pitch. The Mets scratched Freddy Peralta from his originally scheduled start as negotiations heated up ahead of the trade deadline.
It actually worked out for Senga, as he pitched four scoreless innings before running out of gas in the fifth of the Mets' 5-2 loss to the Marlins. He allowed three earned runs -- two coming after he was pulled -- on two hits and two walks while striking out four.
"He was phenomenal today for a guy who hasn't been out there for 13-14 days. You can't ask for anything more," interim manager Andy Green said after the game. "That was an impressive four innings. If I'm handling that right, that's the end of his night and he feels really good about himself."
"To be honest, there was some fear - I hope it's gonna go okay," Senga said of his outing after being down for so long via an interpreter. "Despite that, I was able to go out there, not be too tense or anything, and go out there and pitch."

The Mets fell to the Fish by a score of 5-2 which evened up the series against Miami. Kodai Senga got the start instead of Freddy Peralta who was scratched ahead of Monday's trade deadline.
Senga was actually very good through four innings allowing just one hit and no walks. Unfortunately it all fell apart in the fifth when issued back-to-back walks to start the inning. Jakob Marsee followed with a double to put the Marlins on the board with their first run of the game. Senga was then lifted in favor of Xzavion Curry who didn't exactly limit the damage. Two singles brought home two more runs and Miami held a 4-0 lead when the inning ended. That also closed the book on Senga's night who was charged with three of those runs. It's a shame because it was a positive step forward for the righty until the fifth, and perhaps he tired a bit towards the end of his outing.
After the Mets put a run on the board in the bottom of the inning thanks to a Marlins error and an A.J. Ewing RBI single, Curry gave the run right back the following inning on a Kyle Stowers home run.
Francisco Lindor countered with a solo shot of his own in the seventh but that was as close as the Mets would get. The offense wasn't necessarily shut down by Miami's pitchers. They had their chances they just couldn't capitalize on them. Luis Robert Jr. especially had a rough night. He struck out with runners on second and third and two-out in the fourth and grounded into a double play in the eighth when they needed baserunners. One night after being the hero he went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. As the great Frank Sinatra once said 'That's life."
Nothing else of any importance happened in this game but its what is happening away from the field that is far more important for this organization right now. Get me some trades, and some photos of Spider-man!

The last place Cincinnati Reds are limping towards the August 3rd trade deadline at just 51-57, still buried in the busy National League Wild Card standings 5.5 games back of the final spot. That comes with the caveat that there are six NL clubs they'd have to jump to earn their way into that spot – the Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres, Miami Marlins, Pittsburgh Pirates, Washington Nationals, and St. Louis Cardinals.
At quick glance, at least three of those clubs are likely going to be buyers at the deadline. So, the Reds are between a rock and a hard place, and anything other than a miracle win streak this weekend will likely send them into at least some mode of selling.

What's the definition of "not going well?" How about playing a series against a team that came in on a 12-game losing streak, and getting swept? The series against the Marlins showed that it's not just one thing plaguing the Phillies at the moment, it's everything. Each loss came in a different fashion, with the one common thread being poor defense.
Next, the Phillies will travel to Baltimore to take on an Orioles team that theoretically should provide some opportunities for victories. However, considering how poorly the team has played since the All-Star Game, any future opponents could say the same thing.
Jackson Holliday was a can't miss prospect. The son of a former All-Star and first overall pick of the 2022 draft, Holliday was rated as the top prospect in baseball prior to the 2024 season. When he was called up to the majors in April of that year, it was expected that the middle infielder would become an instant star.
For every Phillies fan who complains that the team is too slow to promote their young players, just remember that not every prospect, no matter how touted they are, is going to be succeed immediately upon reaching the majors. The Boston Red Sox have already made one trade for a middle infielder leading up to the trade deadline by adding Curtis Mead.
Mead is already on the injured list, but he is a piece that can help them for the next few seasons. However, reports suggest they are still in the market for a shortstop. With second base now taken, adding a shortstop would essentially put Marcelo Mayer and Trevor Story out of starting jobs, at least in the long run.

The Miami Marlins and Telemundo have announced a local deal that will see the Marlins broadcast games over-the-air in Spanish for the first time.
The agreement will see two Marlins games air in Spanish on WSCV (Channel 51) in Miami: Sunday, Aug. 9, vs. the Los Angeles Angels at 1:40 p.m. ET and the regular-season finale on Sunday, Sept. 27, vs. the Atlanta Braves at 3:10 p.m. ET.
Unlike most Spanish-language broadcasts, the Marlins games on Telemundo will feature a dedicated broadcast team. Jose Francisco Rivera will handle play-by-play, with Daniel Álvarez-Montes providing color commentary.
"Baseball is deeply rooted in the Spanish-speaking community, and that is especially true here in South Florida," said Caroline O'Connor, Miami Marlins President of Business. How bold do you think the Red Sox are going to be this trade deadline? The team is no doubt in a tricky situation, with a playoff berth currently in hand, but a roster that likely presents too many challenges to genuinely contend. Sloppy defense and ineffective pitching led to a gut-punch loss for the Colorado Rockies Tuesday night. The Rockies had four errors and allowed six walks, making it hard to quell the continuous pressure from the San Diego Padres. Now, the Rockies look to snag a series split to close out the short stint against the Padres.
Gabriel Hughes (0-2, 2.79 ERA) looks to continue the strong start to his young career. Over his three starts, Hughes has proven to be unflappable and capable of handling any type of big league lineup. He has gone at least five innings and allowed three or fewer runs in each start while striking out at least five batters. In his last outing, Hughes battled the Washington Nationals, allowing just one run on five hits over five innings of work. Hughes' cut fastball continues to baffle hitters and when his secondary pitches are working, he can almost look unhittable. The issue he ran into his last time out was that the Nationals ran his pitch count up with an excess of foul **** . That was also what got Michael Lorenzen in trouble yesterday. The team signed veteran backstop Christian Bethancourt and ***** igned him to Triple-A before beating the White Sox, 3-2, in Chicago. The move shouldn't have any impact on the Yankees' pursuit of a righty-swinging catcher prior to the Aug. 3 trade deadline, though options appear limited for them and a handful of other needy clubs.
While Bethancourt is a right-handed hitter, he's ideally just another experienced Triple-A depth catcher for the Yankees alongside J.C. Escarra, a lefty. That depth could prove useful down the road since big league backup Ali Sánchez is out of minor league options.
Sánchez, a right-handed hitter who crushed the first homer of his career in Tuesday's win, would likely be forced out if the Yankees trade for a catcher to pair with the lefty-swinging Austin Wells.

MIAMI (AP) — Clayton McCullough breathed a sigh of relief. The Marlins finally won a game.
Miami overcame two-run, ninth-inning deficit in the ninth on Monday to beat division-rival Philadelphia 8-7 and snap a 12-game losing streak — the longest such stretch in franchise history.
It was the Marlins' first win since beating Seattle at home on July 9 and ensured they would not suffer their fifth straight sweep.
"Everybody feels good," McCullough said. "It's no lie everyone in the building has been grinding hard now for a couple of weeks and frustrated with things, but certainly it feels great to get a win and I think in the fashion that we did it'd be hard to ever question this group's toughness and willingness to compete."
Griffin Conine singled in the winning run against Philadelphia closer Jhoan Duran, who entered in the ninth with a 7-5 lead before loading the bases with no outs.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have not gotten a start from Tyler Glasnow in months, but that is slowly changing.
Glasnow went down on the injured list with back spasms, something that was triggered back in May after one inning of work against the Houston Astros.
Since then, he was shut down for a bit, resumed throwing, and then he was shut down once again.
He has experienced a lot of stop-and-start, but over the last two weeks he has finally been cleared to resume throwing and has gotten work in.
