In the first year of his second term, President Donald Trump made a special effort to deny the impacts of climate change. In a September 2025 United Nations speech, he called carbon footprints a “hoax” and criticized climate policies, jabbing, “Windmills are pathetic.” The White House defunded renewable energy subsidies, dismissing them as a waste of government funding.
But the administration launched a probe this month into Brazil’s deforestation as part of Trump’s implementation of new tariffs, which entail investigations into countries’ trade practices.
Brazil is home to about 60% of the Amazon rain forest, which absorbs carbon dioxide that would otherwise enter the atmosphere and contribute to global warming. Legal deforestation—mostly as a result of cattle ranching and agricultural expansion—has cost the country about 3.7 million acres per year.
To be sure, Trump hasn’t changed his mind about climate change, though his sudden concern over deforestation is still ironic.
Instead, the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) announced a wave of new tariffs on dozens of major U.S. trading partners under Section 301 of the 1974 Trade Act, alleging they failed to enforce bans on imports made with forced labor.

Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson said concerns about wealthy residents and businesses leaving Washington over rising taxes are "overblown" during an interview on Wednesday.
"So today, do you still feel the narrative of the rich leaving is still overblown," FOX 13 Seattle co-anchor Hana Kim asked Wilson.
"So, I still think that claims of a large exodus of rich people due to our statewide millionaire tax that the legislature passed this year are overblown," Wilson responded with a chuckle. "I do believe that."
Seattle Mayor Laughs Off Millionaires Leaving Washington State Over Progressive Taxes, Waves 'Bye'
In March, Washington state Democrats passed the millionaire's tax, a 9.9% income tax for households that make over $1 million a year, which Democratic Gov. Bob Ferguson signed on March 30. It's the state's first-ever income tax, pushed by progressives and opposed by conservatives.

Madison Clapp, daughter of Jackass star Johnny Knoxville, grew up hearing plenty of jokes about her name — but not for the reason some may think.
"I'd walk down the halls of my high school and people would clap their hands," she tells Yahoo.
That was the joke for years — until she learned her surname has another meaning.
"At some point, I figured out: Oh, it also means that," referring to the old-fashioned slang for the ******* ually transmitted infection (STI) gonorrhea. "So I looked it up, which no one should — it's forever ingrained in my memory."
Now 30 and a real estate agent in Austin, Clapp has found a way to turn her last name into a marketing tool. In January, a billboard declaring her to be "The Clapp You Want" went up in her home city. It was the brainchild of Clapp, Knoxville — who knows a little something about stunts — and family friend Cathy Guthrie, the musician daughter of folk singer Arlo Guthrie.

The Arizona Cardinals opened its mandatory veteran minicamp, which will run from June 8 to June 10. The minicamp will consist of practice sessions only on Tuesday and Wednesday. EDGE rusher Josh Sweat has made an appearance since not showing for any of the voluntary OTAs.
To date, ******* ody really knows why Sweat wasn’t showing up for the team activities.
RELATED: SWEAT NOT AT CARDINALS OFFSEASON WORKOUTS
QB Jacoby Brissett had been another holdout but has also reported. But Brissett’s absence is over his demand to have his contract restructured since he was named the starting quarterback and yet is being paid the #30 best salary in the league, basically still playing on a backup salary.
But with Sweat, it is unknown what his deal was.

MENDHAM — Lexi Alofs can barely remember when draw controls were not part of her game. She started taking the draw to jump-start play in third grade with Steps Lacrosse, alongside teammates like Cristiana Laracca and Shea Shoulberg.
Not much has changed. Those same girls were at her side as Alofs won nearly every draw control as Mendham defeated Sparta, 17-6, to win the NJSIAA Group 2 North trophy.
The top-seeded Minutemen move on to the overall Group 2 final at 1:30 p.m. on June 13 at The College of New Jersey.
The Minutemen will learn their opponent on Tuesday, after the rest of the sectional finals are played. This game was moved up due to Mendham's prom.
"The faith they have in me, and how they support me helps my confidence," Vanderbilt commit Alofs said of her teammates. "How I can self-draw, that comes from the circle people, Amelia (Eichman) and Grace (Monahan). I love it. It's a beautiful part of the sport, and it can change so much."

Christian Polanco and Alexis Guerreros kick off the show by making their biggest predictions for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. From who will lift the trophy to who will win the Golden Boot and which nation could fall short of expectations, The Cooligans put their reputations on the line with their boldest World Cup takes. Then, Colombian actress and global superstar Sofía Vergara joins the show to talk about growing up in a soccer-obsessed Colombia, her favorite World Cup memories and why she's excited to see the tournament return to North America.
Next, Curacao goalkeeper Eloy Room stops by to discuss one of the most remarkable stories of the 2026 World Cup. Room reflects on Curacao's historic qualification campaign, what it means to represent the smallest nation ever to reach the tournament and how Lionel Messi personally asked to swap jerseys after a match. He also shares stories from his career journey through Europe, MLS and international football.
To wrap up the show, USMNT historian and Guardian journalist Leander Schaerlaeckens joins The Cooligans to discuss the state of the United States Men's National Team heading into the World Cup. Leander explains why the USMNT's failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup may have accelerated the development of the current generation, breaks down America's chances of making a statement this summer and looks at what success would truly mean for the program on home soil.

Hashim Mahmoud, a strategy and operations manager, found his job by taking networking to the extreme.
The 30-year-old tracked his efforts in a spreadsheet to remember to send thank-yous and follow-up notes.
He shared one template for LinkedIn connection requests and another for asking contacts to make intros.
This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with 30-year-old Hashim Mahmoud, a strategy and operations manager at Angi, an online home-services marketplace formerly known as Angie's List. His identity and background have been verified. This story has been edited for length and clarity.
I found my current position after just a few months of job hunting in 2024, largely thanks to how I went about networking. I reached out to more than 1,200 people, spoke with about 150 of them, and got about 20 interviews before landing the position I have now at Angi. The job market may be more competitive today, but I think my experience still applies.

Expecting any level of ideological consistency from partisan political actors is a fool's errand; even so, the amount of sheer hypocrisy generated by the Graham Platner scandal is striking.
In response to fresh allegations that Platner, the presumptive Democratic candidate for Senate in Maine, was abusive in his past relationships, conservatives who in the past have been correctly discerning of the motivations behind certain **** ual misconduct claims are now heralding these accusations as all but confirmed. In fact, they have **** ailed The New York Times, which published a detailed story about Platner's dating history and alleged violent episodes, for not going further in its indictment.
Meanwhile, many Democrats who gleefully and uncritically embraced the "believe all women" mantra of the #MeToo era are broadly dismissive of the Times story, even though the evidence of wrongdoing is arguably more compelling in this case.
What do I mean by that? The central accusation unfurled by the Times comes from Lyndsey Fifield, who dated Platner from 2013 to 2015. Fifield is a Republican activist, which is probably enough reason for some people to be dismissive of the claims — her partisan reasons for raising issues about Platner's behavior and character are obvious. Nevertheless, Fifield claims that Platner often grabbed her, dragged her, and shoved her during arguments and when he was drinking; he once "twisted her arm behind her back, shoved her into a bedroom and held the door closed from the other side so she couldn't get out," she told the Times. Fifield denied that he ever seriously hurt her, instead characterizing his behavior as "rough."
In an appearance on MSNBC last week, Platner strongly denied that any of these altercations took place, though he has conceded to being a bad boyfriend in the past and has chalked this up to psychological trauma from his service as a U.S. Marine.

In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Tottenham Hotspur are showing interest in Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo this summer. It has been stated that Spurs are eyeing a €30m move to sign the Uruguayan talent in this transfer period.
The 27-year-old served as an important role in Hansi Flick’s squad in the previous campaign when he put in a run of solid performances for Barca on the defensive end of the field. Araujo found the back of the net four times in 38 matches for the Catalan club last season across all fronts.
The Uruguayan talent is currently one of the most reliable centre-backs in La Liga. Hence, it is no surprise that Spurs are trying to sign him in this summer transfer window.
Araujo’s current deal at the Nou Camp will run out in the summer of 2031, so Tottenham have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting him this off-season.

Belgium will be seeking to upset the odds and claim a historic victory at the 2026 World Cup in likely the final international tournament for Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku.
The Napoli pair are amongst a handful of players who remain from the core of the side widely considered as their country’s golden generation, and could go out on the highest of highs on football’s biggest stage.
Going off of FIFA’s world rankings, which Belgium had topped for almost half a decade until March 2022, they should have been in with a chance of having already won it, but failed to ever deliver on their promise at a major tournament.
But with Lukaku now 33 and De Bruyne one year his senior, it’s probable they’ll both have called time on their international careers by the time the World Cup arrives in Morocco, Portugal, and Spain in 2030.
The Red Devils are aiming to bounce back from an abysmal showing in Qatar in 2022, where they failed to progress from the group stage – a stark contrast from their third-place finish in Russia four years prior.

NEW DELHI: India captain Shubman Gill described his side's comprehensive victory over Afghanistan as a near-perfect performance, saying the team had "ticked all the boxes" in a dominant display in the one-off Test.
After leading India to 564 for 8 declared and then watching his bowlers dismiss Afghanistan twice, Gill was delighted with the contributions from every department.
Gill himself scored a brilliant century, while KL Rahul also notched up a ton as India piled on a mammoth 564/8 declared. The hosts then rode on an impressive spin performance, led by debutant Manav Suthar, to crush Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs - India's biggest victory in Test history.
“I think a complete win from us, ticked all the boxes. So very happy with that,” Gill said during the post-match presentation.
The victory also offered a glimpse into India's future. With several senior players absent and a younger group taking on greater responsibility, Gill acknowledged that batting units often face greater scrutiny during periods of transition.
However, the skipper believes the blueprint is simple: post substantial first-innings totals and trust a bowling attack capable of taking 20 wickets in any conditions.
"I'd say pretty simple. When you're batting first innings, try to post 350 on the board every time you get into bat, no matter where we are playing, what kind of conditions it is,” Gill mentioned.
The confidence stems from the quality of India's bowling resources.
"I think there's enough trust in our bowling group that we can take 20 wickets anywhere."

South African batting great AB de Villiers has backed Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's talent but said he is unsure whether the 15-year-old will choose to pursue red-ball cricket in the future.
Speaking at an event in Mumbai on Sunday, de Villiers said Sooryavanshi has the skill to succeed in Test cricket but questioned whether the teenager would want to take that path.
"Yeah, he's a wonderful talent. The red-ball thing I absolutely cannot answer. I think he can if he wants to, but there's your answer, and there's the big question as well is does he really want to? Time will tell. There's no doubt he's got the talent and the ability to do so. It won't always be easy, and I've mentioned that a few times before," de Villiers said, as quoted by news agency ANI.
The former South Africa captain said there would be challenges if Sooryavanshi chose to play the longer format but backed his ability to handle them.
"If he decides to play red-ball cricket, there will be some challenges, but he's got the skill and the ability to work through that and in my opinion, I hope he does try and play Test cricket, but I doubt it. We'll see in future."
De Villiers also supported the selectors' decision to include Sooryavanshi in India's T20I squad for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England, as well as the Asian Games.
On Saturday, the BCCI named Sooryavanshi in all three squads, making him the youngest player ever selected for the Indian side at the age of 15. He broke a 36-year-old record held by Sachin Tendulkar, who made his international debut against Pakistan in 1989 at the age of 16.
Calling the selectors' move the correct one, de Villiers said the teenager had earned his place.
"It's definitely the right call from the selectors. So well done to them for making the brave decision. It would have been easy to say that he's still too young and he's not ready, and go for more experience. He's broken down that door, and he deserves his place in the Indian T20 team, so I'm happy for him," he said.
Sooryavanshi earned the call-up after a record-breaking IPL 2026 season with Rajasthan Royals. The Bihar batter finished as the tournament's highest run-scorer with 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.30.
He also hit a record 72 sixes during the season and collected multiple post-season awards, including Most Valuable Player (MVP), Emerging Player of the Season, Super Striker, Orange Cap and Super Sixes of the Season.

The final list of top performances in Livingston County boys track and field includes two of the greatest hurdling performances in county history, both by different runners from the same school.
Pinckney senior Sam Burtts set a school record with his time of 14.49 seconds in the 110-meter high hurdles prelims at the state Division 2 meet. That ranks him a close second in county history behind Kevin Henry’s 14.48 for Fowlerville in 2004.
In the 300 hurdles, Pinckney sophomore Austin Ouillette ran 38.96 at the state finals, a time that ranks him second in county history. The county mark of 38.84 is a converted hand time run by Pinckney’s Kurt Reichenbach at the 2008 regional in Holt.

During my tenure at Pinstripe Alley—hell, during my entire time as a baseball fan—I’ve never been shy about delving into the team’s history and exploring the lives of its long roll call of players, both incredible and regrettable. We provide plenty of other coverage on the current-day activities of the teams, so I like having one spot per day on the schedule to open the ol’ books and tell a story.
Whether it’s remembering championship teams, Top 100 players, or notable free agent signings, there’s always something out there to explore. For the past three years, we’ve celebrated the 25th anniversary of the 1998-2000 Yankees dynasty by doing a diary on all their regular season and playoff activity. The final pages were written this past October, so it’s time for a new daily project.
With that in mind, we’ll ring in the new year by beginning the Yankees Birthdays series. Every day in 2026, we’ll have a new Yankees figure to discuss whose birthday happened to fall on that day. Some days will feature far more famous stars than others! But that just adds to the challenge and our interest in the exercise. As a spoiler for today, that’s exactly what you’ll see soon for January 1st.
Happy new year and happy 365 days of Yankees birthdays!

Woodward, Inc. (NASDAQ:WWD) was among the stocks Jim Cramer highlighted on Mad Money as he noted that the market has an appetite for stocks. A caller asked for Cramer’s opinion on the stock. He replied:
I happen to think it’s a very, very good company. You’re not going to get this company for less than, you know, 30, it’s going to be 40 times earnings, which it is. But it’s engineered products, industrial engines, it’s what’s working now during this administration, and I recommend it.

Woodward, Inc. (NASDAQ:WWD) designs, manufactures, and services control solutions, components, and electronic systems for the aerospace and industrial markets. The company provides both original equipment and aftermarket maintenance, repair, and overhaul services. Carillon Tower Advisers stated the following regarding Woodward, Inc. (NASDAQ:WWD) in its fourth quarter 2025 investor letter:
Woodward, Inc. (NASDAQ:WWD) develops and produces control systems and energy conversion solutions and components for the aerospace and industrial end markets. The stock was a steady and strong performer throughout 2025, and once again delivered an impressive quarterly report that was highlighted by particularly strong performance in its aerospace aftermarket vertical. The potential for the long-awaited increased rate of production from the large airframe original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in 2026 could provide an additional tailwind to growth. Investors also remain optimistic about the company’s increasing exposure to newer-generation aircraft that could result in a further step change in aftermarket growth in the latter half of the decade.

NEW DELHI: South African batting legend AB de Villiers has thrown his weight behind India's decision to hand teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi his maiden international call-up, describing the selectors' move as both "the right call" and a "brave decision".
The 15-year-old made history on Saturday when he was named in India's squads for the tours of Ireland and England and the Asian Games, becoming the youngest player ever selected for the national side and eclipsing the mark set by Sachin Tendulkar in 1989.
Speaking at an event in Mumbai, de Villiers said the selectors deserved credit for resisting the temptation to opt for experience.
"It's definitely the right call from the selectors. So well done to them for making the brave decision. It would have been easy to say that he's still too young and he's not ready, and go for more experience. He's broken down that door, and he deserves his place in the Indian T20 team, so I'm happy for him," the former South African captain said.
While de Villiers refrained from making definitive predictions about Sooryavanshi's red-ball future, he expressed confidence that the youngster possesses the skill set to succeed across formats if he chooses that path.
"Yeah, he's a wonderful talent. The red-ball thing I absolutely cannot answer. I think he can if he wants to, but there's your answer, and there's the big question as well is does he really want to? Time will tell. There's no doubt he's got the talent and the ability to do so. It won't always be easy, and I've mentioned that a few times before," de Villiers said.
The batting great acknowledged that Test cricket would present a different set of challenges, but backed the Bihar-born prodigy to overcome them.
"If he decides to play red-ball cricket, there will be some challenges, but he's got the skill and the ability to work through that and in my opinion, I hope he does try and play Test cricket, but I doubt it. We'll see in future," he added.
Sooryavanshi's rise has been nothing short of extraordinary. The Rajasthan Royals opener dominated IPL 2026 with 776 runs at a staggering strike rate of 237.30 and smashed a record 72 sixes.

When the Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series in 2024, they did what many championship teams dream of doing: they got even more aggressive. Already loaded with star power and considered the best team in MLB, the Dodgers attacked the starting pitching market and brought in several high-profile arms. One of the most intriguing additions was ***** anese phenom Roki Sasaki, a 23-year-old right-hander widely viewed as one of the most talented pitchers in the world. Signing Sasaki was the easy part. Because he was under 25 years old, the Dodgers didn’t have to hand out a massive free-agent contract. The difficult part came afterward.
MORE: MLB Power Rankings: 30 teams ranked worst to first
Sasaki’s rookie season did not go according to plan. The electric right-hander struggled to consistently command his pitches and failed to live up to the enormous expectations placed on him. Things became even more complicated when injuries entered the picture, limiting his ability to find any rhythm.
When he eventually returned, many expected the Dodgers to send him to the minor leagues or significantly reduce his role.
Instead, Los Angeles made a bold decision. The Dodgers moved Sasaki to the bullpen and trusted him in meaningful situations during their 2025 postseason run. While the move helped the club capture another championship, it also showed how committed the organization remained to his long-term development.

Incoming Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho is set to deal Manchester United a blow in their pursuit of midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, insisting the player remains at the Santiago Bernabeu. Following Florentino Perez’s victory in the club’s presidential election, Mourinho is poised to return to the Madrid dugout, and one of his first moves will be to prevent any departure for the highly sought-after French international. The Red Devils have identified Tchouameni as their ideal signing to anchor a revamped midfield as Old Trafford officials believe the 26-year-old has the physical presence and tactical discipline required to succeed Casemiro.
Tchouameni’s future was cast into doubt late in the season after a highly publicised training ground altercation with teammate Federico Valverde. The incident resulted in a €500,000 fine for both players. However, any expectations of a Premier League move have now been crushed, as Mourinho, who monitored the squad’s internal tensions during his final weeks at Benfica, has no intention of sanctioning the Frenchman’s sale. Renowned for building defensively resilient teams anchored by dominant holding midfielders, Mourinho sees the ‘incredible’ Tchouameni as indispensable to his tactical system.
With Perez officially securing his mandate until 2030, Real Madrid are fully aligned with their new manager’s vision. The club is under no financial pressure to sell key players, especially as substantial gains are planned through other squad adjustments. Mourinho has made it clear to the hierarchy that rebuilding the squad’s competitive edge starts with retaining its elite core. While Manchester United are ready to spend heavily on a world-class defensive midfielder this summer, they will have to look elsewhere, as Mourinho has locked down Tchouameni’s future in Madrid.

Lamar Jackson has already built one of the most unique quarterback résumés in NFL history, and the question entering the 2026 season is no longer whether the Baltimore Ravens star has the talent of a Hall of Famer. The question is whether his career has already reached a Hall of Fame trajectory.
The answer is yes.
Jackson is a two-time ******* ociated Press NFL MVP, a three-time first-team All-Pro, a four-time Pro Bowl selection, and one of the winningest quarterbacks of the modern era. He owns the most rushing yards by a quarterback in NFL history, has produced some of the most efficient passing performances the league has seen, and remains the centerpiece of a Ravens franchise that has been a consistent AFC contender since he became the starter.
That combination of individual honors, statistical innovation, team success, and historical significance gives Jackson a Hall of Fame foundation that few quarterbacks can match before turning 30.
Jackson's path to that point began long before the Ravens selected him with the No. 32 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. He emerged as one of the nation's premier dual-threat quarterback prospects at Boynton Beach High School in Florida, where his blend of arm talent, speed, and open-field creativity quickly made him one of the most recognizable players in the state. According to 247Sports, Jackson ranked as the No. 8 dual-threat quarterback nationally and the No. 31 overall prospect in Florida, while Scout.com listed him among the top players in the South Region.

As we venture into the first week of June, the 2026 MLB season is fully underway. This week, we are back to focusing on the overperformers, or the arms whose ERAs are being suppressed by batted-ball luck and high strand rates. From ERAs near 1.50 with xFIPs above 5.00, we examine five pitchers who are outrunning their underlying numbers.
MORE: MLB Power Rankings: 30 teams ranked worst to first
Leading off the list this week is Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Nick Martinez, whose current run of form seems highly unsustainable. Through May, he sits at a 1.62 ERA over 66.2 innings, helping Tampa Bay currently post the lowest team ERA in baseball. What really helps him is his BABIP (.236) and strand rate (90.2%), which both outperform his career figures.
He limits hard contact with only a low hard-hit rate (32.5%) and average exit velocity (86.7 mph), but his low strikeout rate (14.9%) and 92.6 mph fastball do not allow for a continuous swing-and-miss ****** nal. Once baserunners stop being stranded, Nick Martinez’s ERA will climb above his sub-2.00 mark as his command-and-luck mirage fades.
Next up is New York Mets right-hander Clay Holmes, who had been one of the few bright spots in Queens before his injury, posting a 2.39 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP across his first 52.2 innings. He thrives on grounders rather than being dominant on the mound, which is shown by his contact quality data: a 44% hard-hit rate and a .307 expected wOBA against his .262 actual mark.
