For the past couple of decades, the so-called "American Dream" has followed a pretty linear pathway. You finish high school, go to a four-year university, and then graduate straight into a corporate office that comes with a slick 401(k).
That bachelor's degree was the golden ticket that made everything possible, and your parents probably told you that earning a diploma was critical to your success, right? Well, new labor market data has turned that decades-old playbook upside down.

I'll admit that like many economists and market commentators, I have warned about more market calamities than have actually come to pass. I'll say this in my defense:
If you ignore risk, you take your chances with what the market does next. If you always seek to account for risk, you can ride the highs without being pummeled by all the lows. Over time, that's a more gratifying investment experience.

Just over a year ago, investors largely viewed IREN (IREN) as a bitcoin mining company. Today, the company supplies AI infrastructure to Microsoft (MSFT) and signs billion-dollar contracts with some of the biggest names in the AI market, including Nvidia (NVDA) and Dell Technologies (DELL). These developments provide evidence that IREN's shift toward AI infrastructure is translating into actual business activity, and the market has responded strongly to that progress. IREN shares have been rewarded with two strong moves over the last two months.
IREN's AI transformation centers on a major five-year agreement with Microsoft. The company entered into a $9.7 billion cloud services agreement with Microsoft, with 20% of the contract value paid upfront. Once fully commissioned, the deal is expected to generate nearly $1.94 billion in annualized run-rate revenue. That gives IREN a significant source of contracted business as it builds out its AI cloud operations.

Risk management is my number one priority. As I see it, you can't get where you want to be as an investor if you don't control the risk you take.
That ranges from the use of cash, incorporation of hedging techniques, and a whole lot more. Here, I want to draw your attention to one of the less research intensive aspects of risk management.

On the Sept. 3, 2026 episode of The Ramsey Show, a Houston caller named Nathan asked whether he should use his savings to clear a mortgage he described as a "whatever, 2% mortgage or something." He had about $280,000 left on it and roughly $346,000 in liquid ******* ets, most of it cash and the rest in a taxable brokerage account. Dave Ramsey told him to do it, and to do it that night.
Five months earlier, Ramsey had told a caller in almost the same position the opposite. On April 1, 2026, a web engineer earning around $600,000 a year called in about three weeks after being laid off, sitting on enough cash to clear a San Francisco, California mortgage. "When you're in the middle of a storm, you do temporary things," Ramsey said. "Hold on to the cash. We're not gonna pay off the house because we may not be staying in the house."

Intel (NASDAQ:INTC), the leading chip manufacturer, closed at $108.80, up 7.67%. Shares rose after news reports yesterday of a possible tie-up with SK Hynix (NASDAQ:SKHY). They continued to rise today, even though the South Korean firm issued a statement saying that nothing has been finalized.
Trading volume reached 147.2 million shares, coming in about 35% above its three-month average of 109.0 million shares.
The S&P 500 closed at 7,638, up 1.14%, while the Nasdaq Composite finished at 26,418, up 1.69%. Among semiconductors, Advanced Micro Devices closed at $545.09, up 6.36%, and Qualcomm closed at $188.71, up 2.09%, as chip-sector strength and memory-share momentum lifted the group.
Chip stocks rallied today after a rough week in which interest rate hikes and tech leaders' calls for a slowdown in artificial intelligence (AI) development weighed on the sector. Intel got an extra boost from a deal that may not even materialize: Even a whisper that SK Hynix might, possibly, maybe lease part of its Ohio complex or enter into a joint venture proved tantalizing to investors.
The difficulty with these types of speculative price jumps is that they often aren't sustainable. SK Hynix saying it is "exploring various options" is a long way from signing a deal. More concrete news? Barclays upgraded the stock from "Underperform" to "Overweight." Ultimately, Intel is well-placed to benefit from growing AI demand, but finding a client for its foundry business -- whether or not that's SK Hynix -- would represent a significant win.

Semiconductor rivalries rarely move stock prices the way headlines suggest they should. MediaTek unveiled a new flagship smartphone processor on Tuesday, Sept. 15, built to challenge Qualcomm directly in the premium handset market.
Qualcomm Inc (QCOM)'s stock rose anyway, closing up 4.25% at $187.80.
That is not a new pattern. MediaTek's market value first surpassed Qualcomm's earlier this year, according to Reuters. The new chip was meant to widen that lead, not just defend it.
The gap is real money. MediaTek's market capitalization stood near $223 billion on Sept. 15, PitchBook noted. Even after Qualcomm's 4.25% rally that same day, its market cap reached $200.6 billion, according to CompaniesMarketCap, leaving it about $22 billion behind MediaTek.
MediaTek said the Dimensity 9600 Pro is its first mobile processor built on TSMC's 2-nanometer process. Its neural processing unit delivers 51% faster prompt handling for on-device AI models than the prior generation. That lets phones run generative AI tasks without sending data to the cloud.

Interested in Qualcomm Incorporated? Here are five stocks we like better.
Qualcomm trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of just 22, well below rivals like NVIDIA, Broadcom, and AMD, despite its ties to the AI boom.
Analysts, including Rosenblatt Securities with a $235 price target, see upside from Qualcomm's expansion into AI data centers, automotive chips, and on-device AI processing.
Apple's shift to in-house modem chips and a sluggish Android market in China threaten to offset Qualcomm's diversification gains, keeping its consensus rating at Hold.
There's a certain irony in a stock that has just rallied hard still being written off, yet that's exactly where chipmaker Qualcomm Inc. (NASDAQ: QCOM) finds itself right now. After a brutal 44% slide through much of the summer, its shares staged an impressive comeback, climbing around 30% since the start of August.

The artificial intelligence (AI) boom is entering a new phase, and this time, the battle is moving deeper into the data center. It is no longer simply about who can build the fastest AI accelerator. Hyperscalers are scrambling for more compute, faster connectivity, and better power efficiency as AI workloads continue to grow at a breakneck pace. That is opening the door for chipmakers that can deliver customized, energy-efficient solutions at scale.
Qualcomm (QCOM) wants a seat at that table. The company just landed a major multi-generational collaboration with Amazon (AMZN) to supply customized silicon, systems, and related technology for large-scale AI data centers, with a focus on inference. The partnership also extends into high-speed optical connectivity, an increasingly critical piece of the AI infrastructure puzzle.

AI investors are weighing warnings from technology executives about the safety risks posed by the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence. However, some believe that slowing AI development could leave the US behind China and other competitors in the global race. Brad Gerstner, founder and CEO of Altimeter Capital, said on CNBC that he supports AI safety measures but believes some fears are being exaggerated to advance a political agenda.
"I've not talked to a single person in AI who says, full steam ahead, disregard safety," Gerstner said. "It turns out we all care about kids. We all care about the future of the country. We know the massive benefits it offers, but we also want to take the extra time to make sure that we do this safely. But what I didn't like this week is these hyperbolic scare tactics, which I think are hiding behind a political agenda. We learn that all of this catastrophizing about data centers may in fact, have had support from the CCP. Right? So I want a little investigation. Who is behind all of this negativity? Is it coordinated? Right? Where is the money coming from?"
Altimeter's second-quarter 13F filings show that the fund opened new positions in several technology and AI-related companies, including Qualcomm (QCOM) and Micron Technology (MU).
Altimeter bought 1.88 million Qualcomm shares valued at about $347.9 million as of June 30. The position accounted for 3.54% of the fund's reported US equity portfolio. It also acquired 209,520 Micron shares worth roughly $241.8 million, representing 2.46% of the portfolio.

Qualcomm (QCOM) grew revenue just 1.9% over the last twelve months, against a compound pace of about 6.2% a year over five years and 4.5% over three. The quarterly path is worse. Across the last four quarters, year-over-year growth slid from 10.0% to 5.0%, then to declines of 3.5% and 4.0%. That turn to shrinking quarterly sales is the risk to weigh.
Phones Still Bring In About Half The Sales
In fiscal Q3 2026, handset chip revenue was $5.1 billion, about half of the $9.9 billion total. The CEO says unprecedented memory prices, plus supply shortages driven by data center demand, are pulling revenue down across mobile and consumer electronics. Management puts the net effect at a 20% drop in its Android chip revenue in 2026 from 2025.
And Apple Revenue Is Exiting Faster Than Planned
Apple is the second drag. Citing its own supply constraints, Qualcomm said on its fiscal Q3 2026 call that it expects materially lower share in new iPhone launches than its prior 20% estimate. An ****** yst put fiscal 2026 Apple product revenue at about $7.5 billion, and management called that a fair range.

Qualcomm's Amazon agreement gives its data center strategy a major anchor beyond smartphones.
Amazon's warrants are tied to up to $60 billion in potential purchases over a decade, making the deal meaningful but gradual.
Qualcomm's valuation still trails many AI infrastructure peers, but dilution risk and execution timing remain important factors.
Investors continue to seek disciplined strategies to participate in the evolving artificial intelligence (AI) economy without paying inflated multiples for standard graphics hardware. Capital remains focused on businesses positioned to sustain steady enterprise workload expansion while maintaining reasonable valuation metrics.

Qualcomm (QCOM) has spent years telling shareholders it is becoming more than a smartphone chip company. What changed is where the new growth is expected to come from. Two years ago the big non-handset targets were automotive and IoT. Today, the newest leg of the story runs through the data center, and management has already put a number on it.
Qualcomm Once Told You The Laptop Chip Had Redefined Computing
The Snapdragon X Series was the flagship of that older story. Two years ago management said those platforms had redefined personal computing.
Management no longer leads with that story. In the fiscal Q3 2026 call, delivered on July 29, 2026, the PC gets two passing lines: a growing share of design wins in AI-first laptops and Project Solara, a chip-to-cloud platform being built with Microsoft for agent-first enterprise devices. Both are real. Neither carries a revenue figure.

Qualcomm (QCOM) stock rose 3.2% on Sept. 8 after the chipmaker announced a partnership with Amazon (AMZN) focused on customized AI data center silicon. The agreement could generate up to $60 billion in revenue opportunities over the next decade, giving Qualcomm a new growth avenue as revenue related to Apple (AAPL) declines.
Qualcomm is strengthening its position in the fast-expanding artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure market through a multi-year partnership with Amazon. The companies plan to develop customized silicon for large-scale AI data centers. Moreover, the partnership also includes work on optical connectivity technologies, along with solutions designed for future generations of AI infrastructure.

Qualcomm (QCOM) on Tuesday said it has entered into a multi-generation custom chip deal with Amazon (AMZN). The companies say they are also developing networking capabilities and other future data center products.
Qualcomm stock climbed more than 5% on the news. Shares of Amazon were flat.
As part of the arrangement, Qualcomm has issued warrants to Amazon for 25 million shares of the company's common stock at a price of $161.26 per share.
The shares will vest in tranches based on Amazon placing purchase orders and completing those purchases with a total value warrant value of $60 billion.
"Qualcomm is pleased to work with AWS on customized silicon and connectivity solutions, bringing decades of leadership in advanced processing and power-efficient compute, to deliver breakthrough performance and enable the next generation of AI infrastructure," CEO Cristiano Amon said in a statement.

Qualcomm (QCOM) is down 32% over the past three months, and the cause is not a mystery. The smartphone market has contracted as memory prices climbed, and Apple is exiting faster than the company had guided. Management has a credible plan to replace that revenue. The harder question is what the replacement earns.
Qualcomm Is Losing Apple Faster Than It Planned To
By the company's own account, its share in the coming iPhone launch will be materially lower than the 20% it had previously estimated, and Apple product revenue is set to fall roughly 50% from the September quarter to the December quarter. Qualcomm's own supply constraints are part of the reason. A customer exit that was always coming has been pulled forward.
The bigger exposure is the phone business Apple sits inside. QCT handset revenue was $5.1 billion in fiscal Q3 2026, against $9.9 billion of revenue for the company as a whole, so handsets still account for roughly half of what Qualcomm sells. Management sizes the earnings hit from the weaker handset market at more than $1.50 a share for fiscal 2026, with QCT Android revenue down 20% year over year.

Aristotle Capital Management, LLC, an investment management company, released its "Value Equity Fund" Q2 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. The Fund delivered a 4.32% total return in Q2 2026, underperforming the 13.87% gain for the Russell 1000 Value Index and the 15.20% return for the S&P 500, while its 1.99% year-to-date return also lagged the Russell 1000 Value Index's 16.26% and the S&P 500's 10.21%. The Fund attributed the performance gap largely to limited exposure to the AI infrastructure spending boom, noting that the U.S. has about 4,000 existing data centers and nearly 3,000 more planned or under construction, while AI-related demand has created bottlenecks in processors and memory. The letter highlighted the scale of the cycle, with industry cash flows in key AI hardware areas rising sharply, while the Russell 1000 Value Index's top 10 contributors gained an average 182% year to date and accounted for 9.29 percentage points of the index's 16.23% return. Looking ahead, the fund expects investors to eventually reassess the sustainability of current AI infrastructure earnings and valuations. LONDON, Aug 27 (Reuters) - Google has agreed to settle a mass London lawsuit brought on behalf of app developers ‌for £260 million ($353.21 million), according to a deal published on Thursday.
The ‌claim, which was previously valued at just over £1 billion, sought compensation on behalf of developers who sold apps on Google's Play Store in the United Kingdom.
Lawyers for academic Barry Rodger, who led the case, alleged Google had abused its dominant position to prevent developers from distributing apps by ‌alternative means and by charging an unfair commission, usually 30%.
The case was due to go to trial next month at London's Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT), making it the fourth such case against a major tech company since the start of 2025, after similar lawsuits against Apple, Qualcomm and Sony.
But on Thursday, Rodger said he had reached a proposed ‌settlement with Google, subject to the CAT's approval, under which Google made no admission of liability or wrongdoing.

The market is treating NVIDIA like a semiconductor laggard, even as its growth and profit metrics dominate the very peers it's being priced against.
NVIDIA (NVDA)'s stock, trading around $219.74 a share, presents a puzzle. The company trades at 33.4 times earnings, a valuation that looks almost modest next to competitor Advanced Micro Devices, which commands a multiple of 122.9. Yet on the metrics that supposedly drive price, NVIDIA is in a different league, growing revenue at 71% over the last year to AMD's 40%, with operating margins of 64% that dwarf AMD's 15.7%. This isn't a simple one-on-one anomaly; it's a group-wide phenomenon.
The question for investors is stark: Is the market correctly anticipating a slowdown that will bring NVIDIA's premium performance back to the pack, or has it mispriced the leader relative to its peers?
A look across the competitive landscape shows the disconnect. NVIDIA's 71% twelve-month revenue growth and 64% operating margin both rank first among its five-company peer group. The business is delivering at the very top of its class. Yet its valuation, at 33.4 times earnings, ranks fourth out of five, closer to the slow-growing Qualcomm than to high-fliers like Marvell Technology or AMD. The stock's performance reflects this skepticism, with a +22% one-year return that also places it fourth in the group, far behind the triple-digit gains of its more expensive rivals.
The market is effectively paying a premium for the growth stories at AMD and Marvell while applying a discount to the company that is currently delivering the strongest growth and profitability in the entire group. This suggests investors are looking past today's stellar results and pricing in a future problem.

ARM's CEO doubled the AGI CPU demand pipeline to $2 billion, but at 127x forward earnings, the stock earns a HOLD at $284.95.
NVIDIA trades at just 25x forward earnings with 85% revenue growth, making ARM's 127x multiple nearly impossible to justify on fundamentals alone.
The bull case reaches $428 on AGI CPU revenue milestones, while an adverse Qualcomm ruling could drag ARM toward $226.
Act now: the ***** yst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just named his top 10 AI stocks — and Arm didn't make the cut. Grab the names FREE today.
Arm Holdings (NASDAQ:ARM) story is straightforward: a licensing business is turning into a data center silicon business. On the fiscal Q1 2027 call, CEO Rene Haas doubled the customer demand pipeline for the Arm AGI CPU to more than $2 billion across FY2027 and FY2028, up from the $1 billion opportunity flagged a quarter earlier. That is the AI signal driving this call.
