On August 27, AstraZeneca PLC (NYSE:AZN) and Amgen Inc. (NASDAQ:AMGN) scored a shared clinical victory. Positive high-level results from the Phase III CROSSING trial showed that their co-developed severe asthma drug, TEZSPIRE, achieved statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvements across both co-primary endpoints, histologic remission and the frequency/severity of dysphagia, and all key secondary endpoints at week 24 in patients with eosinophilic esophagitis. These benefits were sustained through week 52 across both tested doses, accompanied by a safety profile consistent with its approved indications. While CROSSING highlights their joint R&D success, a closer look at their standalone financial performance reveals distinct growth trajectories.
Both pharmaceutical giants delivered solid Q2 2026 results, but AstraZeneca is showing stronger overall financial momentum. AstraZeneca PLC (NYSE:AZN)'s Q2 revenue increased 6% year over year to $15.38 billion, supported by its Oncology franchise, which grew 18% in H1 to $14.12 billion, and its Rare Disease portfolio, which increased 13%. Core EPS rose 21% to $2.63, beating expectations, while management reaffirmed its full-year 2026 outlook for mid-to-high single-digit revenue growth and low double-digit Core EPS growth.
Amgen Inc. (NASDAQ:AMGN) reported Q2 revenue of $10.1 billion, up 10% year over year, while non-GAAP EPS increased 4% to $6.29. Although its key growth products advanced 26%, mature products faced significant biosimilar pressure, with Prolia revenue declining 32% and XGEVA falling 34%. Amgen nevertheless raised its 2026 revenue guidance midpoint to $39.4 billion.
Overall, AZN holds the financial edge due to stronger EPS growth, broader portfolio momentum, and less exposure to the biosimilar erosion affecting AMGN's mature products.
Amgen's bull case is supported by robust growth in key products, which increased 26%, and $3.5 billion in Q2 free cash flow, providing substantial capital flexibility. Wells Fargo raised its Amgen price target to $435 from $400 on September 4, citing potential upside from HORIZON and pipeline ****** ets such as olpasiran. New Phase III VESALIUS-CV data also showed Repatha reduced the risk of death by 20% in high-risk adults without a prior heart attack or stroke, with heart attack risk reductions emerging as early as six months. However, accelerating biosimilar competition affecting legacy franchises such as Prolia and XGEVA remains a key risk to sustained margin expansion.

A $500,000 balance yields just $20,000 annually at the 4% withdrawal rate, yet still surpasses the median 65+ retirement account balance of $103,202.
Traditional 401(k) withdrawals count as ordinary income and can trigger taxation on up to 85% of Social Security benefits, raising the real cost of each dollar withdrawn.
A paid-off home, a cash reserve of one to two years, and delaying Social Security to capture the roughly 8% annual benefit increase each do more for lifetime income than portfolio size alone.

Half a million dollars in retirement savings may sound modest when headlines are full of seven-figure nest eggs. But measured against what real retirees have actually accumulated, it is a substantial sum. Vanguard's 2026 How America Saves report shows that for participants aged 65 and older, the median account balance was $103,202 in 2025, with an average of $330,186. Transamerica's most recent survey put median Baby Boomer household retirement savings at $270,000. So a reader sitting on $500,000 is ahead of the typical retiree. The real planning question is what that balance can actually deliver in monthly income once you factor in withdrawal math, taxes, and Medicare.

Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), the leading global electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage manufacturer closed at $362.86, up 5.14%. Investors were encouraged by Nevada's permitting of paid robotaxi service as they watched the autonomous ride-hailing rollout progress.
Trading volume reached 58.5 million shares, coming in about 39% above its three-month average of 42.1 million shares. Tesla IPO'd in 2010 and has grown 22,721% since going public.
The S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) closed at 7,674, up 0.43%, while the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) closed at 26,180, also up 0.43%. Among automotive and EV peers, Rivian Automotive (NASDAQ:RIVN) closed at $16.97, up 6.00%, and Ford Motor (NYSE:F) closed at $14.41, up 3.00%, with Tesla drawing extra attention thanks to robotaxi approvals.
Officials announced on Friday that the Nevada Transportation Authority has authorized three autonomous vehicle companies to offer passenger transportation using driverless cars within Clark County, which includes Las Vegas. Tesla has been permitted to operate a fleet of up to 5,000 fully autonomous vehicles in its first year, though it's unlikely the company will deploy that many.
Last week, reports said Tesla was preparing to launch its Cybercab in Austin later this month, beginning with rides for employees. Investors have been anticipating Tesla's fully autonomous ride-hailing fleet, and the stock is reacting to that progress.
In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. If you'd invested $5,000 then, you'd be sitting on $2,815,676 today.*

The market is treating NVIDIA like a semiconductor laggard, even as its growth and profit metrics dominate the very peers it's being priced against.
NVIDIA (NVDA)'s stock, trading around $219.74 a share, presents a puzzle. The company trades at 33.4 times earnings, a valuation that looks almost modest next to competitor Advanced Micro Devices, which commands a multiple of 122.9. Yet on the metrics that supposedly drive price, NVIDIA is in a different league, growing revenue at 71% over the last year to AMD's 40%, with operating margins of 64% that dwarf AMD's 15.7%. This isn't a simple one-on-one anomaly; it's a group-wide phenomenon.
The question for investors is stark: Is the market correctly anticipating a slowdown that will bring NVIDIA's premium performance back to the pack, or has it mispriced the leader relative to its peers?
A look across the competitive landscape shows the disconnect. NVIDIA's 71% twelve-month revenue growth and 64% operating margin both rank first among its five-company peer group. The business is delivering at the very top of its class. Yet its valuation, at 33.4 times earnings, ranks fourth out of five, closer to the slow-growing Qualcomm than to high-fliers like Marvell Technology or AMD. The stock's performance reflects this skepticism, with a +22% one-year return that also places it fourth in the group, far behind the triple-digit gains of its more expensive rivals.
The market is effectively paying a premium for the growth stories at AMD and Marvell while applying a discount to the company that is currently delivering the strongest growth and profitability in the entire group. This suggests investors are looking past today's stellar results and pricing in a future problem.

More than half of Gen Z adults ages 18 to 29 put money they had intended to invest for retirement into sports betting over the past year, according to a recent survey by the investing and financial advice app Betterment. And quite a few — 14% — said they're doing so several times a month.
"When a prediction market or sportsbook starts to feel like a retirement strategy, we have a problem," Betterment CEO Sarah Levy told Yahoo Finance.
"These products are not designed to help them build toward the next decade of wealth, " she said. "The industry has a responsibility to be clear about the difference between participating in a trend and building lasting wealth."
About 26% of Gen Z investors said they treat sports betting as a "deliberate, ongoing part of their long-term financial strategy," according to the survey. That's compared with roughly 14% of millennials, 6% of Gen X, and 1% of baby boomers.
More than 3 in 10 Gen Z adults said they completely avoid sports betting as an investment strategy. For those who do dabble, about a quarter said they considered it "fun money."

During the August 6 episode of CNBC's Mad Money, Jim Cramer pointed to a growing sector rotation as portfolio managers look for innovation outside the mega-cap technology ***** e. He said:
Finally, tech had such a run that portfolio managers want exposure to other sectors of the market that still have innovation. Think of them as non- tech tech stocks. For the… Charitable Trust club, we've been emphasizing Eli Lilly and Johnson & Johnson. And we talked about these… I talked about them at length with Jeff Marks today at our 10:20 call. They both had terrific quarters and deserve to be bought on any weakness.
Cramer's thesis highlights how mega-cap healthcare operators provide defensive shelter with strong dividend profiles and maintain high-growth product pipelines. Cramer further emphasized that innovation in biotechnology is driving tangible financial gains. He said:
Amgen just racked up an excellent quarter. And credit where credit's due, time to accept that Moderna has begun to realize its stream of specialized vaccines for specific illnesses. Just last night, the company, it received FDA approval for its mRNA flu vaccine. Well, there's a reason why the stock's up 83% for the year.
Later in the August 6 episode, a caller asked Cramer about Bristol-Myers Squibb Company (NYSE:BMY) after holding the stock through recent buyout speculation. In response, Cramer remarked:

Greenskeeper **** et Management, an independent firm that specializes in disciplined value investing, recently released its Q2 2026 scorecard. A copy is available to download here. After a slow start to the year, the Fund gained 10.9% in the quarter, lifting its year-to-date return to 1.9%. The rebound came as markets showed signs of rotating away from momentum stocks and toward companies supported by reasonable valuations. Please review the Fund's top five holdings to gain insights into their key selections for 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Greenskeeper **** et Management highlighted Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) as a leading performance contributor. Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG), the parent company of Google, offers various platforms and services, including online search and advertising, cloud solutions, and artificial intelligence. On August 03, 2026, Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) closed at $372.47 per share, reflecting a market capitalization of $4.56 trillion. Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) posted a one-month return of 2.43%, while its shares gained 90.70% over the past 52 weeks.
Greenskeeper **** et Management stated the following regarding Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
"Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG), +23.2%, was our third-best performer in the quarter. After more than two years of market concern that AI chatbots would cannibalize Google's core search business, recent results are proving those fears unfounded. Boosted by AI Overviews and AI mode, Search revenue grew nearly 20% in the most recent quarter. This performance was driven primarily by higher paid-click volume, alongside a modest rise in revenue per click— demonstrating that AI integration is enhancing, rather than displacing, the platform's core value proposition. Alphabet's Cloud division is showing even stronger momentum: its backlog has nearly doubled, while operating margins expanded to 33%, highlighting both robust demand and expanding operating leverage. Meanwhile, management continues to invest heavily in compute infrastructure. With market-leading positions across search, cloud, digital advertising, and AI, we believe Alphabet remains exceptionally well-positioned to earn strong returns on its capex and compound intrinsic value over time."
Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) ranks 7th on our list of 40 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds. According to our database, 201 hedge fund portfolios held Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) at the end of the first quarter, compared to 203 in the previous quarter. In 2025, Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) achieved its first-ever $400 billion annual revenue and in Q1 2026 its consolidated revenue reached $109.9 billion, up 22% or 19% in constant currency. While we acknowledge the potential of Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. Aug 1 (Reuters) - The U.S. Treasury bought yen on Friday to support the battered ******* anese currency, the Financial Times reported, marking Washington's first yen-buying intervention with Tokyo in more than ‌a decade as it languishes near 40-year lows.
The Federal Reserve Bank of New York sold euros for yen on ‌behalf of the Treasury through Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, the FT said, citing people familiar with the matter. The report did not indicate any amounts of yen purchased.
Earlier on Friday, the Treasury informed a number of banks that it might intervene in the yen market and that they should "stand ready for future action," a source familiar with the matter told Reuters.
