New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is facing fresh criticism after taking credit for a reported $104 million increase in delivery worker tips that critics say was made possible by legislation enacted before he took office and will likely only exacerbate cost of living issues in the city.
The criticism comes after Mamdani declared at a press conference Wednesday and in a social media post, "We've put $104 million back in delivery workers' pockets," citing changes to Uber Eats' and DoorDash's apps that made tipping more prominent.
"This is only the beginning," Mamdani wrote.
Those changes stem from a city law approved by the New York City Council before Mamdani became mayor. Former Mayor Eric Adams neither signed nor vetoed the measure, allowing it to become law after 30 days. The rules took effect in January under the Mamdani administration, which implemented and enforced the requirements.

When you register for a P2P service, you start by connecting your bank account, credit card, or digital wallet. Depending on the P2P payment app, you may incur fees when you send money. Other services may charge you fees to transfer funds to your bank account — especially if an international transfer is involved. Many P2P apps, however, offer free payment options for sending cash between friends and family members. Non-expedited domestic bank transfers may be free as well, depending on the app.

Three cryptocurrency investors filed a federal lawsuit against Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) on July 24. They allege they lost a combined $1.8 million in Bitcoin through a fake wallet app listed on the App Store.
The complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. It accuses Apple of failing to adequately review and monitor apps distributed through its platform.
Apple recently overtook Nvidia to become the world's largest public company by market capitalization. Its valuation stood at about $4.989 trillion at the time of writing.

All eyes are on Lane Kiffin going into his first season as LSU head football coach. However, while speaking to reporters at SEC Media Days, he revealed that monitoring his social media accounts won’t yield anything spicy anymore.
Kiffin said that he deleted all social media apps from his phone, initially doing so as a challenge from his son Knox. But like many who have distance themselves from social media, Kiffin realized that he liked being more offline.
“Really, it just started with Knox, my son, was sitting there and he’s like, ‘You’re on social media; I bet you couldn’t get off,’” Kiffin explained, via Baton Rouge radio host Matt Moscona. “If you follow me, if you tell me I can’t do something, that’s really a good way to get me to do it.”
“So I just got off of everything,” he continued. “Got off of it. Don’t even have the apps, so it’s not even like I read it either… I just wanted to show him I could do it. It’s been really interesting as I look back over my life and my journey, a lot of great things have come when I’ve subtracted things out of my life and I’ve eliminated them.”

ARLINGTON — The past week has been a doozy for the Texas Rangers, on and off the field.
They’ve changed streaming providers, switching from Victory+, which the Rangers feared might not last through the season, to BZZR, which is short on apps for all TVs (but working on it, especially Roku). The portion of the fanbase affected by the change is none too happy.
Those fans may have missed that the Rangers didn’t play very well overall in the first four games coming out of the All-Star break at a critical time. The trade deadline is coming Aug. 3, and the Rangers need help in the bullpen and at catcher, and could use a righty-hitting center fielder.
They really need Corey Seager, who is getting better but still with no timeline for his return from the injured list.

"Chrisley Knows Best" star Lindsie Chrisley has broken her silence on her May 2026 DUI arrest on a new episode of her "Coffee Convos" podcast.
The reality star, 36, made headlines earlier this year after she was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, attempting to evade police, reckless driving, and a slew of other charges while driving her car in Georgia.
According to Lindsie Chrisley, she's dealt with mental health struggles over the last year, adding that it's caused many problems in her personal life.
Speaking with MTV veteran Kailyn Lowry on their shared podcast, Lindsie said she takes her ongoing legal woes very seriously. She said that she hasn't been able to comment publicly because she's stayed off social media and deleted all the apps from her phone. "If people are sending me messages, I'm not getting them," she said.
According to TMZ, Lindsie was arrested and booked in jail in Georgia in May 2026 before bonding out the next day. She told the publication that she was pulled over for speeding past a car on a two-lane road after trying to avoid being hit by another car that swerved to avoid an animal.

Right-hander Alex Petrovic grew up in Cypress, Texas, a suburb of Houston, the son of parents who played basketball at Oberlin College. Alex's physical gifts manifested themselves on the baseball diamond rather than the basketball court, and the youngster quickly began standing out on the sandlots around Texas. He attended Concordia Lutheran High School in Tomball, Texas, where he dominated as both a hitter and a pitch, earning TAPPS First Team All-State honors in 2022 and 2023. Inflammation in his right arm kept him off of the mound for the majority of his senior year, and may have cost him a selection in the 2023 MLB Draft; despite solid results, Petrovic was not considered an elite talent, and he ended up going undrafted, leading him to honor his commitment to Auburn University.
His career with the Tigers began inauspiciously, as the inflammation in his arm returned that fall. It calmed down to the point that, when the spring began, the right-hander was able to take the mound for his new team after missing the first three weeks of the season. Appearing in 7 games for Auburn, Petrovic allowed 7 earned runs in 11.0 innings, good for a 5.73 ERA, giving up 15 hits, walking 3, and striking out 17. There is a chance that the right-hander might have improved as the weather continued warming, but Petrovic sustained a stress fracture in his right elbow in early April, ending his season prematurely.
The right-hander had surgery on his elbow, having screws inserted into it, and returned to the mound at Plainsman Park for the 2025 season. Improbably, the exact same thing almost happened a second year in a row. The right-hander appeared in 7 games, starting 5, and posted a 4.34 ERA in 18.2 innings, allowing 13 hits, walking 4, and striking out 25, but once again, an injury on a different spot on his arm sustained in early April ended his season early. His velocity had backed up from the low-90s into the high-80s and his breaking **** did not look as sharp, and it was only a matter of time before something in his arm went off. A draft-eligible sophomore because of his age, Petrovic did not hear his name called in the 2025 MLB Draft.
When his arm felt better later that summer, the right-hander went to a baseball training facility in Lakeland, Florida- the Florida Base ARMory- and worked on making subtle changing his mechanics to put less stress on his arm and elbow and hopefully prevent a third-consecutive season-ending injury in 2026.
The 22-year-old returned to Auburn for his redshirt sophomore season armed with new mechanics and not only was he able to make it through the entire year without an injury, but Petrovic also had a very solid season. His fastball having gained a few ticks from the mechanical changes that were made and his secondary stuff looking sharper, he appeared in 17 games, starting all of them, and posted a 3.21 ERA in 92.2 innings, allowing 70 hits, walking 24, and striking out 92.

July 10 (Reuters) - Apple on Friday sued OpenAI and two former employees, alleging misappropriation of its trade secrets to benefit the ChatGPT-owner's foray into consumer hardware, a dramatic escalation of already simmering tension between the two companies.
The complaint accuses OpenAI of orchestrating a broad effort to systematically acquire and exploit Apple's confidential information through former employees, ‌recruiting practices and supplier relationships to accelerate its push into the consumer hardware business.
"We have no interest in other companies' trade secrets," OpenAI said in a statement. "We remain focused on building innovative technology ‌that empowers people everywhere."
The lawsuit sets up a battle over who will control future AI devices that may not use traditional apps or operating systems — devices which, if successful, would direct consumer attention away from Apple's best-selling iPhone. ******* ysts believe OpenAI is working on a phone or other device of its own.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined to block Texas from enforcing a state law that requires apps stores to verify users' ages and obtain parental consent for minors seeking to download apps or make in-app purchases on mobile phones.
Justice Samuel Alito, in a pair of one-sentence orders, denied petitions by plaintiffs who claim that the Texas App Store Accountability Act violates users' constitutional rights to free speech.
Last month, a three-judge panel from the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the law can take effect. The panel suspended a district court's ruling last December that the law is unconstitutional.
The plaintiffs suing to block the law include the Computer & Communications Industry ***** ociation and Students Engaged in Advancing Texas. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is a defendant in both cases.
Plaintiffs' lawyers argued that the law impermissibly seeks to limit access to content protected by the First Amendment, including news and educational material.

Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) shares traded about 1% lower on Thursday after the European Court of Justice (ECJ) upheld a €4.1 billion ($4.67 billion) antitrust fine against Google over its Android mobile operating system.
The ruling marks the end of Google's legal challenge against the European Commission's 2018 decision, which found the company had abused the dominant position of Android by using pre-installation agreements with smartphone manufacturers to favor its own apps and services.
In a statement, the ECJ said it had dismissed the appeal brought by Google and Alphabet, confirming the penalty as revised by the General Court.
"The Court of Justice dismisses the appeal brought by Google and Alphabet against that judgment of the General Court, thereby confirming the penalty imposed on them, as revised by the General Court, for their anticompetitive practices relating to the Android operating system," the court said.
The original fine of €4.34 billion was reduced to €4.1 billion by the EU's General Court in 2022. Thursday's ruling is final and leaves Google with no further avenue of appeal within the EU court system.

Three major Iranian banks halted card-based services after cyberattacks caused disruption, reported Reuters citing the country's state-owned banking technology provider.
The Informatics Services Corporation said that Bank Melli, Bank Saderat and Bank Tejarat were affected.
