The Mets racked up 18 hits on their way to their third win and series sweep against the Guardians, 13-6. Nolan McLean was good for most of his outing, and when he needed to come out after the fifth inning, the bullpen smothered the Guardians' hitters, allowing two hits and one run.
The first inning was deceptively quiet for the Mets. With two outs, Luis Robert, Jr. sneaked a ground ball into left field for a single, but Carson Benge struck out immediately after that. When McLean took the mound for the bottom of the inning he issued two walks back-to-back, and then allowed a line-drive single to Nathaniel Lowe to load the bases. After this, Angel Martínez managed an RBI single on a grounder to center field that scored Chase DeLauter and José Ramírez. After getting the second out, McLean gave up another single, this one on a fly ball smacked into left field by Petey Halpin. Fortunately, McLean got Patrick Bailey to fly out right after that, and the inning ended with the Guardians leading 2-0.
In the second inning, Marcus Semien responded by bouncing a home run off the top of the fence, slightly confusing the announcers. Next up, Eric Wagaman lined a single into center field, setting up Luis Torrens to drive a two-run home run into right field, stunning new Guardians pitcher Foster Griffin and giving the Mets the lead. McLean continued to struggle slightly with walks, allowing one to Travis Bazzana. Bazzana stole second base after Torrens' throw to second was a bit too high, but he was stranded there when Wagaman dove to stop a ground ball from Ramírez and got it to McLean in time for the third out. The score remained Mets 3, Guardians 2 at the end of the inning.
Bo Bichette walked to lead off the third inning but was caught in a fielder's choice out when Robert grounded to third softly. With Robert on first, Carson Benge smacked an RBI triple off the wall above Halpin's head, scoring Robert. Francisco Alvarez walked as well, and Semien scored Benge on a sac fly into left field for the second out. Wagaman struck out for the third out, but after Nolan McLean retired the batters in order at the bottom of the inning, the score was Mets 5, Guardians 2.
With two outs in the fourth inning, Lindor drove a single into left field, and Bichette doubled on another line drive, sending Lindor to third base. However, Robert flied out to right field to end the half-inning and strand the pair in scoring position. McLean once again worked a 1-2-3 inning. Matt Festa replaced Foster Griffin in the top of the fifth inning and gave up another walk to Alvarez with one out. Semien then rolled a double down the left field line, and Alvarez slid into to third. Jared Young pinch-hit for Wagaman and threaded an RBI single through the infielders into left field, scoring Alvarez. Young then stole second base completely uncontested. However, the next two outs came back-to-back to strand the runners in scoring position again.

T-Mobile is changing how customers finance new devices after previously saying it would scale back free phone deals and device subsidies.
During an earnings call in February, T-Mobile CEO Srini Gopalan revealed that the company is moving away from device subsidies and will rethink its approach to these deals, noting that customers purchase new phones roughly once every three years.
He later doubled down on this plan during an earnings call in July, stating that the company has given consumers 250 reasons to switch to its network, extending beyond free phone offers. Gopalan also warned that customers will soon have to pay more for smartphones due to rising memory chip prices.
"What we're seeing is clearly the memory price increases are resulting in higher prices for smartphones across the board," he said. "Our intention, consistent with what we've said, is not to increase our subsidy levels. That's going to mean that customers will have to pay more. That's just the result of that dynamic."

In the third, Junior Pérez singled, and with two outs, Ryan Galanie crushed his 19th homer of the season (18th with the Knights) to double Charlotte's lead. With this blast, Galanie built on his momentum after being our White Sox Minor League Player of the Week.

But the same study found that 60% of employees feel pressured to use AI to boost productivity, 50% say they rely on it too much, and 39% say that reliance is making them less intelligent. The productivity gain and the human performance cost are arriving simultaneously. Most organizations are only tracking one of them.
An ActivTrak's ***** ysis of 443 million hours of work activity across more than 1,100 organizations found that AI doubled time spent on email and messaging while focused deep work fell by 9%. A Harvard Business Review study published earlier this year found that after AI adoption, workers operated at a faster pace, took on a broader scope of tasks, and extended work into more hours of the day, often without being asked. The tools are generating more activity while depleting the capacity for the high-quality thinking that makes that activity valuable.
When AI compresses timelines, the most visible change is speed, and speed quickly becomes the proxy for performance because it is the most legible output of AI adoption. Gallup's research finds that 65% of employees say AI has improved their productivity, and frequent AI use among managers has doubled from 15% to 30% since 2023. But that growing adoption is producing a widening gap between who benefits and who absorbs the pressure: leaders report the strongest gains, while individual contributors remain the least likely to receive guidance on how to use AI effectively. And 54% of managers say workplace expectations have directly increased due to AI. The bar is rising and the measurement framework is not keeping pace.

BP more than doubled its profit for the second quarter from a year earlier on the back of higher oil and gas prices and stronger refining margins driven by the shock supply disruption in the Middle East.
BP on Tuesday reported an underlying replacement cost (RC) profit, the closest metric to net profit closely watched by ******* ysts, of $5.7 billion for the second quarter, up from $3.2 billion for the previous quarter, and more than doubled from the $2.35 billion for the same period of 2025.

The Royals got on the board first tonight against Joe Ryan. A pair of singles followed by a sac-fly RBI by Salvador Perez got the job done. Then, Michael Massey ripped a double to left-center to make it 2-0, Royals.
The Twins, who struggled against Randy Dobnak the last time they faced him, continued those struggles tonight. They finally got a run in the 4th inning after loading the bases with 1-out, on an Alan Roden sac-fly. Luke Keaschall would ground out to end the threat, however.
In the bottom of the 5th, the Royals, with the help of bad Twins defense, put together a 3-run inning. With 1 out, they got a single and a walk, then Bobby Witt Jr. doubled, scoring two. Witt would move to 3rd as Ryan Kreidler's throw home sailed over Ryan Jeffers' head. Witt then scored on the next at bat, on a grounder to 1st, beating the throw home by Royce Lewis. That gave the Royals a 5-1 lead.
It was a third rough start in a row by Joe Ryan, who exited after getting 1 out in the 6th and walking Isaac Collins. His final line was: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K. His stuff just doesn't seem to be getting him enough strikeouts lately. Kody Funderburk did a good job, cleaning up the 6th inning and tossing a clean 7th as well.

WINDBER, Pa. – Zanesville right-handers Dakota Foltz and Ashton Ansel combined on a four-hit shutout as the Junior Pioneers defeated Schenectady PNA 6-0 Tuesday morning during an All American Amateur Baseball ****** ociation Tournament game at Windber Sports Complex.
Zanesville improved to 1-1 in Pool D play, while Schenectady slipped to 0-2.
Jake Ralph went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored for Zanesville. Peyton Tichenor added two knocks.
Schenectady's Kaden Jones and Noah Kiefer each doubled. Starter Tyler Kimball allowed three unearned runs in five innings. Jackson Dwyer permitted a run in two frames.
Foltz fanned six batters and walked three over seven innings, permitting three hits. Foltz threw 62 of his 109 pitches for strikes. Ansel totaled two strikeouts and two walks over two frames. Ansel tossed 19 of his 38 pitches for strikes.

Linda Blair says her dog rescue remains under control after authorities found 251 animals at her Southern California property. The Exorcist star maintains that paperwork and permit issues, not the dogs' welfare, triggered the investigation. Officials found no signs that the animals were sick or injured. However, the county's review remains active as neighbors question the number of dogs housed at the facility.
Authorities served an investigative warrant at Blair's 2.5-acre property after the kennel's permits reportedly expired in 2023, TMZ reported. The Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning said officials had made 24 attempts to arrange inspections over three years.
Officials counted 251 dogs while checking structures and possible code violations. Law enforcement told the outlet that "no dogs showed signs of illness or injury," and authorities did not remove any animals.
Blair addressed the search in a Facebook video. "I am fine, the animals are fine," she said, describing the dispute as a matter involving paperwork and updated property diagrams. She also said she had been trying to relocate so she could expand her rescue work.
The new information follows an earlier search of Blair's property, which initially focused on a kennel believed to house more than 100 dogs. The latest count more than doubled that estimate.

On a night where your job appears to be on the line, that was not the performance Brewers right-hander Brandon Sproat was needing to have.
Sproat struggled to finish innings once again, getting the first two outs in the 1st, before allowing a single and a walk. Then he put together his first 1-2-3 inning since June 30th, and then the rails promptly fell off.
Sproat got the first two batters out in the 3rd, then allowed back-to-back singles and then a walk to load the bases. Spencer Horwitz promptly doubled to clear the bases and bring home three runs. That was bad enough. Then the 4th inning happened.
A leadoff single from Endy Rodriguez put a runner on. Then as Sproat faced Jacob Gonzalez, he threw a wild pitch, and then threw another wild pitch. Back-to-back wild pitches was enough and before Sproat could get a new baseball, Pat Murphy was out of the dugout and walking towards the mound to pull his starter from the game.
Mid-at-bat, Sproat gets pulled. You don't see that kind of frustration very often.

You may never know in Wrigley, but that doesn't mean you don't know early on. And here that was the case with the ball flying out of the yard right from the get-go in a 10 to 5 defeat against the Cubs, with the Dodgers outmatched offensively.
The first inning alone saw five runs cross the plate, as Matthew Boyd had to contend with one of a pitcher's worst nightmares, seeing one mistake turned into a 3-0 game. Tommy Edman hit a home run, driving in Shohei Ohtani and Andy Pages, who had both reached base on soft contacts.
Any idea the Dodgers had of quickly controlling this game went away just as that first-inning lead came. The Cubs immediately countered with a two-run shot from Seiya Suzuki two batters into their offensive performance. And that would be one of three two-run homers in as many innings that Justin Wrobleski would allow, eventually conceding a fourth one as well.
In the second inning, it was Kevin Alcántara helping the Cubs take the 4-3 lead with the first home run of his big league career. From youth to experience, Carson Kelly then managed to isolate the Dodgers number as his favorite victim, knocking a ninth long ball versus LA. Lastly, in Kyle Tucker's first game with the Cubs, it was a different player facing his former club that did the real damage: Michael Busch's fifth-inning solo shot knocked Wrobleski out of the game.
In still a short sample, Busch is building up quite the resume versus his former team with nearly an extra-base hit a game against them (15 in 16), including five long ******* . A pitcher who had allowed just eight home runs prior to his last start, Wrobleski doubled that mark in the span of two games, with back-to-back appearances allowing four home runs.
