"Our family wants to once again thank everyone who has reached out with prayers, kind messages, and support for Perez. Your compassionate humanity during this heartbreaking time has meant more than words can express," the statement began.
The family continued, "This has been incredibly difficult and emotional for us, made even harder because very little information has been made available to our family. While we continue to wait for further updates, we remain hopeful. We have also been able to confirm that Perez is able to communicate, which has given our family hope."
They concluded, "We respectfully ask for your continued prayers, understanding, and grace as Perez continues to recover. We will share additional updates as we receive confirmed information and are able to do so. For now, we're taking things one step at a time and keeping our focus where it belongs, on Perez and his recovery."

Scott McCarron got to ring the bell on Friday.
McCarron, 61, an 11-time PGA Tour Champions winner, rang the bell at Duke Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, to signify that he is cancer free. Diagnosed March 23 with Diffused Large B cell Lymphoma, he had been undergoing daily radiation for the previous 10 days, making 5-hour roundtrips to his home.
"Thank you to all the doctors and nurses that took great care of me," he wrote in a social media post. "Thank you to all my friends, family and everyone that sent prayers my way. I'm forever grateful. Now back to golf!"
McCarron was diagnosed with Stage Two B-Cell lymphoma after coming down with a sore throat. Fortunately, he took it seriously because a doctor's visit led to a trip to an ear, nose and throat doctor, who suggested a biopsy.
"Most of us are pretty stubborn and don't do anything for a while," he told Golfweek. "As soon as the thing showed up, I said, 'I don't like the looks of it.'"

ESPN has said goodbye to former NFL player Ryan Clark and a slew of other notable talent amid mass layoffs.
Clark reportedly learned of his exit while he was on the air, making the news that much more difficult for him to process.
Ryan Clark broke his silence on his departure earlier today with an inspirational post to X, saying that he was "sending prayers" to the others who were affected as he was.
According to PEOPLE, ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro informed employees at the famed network of upcoming "difficult decisions" that had to be made as part of company-wide layoffs.
"Over the past several months, we've made significant progress integrating the NFL **** ets that we acquired into ESPN," the memo read. "Throughout this process, we have taken the time to carefully evaluate our collective teams, resources and organizational structure to best position us for the future. As a result, we had to make some difficult decisions about job impacts that we will be communicating today."

ESPN took the extremely ungracious step of informing NFL ******* yst Ryan Clark that he was being laid off while on the air. (At least it happened during a break.) Clark has opted to be far more gracious in his first public comment on the move.
"Sending prayers and love to all those laid off today by ESPN," Clark tweeted. "So many of you have poured your life into that company, & I know how you're feeling right now. My hope is as this door closes another opens for you all. God bless!"
It really was a ******* py, amateurish, Mickey Mouse move (which at to the last part technically is on brand). If, as has been reported, the goal was to prevent Clark from finding out about his fate from media reports, that's still better than telling him about it while he was ON THE AIR.
Think about what that does to every ESPN employee who is on the air today, and for the foreseeable future. Logic suggests they won't do it again. But logic goes out the window when the mind wanders about the possibility that what happened to Clark will happen to them.
At least one other person who has been targeted for layoff found out, we're told, from a member of the media and not from ESPN.

Ten people, including local Caribbean musicians, are dead after a plane crashed on the largest island in the Bahamas, local officials said.
According to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA), a Cessna 402 crashed just after 1 p.m. local time on Friday, July 10, after departing Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau.
The aircraft, with Bahamas registration C6-FLX, was en route to San Andros Airport on Andros Island, the AAIA announced in a news release.
The aircraft, operated by Flamingo Air, reportedly "encountered difficulties and crashed into bushes prior to landing," in North Andros, according to the release.
"Response efforts are currently underway, with the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Airport Authority, and emergency medical personnel responding to the accident site," the release continues. "The AAIA extends its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those affected by this tragic accident and keeps all those impacted in its thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

Former Los Angeles Rams cornerback LeRoy Irvin died at the age of 68, according to former Rams teammate and Pro Football Hall of Famer Eric ******* erson.
Irvin and ******* erson shared the field for five years in Los Angeles. In total, the cornerback played 10 seasons and started more than 100 games for the Rams, finishing his career with one year in Detroit.
“Devastated to hear about the passing of my brother, teammate, and Rams legend Leroy Irvin,” ******* erson wrote in an Instagram post.

Trejo's wife, Yanina, and his children, Aaron and Ainhoa, were found dead after a search of more than three days, as reported by Clarin, the largest newspaper in his native Argentina.
Club Sport Maritimo La Guaira, Trejo's club in the Venezuelan Second Division, confirmed the news and offered its support on its Twitter/X accounts.

The American doctor who contracted Ebola while working on a humanitarian mission in Congo has returned to the United States and said he's feeling well after recovering from the potentially deadly disease.
Dr. Peter Stafford, his wife, Rebekah Stafford, and their four children all arrived safely on Monday, according to Serge, a Pennsylvania-based Christian missions organization. Stafford has been Ebola-free since May 30, the organization said.
"I am filled with gratitude to God for preserving my life, to all those who prayed on my behalf, and to the many medical providers who cared for me," Stafford said in a statement. "I am feeling well and thankful to be reunited with Rebekah and the kids. Our prayers continue for those in Congo who are facing this devastating epidemic and for the ongoing efforts to control the disease."
Other missionaries and their families who were serving in Congo alongside Stafford have also been released from care and monitoring and have returned to the U.S., Serge said.
Stafford was working with the missionary group in Congo when he contracted the virus last month. He was evacuated to a hospital in Berlin to receive care on May 20 and was discharged on June 6, according to Serge. His wife, also a doctor volunteering with the organization, and their four children were also evacuated and quarantined.

A frightening tragedy involving a private jet connected to former St. Louis Cardinals MLB star Yadier Molina unfolded on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of two crew members. Molina, 43, shared the heartbreaking news on social media, revealing that the Gulfstream G200 Galaxy aircraft was on its way to Texas to pick up family members and friends when disaster struck.

Kentucky announced the death of redshirt freshman football player Nicholas Smith through its X account on Monday. A defensive lineman out of Loganville, Georgia, Smith was 20 years old.
In a statement released through his social media, Wildcats coach Will Stein spoke about Smith’s death.
