STUARTS DRAFT — Stuarts Draft swept Waynesboro in Shenandoah District volleyball Thursday, Sept. 10. Draft won 25-12, 25-9, 25-12.
Addyson Dameron had 11 ******* ists and five digs for the Cougars in the win. Hazel Seibert added five ******* ists and an ace. Draft's Addy Coyner had seven kills, six digs and three aces, while Lily May had seven kills. Serenity Hamric finished with six aces and seven digs for the Cougars.
"It wasn't so much about stats tonight, but about communication," Stuarts Draft coach Jess DeWitt said. "Especially in this environment. Our home games haven't been as loud as they could be so we're making sure we're communicating on our end and bringing our own energy no matter what the score is and no matter what the gym environment is."
Ella ******* led Waynesboro with four kills and a pair of blocks. Bristol Slagle had seven digs for the Little Giants.
Fort Defiance got 12 kills from Livia Clinedinst in a 25-14, 25-14, 25-19 win over Rockbridge County Sept. 10 in Shenandoah District volleyball.

Outdoor high school volleyball was played in Greater Lansing for the first time on Thursday, Aug. 20 when Lansing Catholic hosted the Volley Turf Takeover at Cougar Stadium. The event was inspired by East Grand Rapids, which has hosted outdoor volleyball games at its football stadium the last three seasons.
Williamston recorded a four-set win over Portland in the opener, winning by scores of 25-21, 17-25, 27-25 and 26-24. Lansing Catholic recorded a four-set victory over DeWitt in the finale.

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) - Four area high school volleyball teams got their season started in a unique way on Thursday night, playing outdoor matches on Lansing Catholic's football field as part of the first annual "Volleyturf Takeover."
The concept of outdoor volleyball matches has grown in popularity ever since the Nebraska Cornhuskers drew 92,000 people to an outdoor volleyball match at Memorial Stadium in 2023.
Similar events have popped up around the country in recent years, including the "Rally on Reed's" at East Grand Rapids High School in West Michigan.
But Thursday night's event was the first time the concept has been tried in the Lansing area, and strong crowds came out to support two matches, Portland vs. Williamston and DeWitt vs. Lansing Catholic.
Williamston defeated Portland 3-1 in the first match, while Lansing Catholic topped DeWitt _-_ in the nightcap.

Jill Marlan has heard about the success East Grand Rapids has had with its outdoor volleyball event at its turf football stadium in recent years.
That event and seeing things like the college outdoor volleyball game hosted by Nebraska in 2023 that set attendance records inspired Marlan to want to do something similar in Lansing.
So Marlan did her research and talked with the leadership at Lansing Catholic about the possibility of the event taking place locally. And her work over the last year and a half has led to Lansing Catholic planning to host what is being called the Volley Turf Takeover on Thursday, Aug. 20, at Cougar Stadium.
The event will feature a varsity volleyball doubleheader that begins at 5 p.m. with a matchup between Williamston and Portland followed by DeWitt facing Lansing Catholic at 7 p.m.
"I just think volleyball is trending right now and one of the fastest growing women's sports and (one of) the most watched women's sports right now so I'm just really excited to bring this to the Capital City," said Marlan, whose daughter, Leighton, is a senior on the Lansing Catholic team.

Oklo Inc. (NYSE:OKLO) just proved it can build a nuclear reactor as fast as it promised. On August 6, the company announced its Groves Isotope Test Reactor in Lockhart, Texas, achieved first criticality, a controlled, self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction, less than a year after groundbreaking. It's the first project under the US Department of Energy's Reactor Pilot Program to reach criticality on private land from a greenfield site, and Oklo says it may be the fastest privately funded, privately sited reactor build in history.
CEO Jacob DeWitte called it "an incredible milestone for our team," noting Oklo built Groves from raw land, handled the civil excavation and construction itself, and manufactured or procured every component, including fuel, in-house. On the company's August 7 earnings call, management put the timeline at under 11 months from greenfield to criticality. Groves is meant to anchor Oklo's isotope business, supplying materials for healthcare, industry, research, ******* e, and national security, with revenue expected to begin in the first half of 2027 out of a commercial Idaho radiochemistry lab.
Management says the engineering practices, training programs, and commissioning experience from Groves should reduce execution risk across the company's future isotope, powerhouse, and fuel cycle projects. The balance sheet backs that ambition, with $3 billion in cash and marketable securities on hand after Oklo raised $1.9 billion in 2026 through its at-the-market programs. The broader pipeline kept moving too, with Aurora-INL site excavation nearly complete and a Kiewit memorandum of understanding advancing the 1.2-gigawatt Ohio Power Campus that will supply Meta. Shares jumped more than 10% on August 7, the day after the update, coinciding with the earnings report.
The milestone came alongside a bigger bill. Oklo reported a net loss of $81.6 million for the quarter, with an operating loss of $124.2 million, and the company still has no forward price-to-earnings ratio because it isn't yet profitable. Management raised its 2026 operating cash flow guidance to $120 million to $150 million, up from $80 million to $100 million, and lifted capital expenditure guidance to $400 million to $500 million from $350 million to $450 million, both tied to accelerated procurement for Aurora-INL and opportunistic fuel purchases. Groves itself is also a test reactor for isotopes, not Oklo's commercial power business. The Aurora-INL project that would validate the company's powerhouse platform isn't targeted to start up until 2028, and the first phase of the Aurora-Ohio powerhouse meant to supply Meta's data centers isn't expected until early 2030.

Speaking on "Saturday in America," Ryan DeWitt, Wade Lytal and Cole Naylor shared how their daughters' deep-rooted faith has sustained them through tragedy. DeWitt and Lytal said they found journals their daughters left behind filled with Bible verses, prayers and messages to God, bringing them comfort as they grieved.
"We knew that she was deeply rooted in her faith, but she wasn't outward about it or braggadocios about it. She just felt it. She felt very deeply," Ryan DeWitt said of his daughter Molly, who was 9 when she died in the floods.
"She just had the biggest heart, and we taught her as much as we could, but there was certainly something else at play, and that was her faith, and it was comforting. As difficult as those days were and still are, it's comforting to know how close she was to God."
