MANAMA, Bahrain - The looming possibility of U.S. strikes on Iran has been met with weary nervousness in the Persian Gulf, as Gulf officials double down on efforts to break through a U.S.-Iran impasse that they know will leave their region vulnerable.
Publicly and privately, leaders in Persian Gulf nations, which bore the brunt of Iranian retaliation because they are home to U.S. bases, are calling for de-escalation as concerns about President Donald Trump's war plans grow. Mediators from Qatar arrived in Tehran on Friday as part of the efforts to negotiate an end to the war, according to a person briefed on the talks, who described the trip as a "last-ditch effort to broker an interim deal between Iran and the U.S." that was happening "in coordination with the U.S."
Subscribe to The Post Most newsletter for the most important and interesting stories from The Washington Post.
Trump has seemed open to a deal - but also to resuming strikes, according to a separate official briefed on the talks, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation. Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and envoy, have been pushing for a deal, the official added, as others - including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth - appear opposed to it.
"The next two days will be crucial in determining how the situation unfolds," said an Iranian official, who like some others interviewed for this story spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation. The Americans, they added, are "seeking a positive breakthrough" ahead of the midterm elections.

The night Yaxel Lendeborg declared he'd "lost all respect" for Luka Dončić, agent Ron Shade and personal trainer Aaron Johnson were at the Warriors' season opener in Los Angeles and sprang into action. They went to talk with him.
Mentor Josh Lane followed up later that night. The former director of player relations at the University of Alabama Birmingham was momentarily concerned. Maybe he shouldn't have said that; it was his first NBA game, after all. So Lane texted Lendeborg something in the vein of: Man, what?
"We know when we can kinda talk him out of different things, and then we know there's certain things that he's just convicted on," Lane said. "That was one of those things he was just convicted on. Like, 'Man, I said what I said.'"
Those around Lendeborg have accepted that this is who he is, and to try to get him second-guessing himself would be the worst outcome. This is all part of the same package, an 18-year-old kid in a 24-year-old's body, as Lane put it. Lendeborg is driving through some of the best players in the world with abandon, and doing it with an awareness of his own faults that is endearing him to the rest of Golden State's locker room.
The honesty and the personality, though, mean he's taken the NBA by viral storm. He went after Dončić after Game 1 and defended his words later. Then, after dropping 31 points against the Nuggets in Golden State's first win Monday night, Lendeborg said he "would've cried" if the Warriors lost again. On Wednesday night in Minnesota, he pointed at himself for seven turnovers while also saying an aggressive Timberwolves team wasn't playing "real defense."

Ja Morant's first game against Grizzlies takes painful turn after Trail Blazers star exits originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Ja Morant's first game against the Memphis Grizzlies was always going to attract attention. The former face of the franchise spent seven seasons in Memphis, developed into one of the NBA's most electrifying guards and became one of basketball's most recognizable personalities.
His departure in June marked a significant change for both Morant and the organization that selected him with the second overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.
Thursday night provided the first opportunity for the two sides to face each other.
Unfortunately for Morant, the reunion did not end the way he hoped. The Portland Trail Blazers guard exited with a left hamstring injury during the fourth quarter of a 124-103 loss to Memphis.

Titans head coach Robert Saleh says his team will not hold a fire sale ahead of the trade deadline. But the offer they got from the Bears for defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons was too good to pass up.
The Bears traded their next two first-round draft picks to the ****** ans for Simmons, and Saleh said that a team in the ****** ans' position couldn't realistically have passed that up.
"No one's shopping any of our guys, but like I told our guys, when you don't close out games, and you're standing here at 1-6, teams are going to start fishing," Saleh said. "And eventually a team threw a hook big enough that I don't think any of us could've said no to."
Saleh said he considers Simmons "by far" the best defensive tackle in the NFL and hates to see him go.
"It's tough. Jeff is an elite football player and he's an even better person," Saleh said. "He's an elite leader. I've been outspoken on that. It sucks. Everything about it sucks. Unfortunately, necessary."

CLEVELAND — Jose Ramirez rescued the Guardians in the American League Division Series with a tremendous three-game run to lift Cleveland to the ALCS, but with their playoff journey coming to an end all the focus turns to an injury that hamstrung him for the second half of the season.
Ramirez underwent hamate bone surgery in mid-June and returned to the lineup July 22, but he was struggling to be as productive while playing through the left wrist/hand issue. It can often be difficult for hitters to fully return to form in the aftermath of a hamate bone surgery.
His season numbers had already been a bit down from his career averages, but after the procedure he hit just .229 with a .598 OPS over the final 53 games, a stretch that included only two home runs, as his power seemed to be sapped.
It was painfully clear Ramirez was playing while hurt and the procedure was having a negative impact. It was also unlikely he'd do further damage, and the Guardians appreciated anything the star third baseman might be able to give them. A one-handed Ramirez is still a better sight in the everyday lineup than calling someone off the bench, especially as he insisted to play every day.
"I mean, obviously, it took a toll on him," said Guardians manager Stephen Vogt, who also reiterated his commitment to Cleveland while some rumors about the Seattle Mariners had stated to run rampant. "He was out there giving us everything he had. He wasn't playing at 100 percent, but that never changed his demeanor or the way he went about his business. And I think that just speaks to who he is as a person and a baseball player.

Could the Washington Commanders get star left tackle Laremy Tunsil back this season? A recent social media post from Tunsil gave Washington fans a glimmer of hope that one of the league's best offensive linemen could return before the end of the season.
Tunsil, who signed a two-year extension in the offseason, once again became the NFL's highest-paid offensive lineman, tore his triceps during a training camp practice on Aug. 8. It was a devastating blow for Tunsil personally and for the Commanders. Most believed Tunsil would miss most, if not all, of the upcoming 2026 regular season.
At 1-4-1, Washington is coming off its bye week and hosts the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night. Despite a rough start, the Commanders remain firmly in the NFC East mix. Could a few Washington wins push Tunsil to return sooner than anticipated?
First, here's the social media post that got everyone talking this week.
It's been nearly three months since Tunsil's triceps surgery. The injury usually keeps players out for 4-6 months, with offensive linemen often on the higher end because of the strenuous nature of the position. With Tunsil's social media post, head coach Dan Quinn was asked about his star left tackle.

Smriti Mandhana has revealed that former India captain MS Dhoni personally congratulated her after the Indian women's team lifted their maiden ODI World Cup ***** le in November 2025.

Speaking at an event featuring Dhoni, Mandhana recalled receiving a WhatsApp message from the legendary cricketer following India's historic triumph. She admitted that the gesture made her particularly happy, knowing that Dhoni is not someone who uses his phone frequently.

"He actually did send me a message after the World Cup win. I know he does not use his phone a lot. I was very happy that he used WhatsApp to congratulate all of us," Mandhana said.

Host Harsha Bhogle then asked Mandhana whether she had saved Dhoni's number.

"I did have his number," she replied.

Dhoni, meanwhile, offered an interesting explanation for choosing Mandhana as the recipient of his message. He revealed that she was the only member of the Indian women's team whose contact number he had saved.

"I did not know anyone else's (number) from the team. I wanted the message to go through. We had just shot (a commercial) before that. I thought, 'Let me send a message to Smriti' and I mentioned, 'Please wish everyone who is part of the team," Dhoni said.

India created history on November 2, 2025, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in Navi Mumbai to win their first-ever Women's ODI World Cup. The triumph ended the team's long wait for an ICC ***** le.

Batting first in the final, India posted 298/7, with Shafali Verma leading the charge with 87 runs and Deepti Sharma contributing 58. Deepti then delivered with the ball, taking five wickets as South Africa were dismissed for 246 despite a century from Laura Wolvaardt.

Will Panthers make a trade to fix banged-up cornerback room? Dave Canales weighs in appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Carolina Panthers have a growing problem in their secondary. Head coach Dave Canales, though, is not ready to reveal whether the team will seek outside help before the NFL trade deadline. Following Thursday night's 27-19 loss to the Green Bay Packers, Canales addressed the possibility of a roster move. He also pointed to an internal option who could soon get his opportunity. Following his historic Ballon d'Or triumph, the conversation around Harry Kane's achievements has reached another level, with the UK Prime Minister's office being asked whether the England captain could receive one of the country's highest honors.
Per The Independent (via iMiaSanMia), a spokesperson responded with the following:
"On your question about a knighthood, I think everyone would agree, Harry Kane has given an enormous amount to English football, and this is a very special moment for him in the country, but as ever, I'm not going to pre-empt the honors process."
While there is no confirmation just yet, the response certainly recognizes the significance of Kane's achievements for English football.
From captaining England to a major international final to becoming one of the most prolific strikers of his generation, Kane has built a remarkable legacy. Now, after reaching the summit of individual football honors, could a knighthood be the next chapter?

Meghan Markle's cryptic "new adventures" message in As Ever's holiday catalog raised eyebrows. Recently, she wrote a personal letter while introducing the holiday collection of her lifestyle brand. In the catalog, she hinted at the transition of the Sussexes from California to the U.K. a bit earlier than autumn. For those unversed, Prince Harry and Markle moved back to his home country with their family in late August.
Meghan Markle wrote an "autumn of new adventures" message in As Ever's holiday catalog. This sparked questions about whether she was referring to her move to the U.K. a bit earlier than the autumn season. "This year has reminded me how much joy can be found in the moments that make up a life," the ******* ss of Sussex wrote (via PEOPLE).
Furthermore, she listed small and big things that brought her happiness. From "evening snuggles" with her kids to "travel and adventure" and building her business, Markle has had a wonderful year so far. Her next line, then, hinted at the Sussexes' transition from California to the U.K.
She wrote, "A summer filled with laughter, wine and melting ice cream cones, followed by an autumn of new adventures." While she spent summer with her family in Montecito, they returned to Prince Harry's homeland on August 26. Their sudden decision shocked everyone.
Despite receiving criticism since their return, Markle mentioned in her letter her "new adventures." She wrote, "All of it has mattered. All of it has felt meaningful." Furthermore, Markle's letter introduced As Ever's new holiday collection. The lifestyle brand seemed to have expanded in the U.K. market now.

Arsenal have suffered a significant setback in their efforts to protect teenage sensation Max Dowman after an independent commission dismissed their appeal against his recent red card. The 16-year-old attacker was sent off during a frustrating Carabao Cup evening for the Gunners, and the club's attempt to overturn the decision has officially fallen flat.
The 16-year-old was given his marching orders in the 85th minute of ******* nal's Carabao Cup tie against Fleetwood Town. The late dismissal followed a heavy challenge from Harrison Neal, with the teenager reacting poorly and kicking out at his opponent.
Mikel Arteta's side ultimately exited the competition on penalties following a tense 1-1 draw. Hoping to spare their academy star a lengthy domestic suspension, the north London club formally challenged the referee's decision on grounds of wrongful dismissal and excessive punishment.
Those hopes were quickly dashed when the Football ******* ociation shut down ******* nal's attempts to clear the youngster's name. Taking to X on Thursday, an FA spokesperson released a statement confirming that the original on-field decision would be upheld by an independent panel.
"An independent Regulatory Commission has dismissed claims of both wrongful dismissal and excessive punishment for Max Dowman," the governing body announced.

Collin ***** ton has already made his mark on the Los Angeles Lakers in just four games with them this season. He's averaging 12 points in 17.8 minutes a game this season, but his impact has gone beyond his numbers.
He has been an igniter for them off the bench thanks to his ability to get buckets, handle the ball, create pace and get others involved. He has also sparked them defensively with his relentless pressure on the ball and his willingness to shadow opposing ball-handlers up and down the court. The guard has helped force turnovers, even when he hasn't been credited with a steal.
Coach JJ Redick said after Sunday's 132-123 win over the Utah Jazz that ***** ton has a "level of insanity" to him that helps the team. ***** ton explained after Wednesday's 16-point victory over the Los Angeles Clippers that he takes on a special mindset when he is on the court.
"Honestly, I would say when I step into one of those lines, it's us against them," ***** ton said. "I'm going to be doing whatever my team needs. For me, I feel like I turn into a different person when it's time to go. And I think my teammates know that. So they try to talk to me a little bit, but they know I'm in the zone and ready to go to war. And that's how I look at it. Whenever I step into those lines, it's wartime."
Off the court, ***** ton seems like an easy-going man who radiates a positive attitude of gratitude. On the court, he is ultra-aggressive, and that type of on-court attitude can be very contagious. This season's Lakers roster boasts several players who have a can-do spirit and seem willing to embrace their specific roles for the good of the team.

In the pre-match polling ahead of our game against Liverpool in the fourth round of the League Cup this week, the one player that nearly everyone agreed should start was Estêvão. Almost exactly 96 per cent of voters wanted to see the 19-year-old out there for the Blues.
The other four might have been all the votes from Xabi Alonso.
The Chelsea manager appears to be the only person who does not seem to rate the 19-year-old, who has been given just 47 minutes of competitive action in the Premier League across six cameos, only one of which was longer than ten minutes. He's started just two games, our previous two games in the League Cup, though was hauled off at half-time in the second of those, of our third round match against Leeds United.
Yesterday, Carlo Ancelotti once again called him up to the Brazil squad. Uncle Carlo has made his fair share of questionable choices of late (like not taking João Pedro to the World Cup), but he's been consistent in his belief in Estêvão.
So what's Alonso's deal? The bossman tried to explain his thinking when asked about it in the post-match press conference, but he didn't really say anything that would suddenly justify the kid's complete lack of involvement.

Count Jake LaCava among the New Mexico United players who figures to have less of a strenuous weekend.
And it has little to do with what could happen on the pitch in the club's Western Conference quarterfinal playoff match against rival Phoenix Rising FC at 4 p.m. Sunday. It's more so about what New Mexico will — or won't, rather — be doing beforehand to get there.
No traveling to the airport. No getting on a plane. Just a short drive to Isotopes Park.
"I'm personally afraid of flying," the defender said Thursday. "... I sit there and grip on for dear life, and pray for a landing. … So it takes a lot of stress off me."
Such is the benefit of being the No. 1 seed in the West and the home-field advantage that comes with it, something United secured with last Saturday's 1-0 win at El Paso Locomotive FC in the regular-season finale on midfielder Valentin Noël's fourth-minute stoppage-time goal.

Pat McAfee did not enjoy his time in Utah last weekend as "College GameDay" was in Salt Lake City for the Utes' win over the Houston Cougars. The day before the broadcast the college shared a social media post with students saying things about McAfee that made him fear for his safety and alluded to the ****** assination of Charlie Kirk. He later said that he was advised to wear a bulletproof vest.
One person who does not feel any sympathy for McAfee is Michelle Beadle, the former ESPN personality who currently hosts "Run It Back" on FanDuel TV. Beadle appeared on Thursday's episode of "The Dan Le Batard Show" and was asked to weigh in on McAfee's week.
Beadle made the case that no woman in media could be as "soft" as McAfee and insisted that she was "enjoying every single second" of the fallout this week.
MORE: Pat McAfee 'always paranoid,' had Barstool co-workers 'walking on eggshells'
"Just want to remind all your viewers, your listeners, everyone who is fans of you guys… We are constantly told as women that we're hysterical, we're too emotional, we can't handle things," said Beadle. "I can't tell you how many death and rape threats I've gotten via social media in the last, I don't know, since 2009 when we got on Twitter originally. I could never be that soft. Never. This has been one of the softest, and we've seen quite a few from some of the people at the top of this food pyramid of sports media… one of the softest reactions to something that was so ridiculously unserious."

I reached out to the folks at Black Shoe Diaries to talk about this weekend's game between their Nittany Lions and our Purdue Boilermakers. They were kind enough to respond with some informative answers to my questions. Make sure to go check them out.
Penn State has not won a Big Ten game yet this year. The schedule to start the year has turned out to be a lot tougher than most people probably thought going in. Given the turnover at the top, what was expected of Penn State by fans coming into this season?
I predicted a 9-3 season. Some others on our site were at least mentioning the word playoff in the offseason. Personally, I thought Penn State would have enough experience with Matt Campbell's system considering that there would be so much continuity with so many players making the move from Iowa State. A lot of that optimism was tied to the schedule. Unlike 2025 where Penn State jumped right into the deep end with a showdown against Oregon in conference play, this year seemed like it would give some runway for the Lions to work things out before a Whiteout matchup against USC. That seemed to be the plan until halftime of the Wisconsin game. From that 17-0 lead against the Badgers, the Lions have struggled mightily.
Three of the four Big Ten losses have come by 8 or fewer points. Is this a situation where Penn State may be 0-4 but they could very easily be 3-1? I guess the crux of my question is, is Penn State better than their record reflects?
I think it should be at least 1-3. The Wisconsin loss was egregious. Penn State led from the start. They could never quite put away the Badgers, had to settle for field goals, committed a brutal turnover, and then allowed a couple of long conversions in the loss. This team isn't as talented as last year's Penn State team, but there are some similarities. They've had second half leads in three of the four losses, just as last year's Penn State team lost fourth quarter/overtime leads to Oregon, Indiana, Iowa, and Northwestern.

Ohio State will travel to Southern California to take on USC for the first time since the Trojans joined the Big Ten on Saturday. It's a pivotal game for both teams, with USC needing a win to stay within arm's reach of the conference ****** le and stay in the running for a College Football Playoff spot. The Buckeyes have those goals also in mind but more in the driver's seat, a place they'd rather not relinquish.
USC head coach Lincoln Riley knows the challenge ahead of him and his team with the No. 2-ranked squad coming to the Coliseum, and he met with his local media on Thursday to preview what he saw from the Scarlet and Gray. We like to watch and listen to the opposing head coaches before and after each matchup with the Buckeyes, and Riley had plenty of compliments for OSU.
Riley discussed the great player receiver Jeremiah Smith is, the skill of the personnel, defensive coordinator Matt Patricia's fingerprints on the defense, and more. You can catch the entire press conference below thanks to the USCAthletics YouTube Channel.

Jaylen Brown had plenty to say about basketball during his conversation with Daniel Radcliffe. The more interesting question, however, concerned how much power he plans to give everyone who talks about him.
Across discussions about personal recognition, public criticism, and Harry Potter, the Philadelphia 76ers forward returned to a consistent idea: Other people can judge him, but he gets to decide which judgments deserve his attention.
That distinction gave their October 29 podcast appearance substance beyond the unexpected pairing. Brown offered an approach to ambition that leaves room for achievement without making approval the ultimate destination.

We always need to remember that actors are not the characters they portray, no matter how well they sell the role. They're just acting, after all, not showing their true colors. So finding out an actor that normally plays villains is actually a decent person shouldn't be surprising.
And no, it isn't surprising, but it is incredibly funny. There may be something to someone needing to be nice and empathic enough to understand how evil someone can be. These are the actors that are often typecasted as villains, while being incredibly decent persons themselves.

The rich bronze palette added unexpected depth and warmth that harmonized beautifully with her golden-blonde hair and glowing skin.

Phoebe Dynevor became internationally famous through Bridgerton, and that sudden success also brought increased attention to her personal life. The British actress has experienced everything from relatively private relationships to a highly publicized romance followed by photographers and tabloids. Over time, however, Dynevor has become increasingly careful about separating her career from her relationships. Her romantic history has included actors and figures outside the entertainment spotlight, but her relationship with Cameron Fuller ultimately became the most significant chapter. After beginning their romance in 2023, the couple became engaged and later married.
Before Bridgerton transformed her public profile, Dynevor was linked to several men, including British actor Sean Teale and executive Simon Merrill. These relationships attracted comparatively limited attention, partly because they occurred before she became internationally recognizable as Daphne Bridgerton. The success of the Netflix period drama dramatically changed the amount of interest surrounding her life away from the screen.
That became especially clear in 2021, when Dynevor dated American comedian Pete Davidson. Their relationship generated intense media attention as the pair were photographed together and followed by celebrity publications. Dynevor later reflected on the experience of suddenly having strangers interested in something she considered an ordinary part of being a young woman. The relationship ended after several months, with their demanding schedules and distance widely reported as challenges.
A quieter chapter began when Dynevor was linked to actor and producer Cameron Fuller in 2023. The pair initially kept much of their relationship away from public attention, although they gradually began appearing together at events. Fuller comes from an entertainment industry family and has worked both in front of and behind the camera.
Their relationship reached another milestone in 2024. Dynevor attended the Met Gala wearing a pale pink Victoria Beckham gown and revealed a diamond ring on her left hand, bringing widespread attention to their engagement. Fuller and Dynevor largely continued their low key approach afterward rather than turning their wedding preparations into a constant public storyline.

Filming a wilderness survival thriller also gave him a fresh perspective on navigating personal upheaval, rebuilding his footing, and taking life one small victory at a time.

"Listen, I have got a lot of colleagues who I think are probably interested in running for president, and I've heard everyone say, 'You can't have this person or that person,'" the governor told NBC News' "Meet the Press."
"I would put my money on any Democratic governor in the country against [Vice President] JD Vance or [Secretary of State] Marco Rubio in 2028," she added, pointing to two Republicans widely expected to run for president in two years.
Asked directly whether a woman could be the best choice to beat a potential GOP presidential nominee in 2028, Whitmer simply said, "I do."
In 2025, Obama said in public remarks: "As we saw in this past election, sadly, we ain't ready. That's why I'm like, don't even look at me about running, because you all are lying. You're not ready for a woman. You are not."

Former Rep. Mary Peltola is rescheduling several upcoming campaign events after she and her family sustained "minor" injuries in a car crash, her campaign announced Sunday.
"Mary and her family sustained minor injuries but are in good spirits. Unfortunately, per the advice of medical professionals, Mary's upcoming events in Fairbanks and Bethel will be rescheduled for later in the week as she takes time to recover," Peltola campaign manager Cheryl Bruce said in a statement.
"Mary is disappointed that the accident is delaying the start of her Alaska Always Tour, and she is eager to get back on the campaign trail to speak directly with Alaskans about her plan to take on the rigged system and lower costs for working families," Bruce added.
Peltola was en route to the Alaska Federation of Natives' annual banquet Saturday when a vehicle transporting the candidate and her family was struck by another driver, according to the campaign. A spokesperson for the campaign said they had no reason to believe the accident had been politically motivated.
The police department in Anchorage confirmed Sunday that a collision involving three vehicles occurred on evening and those involved sustained "non-life threatening injuries."

Kimberly Guilfoyle has lost her ambassador job, but her name still carries a six-figure price tag on the speaking circuit. The former Fox News personality is listed for appearances costing between $50,000 and $100,000 after she left as U.S. ambassador to Greece amid allegations of financial misconduct, which she denies. Whether anyone is paying those rates is another question. The listing offers a glimpse of her potential earning power, but it doesn't show that she's booked a single six-figure engagement.

According to her Speaker Booking Agency profile, Guilfoyle is available for speaking engagements, corporate appearances, virtual events, moderated discussions, and meet-and-greets. The page displays a speaking-fee range of $50,000 to $100,000 and lists West Palm Beach, Florida, as her departure point.
That puts the advertised upper limit for one appearance at the same dollar figure as the American Express payment at the center of the controversy surrounding her diplomatic career. The two amounts concern separate matters. One is a public booking estimate, while the other involves disputed allegations about a donor's financial dealings with her.
