Teledyne is paying a large premium for a smaller X-ray components maker just as Varex posted a genuine earnings beat of its own. Is Teledyne buying real, complementary technology at a fair long-term price, or paying a steep premium right as Varex's turnaround was already starting to work?
CEO Robert Mehrabian said the companies serve similar customers with "uniquely complementary" products and minimal overlap. He noted Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY) doesn't make X-ray detectors suited for high-radiation environments like oncology the way Varex does. Both boards unanimously approved the deal, which is expected to close in early 2027.
Nearly a 50% one-day jump in Varex's stock shows the market sees this as a rich price for Teledyne to pay. Integrating Varex's X-ray business, which serves medical, security, and industrial markets, adds real complexity to Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY)'s existing operations.
CEO Sunny Sanyal said the deal marks "an exciting new chapter," giving Varex Imaging Corporation (NASDAQ:VREX) access to Teledyne's resources to accelerate use of its imaging technology. Varex also posted third-quarter adjusted profit of 31 cents a share, 10 cents ahead of **** yst estimates, after recovering tariff-related costs and generating $21 million in operating cash flow. It shows the business was already improving before the deal was announced.

Davis played receptionist Dawn Tinsley in the original British version of the sitcom, while Fischer played her U.S. counterpart, Pam Beesly, in the NBC adaptation.
In a post on Instagram, Davis said that she was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer a year and a half ago. She said the cancer is incurable and that it is "too late for chemo."

New statewide heat safety requirements for University Interscholastic League (UIL) member schools have officially taken effect, marking one of the most significant changes to outdoor athletic and marching band safety standards in recent years.
Beginning Saturday, August 1, all UIL member schools must use Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) measurements—not just the traditional heat index—to determine whether outdoor practices can safely continue. The new standards apply to athletics and marching band activities and are designed to better account for the combined effects of temperature, humidity, wind, and solar radiation.
The new requirements, approved earlier this year by the UIL Legislative Council, became mandatory for the 2026–27 school year on Aug. 1. According to the official UIL Rule Changes, schools must now follow required heat safety procedures instead of previous recommendations.

Scott McCarron got to ring the bell on Friday.
McCarron, 61, an 11-time PGA Tour Champions winner, rang the bell at Duke Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, to signify that he is cancer free. Diagnosed March 23 with Diffused Large B cell Lymphoma, he had been undergoing daily radiation for the previous 10 days, making 5-hour roundtrips to his home.
"Thank you to all the doctors and nurses that took great care of me," he wrote in a social media post. "Thank you to all my friends, family and everyone that sent prayers my way. I'm forever grateful. Now back to golf!"
McCarron was diagnosed with Stage Two B-Cell lymphoma after coming down with a sore throat. Fortunately, he took it seriously because a doctor's visit led to a trip to an ear, nose and throat doctor, who suggested a biopsy.
"Most of us are pretty stubborn and don't do anything for a while," he told Golfweek. "As soon as the thing showed up, I said, 'I don't like the looks of it.'"
