The TSSAA heat policy for Tennessee high school football will come into effect with temperatures soaring across the state.
Middle Tennessee is under a "major to extreme heat risk" through Sept. 5, according to the National Weather Service in Nashville. The NWS forecasted a high of 101 degrees on Sept. 3 and 100 degrees on Sept. 4.
The heat index could reach 110 degrees in that span, which is why some TSSAA football Week 3 kickoff times have been pushed back from the traditional 7 p.m. slot. Several high school games in Knoxville have already seen changes in start times.
The TSSAA restricts outdoor football activity when the heat reaches a certain level.
Here's a rundown of the TSSAA heat policy.

In Trent Dilfer's coaching return to Lipscomb Academy and TSSAA football, the Mustangs were inches short of a season opening upset.
McCallie's defense stopped Lipscomb Academy at the goal line on 4th and goal to preserve a 27-24 overtime victory on Aug. 21 in Chattanooga.
Lipscomb Academy twice appeared close to scoring on the overtime possession but were denied. On third and goal, Turner White carried inside the 1-yard line but was ruled short. Duke commit Mikel Stephens was stopped inches short on a fourth and goal carry in the game's final play.
And while the Mustangs will drive back up Interstate-24 with a 0-1 record, it was a huge effort against a Division II-AAA power in Dilfer's return after three seasons at UAB.
The Mustangs led 17-7 in the second quarter after a 78-yard touchdown catch by Jaxon Spencer via a reverse pass. But the Blue Tornado slowly chipped away at the deficit.

Baylor running back David Gabriel Georges didn't need any added motivation entering the showdown on ESPN2 against fellow USA TODAY Sports Super 25 team Brentwood Academy on Thursday, Aug. 20.
Not only was it a rematch of last year's TSSAA Division II-AAA championship that Baylor won by four, but on the opposite side of the field played several of the five-star running back's future Tennessee Volunteer teammates.
No motivation was needed for Gabriel Georges, but Brentwood Academy ripping his helmet off again, and again, and again, and again fueled him.
By the time the fourth quarter came, Gabriel Georges had lost his helmet more times than he had been in the end zone. He still lost his helmet more times by the end of night, but he scored three times in the fourth to secure Baylor's season-opening 38-20 victory.
"I never had that many people trying to **** my helmet before," Gabriel Georges joked after the game. "I guess I'm going to have to tighten it more before our next game."

CHATTANOOGA — Brentwood Academy senior linebacker Kenneth Simon II took the result a little harder than some of his teammates.
The Eagles' 38-20 season-opening loss at Baylor on Aug. 20 was a TSSAA football state championship rematch of last year's Division II-AAA final. But it was also a nationally televised bragging-rights affair played between some of the nation's top recruits, with seven Power 4 commits on the field.
That made it more difficult for Simon as a defender to watch fellow Tennessee football commit and Baylor five-star running back David Gabriel Georges wrap up his postgame interview on ESPN2 and skip to the locker room.
Gabriel Georges rushed for 172 rushing yards — most in the second half — and added three touchdowns all after halftime to go with 78 yards receiving.

After a tame first half for his standards, 5-star Tennessee football commit David Gabriel Georges took over in the second half of Baylor's TSSAA football season opener.
Georges scored three touchdowns in the second half and totaled 250 total yards in the Red Raiders' 38-20 victory over Brentwood Academy on Aug. 20 in Chattanooga.
According to the ESPN broadcast, Georges compiled 172 rushing yards and 78 receiving yards in the first game of his senior season.
DGG showed his customary balance throughout the game, starting with an early first-quarter run where he left his feet after making contact with a Brentwood Academy defender but continued on for an 8-yard carry.

Baylor freshman quarterback Marshall Manning made his high school football debut on Aug. 20.
The son of Peyton and Ashley Manning played in a couple snaps at quarterback for Baylor in the second quarter against Brentwood Academy in the TSSAA football season opener in Chattanooga.
Marshall Manning completed an eight-yard pass to Antwaun Adams on an out route layered over a Brentwood Academy defender, then handed the ball off to David Gabriel Georges before subbing out.
Manning, wearing No. 16 like his father did at Tennessee, dressed for games last season as an eight grader, but didn't play.
Manning is backing up Ole Miss commit and 4-star prospect Keegan Croucher, who transferred to Baylor ahead of the season. Croucher started against Brentwood Academy, but Manning's debut appeared to be a planned cameo for the freshman.
