On Opening Night, the Philadelphia 76ers spoiled the New York Knicks' ring ceremony. Now, the Knicks have a chance to return the favor.
For the second time in two weeks to open the NBA regular season, the Knicks and 76ers will meet. This time, though, the game moves to Philadelphia as LeBron James and Tyrese Maxey welcome the defending champions to Xfinity Mobile Arena.
The Knicks' ******* le defense is off to a slow start, as they've dropped a bunch of close games to begin the campaign, whil the 76ers are off to a much better beginning to the James' era. Still, the Knicks represent the team to beat in the NBA, so the 76ers will surely not take them lightly.
This game also marks the first NBA Cup game for both of these teams in the 2026-27 season. New York won the NBA Cup last year and hopes to defend that crown as well.

TOMARATA, New Zealand (AP) — Defending champion Fifa Laopakdee of Thailand salvaged a 1-over 71 in strong wind Friday in the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship to take a two-stroke lead into the weekend at Te Arai Links.
A day after opening with an 8-under 63, Laopakdee began his morning round on the seaside layout bogey-bogey-birdie-bogey-bogey in 35 mph wind. The Arizona State senior also bogeyed the 10th, then birdied Nos. 12, 13 and 17.
"I had a 5‑footer two holes in a row and the ball just snapped 90 degrees," Laopakdee said. "I aimed a foot left from 5 feet and it went like 3 feet right. It's pretty tricky. Overall, it was a grind out there and I would take 7 under for the first two rounds."
The winner will receive spots in the Masters and British Open. Last year in Dubai, Laopakdee won the third hole of a playoff to become the first Thai champion in event history.
Three players from New Zealand followed on the leaderboard. Cooper Moore (70) was second at 5 under, Ryan Xie (71) was 4 under, and Zack Swanwic (67) 3 under. Kaito Sato of ****** an was 2 under after a 72.

As the Mountain West game between New Mexico and North Dakota State picked up steam on Saturday and Scottre Humphrey got his first carry for the Lobos, I thought:
That's another thing Montana State has done better than just about everyone else.
I don't know if any FCS team has been hit harder by the transfer portal through the years than the defending national champion Bobcats. But it certainly feels like the Cats absorb these losses better than most.
To date Montana State is 7-1, one win better than the 6-1 FBS Lobos who saw Humphrey — he rushed for 1,386 yards for the 2024 Bobcats and leads UNM with 453 this season — pick up 31 yards on 10 carries against the Bison. He scored a touchdown in the Lobos' 21-16 victory.
Earlier in the day the Bobcat tandem of Adam Jones and Jared White — the latter spelling Colson ***** , who was injured — tore off scoring runs of 27 and 57 yards in MSU's come-from-behind 38-33 win over Weber State.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Mark Jankowski scored in the third period for a three-goal lead, Pyotr Kochetkov made 24 saves and the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 on Thursday night.

Harpeth Hall outlasted Christ Presbyterian Academy, 2-1, to capture the 2026 TSSAA girls soccer state championship in Division II-AA at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga on Oct. 29.

The Republican Herald's game of the week for Week 10 of the high school football season will take place in Tower City on Friday night at 7 p.m.
The Tri-Valley Bulldogs (6-3, 4-2) will travel to rival Tower City to take on the Vikings (8-1, 5-0), in what is one of the chippier and more intense rivalries within the Schuylkill League.
With both teams locked into their District 11 Class A playoff spots, this Friday's matchup will count merely for bragging rights. No matter the result, both Williams Valley and Tri-Valley are locked into the top two spots of the District 11 power rankings, and will be the only teams that finish above .500 this regular season in Class A.
How they got here
Williams Valley enters Week 10 as winners of seven straight games since a Sept. 5 loss to District 4 and defending Class AA state champion, Southern Columbia. In that seven-game winning streak, the Vikings' offense has been phenomenal, averaging 32.1 points per game while the defense is allowing just 15.4 points per game.

EDMESTON – Gavin Zinger got the game winner early in the second half as the host Panthers, the No. 2 seed, beat third-seeded Gilboa-Conesville/Roxbury, 2-1, in the Section IV Class D boys soccer semifinals Wednesday, Oct. 28.
It was the third win the Panthers, the Tri-Valley League and Tri-Del champions, and defending section champions, have had over G-C/R, the Delaware League champions, this season.
Last season, the two squads tied twice, including in the section finals, but Edmeston advanced to the state playoffs on penalty kicks.
This season, the Panthers swept three games despite being outplayed at times by G-C/R, which controlled the first half Wednesday.
Dominic Grieco scored to give G-C/R a 1-0 lead, but an own goal just before halftime evened the match.

It was a rough night for Kansas City Chiefs fans as they wrapped up a busy NFL Sunday by watching their team get stimied by the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. Now, some fans were wondering why she didn't pop up during the Sunday Night Football broadcast, but there is a really easy explanation.

76ers' fatal flaw that will doom 2027 NBA championship chances appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
While the New York Knicks are the defending NBA champions and they should raise their championship banner with the confidence that comes with winning the franchise's first **** le in 53 years, the Philadelphia 76ers appear to be in a position to steal their thunder.
After adding Jaylen Brown and LeBron James in the offseason, the Sixers are the team that **** ody will be able to take their eyes off of as the season gets underway. Many observers believe this dynamic team — that also includes Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe — will be the best in the league.
When it comes to flat-out talent, the Sixers certainly will be able to make a great argument. But things like chemistry, familiarity and defense will also have an impact. One or more of those factors could scuttle Philadelphia's plans to become the best team in the Eastern Conference and the next NBA champions.

The Investec Champions Cup campaign is underway with an intriguing opening round of action whetting the appetite for the season ahead.
This one-off weekend of fixtures serves only as an hors d'ouevres with the competition not resuming until after the Nations Championship in November, and the eight English clubs will have plenty to do when it picks up again.
While Gloucester secured an excellent draw against defending champions Bordeaux-Begles, only Northampton were successful in their opening outing of the Prem contingent as the United Rugby Championship and Top 14 sides showed their strength.
Here are five things we learned:
So much for the Prem being a league on the up with a clutch of sides ready to challenge for the first time in a while. Even in victory, Northampton were not at their best against Cardiff in the wet, with the English performance of the round undoubtedly that of Gloucester at a bouncing Kingsholm on Friday evening.

Barcelona look to continue their history-making perfect start to the season and make it three wins out of three in the Champions League as the La Liga leaders travel to France for a massive league phase clash against two-time defending champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Here's how we think Hansi Flick will line up his troops for Tuesday's battle:
Flick is dealing with a defensive injury crisis as Eric Garcia, Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen have all been ruled out through injury.
Gerard Martín was also a doubt after a knock against Real Betis at the weekend, but he should be good to go as Pau Cubarsí's center-back partner in this one. Xavi Espart will likely move to right-back with Eric and Kounde out, and João Cancelo is expected to start ahead of Alejandro Balde at left-back.
Rodri was a candidate to start at center-back with all the injuries in defense but Martín's presence will allow the Spain captain to remain in his best position, with Fermín López and Pedri expected to round out the midfield trio for this one.

Anne Hathaway knew almost immediately that taking command of a crowded red carpet photo call was probably going to follow her onto the internet. One night later, she was already apologizing and laughing at herself for exactly that.
The actress went viral after directing photographers during a group photo at the September 29 New York premiere of Verity. With several cast members posing together and photographers calling for their attention from different parts of the press line, Hathaway began organizing where the group would look and when.
During her September 30 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Hathaway called watching the footage "the stuff of nightmares" and described what took over as "mom mode by way of chorus line." She said she had simply been trying to help as the photographers became frustrated and the atmosphere started to change.
Hathaway ultimately offered a playful apology instead of defending the performance. "I apologize everybody," she said, before joking that the version of herself who appeared on the carpet had arrived strictly for business.
Rather than allowing the cast to keep turning toward whichever photographer called loudest, Hathaway announced that they would begin on one side of the press line and work their way across.

Nvidia (NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang is challenging the people warning that AI could end humanity, suggesting their alarming predictions may serve another purpose.
Speaking with CBS News, Huang rejected the 'AI apocalypse' debate and questioned the motives behind those spreading that fear, adding a sharper edge to an increasingly public industry split.
OpenAI and Anthropic leaders, alongside Elon Musk, have backed calls to slow advanced AI development over safety concerns and fears that the technology might be advancing quicker than companies can control it, as reported by Financial Times.
For Nvidia investors, that debate carries financial weight. Shares have returned 20% year-to-date and 23% over the six months, according to Seeking Alpha data.
A coordinated slowdown could complicate the spending boom supporting its chip business. Huang's response, however, reaches beyond defending continued investment.

GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE:GEV) is trying to recover after an 8.5% decline, with Bernstein defending the stock as "wired to win" and highlighting that data centers account for only 38% of its electrification order book. This supports the argument that the company's utility exposure extends beyond AI power demand alone. That diversification is a real consideration, but it does not directly address the concern raised by GLJ Research. The firm's Sell rating is not based on doubts about AI-driven power demand. Instead, GLJ Research argues that GE Vernova is still a fundamentally cyclical gas-turbine manufacturer, while its current valuation reflects an **** umption that the ongoing boom can remain permanent.
GE Vernova shares stabilized after an 8.5% decline triggered by GLJ Research's new Sell rating and broader concerns that a slowdown in AI spending could weigh on the company's order book. Bernstein **** yst Sunaina Ocalan directly challenged the view that GE Vernova's outlook depends mainly on AI infrastructure spending:
While data center orders were $5 billion in H1 2026, or about 38% of electrification orders, the remaining 62% was utility-driven. Utility spend should continue to grow, supported by grid reliability and resilience investments. A slowdown in data center demand may alleviate generation bottlenecks but would do little to address existing grid constraints.
Bernstein continues to rate the stock a Buy with a $1,298 price target, while nearly 80% of **** ysts covering GE Vernova also have a Buy rating. In a separate development, the company announced a wind turbine supply agreement with Eurus Energy Holdings in **** an.
GLJ Research's Gordon Johnson argued that GE Vernova's turbines being sold out does not justify the stock trading at roughly 38.9x forward EV/EBITDA at the time the report was released. Johnson described the company as "a cyclical gas turbine manufacturer priced as a secular compounder," highlighting the premium valuation placed on a fundamentally cyclical business. His model estimates 2027 EBITDA at $7.42 billion, which is 22% below Wall Street consensus. The lower forecast is partly based on the timing of turbine orders, as equipment scheduled for 2027 delivery was ordered in 2024, before the company introduced its more recent price increase.

Coming into the season, everyone thought the NFC West would be a dogfight. With the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams, the division features the defending Super Bowl champions and the current favorites to win it all. The San Francisco 49ers are also legitimate contenders, especially after dominating the Rams in Week 1.
What few people expected was the Rams being in last place after the first week of the season. With their 27-7 loss to the 49ers, paired with wins by the Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals, the Rams are the only winless team in the division.
The Cardinals' double-digit win over the Chargers was particularly shocking, as former Rams OC Mike LaFleur led his new team to a 26-14 win on the road over Los Angeles. Perhaps the Cardinals won't be the easy out many people thought they would be.
It's only one week, but this certainly wasn't the way the Rams expected to start the season, sitting in the basement of the West.

When Sunderland were awarded a penalty following Ezri Konsa's impromptu wrestling match with Dan Ballard, it felt like a massive opportunity to break the deadlock against the notoriously watertight Gunners as Enzo Le Fée lined up his spot kick against David Raya.
There was little wrong with the Frenchman's attempt — firmly struck and aimed towards the corner — but the Spaniard made a superb save to deny Le Fée his second success from twelve yards inside a week. And when everyone's favourite villain Bruno Guimaraẽs duly fired a venomous dipping shot past Robin Roefs barely minutes later, it felt like the classic one-two punch and it ultimately defined the game.
Sunderland more than held their own in this contest; we looked sharp, combative and were able to fashion a number of decent chances against the defending champions, but the finishing touch eluded the Lads on this occasion and that somehow made the loss even more frustrating.
We know we're capable of giving the league's big guns a run for their money on any given day, and occasionally emerging victorious, but during what could easily be a "difficult second season", we need to find ways to bridge the gap and to continue to eke out points from tricky positions.
A disappointing outcome. The 0-2 scoreline might've felt slightly harsh and Reinildo's late red card was a sickener, but the way the game panned out wasn't entirely unexpected, given ******* nal's current status and Sunderland's ongoing attempts at evolution.

SAN MARCOS - Texas State football coach GJ Kinne said Saturday's 31-26 loss to UTSA was one of the weirdest games he's ever experienced.
The Bobcats (0-2) outgained the Roadrunners (2-0) offense by 83 yards. The Texas State running backs averaged 7.15 yards per carry on 35 attempts. UTSA was 3-of-15 on third down; Texas State was 9-of-17. UTSA quarterback Owen McCown faced pressure from Texas State's defensive line all afternoon.
MORE: Texas State recap from loss to UTSA
And yet, the Bobcats were the team desperately tossing laterals across the field when the clock hit zero, hoping for a miracle play. UTSA stormed the field afterward, whooping and hollering in celebration. For the first time in the rivalry, Texas State was the program defending its status. UTSA clearly had a chip on its shoulder that its San Marcos neighbours used to have. After the game, Kinne treated the loss like any other.
"We can't let this one define us," Kinne said. "It's not the end-all, be-all."

The deafening roar of Kroger Field that fueled a 17-13 halftime lead eventually gave way to a much heavier, quieter reality. When the final whistle blew on a 45-17 loss to Alabama, the scoreboard reflected a fractured dream of an upset, leaving players and fans alike processing the sting of what could have been yet again.
For Will Stein, the immediate aftermath wasn't about pointing fingers; it was about raw accountability and a profound gratitude for a fanbase that delivered a championship-level atmosphere.
The fans showed up in full force, selling out Kroger Field for Will Stein's SEC debut, creating an environment that Stein described as "unbelievable," "loud," and "energetic." Recognizing the massive emotional investment of the crowd, he didn't mince words. "I apologize to our fans for the way that we finished," he admitted, fully aware of the collective heartbreak echoing through the stands and the locker room. "I know our guys are hurting."
That hurt can't carry on too long; the SEC is an unforgiving league, and the 2nd-half performance against Alabama can't bleed over to next week.
The first half offered a vivid glimpse into the program's potential that Will Stein spoke on before the season started. The defense hunted the ball, securing three takeaways, while the offense capitalized to carry a lead into the locker room. But the second half brought stalled drives and exhausted defenders. Pinned back by short fields, the defense was asked to hold back the Tide a few too many times. "When you're defending a short field virtually the entire half, and we weren't converting on third downs, that was tough on our defense," Stein noted, acknowledging the brutal physical toll.
