The Indianapolis Colts start their preseason schedule Thursday, Aug. 13, at the New England Patriots — as long as a proper field is available.
The Patriots replaced the grass field used in the World Cup at Gillette Stadium (or "Boston Stadium," as announcers called it) with artificial turf after the July 9 match between France and Morocco.
However, the new turf was deemed noncompliant by the NFL and NFL Players ***** ociation after laboratory testing. That means another attempt to install a field before Thursday night's game.

When Aaron Nola took the mound on Saturday night, it came with the hopes of tying up the Philadelphia Phillies' series with the Toronto Blue Jays, following their extra-inning loss during the opening match.
The Phillies' starter would have himself quite a solid outing, taking to the rubber for five innings in which he would fan eight batters, allowing six hits, two earned runs, and two walks. All things considered, his outing against Toronto was one of his better outings since the All-Star break, as Nola has failed to record a win since the mid-Summer classic, posting an ERA of 4.50 in that stretch.
However, Nola's night would come to an early end on Saturday night, after the Phillies pulled him following a line drive shot to the leg in the top of the sixth inning. The initial reports would be that the 33-year-old exited the match due to a right knee contusion.
Despite getting drilled in the leg and suffering from a contusion on his right knee, and not feeling right during subsequent throws, Nola is hoping to make a comeback in his next start during the upcoming week.

Memphis football's season opener is only three weeks away.
The Tigers held a "Fan Fest" event on Aug. 8 at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. It was a rescheduled event that was supposed to take place in the spring but was postponed because of weather, and it was also the first time for a lot of Memphis fans to see the 2026 team in action.
Coach Charles Huff had warned beforehand that the portion of practice open to the public wouldn't exactly be groundbreaking stuff. It was mostly special teams drills, and it took place a day after the Tigers held a scrimmage.
Still, it was a reminder that the season is close. Here's what we saw.
It's not surprising in any way that the quarterback competition between Air Noland and Marcus Stokes is ongoing, but this was the first chance to see them in action. Fans got to see a few seven-on-seven drills in which each got chances with different sets of receivers.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola was hit by a line drive and exited Saturday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays in the sixth inning due to a right knee contusion. X-rays were negative.
Jesús Sánchez hit a leadoff comebacker, estimated at 104.8-mph off the bat, that ricocheted off Nola's left leg. Nola crouched to his knees behind the pitcher's mound and tried to throw practice pitches before he left the game.
In the second inning, he became the 94th pitcher to reach 2,000 career strikeouts when he fanned Brandon Valenzuela. He gave up two runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and walked two.

MIAMI (AP) — Sandy Alcantara struck out eight in seven innings, becoming the Miami Marlins' career leader in innings pitched, and Xavier Edwards had three RBIs in a 7-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday.
Alcantara (13-6) broke the record in the third, working his 1,226th inning and passing Ricky Nolasco, who pitched 1,225 2/3 innings for the Marlins from 2006-13. He gave up three hits and walked one. Reliever Pete Fairbanks struck out all three batters in the ninth to end the game.
Edwards hit an RBI double as Miami took a 2-0 lead in the third, followed by Otto Lopez's two-run single to double the Marlins' lead. Jakob Marsee tripled to lead off the fifth, and Edwards singled to send him home.

Coleen Nolan has shown off the results of her 3.5-stone weight loss after dropping from a size 20 to a size 14 and reaching the point where she says she no longer wants the number on the scale to fall.
The 61-year-old Loose Women star has documented her transformation throughout 2026 after partnering with clinical weight-loss company Voy. She has said she now has more energy, an improved back and greater confidence in the clothes she wears.
The partnership has also generated speculation because Voy offers prescription weight-loss treatments, including injectable medications. Nolan had previously expressed reservations about weight-loss jabs, but she has never publicly said that she personally used Mounjaro, Wegovy or another injection to achieve her 3.5-stone loss.
What Nolan has said is that a pre-diabetes diagnosis changed how seriously she viewed her health after years of yo-yo dieting. She joined Voy looking for a longer-term approach and has since said she has reached a weight she is happy to maintain.
"I feel so much better health-wise," she told The Sun. "My back's improved, I've got more energy. And confidence-wise, of course it helps." Nolan also made clear that she was no longer trying to continue losing weight.

Aaron Hill made an outstanding effort to reach the ball and got his glove on it, but it deflected into right field. Even if he had fielded it cleanly, he wouldn't have had a play at first. Hill hoped the official scorer would call it an error, but it was ruled a hit.
Morrow struck out 17 batters—just one shy of Roger Clemens' franchise record—and walked only two, facing four batters above the minimum. His 100 Game Score tied for the fourth-best since the start of the lively ball era in 1920. Only Kerry Wood (105), Nolan Ryan (101, vs. the Blue Jays), and Sandy Koufax (101) have posted better scores. That's remarkable company.

The Mets racked up 18 hits on their way to their third win and series sweep against the Guardians, 13-6. Nolan McLean was good for most of his outing, and when he needed to come out after the fifth inning, the bullpen smothered the Guardians' hitters, allowing two hits and one run.
The first inning was deceptively quiet for the Mets. With two outs, Luis Robert, Jr. sneaked a ground ball into left field for a single, but Carson Benge struck out immediately after that. When McLean took the mound for the bottom of the inning he issued two walks back-to-back, and then allowed a line-drive single to Nathaniel Lowe to load the bases. After this, Angel Martínez managed an RBI single on a grounder to center field that scored Chase DeLauter and José Ramírez. After getting the second out, McLean gave up another single, this one on a fly ball smacked into left field by Petey Halpin. Fortunately, McLean got Patrick Bailey to fly out right after that, and the inning ended with the Guardians leading 2-0.

Next up, Eric Wagaman lined a single into center field, setting up Luis Torrens to drive a two-run home run into right field, stunning new Guardians pitcher Foster Griffin and giving the Mets the lead. McLean continued to struggle slightly with walks, allowing one to Travis Bazzana. Bazzana stole second base after Torrens' throw to second was a bit too high, but he was stranded there when Wagaman dove to stop a ground ball from Ramírez and got it to McLean in time for the third out. Notre Dame football got its fall camp started today, and a portion of practice was open to the media.
The Irish have a loaded team, one that has plenty of returning known star power, but there are more than a few positions that still have competitive battles for starting spots as the fall gets under way. While it was just one practice, it's always interesting to see who has stood out, and it very much seems like more than a few did that earlier today.
Expectations are extremely high in South Bend, and starting off fall practice on the right foot is always a good idea. It does seem like that was the case for Notre Dame, as it very much looks like players have been chomping at the bit for camp to get started.
There were multiple media members who went to social media to say who they believed had a great practice. Take a look below who stood out for Notre Dame during its first fall practice of 2026.
A few of these aren't surprising at all, as Moore, Carr and Viliamu-Asa have plenty of hype surrounding them this season. Wide receiver Matt Jeffery is a name that I didn't expect to pop off, but that is an interesting development. Punter Jasper Scaife most likely was booming more than a few attempts which is great to see. Not surprised to see running back Nolan James on the list, as he needs to make the jump as the running back depth isn't the same as it was last fall. Runs have been hard to come by for the Angels since returning from the All-Star break.
The Angels are averaging a measly 2.5 runs per game post-All-Star break, and the struggles continued on Wednesday night, as they only mustered four hits in their 5-2 loss against the Orioles in Baltimore.

(NewsNation) — A report from the United Cajun Navy includes photos of the three boats Nolan Wells' friends took to the island, according to TMZ.
TMZ released the report, which comes as an investigation into the 18-year-old football player's death continues. Wells was last seen on July 4 after traveling to Mississippi's Horn Island with friends. His body was found two days after he was reported missing.
The boats in the photo include the Triton, which took on water before leaving. Wells' friend, Warren Hudson, says the group begged Wells to return with them, but he decided to stay behind. The report states the boat left at 4:31 p.m.

Samantha Morton just revealed why Hollywood stopped calling after The Odyssey. The actress opened up about industry challenges and a painful past firing in a candid new interview.
Samantha Morton recently revealed she hasn't worked for a year since filming Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey. Morton played Circe, a witch and goddess on the island of Aeaea, in the epic film. She spoke about her career challenges on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
"I haven't worked for a year since making The Odyssey," Morton said on the podcast. She noted that she has "really good agents and a manager." However, she acknowledged the shifting landscape of the entertainment industry. "But at the end of the day, I'm 49. I do believe I'm a good actor, [but] there are other good actors out there," she continued. She added, "The politics of the industry has changed massively."

Dbacks manager Torey Lovullo started off his postgame interview stating that this game had a 'funky rhythm' to it, and I think that is a great way to summarize it.
Eduardo Rodriguez who went 8 scoreless in his last outing, got jumped in this outing. The Padres came out of the gates with a lot of hard contact scoring 3 runs in the first inning and 2 more in the second inning and before anyone could get settled in, the Dbacks were already chasing 5 runs. ERod certainly didn't have his best stuff tonight, but due to the amount of hard contact he was giving up early in this game, Im sure there are going to be people who are suspecting there was atleast some degree of pitch tipping going on.
The defense behind ERod also let him down multiple times as multiple ****** clanked off of Arenado's mitt at 3rd base, none of them errors, but still not common to see from the perennial gold glove winner. Ketel Marte also missed a critical double play on a bobble that allowed extra runs to score as of the 7 runs scored tonight while ERod was pitching, only 5 of them were earned. Certainly not the crisp defense this team typically relies on to win games. It should be noted however that despite not having his best stuff, ERod was still able to pitch into the 6th inning tonight.
The offense did nothing for 8 of the 9 innings tonight with the exception of the 7th when the Dbacks offense blasted 2 homeruns. Nolan Arenado hit the first, a 2 run shot to get the Dbacks on the board. James McCann hit the second of the inning another 2 run shot, and then all of a sudden its an 8-4 ballgame and the Padres are getting up Mason Miller in the 8th. However the Padres would then tack on another run in the 9th inning to sit Miller back down and solidify the final score of 9-4.
Of particular note in this one, Ketel Marte and Corbin Carroll combined to go 0-8 as they continue to slide as they have done the past 6 weeks or so. This team desperately needs them to step up if this team is going to maintain any kind of wild card lead and make a playoff run. Hopefully this is just the calm before the storm.

The Cleveland Sirens were officially announced as the newest WNBA team on Tuesday. The new franchise will begin play in 2028.
The new name and logo were revealed during a press event this morning. The name was teased with the slogan "hear the call" and the logo was discovered on the team's website a few minutes before the big reveal. It seems that Cleveland has landed on a name that is both classic and culturally relevant.
The mythical creatures are having a moment thanks to The Odyssey and now they're part of a league experiencing rising popularity and attention. Now they just have to wait two years to start playing basketball. The team will be put together ahead of the 2028 season, starting with an expansion draft.
One of the breakout memes of the summer features Matt Damon screaming. That image comes from Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey." In the scene where Damon is screaming, Odysseus is tied to the mast of his ship hearing the siren song.
Considering the source material for that movie is over 2,000 years old, sirens aren't exactly new. There are siren references in the Harry Potter series. Some of the outcasts in Netflix's "Wednesday" are sirens. There are even sirens in "The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants."

Ah, Greece. Sun, sea, hundreds of islands, friendly people, sirtaki, great olive oil, ouzo, pita, lamb dishes. I'm not gonna lie, Greece is my second favorite country in Europe, after, of course, Italy. So many uncharted territories, so many jewels scattered across the Mediterranean Sea, waiting to be explored.
Anyway, let's talk football. Greece has generated some excellent players over the years. Take their Euro 2004 squad: Charisteas, Zagorakis, Nikopolidis, Basinas, Seitaridis, Papadopoulos. They weren't superstars, but they were reliable and skilled players. The team was compact, resilient, and tough, winning against Portugal and France and drawing with Spain in 2004.
More recently, Greece has produced well-known names, including Odysseas Vlachodimos, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Anastasios Douvikas, and Vangelis Pavlidis, as well as promising young talents such as Christos Mandas, Christos Tzolis, and Konstantinos Karetsas.

Hill's slam off reliever Tom Cosgrove (0-1) sent the crowd into a frenzy and provided the Phillies their second major spark of the day. Brooklyn Nets guards Egor Demin and Mikel Brown Jr. are in the midst of an important summer as both players will have to work on their flaws in their game. Brooklyn saw Demin and Brown share the floor together over the course of the California Classic and Las Vegas Summer League, but there are those around the NBA wondering how effective the duo can be next season.
"But how good the Nets are in 2026-27 is not as important as how good they can be a few seasons from now, so it's important that they hit on their Lottery picks from the last two drafts," John Schuhmann wrote for NBA.com when discussing the Nets and where they rank in the Eastern Conference at the moment. NBA.com ranks Brooklyn as the 14th-best team in the East, but that number could shift depending on how Demin and Brown play next year.
"Demin and Mikel Brown Jr. combined to take 51 (60%) of their 85 Summer League shots from 3-point range, probably too high a rate given the former's size and the latter's explosiveness," Schuhmann continued. "Brown will need some time to find his way, but the time is now for Demin to take a big step forward and show that there's a brighter future for this franchise."
Heading into next season, Demin and Brown are likely to be the starting backcourt for the Nets with the rest of the lineup being filled by forward Michael Porter Jr. and Julius Randle along with center Day'Ron Sharpe. MARIETTA, Ga. — A hat trick by Arnaud Tattevin and an extended shootout helped Carolina Core FC surge past Atlanta United 2 by a 3-3 (10-9 in penalty kicks) score in MLS NEXT Pro soccer Friday at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground.
The Foxes (4-10-8, 23 points) trailed by two after Atlanta (10-6-4, 34 points) scored twice in the opening 20 minutes.
But Tattevin answered with a penalty kick in the 38th minute and a score in the first extra minute of the half — each time pulling within one. He netted the equalizer in the 50th minute.

Noah Fant has played alongside some of the NFL's most accomplished wide receivers. It's something that gives the New Orleans Saints tight end a unique perspective on where Chris Olave stands around the league. Fant spent last season in Cincinnati with Ja'Marr Chase, who commands one of the NFL's largest target shares. After watching Olave during his first training camp in New Orleans, Fant believes the Saints' star belongs in a similar tier to where Chase stands.
"Ja'Marr got a lot of targets a game, as he should have," Fant told reporters on Sunday. "He's a great player, like, transcending wide receiver. But I think Chris — I mean, I think he's just as much up there. You know what I'm saying? Like, he's a great player."
Fant has also shared offenses with DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Courtland Sutton during previous stops. It's a perspective that carries additional weight because he's seen several versions of elite receiver play throughout his career.
Olave will remain one of the primary pieces of the Saints' offense after being rewarded with a four-year contract extension worth up to $132 million just a few days ago. He also established himself early as one of Tyler Shough's top targets. For Fant, the tight end understands that the ball will frequently go in Olave's direction.

This week, it is fair to say that I have been slightly obsessed with Christopher Nolan's adaptation of The Odyssey. Without wanting to spoil anything (not that you can really spoil the plot of a story that originates from the 8th or 7th century BC), it focuses on the protagonist, Odysseus – one of the more cunning and intelligent Greek heroes who sailed to Troy to take part in the Trojan War, and the figure we would attribute the Trojan Horse to.
Nolan's adaptation focuses on Odysseus' hubris – where a figure believes they are above the rules, normal limits or consequences of their actions – and the subsequent aftermath. In Odysseus' case, he is faced with a dilemma. Is it worth sacrificing your moral core in order to be granted some supposed concept of glory?
The reason why I'm blabbing on about this is because of some of the, frankly, bizarre coverage I've seen regarding the Visitors and their current dilemma.
I don't want to retell it all at the risk of turning into some sort of Geordie Josh figure. However, the general gist is as follows: (Beh)Eddie Howe was restricted by unfair financial rules, designed by the "Top Six" mafia to protect their vested interests. Newcastle, a massive club, were never given a fair chance to succeed. As a result, the manager has had to resign because he couldn't possibly face the concept of developing young players with high potential in the Premier League. Their best players, like Claire Balding CBE and Sandro Tonali, have had no other option but to leave, being forced to go to undesirable places like Barcelona or London for more money.
Much like The Odyssey, it's all designed to pull at the heartstrings.

Samantha Morton has opened up about her turbulent, traumatic childhood.
The Odyssey star described some of the hardships ***** ociated with growing up in "foster families, homeless hostels".
Samantha, who plays Circe in Christopher Nolan's blockbuster epic, explained she had had no choice but to become "resilient" after her parents, who suffered from mental health and addiction problems, struggled to support her and her seven siblings.
"Someone told me I was resilient when I was younger," the actress, 49, told The Sunday Times. "But sometimes you've got no choice other than to be resilient because if you are not you're dead."
The BAFTA winner said she had spent her younger years in unstable accommodation, including stints of homelessness.
"I went pillar to post with foster families, homeless hostels, sleeping by the bins at the back of the Co-op, because it was too dangerous to go back to the children's home because of the abuse," Samantha recalled.
