On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers released its first preseason depth chart after the first full week of training camp. The Steelers are just over a week away from their first preseason game of the year when they will welcome the Green Bay Packers to town.
We were surprised to see how the first depth chart played out and here are the big takeaways.
Keeanu Benton benched for his own good
Benton has been the team's starting nose tackle since being drafted but we've always contended that he was out of position. New defensive coordinator Patrick Graham agrees. Benton was moved to defensive end as a backup but in a position where he can flourish and Yahya Black is listed as the starting nose tackle in his place.
We weren't sure if McCarthy might try to find a way to make Herbig a co-starter with T.J. Watt but instead just has him listed as second string despite signing a massive contract extension this offseason.

Wide receiver Brandon Hayes is back with the Eagles.
The team announced Hayes's signing on Wednesday morning. The team had an open spot on their 90-man roster after releasing defensive lineman Ta'Quon Graham over the weekend.
Hayes signed with the Eagles after taking part in their rookie minicamp as an undrafted free agent. He was waived on June 5, but is now back to try for a longer stay in the organization.
Hayes ranked third in the Football Championship Subdivision by averaging 30.7 yards per kickoff return at Southeastern Louisiana last season. He returned two of those kickoffs for touchdowns and also caught 19 passes for 227 yards and two touchdowns.

Bradford City have signed former Everton defender Reece Welch on a two-year deal after a successful trial.
The 6ft 6in 22-year-old came through the Toffees' academy and made three first-team appearances before being released at the end of last season.
He could make his competitive debut for the Bantams in Saturday's Carabao Cup first-round tie against Rochdale.
"We believe he has the potential to be a top player, and we will work hard with him to fulfil it," boss Graham Alexander told the club website.

A royal expert claimed investigative journalist Michael Gillard, who closely followed Prince Harry's Daily Mail lawsuit, has been right throughout. He said Gillard's latest article contains the biggest revelation yet. The expert revealed that the journalist obtained a letter. It claimed that the claimants and legal team already knew key investigator Gavin Burrows had stopped being involved in the case before the lawsuit started.
Tom Sykes shared an update in his latest The Royalist article on Substack on how the key witness opted out of the Daily Mail lawsuit even before it started. The witness in question is private investigator Gavin Burrows, who had been a key supporter of the case. The expert gave his stance on Gillard's reporting in his The Upsetter article, **** led Last of the Fauxhicans, claiming that he has been almost right on every step of the case. Gillard was **** ociated with The Sunday Times' Insight team and The Guardian's investigations unit and had been closely following and covering the case since it started.
Sykes mentioned that Gillard obtained the letter, which was originally received by Mr. Justice Nicklin on January 26. It mentioned that the claimants learned about Burrows' withdrawal in March 2022, when Prince Harry and six high-profile figures filed a lawsuit against the Daily Mail for illegally obtaining information and publishing stories about them. It is to be noted that the case has been won by **** ociated Newspapers Limited (ANL).
The letter stated that Burrows didn't want to testify in the trial following alleged accusations of **** aulting and threatening the lead researcher, Graham Johnson, at his home in South London. Since then, he hasn't been in contact with anyone but told the court through a video link from somewhere in Asia that he is afraid to testify.
Sykes added that the claimants, nevertheless, filed the lawsuit despite knowing that Burrows wouldn't be involved. They had clear proof of withdrawal in March 2023 after Burrows denied the allegations in a witness statement submitted by **** ociated Newspapers. The public had no idea about him stepping back from cooperating until 2025. It became known after his written submission debunking his past statements was released.

Where to watch Lions preseason games 2026: Full schedule, times, TV channels, live streams for Detroit originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Detroit Lions look to return to prominence in 2026 after finishing at the bottom of the NFC North a year ago.
The team remained mostly intact on offense, except for the trade of running back David Montgomery to the Texans in the offseason. That leaves Jahmyr Gibbs as the lone force in the backfield for Detroit with Jared Goff under center and receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams out wide.
Head coach Dan Campbell brought in Drew Petzing as the new offensive coordinator while retooling the offensive line following the departures of veterans Taylor Decker and Graham Glasgow.
Defensively, the Lions look thin after injuries to Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph last year and the release of Terrion Arnold this offseason. The team also moved on from Alex Anzalone in free agency but drafted offensive lineman Blake Miller and edge rusher Derrick Moore in the first two rounds.

WASHINGTON, Aug 3 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump's bid to install Lindsey Graham's sister as South Carolina's next senator has met unexpected resistance from Republican voters and rivals, setting up a crowded primary that will test the limits of Trump's political influence in one of his strongest states.
After Senator Lindsey ‌Graham died on July 11 at age 71 from a heart ailment, Governor Henry McMaster appointed his sister, Darline Graham, to serve the remainder of his term, ‌which expires in January.
Trump called the appointment a "fabulous tribute" and urged voters to elect her to a full six-year term in the August 11 special election, promising his "Complete and Total Endorsement."
Some Republicans say Darline Graham is a fitting caretaker for her brother's seat but oppose Trump's push to elect her to a full term, arguing voters should choose from a field that remains crowded despite the president's endorsement.

The Eagles have waived defensive end Ta'Quon Graham, the team announced on Sunday.
Waiving Graham opens a spot on Philadelphia's 90-man roster, so the Eagles will likely add another player soon.
Graham, who was buried low on the Eagles' defensive line depth chart, was a long shot to make Philadelphia's 53-man roster. He joined the Eagles' practice squad last season and re-signed with the team in March, but with the Eagles having a deep defensive line unit, the chances of him making the roster was always steep.
Graham previously spent five seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, finishing with 88 tackles and one sack in 51 games. He started 16 of those 51 appearances, carving out a decent career as a former fifth-round pick.
The Eagles will have tougher decisions to make later this summer on roster cutdown day. Letting go of Graham is just one of many moves that will be made over the next month.

Falkirk have a huge challenge to replicate their top six finish of last season as they rebuild after losing a host of key players, according to Ian McCall.
The Bairns were beaten 2-0 at home to St Mirren in their Premiership opener on Saturday.
Manager John McGlynn has had to contend with the loss this summer of his top five goalscorers from last season – Barney Stewart, Calvin Miller, Dylan Tait, Ben Broggio and Brian Graham.
"It's really hard when you're at the level Falkirk are, a big club but not one of the big, big ones," McCall, who had spells at Falkirk as a player and manager, told BBC Sportsound.
"You're signing a boy [Barmey Stewart] from a university team and then getting a million pounds for him. That's not really normal, but fans will still expect you to go and find another one. You tell me five that have been found in the last 20 years like that - it's not like that.

At training camp, the Pittsburgh Steelers have signed a 10-year NFL safety who could compete for a bigger role over the next season.
On Saturday, the Steelers signed veteran safety Rayshawn Jenkins to a one-year deal following a successful workout with the team on Day 3 of training camp.
Jenkins, who was drafted by the Chargers in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, went on to play four seasons with Los Angeles (2017-2020), three with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2021-2023), one with the Seattle Seahawks (2024), and one with the Cleveland Browns (2025).
The 2026 season will be Jenkins' 10th year in the NFL. Given his experience in a variety of different systems, Jenkins should make an instant impact as both a depth contributor and leader for Patrick Graham's defense.

The Eagles were back on the field Saturday for their third practice of training camp, and there were several players missing — thankfully, only two were due to injuries.
OT Cameron Williams suffered a knee contusion in Thursday's practice and is still sidelined, and S Cole Wisniewski is dealing with a hamstring injury. Williams' injury doesn't appear to be a long-term concern, and hopefully he's able to get back soon.
Otherwise, LB Jihaad Campbell, DL Ta'Quan Graham, RT Lane Johnson, and WR Elijah Moore were all designated as "excused/not injury related."
It was a bit of a relief to see so many players missing from practice was due to other circumstances, because initial reports that Fred Johnson was in for Lane early in the day were concerning. But, ultimately, it's a Saturday in late-summer, and they probably just had other obligations that the team deemed important enough to excuse — like Jihaad Campbell, who missed practice to to receive his degree at summer commencement from Alabama.
Unfortunately, there were also several injuries during practice:

When President Donald Trump helped orchestrate Darline Graham's appointment to finish Sen. Lindsey Graham's term, many Republicans in South Carolina saw it as a fitting tribute to her late brother.
But four days later, following Trump's announcement that he wanted Graham to run for a six-year term, their feelings quickly flipped.
The president's decision to get behind a political unknown for a breakneck special election process is further testing his clout in South Carolina, a solidly red state where Republicans already this year have roundly rejected his first pick for the governor's race and his push to redraw the state's congressional maps. Behind the scenes, some Republicans are stewing as others fret that Trump is setting himself up for failure, once again, in the Palmetto State.
"The issue is that the president continues to get bad advice about South Carolina," said CJ Westfall, chairman of the Dorchester County GOP. "We certainly empathize with Darline — and even the president, as Lindsey was a really good friend of his — but he's certainly getting bad advice. We've got a lot more exciting options for this seat. It's a once-in-a-generation opportunity."
When speaking privately to candidly discuss the race, GOP heavyweights in the state echo a growing number of social media posts lamenting "coronations" and "monarchies" — complaining that what could have been South Carolina Republicans' first open Senate primary in more than two decades now features an incumbent with the same surname.

Paige Bueckers and Angel Reese recently got caught up in a controversy involving a bet on the Dallas Wings vs the Atlanta Dream game on July 29. The official WNBA account posted a video of Bueckers and Reese betting $400 on the game. Reese flashed the cash as the duo made the friendly wager during the All-Star weekend.
The WNBA deleted the post and then faced backlash for both posting it in the first place and deleting it. Many pointed out that betting isn't allowed in their sport and demanded punishment for both players. After the game, Reese joked about demanding Apple Pay from Bueckers.
Her joke indicated towards the confirmation of the bet. More backlash ensued for both, and demands for a punishment increased. The majority of fans, journalists, and ***** ysts believed that this was a violation and that both players deserved some ramifications. Sports commentator Dan Dakich slammed the duo with some stern words. Laura Ingraham asked how the WNBA can survive after the controversy.
"I don't know because you used the right word, it's just stupid. I'm looking at Angel Reese and I'm looking at Paige Bueckers. And I used to tell my players, "look don't be the deadly combination: arrogant and stupid,"" Dakich answered.
"If you're arrogant, you can figure it out. If you're stupid, you can figure it out. But the combination is awful in both of those two. I've never seen a player in a sport, professional or college that admits to betting on their game that was allowed to play," he said.

San Francisco 49ers running back Jordan James is due to miss time in training camp with a fractured rib. The nature of the injury was a little strange because it happened before pads were on and contact really begins in camp.
Offensive line coach and acting head coach Chris Foerster shed light on the situation after Friday's practice, and indicated an overaggressive 49ers defense was at fault for the injury.
"I don't know. We haven't given the time on it yet," Foerster said. "So, he'll be back as soon as he can with the rib. A lot of times it's tolerate. Sometimes it heals faster or slower. So, I think it's hard to put a definite time frame on. It was a combination of the punch out. It's the punch out with the spin. It's one of those perfect storms. You punch out, you hit the ball. They don't miss the ball very much. But if all of a sudden when he goes to the ball, you move, all of a sudden something else is there. And I think he saw the punch coming. There was time to see it and so he tried to do something to make him miss. I think that's what caused it to happen."
James suffered the injury in Monday's session to begin the week. Brad Graham from the SF Niners YouTube channel was in the stands for Wednesday's practice and astutely pointed out that Fred Warner wasn't punching at the ball anymore, and instead making a show of not punching the ball.
That may be a sign that Warner or another linebacker who punches at the ball knew they caused the injury.

Remember the name, Erin Boothman.
Already projected to be the next big thing in Scottish cycling, the 19-year-old lived up to early expectations, kickstarting a lively and medal-laden night at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome - a place she has been coming to for a decade.
She looked right at home, beating reigning Commonwealth Games champion Bryony Botha to bronze in the women's 4,000m individual pursuit before reappearing in the 10,000m scratch race final "expecting nothing".
A photo-finish, but ultimate fourth-place finish was exciting enough, but as she made her round the mixed zone, news hit that she was upgraded to third. Another bronze in the bag.
A third for Scotland on Friday, with Fin Graham grabbing the slab of metal in the men's C1-C3 1000m TT final.

Fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers saw T.J. Watt take a few steps back last season. Well, the rest of the NFL apparently saw his regression, too.
On Friday, Watt was revealed as No. 41 in the peer-voted NFL Top 100 Players of 2026, falling 30 spots from his No. 11 placement in 2025.
In the hype video for the No. 41 selection, fellow NFL players complimented Watt's level of play, including guest speakers like Buffalo Bills offensive tackle Dion Dawkins, Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Byron Murphy II, and Steelers teammate Alex Highsmith.
Watt didn't have the 2025 season he was hoping for after landing a historic $123 million extension with Pittsburgh, recording just seven sacks and 10 tackles for loss in 14 games.
Still, when healthy, Watt is capable of completely wrecking the game plan of opposing offenses and will be looking to turn back the clock in DC Patrick Graham's new defense.

We asked for your views on head coach Steven Pressley signing a new deal with Dundee.
Here is a selection of your replies:
Richie: Delighted to see him sign another contract. Would have liked more commitment from club and Steven with longer deal, but it clearly suits both parties. I like what I see with Pressley, Dundee need guys like him.
Craig: I like him. He's progressing the club and has an eye for a player. Look at how much Luke Graham improved over last season. Many young players improving under his guidance too. I hope we bring in a few and we can look forward to a couple of decent seasons with Mr Pressley at the helm.
Jim: The fans have warmed to Steven after a job well done in the end last season. Don't think the feeling is mutual though and feel like Pressley still holds a grudge for the murmurs of discontent at the beginning of last season. Let's home he can get over it and we all improve as one this season.

Hugo Larsson sees no reason to leave Eintracht Frankfurt this summer. The Swedish midfielder was previously very close to leaving the club for the Saudi Pro League, but he has now ruled out any possibility for this summer.
"I'm really very happy here. My girlfriend feels comfortable too as she loves Frankfurt. I have no plans to leave. It's the same story every year." said Larsson in an interview with FR (via Christopher Michel).
The 22-year-old missed out on playing at the World Cup as Sweden's coach Graham Potter omitted him in an unexpected decision. Larsson scored 10 goals in 119 appearances for the Eagles since joining them from Malmo.
The central midfielder also discussed his preferences in terms of playing position. "I already noticed at the start of the last season that my role would change. I was more of a number six. That's not how I became so successful in this club.
"I became successful because I had a 'free' role. At the side of Ellyes (Skhiri) I had a lot of freedom. I'm confident enough to say that I can ******* s where I can best help the team and where they need me. As a holding six, you don't have those freedoms."

Florida football will enter the 2026 season with one of the best running backs in the SEC, if not the country.
Gators junior Jadan Baugh rushed for 1,170 yards and 8 TDs last season, ranking third in the SEC and becoming UF's first 1,000-yard rusher since Kelvin Taylor in 2015.
What can Baugh do for an encore? Under new Florida coach Jon Sumrall and offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner, the possibilities are limitless. Faulkner recruited Baugh out of Columbia High in Atlanta when he was at Georgia Tech and understands the strengths of the 6-foot-1, 228-pound running back who began his high school career as a linebacker.
"He always told me these are the things we can do with you, play can play running back, quarterback, receiver, whatever you want to do," Baugh said, "Being with an offensive coordinator like that, to have so much creativity and being able to put players in great positions, I feel like it's very exciting."
At 1,843 career rushing yards, Baugh has a chance to surpass 3,000 career rushing yards with a big junior season. That would put him among the top five UF rushers of all time, a list that includes Fred Taylor, Earnest Graham, Neal Anderson, Emmitt Smith and Errict Rhett.

The Senate took its first major step in fulfilling one of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham's biggest desires: levying bone-crushing sanctions against Russia.
A bipartisan swell carried the sanctions package through its first hurdle on an 86-12 vote, which has gone through several iterations in the time since it was first formulated by Graham and Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn. He explained that at its core, the package was designed to stop purchases of Russian oil and gas that was "fueling Putin's war machine."
"Ukraine's fight is our fight," Blumenthal said. "Nobody believed that more deeply and passionately than Lindsey Graham. He lived it, and this vote is a step forward."

Fox News host Laura Ingraham was on hand to watch Dr. Anthony Fauci answer questions at Wednesday's Senate hearing, sitting behind him and standing up when Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) asked about people being "shamed" during the COVID-19 pandemic.
When Moreno requested people in the audience stand up if they had controversial beliefs or actions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic and may have faced backlash for those beliefs or actions, Ingraham stood.
"All you have to do is look up from your lawyers and look at the people who were absolutely shamed for saying what we know now to be the truth," Moreno told Fauci during the hearing.
Ingraham, as the COVID-19 pandemic was raging in the U.S., criticized the use of coronavirus vaccines and said that Americans should not have to receive them.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, conservatives often raged against public health measures and advice meant to protect against the virus, including masking and vaccinations.

Donald Trump's wife, Melania Trump, has skipped yet another important event. The First Lady was noticeably absent from Lindsey Graham's funeral, sparking strong reactions from netizens. Previously, Melania was not present at the recent White House Correspondents' ****** ociation Dinner as well.
Late U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham's funeral service was held on July 28 at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. It was attended by President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, Eric Trump, Lara Trump, and more. However, First Lady Melania Trump was absent from the service.
The no-show has since sparked backlash among netizens, raising questions about why she wasn't present. One social media user reportedly commented, "Why wasn't Melania there? What a disgrace," while another wrote, "Melania, you should be at the funeral. What's wrong not at dinner and now" (via The Mirror US).
Graham, the former Republican representative for South Carolina, passed away on July 11 following a "brief and sudden illness." According to preliminary findings, Graham died suddenly from a likely aortic tear at his Washington residence. An official statement from his office shortly after his death read, "Senator Graham's family appreciates prayers at this time and asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult period."
Trump delivered an eulogy at Graham's funeral service, honoring the late politician. The president called Graham a "true American original, who left us much too soon." Trump added, "No matter how heated things got in Washington, virtually everyone — Republican or Democrat — liked Lindsey."

The Pittsburgh Steelers could have a much more versatile look on defense in 2026.
Speaking on Tuesday at the first day of training camp, star linebacker T.J. Watt said fans should expect to see not only himself, but fellow edge rushers Alex Highsmith and Nick Herbig lining up at multiple spots across the defensive front rather than staying in traditional roles.
"I know I say it every year, but I truly mean it," Watt said. "We all are going to be moving around."
The comments offer another glimpse into what new defensive coordinator Patrick Graham is building. Known for deploying creative fronts and disguising pressure packages throughout his coaching career, Graham appears intent on maximizing the Steelers' trio of premier pass rushers by creating favorable matchups and making it more difficult for opposing offenses to identify where pressure is coming from.
While Watt has primarily rushed from the left side and Highsmith from the right during their time together, both have shown the ability to switch sides when needed. Herbig has also emerged as an explosive rotational pass rusher, earning a larger role after flashing his ability to pressure quarterbacks in limited opportunities.
