After making the World Series last season, things have gone according to plan for the Toronto Blue Jays this year. While they had their sights set on making another deep run in the postseason, they have quite a bit of work to do.
The club has been missing some key pieces that helped them last season, like Bo Bichette and Chris Bassitt, while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and George Springer have taken a step back this year.
And after trading away Kevin Gausman, Daulton Varsho, and Jeff Hoffman, things likely aren't going to get any easier, especially as they are already 3.5 games out of an AL wild card spot.

The draw for the third qualifying round of this season's competition took place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland this morning.
In total, 18 clubs entered the third qualifying round draw. The draw was split into two paths; the Champions Path (made up of eight teams) and the League Path (made up of 10 teams). Chelsea went into the draw as one of the five seeded sides in the League Path.
The draw determined that Chelsea will face Spanish Liga F Moeve side Real Sociedad in the third qualifying round. The tie will be played out in the traditional knockout format over two legs. The first leg will be staged in England on 26 August 2026 while the second leg will provisionally take place in Spain on 2 September 2026. Kick-off times will be finalised and publicised within the next 36 hours.
The winners of the third qualifying round ties will advance to the 18-team League Phase which was initially launched last season.

After failing to advance to the FedExCup Playoffs, Brooks Koepka did not mince words.
"I think it's pretty pathetic that I can't get through," Koepka said after carding an even-par 70 Sunday morning at Sedgefield Country Club to wrap up a 74-70 weekend at the Wyndham Championship.
Koepka shared 70th place when he finished his round, well shy of the minimum solo-fourth performance he needed to move inside the top 70 and qualify for next week's FedEx St. Jude Championship.
"Ball-struck it great," Koepka said. "It's just all on the greens. I don't know what the deal is, got zero confidence, can't putt. I don't know. There's going to be a lot of changes here soon."
Entering the Wyndham ranking 116th in strokes gained putting, Koepka was 68th out of 81 players who made the cut this week.

The Commanders are dealing with a significant blow to their offensive line.
According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, left tackle Laremy Tunsil suffered a torn triceps during Saturday's practice.
He is likely to require surgery and is now set to miss at least a significant portion of the regular season.
Tunsil, 32, suffered the injury during one-on-one drills.
A five-time Pro Bowler, Tunsil has been with the Commanders since last March, when Houston traded him to Washington. In March, Tunsil signed a two-year contract extension to keep him with the club.

As more players pursue a fifth year of college eligibility following temporary court injunctions allowing certain athletes to compete for an additional season, schools are beginning to add experienced players to their rosters.
That trend continued with former NC State transfer Darrion Williams, who recently committed to Texas Tech for his fifth and final season, provided the current eligibility ruling remains in place.
Kentucky showed interest in Williams last month, according to Ben Roberts of the Lexington Herald-Leader, but the Wildcats ultimately missed out on the 6-foot-6, 225-pound wing.
Williams spent last season at NC State, averaging 14.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.8 ****** ists per game while shooting 40.4% from the 3-point line.
Before joining the Wolfpack, Williams spent two seasons at Texas Tech, where he started 67 games. He began his college career at Nevada, averaging 7.3 rebounds per game and earning Mountain West Freshman of the Year honors.

The Georgia Bulldogs are bringing a special adjustment to their uniforms early in the season. They unveiled that they will be playing in all-white uniforms against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in their home matchup on Sept. 12, 2026.
Georgia's all-white uniforms feature a white helmet and white pants, which are both not usually part of Georgia's attire. The Bulldogs frequently wear white jerseys, but they traditionally pair white jerseys with silver britches and red helmets.
Kirby Smart revealed it on the eve of preseason camp. He revealed it with safety KJ Bolden and tight end Lawson Luckie wearing the white jerseys, white pants and white helmets with the black Georgia "G" on their helmet.

For many NFL quarterbacks in the mid-2010s, there was one middle linebacker who imposed his presence on the field and forced offenses to completely change their game plan whenever they faced the Carolina Panthers.
Channel 9 Sports caught up with NFL Quarterbacks Matt Ryan and Drew Brees to learn what it was like to come face to face against Luke Kuechly twice every year in the NFC South.
Matt Ryan: "I remember playing against him his rookie year. Tony Gonzalez was our tight end. I remember Tony coming to the sideline once being like man this rookie man he keeps chirping me; he's hitting me. That was the first time I was like ok you're on Tony Gonzalez's radar as a rookie early in the season; this guy is going to be pretty good
Drew Brees: "I just know this about Luke truly I think for Matt and I, we have our kind of our presnap routine right versus every other opponent which is you break the huddle you peak the clock you look at the front and make your way up to linebackers to safeties and you're getting a feel for coverage and the matchup and leverage and different things. James Benge reports for CBS Sports that AS Roma and Juventus are understood to be among a number of Serie A clubs who hold an interest in Gabriel Martinelli, with Turkish club Fenerbahce also monitoring the situation.
Benge adds that Martinelli won't rush a decision, considering the significance of his next move.

Roma recently welcomed its tenth Greek player: defender Konstantinos Koulierakis. Will he unleash his inner Manolas, or are we in for another Greek Tragedy like Tsimikas? Let's take a look at his predecessors in the Eternal City.
Ah, Greece. Sun, sea, hundreds of islands, friendly people, sirtaki, great olive oil, ouzo, pita, lamb dishes. I'm not gonna lie, Greece is my second favorite country in Europe, after, of course, Italy. So many uncharted territories, so many jewels scattered across the Mediterranean Sea, waiting to be explored.
Anyway, let's talk football. Greece has generated some excellent players over the years. Take their Euro 2004 squad: Charisteas, Zagorakis, Nikopolidis, Basinas, Seitaridis, Papadopoulos. They weren't superstars, but they were reliable and skilled players. The team was compact, resilient, and tough, winning against Portugal and France and drawing with Spain in 2004.
More recently, Greece has produced well-known names, including Odysseas Vlachodimos, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Anastasios Douvikas, and Vangelis Pavlidis, as well as promising young talents such as Christos Mandas, Christos Tzolis, and Konstantinos Karetsas.
And there is also Konstantinos Koulierakis: a tall, athletic center-back who just joined Roma from Wolfsburg and has already been capped 22 times by the Greek National Team.

The Los Angeles Lakers' roster for the upcoming NBA season is largely set, but they would love to add a starting-caliber wing or forward by the end of the summer. Their options as far as doing so aren't exactly great, however.
They have been in pursuit of Jonathan ***** inga, the 23-year-old 6-foot-8 forward who has plenty of untapped potential, but it looks like they cannot come to terms with the Atlanta Hawks on a sign-and-trade deal. As the summer has moved along, it has seemed more and more like ***** inga simply won't end up with the Lakers, and that perhaps he isn't the player who will sufficiently solve their need for a starting wing or forward.
Los Angeles may therefore have to think outside the box. According to Christian Clark of The Athletic, the Dallas Mavericks have explored trades involving Klay Thompson, who has spent the last two seasons with them, and Clark also wrote that Thompson would like to come to Los Angeles.
"At this point, it remains unclear if Klay Thompson — the Mavericks' leading 3-point shooter in each of the past two seasons — will be back in Dallas for a third year. The Mavericks have explored his trade market but have yet to find a deal, multiple sources with rival teams told The Athletic on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss any potential negotiations. Thompson is owed $17.5 million this season and is set to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2027.
"My understanding is that Thompson would welcome a return to Los Angeles, where he spent part of his childhood and still owns a home."

The Brazil midfielder, 34, joined Lionel Messi at Inter Miami on a free transfer from Manchester United in July, signing sadeal that runs to the end of the 2027 MLS campaign, with an option to extend until June 2029.
Casemiro scored an own goal in Miami's 2-2 draw with the Columbus Crew on Sunday as Messis returned to a vtion after the World Cup.

Aug. 2—MOSCOW — Improvement each day is a focal point for the Vandals. On the back of a staff member's T-shirt read "Doesn't Matter, Get Better."
Idaho coach Thomas Ford Jr. also mentioned that as the reference that the Vandals will be using all season — just to get better each and every day.
"Improvement," Ford said about what he is looking for in post-practice film. "We're going to make plenty of mistakes — it's (about) not making the same ones. I always talk to the guys about whatever we really needed to focus on from a mistake standpoint. The last practice should be now a strength, and we shouldn't be seeing those same mistakes as we got them coached up. So just to see the guys continue to play with great effort, and when they do make mistakes, (they're) making new mistakes."
On Day 4 of the Vandals' fall camp at the P1FCU Kibbie Dome, there were still many shell drills, positional drills, and some 11-on-11.

Taysom Hill won't be back with the Saints in 2026, but the versatile tight end could wind up reuniting with a former coach.
Broncos head coach Sean Payton told Steve Wyche and Cynthia Frelund of NFL Media that the team will explore bringing in Hill.
Hill saw his first NFL action while playing for Payton in New Orleans in 2017 and would go on to see time as a tight end, quarterback, kick returner and various other offensive roles during their time together. Hill remained with the Saints after Payton left following the 2021 season, but said last week that "returning to New Orleans is not in the cards" this year.
Given the history between Hill and Payton, the Broncos were seen as a possible next stop for Hill and that possibility feels a little more likely with the team set to consider the move.

Over the last several months, as Los Angeles Lakers star guard Austin Reaves neared his opportunity to opt out of his contract and cash in on a lucrative new one, many expected him to stay put. He eventually did by agreeing to a four-year, $185 million deal, but the process didn't come without anxiety.
He admitted that there was a point in the negotiations when he doubted he would end up staying with the Lakers. Indeed, the Detroit Pistons were one team that was "coming aggressively" for Reaves in free agency, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. Detroit finished first in the Eastern Conference last season but needed a little more star power and another legitimate scoring threat in its halfcourt game.
Vincent Goodwill of ESPN reported on "NBA Today" that Pistons superstar Cade Cunningham tried to recruit Reaves to the Motor City.
"Banking on internal improvement has been the thought going back from last summer when they didn't make a big move going into the season," Goodwill said. "They want to see how Jalen Duren and Ausar Thompson and Ron Holland would play together and it led to 60 wins. Now you're thinking Detroit was going to go make a big move this past offseason. Cade Cunningham was very involved in the potential recruitment of Austin Reaves. Austin Reaves re-signed with the Lakers. Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving -- those were all names the Pistons were interested in. No moves materialized and now they're going to bank on the restricted free agent of Jalen Duren and Ausar Thompson's extension."
The Pistons have made some incremental moves this summer, including bringing in veteran forwards John Collins, Tobias Harris and Taurean Prince and guard Isaiah Joe. Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal will likely be the biggest domino to fall before the 2026 MLB trade deadline. Plenty of other big names have emerged in rumors, however, from former Cy Young winners to one of the league's top sluggers.
The New York Mets -- who'll likely be busy over the next few days -- helped get the action going by sending reliever A.J. Minter to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for infielders Bruin Agbayani and Billy Amick. Agbayani is the son of Benny Agbayani, who played parts of four seasons for the Mets.

Northern Ireland picked up their first netball win at the Commonwealth Games in their final game as they secured a resounding 78-39 victory over Trinidad and Tobago at the Hydro.
The win for the Warriors, who finished bottom of Pool A, ensures they finish the competition in 11th place with Trinidad and Tobago, who finished bottom of Pool B, ending up 12th.
NI dominated the first quarter to lead 19-10 and really took control in the second, scoring 21 times to move 40-18 ahead.
The Warriors pressed on after the half-time break and extended their advantage to 60-28 after the third quarter.
The final quarter was a bit closer, with NI winning it 18-11 to end a tough Games campaign on a high.

A Seattle Storm co-owner has been suspended after two girls claim that she yelled and cussed at them for their sign supporting Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham following her comments against transgender women in women's sports. However, that does not seem to be a popular decision amongst fans.

After Tuesday night's game, the two teenage fans claimed that they were confronted by a woman identified as Seattle Storm co-owner Celeste Keaton, who was "screaming and cussing" at them for their signs supporting Cunningham.
"Well, we were just sitting there with our signs that said like, 'We love Sophie,' like, 'Thank you Sophie for speaking up,'" one of the young girls recounted, via Brandi Kruse. And then we get to, I've experienced a lot of things as a part of the Duke brand and the standard that we have here. But the people and the meaningful relationships that you make along the way is what you remember the most."

Florian Lipowitz has returned home after undergoing surgery on a collarbone fracture the German rider sustained in a crash at the Tour de France, team manager Ralph Denk has said.
"he is at home again. He is following the race, texting us. We are in contact," Red Bull-Bora hansgrohe manager Denk said after the 19th stage in Alpe d'Huez.
Lipowitz crashed in a turn during Tuesday's time trial and had to withdraw from the Tour. He was fifth in the overall standings at the time and had the chance to make the final podium like last year, when he finished third.
Denk said that he expects Lipowitz to return before the end of the season, possibly for autumn one day classics such as Il Lombardia on October 10.
He is not expected to be fit in time for the Spanish Vuelta starting on August 22 or the world championships in Montreal from September 20.

The giant natural garden which featured in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games opening ceremony will be moved to the athletics venue before taking up a permanent home in Scotland.
The creation featuring 2,400 plants greeted King Charles and Queen Camilla as they emerged from a Tardis at the start of the show.
Athletes from 74 nations and territories then paraded past the 200 sq m (2,153 sq ft) green jigsaw before taking their seats in the Hydro.
The garden, which is 15m (49ft) in diameter, was designed by Amalie White in collaboration with plantsman Jamie ***** erworth.

LSU football made a change to its future schedule. The Tigers cancelled a home-and-home series with Arizona State that was originally slated for 2029 and 2030. The move came shortly after LSU added Tulane to its 2030 schedule.
FBSchedules.com reported that the cancellation was a mutual decision and neither school would pay a fee.
Several SEC schools have been working to reshuffle future schedules after the SEC announced a move to a nine-game conference schedule. A nine-game SEC schedule will be a grind, and playing a tenth Power Four isn't the best way to maximize College Football Playoff chances. Still, SEC schools are required to play at least one game vs. a nonconference Power Four opponent, but it's unclear if the SEC will still have that rule in place in 2030.
Right now, Tulane is the only team LSU is scheduled to play in 2030. If that rule stays in place, LSU will have to find a Power Four replacement for Arizona State or count on Tulane moving up to the ACC or Big 12.
