Bill Simmons is under review by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission after he admitted on a podcast to proxy betting.
During one of The Ringer founder's recent podcasts, Simmons admitted that he had his daughter's boyfriend place bets for him in Massachusetts (where sports betting is legal) when he was off in California for work (where sports betting is illegal).
"The Commission is aware of the comments made on the Bill Simmons Podcast and staff are currently reviewing the matter," an MGC spokesman said in a Tuesday statement.
Simmons then addressed the hot water he's found himself in on a podcast as well, confirming that those bets placed via proxy had been voided and that he was unaware of the illegality.
"I talked about how I got my daughter's boyfriend to place some bets for me in Massachusetts because I was in L.A. … did not know about the proxy rules," Simmons said on Tuesday's episode. "Yeah, there are some real rules with this stuff, and they've ruled that not only are the bets going to be voided — and I learned my lesson."

For now, the answer seems to be generally yes – with an important caveat.
In an update last week, the US Food and Drug Administration said it "remains confident that all recalled iceberg lettuce related to this specific Cyclospora outbreak is off the market" and that "product should no longer be available in stores or restaurants."
People do not need to avoid iceberg lettuce completely — but they should be mindful not to eat any of the products that were a part of the initial recall and still practice general food safety protocols.
"In terms of the risk to consumers now, if today for dinner you wanted to go out and eat a salad, you're pretty safe from cyclospora at this point, as far as we know," said Matthew Moore, an ****** ociate professor of food science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

A court in the Netherlands has sentenced a Dutch-Rwandan man to life for his involvement in the 1994 genocide in Rwanda.
The 66-year-old, named only as Eugene N, was accused, among other things, of throwing a hand grenade into a crowd of Tutsis who were seeking shelter in a stadium. He was convicted of war crimes and the crime of genocide, having acted with "genocidal intent", the judge said.
Rwanda had sought his extradition in 2014 but the authorities in the Netherlands then launched their own investigation into N, who had become a Dutch citizen.
In 100 days in April 1994, an estimated 800,000 ethnic Tutsis and politically moderate Hutus people were killed by Hutu extremists.

Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical Inc. (NASDAQ:RARE) was up 7.5% in after-hours trading as of approximately 5:33 p.m. ET Wednesday after the FDA approved Genglycos for glycogen storage disease type Ia, or GSDIa. The one-time gene therapy is the first approved treatment designed to address the disorder's underlying cause. It will carry a U.S. list price of approximately $2.7 million per patient and is expected to become available through qualified treatment centers within 30 to 60 days.
The approval gives Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical Inc. (NASDAQ:RARE) first-mover status in a disease the company estimates affects only 1,500 to 2,500 Americans. The commercial question is whether a high-priced treatment for an ultra-rare population can produce meaningful revenue after diagnosis, reimbursement, and treatment-center constraints.
GSDIa prevents the liver from releasing glucose properly, leaving patients dependent on frequent raw-cornstarch doses to avoid potentially life-threatening hypoglycemia. In the Phase 3 GlucoGene trial, Genglycos reduced mean daily cornstarch intake by 41% at Week 48, compared with 10% for placebo, while maintaining glucose control. For Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical Inc. (NASDAQ:RARE), reducing that daily burden creates a clear argument for premium pricing.
Longer-term data also support the treatment's potential durability. At Week 96, the original-treatment group reported a 61% mean reduction from baseline, while the crossover group reported a 61% reduction from Week 48, when it began treatment. Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical Inc. (NASDAQ:RARE) will manufacture the therapy at its Bedford, Massachusetts, facility, giving the company direct control over an important part of the supply chain.
The launch will also test infrastructure that could support future gene therapies. Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical Inc. (NASDAQ:RARE) already sells rare-disease products including Crysvita, Dojolvi, Evkeeza and Mepsevii. Second-quarter revenue reached $214 million, while cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities totaled $436 million as of June 30. Genglycos therefore enters a functioning commercial organization rather than a first-time launch platform.

Megyn Kelly isn't buying the insanity defense at the center of Lindsay Clancy's ongoing murder trial.
Clancy, 36, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the January 2023 strangulation deaths of her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8, at the family's Duxbury, Massachusetts, home. If convicted, she faces life in prison without parole.

On the Tuesday, August 25, episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, Kelly, 55, argued that Clancy's case does not meet the legal standard for insanity. To make her point, she compared Clancy to Jeffrey Dahmer, the notorious serial killer who killed 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991. Dahmer pleaded guilty but insane to 15 murders in Wisconsin, but a jury found him legally sane in 1992, despite testimony about his mental and personality disorders, Live5News reported. He was killed in prison in 1994, at age 34.
"If anybody would ever meet the definition of legally insane, it should be somebody like a Jeffrey Dahmer," Kelly said on the podcast. "A jury rejected the insanity defense of Jeffrey Dahmer. I'm sorry, but Lindsay Clancy is far closer to sane than Jeffrey Dahmer was, but she's trying the same defense."
