On average, investors generally expect the market to provide roughly a 10% return each year. In fact, if you look at the long-term history of the S&P 500 index (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC), that's about what you get, ******* uming you reinvest dividends. So what should an investor make of the fact that the first six months of 2026 saw the S&P 500 index advance 9.5% on a price-only basis and nearly 10.2% with dividends reinvested?
The first issue to address regarding market returns is that it includes bull and bear markets. A bull market is when the market goes up 20%, while a bear market is when it falls 20%. Bull and bear markets represent moves much larger than 10% and highlight that the market does not just go up at a steady, comfortable pace. The markets can be, and often are, quite volatile.

To be fair, if you bought and held the S&P 500 index over the long term, you would have seen the value of your portfolio rise dramatically. You can easily buy the index with a low-cost exchange-trade fund like Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (NYSEMKT: VOO). But you have had to hold on through some pretty trying periods. For example, since the turn of the century, SPDR S&P 500 ETF (NYSEMKT: SPY), the oldest ETF tracking this index, is up roughly 400% on a price-only basis, with reinvested dividends bringing the total return up to just over 700%.

On September 4, the U.S. Department of War (DoW) announced a $336,112,000 Navy contract for Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. (NYSE:HII) to advance procurement of long-lead materials for the construction of the future USS William J. Clinton (CVN 82).
Work on the program will be executed in Newport News, Virginia, with completion anticipated by March 2039. Shipbuilding and conversion funding from FY 2026 will be obligated at the time of award.
The contract is not just a headline number, but reaffirms the company's status as the sole nuclear carrier builder for the U.S. Navy.
The long lead materials contract has secured Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. (NYSE:HII)'s role on the CVN 82 well before construction begins, which has extended revenue visibility to 2039.
According to defense websites, the Navy plans on spending $22.34 billion on its aircraft carrier replacement program over the next five years. This contract can be seen as among the first in a larger sequence, with more awards to come as procurement accelerates.

On September 14, L3Harris Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:LHX) said it had secured a $60 million contract from the U.S. Air Force to continue producing sensors that let aircrews choose the precise detonation altitude.

The system will provide enhanced radar-guided performance, advanced sensing features, and manual and ******* pit-selectable burst heights, the company said in a press release.
The production will take place at L3Harris' Cincinnati facility. The order comes at a time when the defense contractor is expanding the output capacity of proximity fuzes and sensors for the U.S. military to support a wartime footing.
Investors should view the C-HOBS contract as evidence of the company's recurring business with the Air Force on precision-guidance electronics. Despite being small in magnitude, such low-risk and steady order flow underpins the bull thesis for the stock.

Intel (NASDAQ:INTC), the leading chip manufacturer, closed at $108.80, up 7.67%. Shares rose after news reports yesterday of a possible tie-up with SK Hynix (NASDAQ:SKHY). They continued to rise today, even though the South Korean firm issued a statement saying that nothing has been finalized.
Trading volume reached 147.2 million shares, coming in about 35% above its three-month average of 109.0 million shares.
The S&P 500 closed at 7,638, up 1.14%, while the Nasdaq Composite finished at 26,418, up 1.69%. Among semiconductors, Advanced Micro Devices closed at $545.09, up 6.36%, and Qualcomm closed at $188.71, up 2.09%, as chip-sector strength and memory-share momentum lifted the group.
Chip stocks rallied today after a rough week in which interest rate hikes and tech leaders' calls for a slowdown in artificial intelligence (AI) development weighed on the sector. Intel got an extra boost from a deal that may not even materialize: Even a whisper that SK Hynix might, possibly, maybe lease part of its Ohio complex or enter into a joint venture proved tantalizing to investors.
The difficulty with these types of speculative price jumps is that they often aren't sustainable. SK Hynix saying it is "exploring various options" is a long way from signing a deal. More concrete news? Barclays upgraded the stock from "Underperform" to "Overweight." Ultimately, Intel is well-placed to benefit from growing AI demand, but finding a client for its foundry business -- whether or not that's SK Hynix -- would represent a significant win.

Starting the lightning round on September 14, when a caller inquired about SentinelOne, Inc. (NYSE:S), Mad Money host Jim Cramer remarked:
No, look, I think you don't need, look, my Charitable Trust owns both Palo Alto and CrowdStrike. It's already too many. I think either one of those two is superior to letter S.
The latest results show a large difference in scale. SentinelOne's fiscal second-quarter 2027 revenue rose 21% year over year to $292 million, while annualized recurring revenue increased 22% to $1.218 billion. Palo Alto Networks, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:PANW) fiscal fourth-quarter 2026 revenue rose 34% to $3.41 billion, while Next-Generation Security ARR increased 63% to $9.10 billion. Additionally, we have discussed CRWD in our recent article, "Jim Cramer Highlights CrowdStrike (CRWD) as AI Security Concerns Lift Cybersecurity Stocks."
SentinelOne, Inc. (NYSE:S) non-GAAP operating margin reached 10% in fiscal Q2 2027, up from 2% a year earlier, while its GAAP operating margin improved to negative 31% from negative 33%. The company guided for fiscal third-quarter revenue of $309 million to $311 million and full-year revenue of $1.202 billion to $1.207 billion.
Palo Alto Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:PANW) reported approximately $1 billion of non-GAAP operating income in its fiscal fourth quarter of 2026, compared with $768 million a year earlier. Adjusted free cash flow reached approximately $1.3 billion, while GAAP operating income was $172 million versus $497 million a year earlier. Palo Alto CEO Nikesh Arora said in the September 1 earnings release that the latest advances in AI are "elevating cybersecurity to the top of the CIO priority list."

Autodesk (ADSK) stock has 23.6% of room above it before it meets a ceiling that has turned it back three times, and 5% below it before the reason to be there stops being true. In dollars: $272.34 overhead, $220.31 Wednesday, $209.29 underneath. The stock has lost about 31% over the past twelve months, so the easy read is that the business broke. Its own numbers say it did not.
Would You Have Made Money Buying Autodesk Here Before?
Buyers have stepped in at this price zone eight times before. Three of those eight produced a completed advance, averaging a 34.3% gain to the peak that followed, with a median of 459 days from the defense to that peak. The other five have not yet risen above their own starting price, so they are not in that average at all. The ceiling overhead asks for less than that average of the three that paid.
The last two years are the problem. Autodesk entered this price band on five separate occasions over the last twenty-four months, and counting only a 20% gain before any 5% fall as a defense, one held and four broke 5% lower first. The path up is not clear either: the stock has to get through $248.16 and $261.04, both pauses rather than proven ceilings.

Ascendis Pharma A/S (NASDAQ:ASND) announced on September 14 that it will regain exclusive rights to develop, manufacture, and commercialize TransCon products in metabolic and cardiovascular diseases following the termination of its collaboration with Novo Nordisk A/S (NYSE:NVO).
The rights include once-monthly TransCon Semaglutide, an investigational long-acting prodrug of semaglutide intended for obesity and type 2 diabetes. Neither party will have continuing financial obligations to the other. Once termination becomes effective and the rights revert, management plans to initiate multiple programs across rare and large indications.
The investment question is whether greater control over future products can justify the resources needed to develop them.
Ascendis Pharma A/S (NASDAQ:ASND) would regain flexibility over which indications to pursue, how quickly to advance candidates, and whether to seek another partner. Successful independent development could retain more of a product's commercial economics, while a new collaboration could provide another way to share costs and risk.
Monthly dosing offers a clear development objective. If clinical studies demonstrate effective treatment with acceptable tolerability, fewer injections could make long-term therapy more convenient. That potential benefit would matter most if it helps patients stay on treatment without sacrificing outcomes.

Industrial automation company Rockwell (ROK) has joined Project Glasswing, Anthropic's initiative focused on using advanced artificial intelligence (AI) to improve cybersecurity across critical infrastructure. For Rockwell, this is especially relevant because its systems sit inside factories, warehouses, semiconductor plants, and other industrial operations.
The timing also matters. ROK stock has already had a strong run this year, while its latest results showed solid demand and expanding margins. But shares have pulled back from their June 52-week high of $497.36. That leaves investors asking whether Project Glasswing can become another growth driver or simply adds another layer to Rockwell's long-term technology story.

Logistic Properties of the Americas (NYSEAMERICAN:LPA) moved closer to selling Parque Logístico Lima Sur after Peru's antitrust authority, INDECOPI, approved the transaction on September 11. FIBRA Prime would acquire the entire 1.3-million-square-foot logistics park for $145 million. Customary administrative closing matters remain outstanding.
Management expects approximately $85 million of net proceeds after debt repayment and before taxes, with Mexico the intended destination. Approval advances the financing of that expansion, while the investment case rests on replacing an established income stream.
Lima Sur generated $10.3 million of cash net operating income, or cash NOI, during the 12 months ended March 31, 2026. Cash NOI is a company-defined non-IFRS measure of property income after operating expenses, adjusted to remove straight-line rental accounting. It excludes corporate overhead, financing costs, income taxes, and other non-property items.
Logistic Properties of the Americas (NYSEAMERICAN:LPA) has demonstrated an ability to develop, lease and operate logistics ***** ets. Second-quarter revenue increased 26.1% to $14.7 million, while stabilized portfolio occupancy reached 100% as of June 30.
Mexico already contributes revenue. Two properties acquired in Puebla in August 2025 generated approximately $0.5 million during the second quarter. That provides an operating foothold for deploying proceeds.

A woman from a low-income family in China crossed over into Hong Kong to get to a concert she had spent months saving up for.
It was a trip that Beijing’s vast surveillance apparatus didn’t miss. Now her family face the prospect of losing their government benefits for splurging on “high-end consumption.”
The incident has sparked massive debate across Chinese social media over whether those receiving benefits are also entitled to small luxuries. It’s also a reminder of the staggering extent of the Chinese government’s surveillance system, one turbocharged by advances in AI and the embrace of digital payments.
The story first surfaced in a post on popular site Red Note in early September by a user who said they were the young woman’s cousin.
The woman, surnamed Huang, had “worked hard doing manual labor and saved up from the subsidies” to pay for the concert ticket and expenses of traveling to Hong Kong, around 235 miles (380 kilometers) from her home in Jiangxi province, the post said.

President Donald Trump's administration says it has approved the sale of nearly 50 F-35 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia in a policy shift for the US that has raised concerns from some members of Congress.
Saudi Arabia has sought for years to buy the world's most advanced warplane, equipped with stealth technology that allows it to evade enemy detection.
Washington had resisted, partly because it supplies F-35s to its ally Israel, which is guaranteed under US law to receive top-of-the-range American weapons compared with those its regional neighbours can access.
Congress has 30 days to scrutinise or attempt to block the $24bn (£17.8bn) sale to Riyadh, which is the largest customer for US weapons.
Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi of Illinois, a Democrat, opposed the sale on Thursday.

Amazon raised minimum starting pay for its U.S. full-time core operations employees to $20 an hour on Wednesday, a $1-per-hour increase for front-line workers who sort, pack, and transport orders.
Amazon said the typical hourly rate for those workers climbs to nearly $24, and that when benefits are counted, total compensation comes out to more than $32 an hour. Amazon said its minimum starting pay has risen more than 17% over the past three years.
The announcement arrives as Amazon approaches the peak holiday shopping season. According to The Wall Street Journal, Amazon hired 250,000 full-time, part-time, and seasonal workers in advance of last year's holiday period.
Along with the pay increase, Amazon announced two new benefits. Beginning Oct. 1, all U.S. Amazon employees will receive a grocery discount — 10% off eligible groceries and everyday essentials on Amazon.com and Whole Foods Market online, and 20% off in-store at Whole Foods. The discount can be combined with existing Prime member discounts, the company said.
Amazon also said it is launching a banking benefit called Day 1 Financial, through which qualified employees and their families can obtain a lifelong membership in First Tech Federal Credit Union. The benefit includes accounts with no overdraft fees, no monthly maintenance fees, and no account minimums, as well as access to credit cards, auto loans, and home loans for those who qualify. The company said the rollout will start in late 2026, with broad availability expected in 2027.

The U.S. has between 3,000 and 4,700 active data centers, with plans to build another 1,500. Globally, there are about 11,800, with plans to add about 100 gigawatts of new capacity by 2030. All of which creates substantial opportunity for beaten-down stocks such as ASML Holding (ASML). However, to run all of those data centers, the world needs advanced AI chips. Today's most advanced data-center AI processors, manufactured on 4nm, 5nm, and certain 7nm processes, depend heavily on ASML's lithography technology. And as the industry moves toward 2nm production, that dependence on ASML's EUV systems will become even more important.
Some of those companies include Samsung Electronics (SMSN.L.IX), Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM), and Intel (INTC). All of which are moving forward with ASML's High-Numerical Aperture extreme ultraviolet lithography systems, better known as High-NA EUV. In short, AI must have powerful chips to run. And those chips are becoming much harder to manufacture, with ASML producing the machines that make their production possible.

Even before we go deeper, I want to be upfront about this. I think Dario Amodei's concerns about the pace of artificial intelligence (AI) development deserve to be taken seriously.
As the CEO of Anthropic, one of the companies building this technology, he has a front-row view of where AI is heading. That alone gives his warnings a perspective most of us don't have.
Dario Amodei published an essay **** led "We Must Pace the Frontier" on Sep. 12, 2026, calling for an intentional slowdown in advanced AI development.
He received remarkable support. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman endorsed it. Elon Musk said Amodei was "right." Even competitors in a fiercely competitive industry agreed that independent evaluators made sense.

This has been a primary topic of discussion for some time. I also think that if AI development continues at its current pace without safeguards, there is a real risk that we could eventually confront the darker side of what the technology is capable of doing.
Yes, of course, the potential benefits are enormous, but so are the consequences if its risks outpace our ability to manage them.
