Detroit Tigers fans who paid good money to be at Comerica Park on Monday night has reason to be upset. Their hometown team allowed the visiting Baltimore Orioles to score a bunch of early runs, which eventually sealed a third consecutive defeat for A.J. Hinch's team. Time is slipping away for the Tigers to make a run at the American League Central crown or, failing that, an American League wild card spot. And oh yeah, the latest stumbles might be just enough to convince the front office to send Tarik Skubal out of town at the trade deadline.
But all those frowns turned upside-down thanks to one uninvited guest who caused all types of chaos on the playing surface.
As hope began dwindling for the Tigers in the seventh inning, a squirrel made its way onto the diamond. It did not possess any type of healthy fear and therefore got really close to players and explored **** es that could have put it right in the center of the action. Orioles third base coach Buck Britton certainly did not help when he decided to feed the uninvited guest.
Eventually, everyone had enough of the squirrel and the decision was made to remove it from the premises.
That task proved easier on paper than in practice.

There's too much to go into in one simple article, but the interview covers Sean's many mental issues, troubled youth, how he fell in with a neo-nazi gang in prison, and other really dark stuff.
"If I was drinking, I'd be dead or I'd be in prison," Strickland said. "That's what drinking does, it lowers your inhibition. And so now you're just like, 'Oh, I'm down to do anything.' I mean, I can't even own a revolver. I have one little .22 revolver that I don't f–k with because every time I pick it up, I can't stop thinking about killing myself."

The Rams were among the favorites for Super Bowl LXIII before they traded for Myles Garrett in June and acquiring the defensive player of the year has only pushed expectations for the coming season higher in Los Angeles.
Head coach Sean McVay acknowledged those expectations at the start of training camp while noting that "there's a lot of stuff in the midst of the journey that we don't control." McVay wants the Rams to prioritize the things they do control when it comes to preparing for the season and quarterback Matthew Stafford was in a similar frame of mind when he spoke to reporters on Monday.
Stafford said he wants the team to focus on improving their baseline level of play rather than thinking about how high they can climb if everything falls into place.
"We can't help but make each other better, [but] pieces of paper and names on a roster, those don't win football games," Stafford said, via Greg Beacham of the ******* ociated Press. "Teams and players and groups do. . . . Sean said it the other night, we've got potentially a high ceiling, right? We've got great players that have done a lot in this league. What can we do to continue to raise our floor, so if I'm off a little bit, we can still go find a way to win a football game? If our defense is off a little bit, we can still find a way to go win a football game. Continuing to raise that floor is something that's going to be a huge part of our journey this season."
There are a number of ways that a talented team can get thrown off track over the course of an NFL season. Two weeks ago, I argued in a column that USC baseball needed to pay up and retain star pitcher Grant Govel for the 2027 season. Well, it appears as though the Trojans listened to me.
On Monday, Govel announced that he will forego signing with the Pittsburgh Pirates, who selected him in the 16th round of the MLB Draft. Instead, he will be returning to USC for his junior season in 2027.
This is a massive boost for the Trojans. Govel finished the 2026 campaign with a 10-3 record and a 2.87 ERA. For his performance, he earned second-team All-American honors.
With first-team All-American Mason Edwards signing with the Athletics as a second round draft pick, Govel should take over as USC's ace next season. In Govel and NCAA Tournament hero Andrew Johnson, Trojans hope that they will once again have one of the top pitching duos in the country in 2027.

Hey Commanders fans, what do you know about Robert Henry Jr?
With the Washington Commanders rookies having already reported for the 2026 training camp, let's learn about Henry. Initially, it is perfectly understandable if no one in the Commanders fan base knew of Henry in his first two years of college. You see, he played for Jones College in Ellisville, Mississippi, a junior college in 2021 and 2022. Henry then transferred, finding a new football home at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA).
Playing at UTSA from 2023-2025, Henry blossomed in his senior season, accumulating 1,045 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 151 carries, averaging 6.9 yards per attempt. One of the things that Commanders scouts no doubt noticed about Henry was his development in his ability to break off an explosive run for big yardage. Henry produced five rushes of 70-plus yards in 2025. This was not only the best, but was three more than any other FBS player. Henry was named a first-team All-American Athletic Conference and was a Doak Walker Award semifinalist.
Standing 5-foot-9, weighing 196 pounds, Henry is not exactly Derrick Henry in stature. This is another reason Henry went undrafted in April's 2026 NFL Draft. Mark Elliott, who guided Trevecca from NAIA to NCAA Division II membership and became the school's longest-serving athletic director, announced his retirement on July 28 following the conclusion of the 2026-27 academic year.
Elliott, a former Vanderbilt basketball and baseball player, led Trevecca through two conference transitions since being hired in 2011. It was Elliott's first time serving as an athletic director, and he was hired one day after Trevecca announced the NCAA had accepted its application for Division II membership.
"Never having been an athletic director before, I don't think I knew what I didn't know; I just knew this was what I felt called to do, I wanted to do, I felt really good about entering into that **** e," Elliott said. "Then the main goal was to move Trevecca from NAIA to NCAA Division II. That was a four-year process back then, so I don't know that I had a longer-term vision than the four years. On Monday, Message Board Geniuses released its top-10 "Most loyal college football fanbases" with Nebraska coming in at No. 1, followed by Texas A&M at No. 2, which makes perfect sense given both programs' struggle to match their success in the 1990's, especially the Cornhuskers, who dominated with three national championships in 1994, 1995, and 1997 under legendary head coach Tom Osborne.
Texas A&M came close to competing for a national **** le multiple times under former coach R. C. Slocum, who finished his A&M coaching career 123-47-2, including three Southwest Conference **** les and one Big 12 Championship during the 1998 season. Since then, Texas A&M has undergone five coaching changes, and Mike Elko will enter his third season at the helm after leading the Aggies to the College Football Playoff last season.
Texas A&M alums gleefully greet one another with "Gig 'em" or "Howdy!" and will stand throughout every home game in Kyle Field, no matter the team's record. During a conversation with Turkey's Socrates Magazine, the 23-year-old was asked about some of the controversial narratives surrounding last season's team. Regarding his pairing with Durant, Sengun said (via YouTube's English transcript): A perception suddenly formed out of nowhere. I've never had an argument with KD, not even once. We've never raised our voices at each other. We always talk, and we always talk after games, too. We especially talked after games we lost. Like, "What are we doing wrong?" I specifically would ask him, "What do we need to do? Where do you think we made mistakes today? Why didn't it work out?" I ask him, and he answers. These things always happen, but like I said, because we're people who hate losing… you can see that on our faces during games. You can read it on KD's face. You can read it on my face. You can read it on Ime's face. KD also has a massive fanbase. I think about it like this. My fans will never view me negatively. I notice this. Like, there are areas where I perform poorly, and I see that myself. But, say, I'm talking to someone on the phone — they'll always blame others. I'm not that kind of person, though. I always hold myself accountable. I don't speak like that with anyone — whether it's a friend or family member. When things like that are discussed, I always say, "That's not how the situation actually is." Do you get me? I can't ease my conscience by shifting the blame to someone else. 2026 has marked a significant turning point in biotech capital markets, not just a small comeback. The 10-12 Maryland Little League Baseball State Championship was held last week in Hagerstown, Maryland, as teams from across Maryland competed for the state ***** le and a spot at the Mid-Atlantic Regionals. But only one team could walk away with that honor, and that team would be the Berlin Little League team.
After winning the District 8 Championship over local rivals, Berlin Little League arrived at the Maryland State Championship Tournament as one of seven teams hoping to take one step closer towards an appearance at the Little League World Series. And they did just that, as they brought the state championship back to Berlin.
It all culminated in their 6-2 victory over South Baltimore in the ***** le game, which capped off their unbeaten run to the ***** le. According to The Herald Mail, Berlin's Jonah Isett struck out five in 4⅔ innings, only allowing two runs and two hits to help lead Berlin to victory. The debate surrounding Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's ODI future refuses to die down despite both continuing to deliver for India. While neither head coach Gautam Gambhir nor chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar has publicly committed to their participation in the 2027 World Cup, keeping the speculation around their future alive.
India's recent 1-2 ODI series defeat against England only added fuel to the conversation. Rohit silenced critics with a match-winning century in the series finale, registering his 34th ODI hundred amid speculation that the Lord's fixture could be his final international appearance. Kohli, meanwhile, chipped in with two half-centuries during the series after both senior batters struggled in the opening match.
Former India wicketkeeper-batter Deep Dasgupta believes there is no need to question Rohit and Kohli's places in the side, but stressed that both must make an immediate impact whenever a series begins instead of taking time to settle.
"That has to be a conversation with everyone, not just them (Kohli and Rohit), that they have to start the series well and hit the ground running. That is a challenge. You can't take one or two games to get into the groove. But that's where the support staff comes in and has conversations with the players by creating an environment to get the best out of everyone," Deep Dasgupta said on his YouTube channel.
Dasgupta insisted that the standards applied to the two stalwarts should remain unchanged despite the increasing scrutiny around their careers.

The road trip for the Brewers started out with the offense mostly silent. They were shut out by the Giants 3-0 on Monday, the fifth time they have been shut out all season. However, it's also the second time it's happened in the last six games.
Scoring chances were very limited tonight. The first came in the second inning. Jake Bauers hit a one-out single, then Andrew Vaughn drew a walk following a challenge. It set up an early scoring chance, but Garrett Mitchell grounded into a double play to end the inning.
Meanwhile, Brandon Sproat worked through the first two innings scoreless, but did have to work around a couple situations. In the first, Heliot Ramos hit a fly ball to right, and Bauers appeared to have an easy catch. However, it bounced out of his glove, and Ramos reached second on the error. Ramos would steal third, but Sproat kept him there with a strikeout and groundout.
The Giants got two more baserunners in the second. Casey Schmitt lead off the inning with a single, but had to come out of the game with a leg injury. Pinch-runner Christian Koss stole second and Willy Adames drew a walk, but Grant McCray hit into a double play and Sproat got out of the inning.

Wasn't it 35 years ago when the Red-Hot Chili Peppers sang "Give it away, Give it away now?" That's exactly what the Angels did on this night. They gave it away; fortunately for Houston. Astros 6. Angels 4.
In the ninth inning, the Astros would do it by a matter of inches. First, Isaac Paredes would be slightly grazed by a pitch with the bases loaded which would tie things up. Moments later LaMonte Wade Jr., by the narrowest of margins, would draw a walk which gave Houston their first lead of the night. A fielding error by Angels reliever Sam Bachman would allow Yordan Alvarez to score an insurance run and that would be your final. It was an improbable comeback, just like Friday night in Chicago.
Even with the jubilation of the end result, much of the night was painted by a sad commentary. The Astros were fortunate to only be down by two runs at the end of the first inning. That was the boat the Astros found themselves in, which actually seemed like more like a sinking ship. The culprit once again was Tatsuya Imai, who allowed four walks and received the quick hook from Manager Joe Espada after tossing just 33 pitches. The issue was 21 of those pitches were ****** , which resulted in a disastrous start from Anaheim.
Upon Imai's departure, AJ Blubaugh would get Angels 3B Denzer Guzman to fly out to end the first frame, stranding three Angels runners. However, in the bottom of the third, Vaughn Grissom would drive in his second run of the night, hitting a solo shot to center field. It was Grissom's 7th home run of season. Josh Lowe would then reach on a throwing error by Jose Altuve. Moments later, Lowe would come around to score on a double by Jo Adell. By the time the third was in the books, the Angels had increased their lead to 4-0. Blubaugh would work 2 1/3 innings, allowing 2 hits, a run, while registering a strikeout.
In the fourth inning, Taylor Trammell would notch his fifth home run of the year on a two out blast to get the Astros on the board. In the bottom of the fourth, Christian Javier (W, 1-1) would enter in relief. Javier would go five innings, striking out seven while scattering three hits. Javier would strike out the side in the bottom of the 8th, throwing just 70 pitches through his performance. It's possible that Javier's outing will ultimately propel him back into the starting rotation next month.

Down a run with two outs in the seventh inning, Colson Montgomery attempted to score from first base. New York Yankees left fielder Max Schuemann made a one-hop throw to shortstop Anthony Volpe, who threw out Montgomery at the plate.
"There were two outs, we all know (Justin Jirschele), I think he's one of the best third-base coaches — he gets really good reads," Montgomery said. "I feel like I got a pretty good jump off it. Lefty (Brent Headrick) on the mound, I felt I couldn't really get too far off first base. I thought I got a pretty good jump and I thought I was going to score. They're good players, too, and made decent relays."
The Yankees added some breathing room with four runs in the eighth, featuring a three-run home run by Ali Sánchez, and defeated the Sox 9-5 in front of 22,357 at Rate Field on Monday.
The Sox saw an early three-run lead evaporate on the way to dropping the opener of the four-game series.

Folks who are getting stressed or tetchy about an apparent lack of transfer activity, in my own humble opinion, just don't get the positivity, the strong base and the long-term planning that our owner and directors have developed and put into place for this club — they deserve huge credit and support from the fan base.
I get that we all have different opinions and varied emotions when it comes to something like the transfer window, but for me it's profoundly disrespectful to think that they don't know what they're doing, that they're going to let the club slide this coming season or that they aren't working extremely hard (and probably have been for over a year) to identify and bring in the right players, and not just buy for the sake of it to keep the noisy minority quiet.
I've seen enough knee-jerk signings and misfits over the years to see out my life on this earth. I'm extremely confident in and proud of this current regime to do the right thing and to continue to steer this club in the right direction.
From where we've been for most of my life, this is all superb and dreamland territory — anyone who thinks they're resting on their laurels and not following a well-structured plan needs to calm down and keep the faith.
I think we'll be late into the transfer market because of the level of players we're targeting.
