The Los Angeles Dodgers placed right-hander Edgardo Henriquez on the 15-day injured list Monday with low back discomfort, ending his 2026 regular season. Los Angeles recalled Bobby Miller from Triple-A Oklahoma City as the corresponding roster move.
Henriquez had developed into a regular bullpen option during his first full major league season, making 61 appearances. MLB.com's Sonja Chen took to X, formerly Twitter, shortly after the club announced the transaction and noted the calendar implications of Henriquez's IL placement.

"We have really high expectations for this defense, so we were just expecting to do really good this week and that's what we did," said Alex Konilan, who had a fumble recovery for Law.
Law forced three turnovers in the third quarter alone, leading to 14 points - two touchdown runs by Witteman for 20 and 2 yards, respectively.
"The defense was on fire today," Witteman said. "Offensively, we started out a little bit slow, but the defense was right there to pick us up. We have a lot of trust in them and we believe in them, so for them to come through and just pick us up when we're down, it's huge for us."

One of the bigger question marks entering Detroit Red Wings training camp is seemingly answered − for now, at least.
Defenseman Simon Edvinsson, a restricted free agent, intends to report to camp even if he doesn't have a new deal, according to a report from The Athletic hockey insider Pierre LeBrun. LeBrun goes on to say Edvinsson is "patiently waiting for the Red Wings GM situation to iron itself out before resuming negotiations."
Edvinsson had 25 points (nine goals) in 72 games played this past season and finished with a plus-12.
Edvinsson should see a huge payday. Bowen Byram, the No. 4 overall pick from 2019, just received an extension from the Blackhawks with a hefty $12.5 million cap hit. The Wings can ill afford Edvinsson (No. 6 pick in 2021) to be on the sidelines awaiting a new contract when their season begins, as he is one of their top workhorses.

Ashley Sanchez set a record for most goals in an NWSL season by an American player, then she did herself two better.
Sanchez scored a scrappy goal in the 11th minute of the North Carolina Courage's contest with the Chicago Stars on Sunday, Sept. 6 for her 16th goal of the campaign.
That made her the top all-time American scorer in a single season, surpassing Crystal Dunn and Alex Morgan, each of whom had scored 15. Dunn reached the mark in 20 matches in 2015, while Morgan did so in 17 games in 2022.
Sanchez wasn't done.

Cooper has announced her commitment to play collegiately for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga at the NCAA Division I level.

With a pink "9-5" painted behind the batter's box at Covenant Health Park, the Knoxville Smokies honored Dolly Parton and took a 12-3 win over the Chattanooga Lookouts to open the final home series of the regular season Sept. 1.
The tribute to Parton, who died Aug. 25 at age 80, included a pregame moment of silence for the "Queen of Country Music."
"We won another one for Dolly, for sure," Smokies manager Lance Rymel told Knox News.
Smokies pitcher Kevin Valdez retired the first 11 batters of the game until issuing a four-pitch walk in the fourth inning. Knoxville left fielder Carter Trice responded in the bottom of the frame, depositing a three-run blast over the left field fence to put the Smokies on the board first.

The NCAA adopted a new age-based eligibility model in June that would allow many current and future Division I and II athletes to compete for

NEW DELHI: India captain Shubman Gill said "Test cricket won today" after Sri Lanka fought hard to force a draw in the second Test in Colombo on Thursday. India had controlled much of the match and were in a strong position to push for victory.
However, Sonal Dinusha produced another outstanding innings, scoring his second century of the match and staying unbeaten as Sri Lanka survived 154 overs.
The result saw India finish the two-Test series with a 1-0 victory.
Gill said India made every possible effort during Sri Lanka's long second innings but could not break through their resistance.
"We fielded for about 150 overs, we did everything that we can. I don't think we could have done anything differently. Keeping the weather in mind, we could talk about these things (enforcing follow-on) only in hindsight.
"You take the best decision you can in the moment and something didn't go our way. But it was a brilliant game and I think Test cricket won today," Gill said after the match here on Thursday.
Gill also gave credit to Sri Lanka for their fightback and said India could learn from the way the hosts responded under pressure.
"A lot of positives for us, learning from the opposition. The way they came back, it was tremendous to see. I don't think we could have done things differently. They bowled brilliantly in this game."

After collapsing to end the 2025 season, the Indianapolis Colts have high aspirations for a major rebound in 2026. Daniel Jones is healthy again, and everyone gets another year to work within head coach Shane Steichen's program. One of the more important players in a possible Colts rebound will be playmaker Alec Pierce.
However, at the time of this writing, Pierce remains on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list as he recovers from offseason ankle surgery. He has yet to practice with the team during training camp. But Tuesday finally provided a meaningful update about where Pierce stands and how the Colts want to progress before a Week 1 home matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.
When discussing Pierce's current status, Steichen sounded optimistic about the receiver returning to practice soon, even as soon as this week. With still a few weeks before the start of the regular season, that's a great sign for where Pierce stands if he can start practicing in short order:

It didn't take long at all for Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson to know that something was wrong after he swung through a 96 mph fastball in the third inning of Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
And now, the Cubs might be without their starting shortstop for an extended time.
Almost immediately after the swing, Swanson tossed his batting helmet out of frustration and leaned forward in pain. He knew right away that it was the kind of injury that could sideline him. And after a brief conversation with the training staff and manager Craig Counsell, Swanson exited the game into the clubhouse.
During the game, the team described Swanson's injury as "left side discomfort." But after the 11-4 loss to the Cardinals, Counsell confirmed that it was an oblique injury for Swanson.
The team placed Swanson on the 10-day Injured List, and he's set to undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.

The Indiana Fever have been at the center of what has seemed like one controversy after another throughout the 2026 season. Most recently, teh discourse surrounding the team has been dominated by a hard foul that Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington had on Sophie Cunningham.
In the aftermath of the foul, which led to all sorts of outrageous responses, White said that she didn't feel Carrington had any malicious intent behind what was an admittedly reckless play.
"Look, it was a hard foul," White said. "It did happen, and I thought it was the right call. One of the things about [Carrington] is that she's going to play her ***** off, man. She's going to compete. ***** ody's going to go walking in for a layup. I don't oppose the hard foul, but I also don't think that she intentionally went for the neck."
In the aftermath, many, such as Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, called for White to lose her job for not properly sticking up for Cunningham in their eyes.
"This isn't politics; your player got ***** aulted. Defend your player in the press conference. Be like, 'Yeah, that was a dirty play; she should've hit the showers.' The offensive line has become one of the more appreciated aspects of team-building after being forgotten about for years, it seemed. Teams now build up their offenses through the trenches before attempting to add the right quarterback and pieces to make plays happen.
The one spot specifically of the offensive line that gets built up is the interior positions. Some teams, like the Vikings, have made it a point to have reliable pieces in place to protect the interior aspects of the line.
We say this because PFF recently ranked the top guards in the NFL, and we wanted to know which Vikings guard made the cut. When it came down to it, they had Will Fries ranked barely in their top 32
They wrote about the ranking, saying, "Fries didn't quite live up to the five-year, $87 million contract he signed last offseason in his first year with Minnesota. His 61.8 PFF grade was much more in line with the level of play he showed in 2022 and 2023. Perhaps he can recapture the excellent form he displayed in 2024, but that performance came across fewer than 300 snaps. It's possible, but Fries will need to show meaningful improvement this season to justify his hefty contract."
Fries was one of the major investments that former general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah made last offseason. He remains in place and has shown to be a reliable starter, but perhaps in 2027, he can get more respect in the rankings than a 31st spot in it all.

Serie A side Inter are nearing an agreement with Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur for the transfer of Djed Spence.
A report by La Gazzetta dello Sport reveals that Inter and Tottenham are close to reaching an understanding on transfer fees for Djed Spence. The total deal is expected to be around €30 million plus bonuses.
Following the €20 million transfer of Denzel Dumfries to Real Madrid earlier this summer, Inter were left with the task of finding a reliable successor to the right-back role. The Nerazzurri had Spence and Al-Ittihad's wide midfielder Moussa Diaby in their sights, but negotiations for the latter turned out to be a complicated affair since the Saudi Arabian side had already received a tempting offer from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.
The objective right now for Inter is to put pen to paper on the contract for Spence before the start of the season. However, it is unlikely that he will be fit to start the opener since he just returned to training at Spurs following the post-World Cup break. Like his England teammate, Inter's new signing John Stones is also expected to miss the first match, and should Spence's transfer go through successfully, both should be fit for the second one.

The objective right now for Inter is to put pen to paper on the contract for Spence before the start of the season. However, it is unlikely that he will be fit to start the opener since he just returned to training at Spurs following the post-World Cup break. Like his England teammate, Inter's new signing John Stones is also expected to miss the first match, and should Spence's transfer go through successfully, both should be fit for the second one.
