Nearly two months to the day after the Browns surprised everyone by trading defensive end Myles Garrett to the Rams, Btowns owner Jimmy Haslam addressed the move in a Friday press conference.
"That was Andrew's decision," Haslam told reporters, referring to G.M. Andrew Berry. "I don't know what Andrew shared with you yesterday or in the past, that's something that — the conversations we've had for about a while before it was announced, and the Rams were a good partner there and kept it quiet. But, a decision like that, ownership is going to be involved, but it's Andrew's decision, Andrew's recommendation — in this case, ownership left it there."
Haslam was asked why he accepted Berry's recommendation.
"Well, one, I think we got a really good player back, and I think you saw him today — a really good player who's 25 years old and still on his rookie contract, so that's the biggest reason," Haslam said. "And then we picked up a one, a two and a three, and I think we all realize the three years we didn't have number one picks due to the Deshaun [Watson] trade — one of those years I don't think we even had a second — and the value of those picks, as we've proved the last two years, are tremendous. Myles [Garrett] is an unbelievable player. I was thinking the other night — Jim Brown, Joe Thomas, Myles Garrett — they're all first-ballot Hall of Famers, world-class people, and so it was not an easy decision, but we've made it, we're moving on and excited about Jared [Verse] and excited about those three draft picks."
It was a surprising change of position by Haslam and the Browns after the 2025 season, one in which Garrett set the single-season sack record and was named the NFL's defensive player of the year.

COOPERSTOWN, NY — The trio comes from Curaçao, Puerto Rico and California.
They played center field and second base.
They played for 18 different teams, with two of them teammates for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Now, here they are together, Andruw Jones, Carlos Beltran and Jeff Kent, who will be immortalized Sunday into the Baseball Hall of Fame, with a record 60 Hall of Famers expected to be in attendance, including Football Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman.
Most arrived in Cooperstown already, with Wade Boggs stealing the show Thursday afternoon by kneeling down and officially proposing to Debbie Boggs at the Otesaga Hotel, 50 years after already being married.

We've reached Day 51 in our countdown to the New Orleans Saints' 2026 season opener, so we're looking back to 1999 for our Saints Play of the Day. A rookie quarterback stunned the Dallas Cowboys in front of a big crowd when Jake Delhomme scored a 51-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Eddie Kennison. You can see it for yourself right here.
While the Saints jumped out to a surprising 10-0 lead early on, the Cowboys fought back to get ahead 17-10 midway through the third quarter. So imagine their surprise when Delhomme struck back to tie it all up? It was a great throw off of play action, traveling from the New Orleans 41-yard line to the Dallas 19, where Kennison corralled the catch and jogged into the end zone. The Cowboys had Hall of Famers like Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, and Deion Sanders on their side, and it didn't matter.
This is a game we've highlighted before; Saints cornerback Fred Weary picked off Aikman and scored the game-winning touchdown on a Smith fumble recovery. Good on him and Delhomme for making such a difference. This was a big win for a Saints team that really needed it. New Orleans went into the game with a 2-12 record, and this ended up being a great gift for fans on Christmas Eve. They couldn't sustain that success, but with wins so rare in those days, this became an easy rallying point for fans to enjoy late in a lost season.

Larry Williams' announcement of his retirement as track coach has echoes of the time he was hired.
Back in the 1970s and early 1980s, Hall of Fame coaches John McNichols and Marshall Goss ran Bloomington's boys track/cross country programs before turning them over to a pair of future Hall of Famers in Larry Williams and Charlie Warthan.
Some four decades later, Warthan is leaving North, and Williams, 64, is now 66.7% retired, deciding to give up teaching a few years back and now stepping away as South's head boys track coach after 44 years while retaining his spot in charge of the boys cross country team. It's time for the next generation to step up.
"I've been thinking all throughout the season," Williams said. "It was time. A lot of things with it, including going in more and more stressed than I wanted to be.
"I still love it, but we had nearly 100 boys, and there's only 16 events. I laughed that this year I was going to start using Medicare and Social Security and just became a grandfather. That put some things in perspective. Cross country also takes a lot of time, but you're coaching everyone to the same event instead of workouts for multiple events."

Former USMNT stars Tim Howard and Landon Donovan were prepared to **** ist fans old and new with the nuances of the beautiful game through their "Unfiltered Soccer" podcast, which has 92,000 subscribers on YouTube and releases a new episode every Tuesday on major streaming platforms. The two National Soccer Hall of Famers were teammates for several years and played together at the 2010 World Cup, where Donovan famously had the stoppage time goal against Algeria to send the side to the round of 16. It was the last time the United States won their group before doing so again this summer.
This year, the USMNT was kicked out of the round of 16 via a 4-1 dismantling at the hands of Belgium, the team that the United States lost to in the 2014 tournament and Howard had his record 16 saves. The recent match had added tension around a rescinded red card to the United States' leading scorer Folarin Balogun. It had an audience of 30 million viewers on FOX, which made it the most-watched soccer telecast in United States history.
"I think this was a successful World Cup for our US men's national team on the field," Howard said in an interview with USA TODAY Sports. "I do. They did some really good things, and of course, stumbling at that hurdle hurts. It was always going to hurt whenever whenever the team went out. But they could be proud of themselves, and they had a really good tournament."

PHILADELPHIA − So there was Eagles coach Nick Sirianni, back for his sixth season, a survivor in every sense of the word.
Two other coaches have been run out of Philadelphia ever since Andy Reid's 14-year reign ended in 2012. Chip Kelly's innovations ended up wearing out his players − and his welcome − by his third season. Doug Pederson won the franchise's first Super Bowl in the 2017 season, then refused to adapt after the 2020 debacle.
Sirianni inherited the aftershocks of Pederson's mess, in his first head coaching opportunity, and has since taken the Eagles to the playoffs in each of his five seasons, the Super Bowl twice, winning once.

The WNBA will make its NBC primetime debut this weekend as the network embarks on a summer of intriguing matchups before broadcasting the WNBA Finals in October, concluding the league's 30th season.

TORONTO — Hayley Wickenheiser and the Toronto Maple Leafs are parting ways after the hockey Hall of Famer spent eight seasons working in the NHL team's front office.
Wickenheiser said in an Instagram post the move came after "several discussions" with new Maple Leafs general manager John Chayka.
"During those conversations, my expectation was that I would be in a position to continue to have a significant impact within the organization," Wickenheiser said. "However, it became clear that his leadership group envisioned a different path."
Wickenheiser joined the Maple Leafs as ******* istant director of player development in August 2018, shortly after the end of her stellar playing career. She was named an ******* istant general manager in July 2022.

Every July, all 30 teams cram into two gyms in Las Vegas and we collectively overreact to basketball games that will be forgotten by Halloween. And yet, Summer League matters because it's the one place where every fanbase, from the contenders to the doomed, gets to squint at a 19-year-old and think, "Hey, he's gonna be a guy for us!"
Here are the 50 players I'll be watching, including one player from every team. Some are star rookies. Others are second-year guys who need to show something. A handful are just fighting for a chance in the league.
Peterson's lone Kansas season was a medical drama with a hamstring strain, mysterious cramps, and 11 frustrating absences. So naturally, he showed up in Salt Lake City and reminded everyone why he was still the second pick: 28 in his debut against Atlanta, including a 3 to answer a fourth-quarter push and another to break a tie in overtime. Offense may sell tickets, but every Baltimore Ravens fan can appreciate a great defense. This organization has long been known for fielding some of the NFL's stingiest. From Hall of Famers to perennial Pro Bowlers, standout defensive backs have become part of the organization's identity over the years.
That's why one recent league-wide ranking stands out. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler polled more than 70 NFL executives, coaches and scouts to determine the NFL's top 10 cornerbacks entering the 2026 season. Despite Baltimore once again fielding one of the league's projected top rosters, the Ravens failed to place a single cornerback among the top 10.

And it was not close.

Lopez has always had elite bat control, but this year he’s made technical improvements and ***** ped his quality of contact as well. Sure, the slash line is a little over his skis, but only slightly — the Statcast data suggests a .300 average and .464 slugging. And the cherry on the top of the sundae is the steals, with Lopez motoring for 30 or more this year. Lopez will justly get some down-ballot MVP love this year, an amazing turnaround for someone who was cut by the Blue Jays and Giants.
Freddie Freeman, 1B, Dodgers: I couldn’t view Freeman as a proactive pick in March, given that he was entering an age-36 season. But he continues to be remarkably consistent — note that his OPS+ is 141, 143 and 144 the last three years. Last year, Freeman slashed .295/.367/.502, this year it’s .293/.383/.502. Sometimes we have to consider different aging curves for future Hall of Famers.
Sal Stewart, 1B/2B/3B, Reds: He’s the runaway leader in challenges won among hitters, showcasing his elite eye. In line with that, Stewart has a modest strikeout rate and an excellent walk rate, while maintaining an exciting hard-hit profile. Stewart also checks the versatility box, stealing bases and covering three infield spots for Yahoo managers. Impressive stuff from someone in their age-22 season.

The July 2 tilt between Milwaukee Brewers flamethrower Jacob Misiorowski and electric Reds starter Chase Burns represented one of the great pitching matchups of the season for Milwaukee, though it has a long way to go to mirror the matchup exactly 63 years earlier.
On July 2, 1963, the Milwaukee Braves played deep into the night at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, when future Hall of Famers Warren Spahn and Juan Marichal waged a battle that won't be matched in modern baseball.
The Giants won the game in the 16th inning, 1-0, when Willie Mays belted a home run to left field against Spahn, making a winner of Marichal, who had matched Spahn over 16 innings.
The final lines: Marichal allowed eight hits with four walks and 10 strikeouts in 16 innings. Spahn, at 42 years old, allowed nine hits, one intentional walk and two strikeouts in 15⅓. Spahn threw 201 pitches, and Marichal threw 227.
The game lasted a relatively economical 4 hours and 10 minutes, finishing at 2:25 a.m. CT back in Milwaukee.

Paul Wackerly isn't just satisfied that he's playing in the U.S. Senior Open this week.
"I'm here to compete. I'm not just happy to make it," he said. "(My goal) is to finish as high as I can."
Wackerly, 53, who lives in Minerva, will be playing against more than 150 other golfers, including three other Ohioans and six World Golf Hall of Famers. The tournament begins July 2 at the Scioto Country Club in Columbus.
The field includes golf legends such as Stewart Cink, Ernie Els, Padraig Harrington, Bernhard Langer and Dave Love III.
"It's hard to get in the tournament, you know, so how many guys are actually going to make it from Stark County?" Wackerly said.

Las Vegas Aces guard Chelsea Gray will join Prime Video’s WNBA coverage as a player contributor, making select in-studio appearances on the pregame show for the remainder of the 2026 season, Front Office Sports reported Monday.
The only active four-time WNBA champion, Gray is a six-time All-Star who has built a legitimate broadcast résumé between WNBA seasons. She worked as an ACC Network ******* yst on two separate occasions, calling regular-season and NCAA Tournament games as part of the network’s Nothing But Net studio coverage, and contributed to the Sacramento Kings’ pre- and postgame broadcasts during the 2023-24 NBA season.
The move follows the same template Kelsey Plum has been operating under since May, when Prime Video announced the Los Angeles Sparks guard as a player contributor for select appearances throughout the season. On the NBA side, Kyle Lowry joined Amazon’s inaugural NBA coverage in September 2025 with what the streamer described as “increased responsibilities in the future,” responsibilities that materialized when Lowry stepped into the studio for select shows during the NBA playoffs.
The active-player contributor model has taken hold across the W this season, with Sophie Cunningham landing a comparable role at USA Sports.
Gray joins a studio team anchored by host Allie Clifton alongside Hall of Famers Cynthia Cooper, Swin Cash, and Teresa Weatherspoon, with Candace Parker, Lindsey Harding, and Tamera “Ty” Young also contributing. The active-player contributor model has taken hold across the W this season, with Sophie Cunningham landing a comparable role at USA Sports.

The Celtics missed out on trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo, as the Bucks reportedly sent him to the Miami Heat on Monday night. Now, the attention turns to what Boston will do with Jaylen Brown.
Boston made it clear it was willing to trade Brown for Antetokounmpo, and ESPN's Shams Charania reported that Brown was part of the package the Celtics proposed to the Bucks.
The Celtics could consider trading Brown, but that may not happen. Charania recently stated that Brad Stevens is not actively shopping Brown.
"Celtics president Brad Stevens has not actively shopped Brown in trade talks, sources said, but the franchise has now offered him twice for future Hall of Famers over the past four offseasons." Charania wrote on Monday. "In 2022, Brown was the centerpiece of Boston's proposal to the Brooklyn Nets for Kevin Durant."

Carolina Hurricanes center Jordan Staal tied an NHL playoff record when he scored in each of the first five games of the Stanley Cup Final.
That led to him winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP after the Hurricanes defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 in a near-perfect Game 6 on Sunday, June 14. Carolina won the series 4-2 for their first Stanley Cup championship since 2006.
