Over the past few decades, the majority of media and entertainment companies were characterized by the strength and ability of their content libraries and growth in subscribers. This framework is now evolving as streaming continues to mature and advertising becomes more data-backed. As a result, investors are now focusing on companies capable of turning customer relationships into high margins. Simply put, a key shift is underway, i.e., from owning greater IP (Intellectual Property) to owning distribution, data, and consumer engagement, which can provide support in making IP more valuable.
Moving forward, the broader market will reward companies capable of bringing advertising, streaming, theme parks, merchandise, and live experiences in the single customer ecosystem. This transition has been supporting The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), with Wall Street ***** ysts becoming optimistic despite increased competition.
The company is not being valued as a movie studio or an operator of theme parks. Rather, it is being seen as a consumer ecosystem company that can bring customers throughout parks, sports, streaming, and merchandise. This thesis is further strengthened by the recent quarterly results. Its revenues saw an increase of 7% YoY to reach $25.2 billion, while total segment operating income rose 21% YoY to $5.6 billion. Furthermore, its adjusted EPS grew from $1.61 to $2.06, with management reiterating full-year outlook despite a challenging economic environment.
Apart from the numbers, the breadth of the company's consumer engagement grabbed the attention of investors and ***** ysts. Robust spending and attendance through Experiences, success in the consumer products ***** ociated with franchises like Toy Story, along with ESPN viewership gains, highlight a business model capable of monetizing the same customer throughout multiple platforms. This is exactly what the market wants. The company wants to show that the strongest ***** et is not a single movie or a streaming service, but it is the network of relationships connecting them.
An ***** yst at Needham, Laura Martin, kept a "Buy" rating on The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS)'s stock with a price objective of $125. The ***** yst's reasoning is over and above the quarterly earnings. The thesis centers on the company's first-party data ecosystems, which are among the most valuable in the broader entertainment industry. It collects customer information throughout Disney+, ESPN, Hulu, cruises, theme parks, and consumer products. The management remains focused on integrating such datasets into the unified platform.

The data, released in a report from the National Retail Federation (NRF) and Hackett ****** ociates, indicates that major US ports handled 2.23 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) in June, reflecting a 13.2% year-on-year increase as importers moved cargo ahead of newly imposed tariffs and in response to international supply chain uncertainties.
However, this figure represents a modest decline of 0.7% from May, which appears to have marked the year's busiest month with 2.24 million TEU processed.
According to the forecast, July import volumes are projected at 2.21 million TEU, a 7.6% decrease from the same month last year.
For August, the report anticipates a further dip to 2.22 million TEU, down 4.2% year-on-year.
Despite these projected decreases, Global Port Tracker expects US ports to maintain higher import levels than in 2025 for the remainder of the year, although volumes are projected to steadily taper off.

Plus500 (LON:PLUS) reported record first-half results for 2026, supported by growth in customer activity, continued investment in acquisition and an expanding contribution from its non-over-the-counter business, including U.S. futures and prediction markets.
Group Chief Executive Officer David Zruia said the performance reflected the company's strategy of entering new markets, broadening its product range and increasing engagement with higher-value customers. He said Plus500 entered the second half with momentum and expected to deliver full-year results in line with current market expectations.

Customer income rose 24% year over year to approximately $461 million, a five-year high, while revenue increased 12% to about $463 million, its highest level in three years. Trading income, the group's principal revenue source, grew 15% to $441.8 million.
Elad Even-Chen, Group CFO, said the revenue mix was becoming less dependent on interest income, which declined as global rates fell, and increasingly supported by trading activity and customer engagement.

Serica Energy has said it will not increase its offer for Pharos Energy after competing bidder Ratio Petroleum Energy raised its proposal, effectively drawing a line under Serica's participation in the bidding battle at its current price.
The UK-listed oil and gas producer said Monday that its offer remains at a total value of 32.6683 pence per Pharos share, comprising 28.6683 pence in cash and a 4-pence special dividend. Serica described those financial terms as final, subject to limited exceptions under UK takeover rules.
The decision follows an increased offer announced by Ratio on August 7. Serica also noted that Ratio said it had secured irrevocable undertakings covering about 41.76% of Pharos' issued share capital.
Serica had entered the contest for Pharos on July 26 with a recommended cash acquisition at 32.6683 pence per share. That proposal surpassed an earlier Ratio transaction under which eligible shareholders stood to receive up to 28 pence per share, including Pharos' previously declared final dividend.
Serica said its decision not to raise the price reflected its disciplined approach to mergers and acquisitions. The company added that it continues to evaluate other opportunities in the UK North Sea and elsewhere.

I've been writing about Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG) for years, and my conviction has never been higher, because the company keeps doing the boring, hard things that compound over time: It protects its brands, invests in innovation, and quietly returns a lot of cash to shareholders even when the environment is rough.
Fiscal 2026 was not a blowout year for Procter & Gamble. Net sales grew 3%, organic sales rose 1%, and core earnings per share increased 1%. That's the kind of result many investors would shrug at. What matters to me is that those numbers landed right inside the company's guidance in a year that featured currency swings, higher energy and transportation costs, and uneven demand across regions.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
P&G's strategy is deliberately simple. It focuses on daily use categories where performance drives brand choice and seeks to deliver superiority in product, packaging, communication, retail execution, and value. It pairs that with what it calls "constructive disruption" and a heavy dose of productivity, meaning it constantly looks for ways to do the same work with fewer resources. The result is a business that rarely looks spectacular quarter to quarter but, over many years, keeps nudging growth and margins in the right direction.
This is not a sleepy soap company. In April, Procter & Gamble was named the top household products company on Fortune's America's Most Innovative Companies list for the third year in a row, with product innovation singled out as its biggest strength.

Layoffs are never easy, and I don't envy anyone in the position of delivering that news to an employee. There's no manual for it, and there's no training that can properly prepare you for it. But when a decision is made, I've grown to understand that the less you say, the better. **** ulus Media is no different from any executive or company in any other line of business. Layoffs are unfortunately a regular part of business, and the less you say, the easier it is to get back to business.
Late Friday, **** ulus Media released a statement on the departure of Greg Papa from KNBR. The 63-year-old legacy broadcaster was released by the company while he continues his battle with leukemia and the effects of his treatment. If the less you say is better, the statement by **** ulus Media should be the single best example of what not to do following layoffs.
With hundreds of people losing their opportunities in radio last week, Papa's departure stood out for good reason. It's been no secret that he continues to fight a health battle, even making a return to KNBR for a period last year.
In a business built on connection, Papa maintained his with the listening audience in San Francisco throughout his fight. The support he's received following the news of his departure from the station serves as proof of that connection.
In an obvious Friday news dump, **** ulus released a two-paragraph statement on Papa's departure from KNBR through the station's social media accounts. It read like any corporate statement on an employee departure would: crediting the resume of the person leaving, showing appreciation for the legacy Papa helped build, and essentially stating that the company could not comment on the reason behind the decision but hoped to have Papa back another day.

Alvopetro Energy Ltd (TSX-V:ALV, OTC:ALVOF, FRA:A6Y0) earlier this week reported another strong quarterly performance, with higher production, stronger commodity prices and continued progress at its flagship Murucututu natural gas project in Brazil supporting revenue and cash flow growth.
Speaking with Proactive, chief executive Corey Ruttan said average sales volumes increased 26% year over year to 3,067 barrels of oil equivalent per day. He added that the company's realized natural gas price approached US$11 per MCF during the quarter, while condensate and oil prices also strengthened significantly compared with the same period last year.
Ruttan said the combination of higher production and improved pricing generated revenue of just over US$19 million and funds flow from operations of US$14.1 million. He also highlighted an operating netback of more than US$59 per boe and an 86% netback profit margin, which he said demonstrated the benefits of the company's low-cost operations and Brazil's favourable royalty regime.
Operationally, the company continues to advance development at its wholly owned Murucututu project. Ruttan said the first well drilled during 2026 is ready to begin production, while the second well is currently being drilled and will be followed immediately by another well as part of an accelerated drilling programme.
The company has also brought forward capital spending originally planned for 2027 into 2026 to maintain drilling continuity and capture operational efficiencies. Alongside drilling activity, Alvopetro is expanding production facilities by approximately four times to accommodate future production growth. Upgrades to the gas processing facility are also expected to be completed by the end of September, allowing increased gas production ahead of the larger infrastructure expansion later in the year.

There's no need to let the AP top 25 and Coaches Poll have all of the fun — let's talk about another poll. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will start the season ranked No. 3 in the first FWAA-NFF Super 16.
NOTES:
Ohio State, last season's Big Ten runner-up, opens the season at No. 1 after receiving 28 of 56 first-place votes. It marks the Buckeyes' 25th all-time appearance atop the preseason poll and their first since 2015. Only Alabama (62) and Georgia (37) have more No. 1 appearances.
Oregon begins the season at No. 2 following an appearance in last season's College Football Playoff Semifinals, marking the highest preseason ranking in program history. The Ducks' previous best was No. 4 in 2024.
Notre Dame also enters the season at its highest preseason ranking ever at No. 3, surpassing its previous best of No. 6 in 2025 and 2022.
Texas is No. 4, joining Ohio State and Georgia as the only teams to open each of the last three seasons ranked in the top five.
Defending national champion Indiana is No. 6 and makes its first appearance in the preseason poll in program history.
Miami (FL) is the ACC's lone ranked team at No. 7, while Texas Tech, at No. 11, is the Big 12's highest-ranked team.
The SEC leads all conferences with seven ranked teams, followed by the Big Ten with five, the Big 12 with two, the ACC with one and the FBS Independents with one.
Since 2015, the eventual national champion has been ranked among the top six of the preseason poll a total of nine times. Alabama in 2017 is the only national champion during that span to open the season at No. 1.
ABOUT THE FWAA-NFF SUPER 16 POLL:
The FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll was established at the conclusion of the 2013 season by long-time partners, the Football Writers ****** ociation of America (FWAA) and the National Football Foundation (NFF). Voters rank the top 16 teams in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, and the results will be released every Sunday of the 2026 season; the individual votes of all members will also be made public. The first regular season poll will be released on Tuesday, Sept. 8 (to account for Labor Day games), and the final poll will be released Sunday, Dec. 6. The pollsters consist of FWAA writers and College Football Hall of Famers who were selected to create a balanced-geographical perspective. The poll utilizes a computer program designed by Sports Systems, a TicketManager company, to compile the rankings and Kellner Ratings to publish the individual votes.
Kind of an interesting note here… Notre Dame received the second most 1st place votes with 9. When you look at the individual ballots, however, you can see a few things that stick out about Notre Dame's ranking — but the one that sticks out the most comes from former Notre Dame defensive lineman, Chris Zorich, who ranked the Irish at No. 10 to start the season.

The 2027 NFL Draft will take place in Washington, D.C. next year. In that draft, the Vikings still have their first-round pick, but a lot could happen in the next 9 months. Before then, though, there will be plenty of speculation and buildup for the team and who they may add to the roster through the draft in a class that many are saying could be one of generational wealth.
Pro Football Network recently released the latest 2027 NFL mock draft of the cycle. Within that mock, they have the Vikings landing SEC running back Kewan Lacy. The All-American running back is poised for a big season in the toughest conference, and it could lead to him becoming the top running back in the class.
They explain the Lacy pick, writing, "Less than a year out from the 2027 NFL Draft, there doesn't appear to be a clear favorite for the class's RB1 mantle. That doesn't mean there's no talent, though, as Ole Miss's Kewan Lacy showed in 2025. Lacy led the FBS in carries (306) and led the SEC in rushing touchdowns (24), while displaying dual-threat ability with 29 receptions for 177 yards. The Minnesota Vikings are in desperate need of a premium rusher if they're to climb back to relevance in the NFC."
Lacy would become the instant RB1 with the Vikings if he landed with them. Arguably, he could get that type of buzz anywhere, but the Vikings would be a homerun spot for him and Minnesota would benefit by allowing them to establush a run game once again.
This article originally appeared on Vikings Wire: Could the Vikings land a new RB in the 2027 NFL Draft?

The Seattle Seahawks and general manager John Schneider have a history of treading cautiously with players who have troubled pasts, but sometimes the the possibility of adding a promising young talent is too good not to explore.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported on Sunday that the Seahawks hosted former Detroit Lions first-round pick Terrion Arnold for a visit on Sunday. Arnold, who was drafted 24th overall in 2024, was released by the Lions on June 29 after he was arrested on eight total felony counts ranging from kidnapping to armed robbery. Here's a summary from the last time Arnold's name was linked to the Seahawks:
Authorities accused Arnold of orchestrating the abduction and beating of three men whom prosecutors believe were wrongly suspected of stealing luxury goods and $100,000 in cash from Arnold's AirBnB rental in Florida. Prosecutors further claim that although Arnold was not present at the time of the abduction and beating, he directed his ****** ociates to hold, beat, and pistol-whip the victims.
Arnold posted bond and is eligible to sign with any team. He previously visited the Houston Texans in early July.
The visit comes during third-round pick Julian Neal's ongoing absence as he navigates through a leg injury. Although head coach Mike Macdonald said Neal is not expected to be sidelined long-term, the team's interest in another cornerback indicates Neal's status is definitely something to monitor in the coming days.

The Detroit Lions tried out former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud on Sunday, ESPN's Marc Raimondi reported. McCloud signed with the Falcons as a free agent in 2024 and recorded a career-high 62 catches for 686 receiving yards as the team's starting slot receiver.
However, the 29-year-old return specialist struggled to replicate that success during his second season in Atlanta. McCloud was barely involved on offense in 2025, and after being listed as a healthy scratch for three consecutive games, he was released following the team's Week 7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Something seemed to be off in the Falcons' wide receiver room last season. Both McCloud and Darnell Mooney struggled after breakout years in 2024, and the team fired WRs coach Ike Hilliard after a 30-0 loss to the Carolina Panthers.
The day before McCloud was released, the veteran wide receiver was sent home from practice without much explanation from former Falcons head coach Raheem Morris.
"I wouldn't say it is a disciplinary thing," Morris said at the time. "More a football thing with something we have to get straightened out."

With the explosion of conference expansion in recent years, it can be harder than ever for friends and family of college football players to attend games in person due to the increased geographic ground to cover.
Miami running back Mark Fletcher Jr.'s mom Linda makes it a priority to get to her son's games, but has a notable dislike for flying. Her commute to Hurricanes games just got a whole lot more comfortable thanks to former Miami wide receiver Michael Irvin.
Irvin presented Linda Fletcher with a custom Miami Hurricanes RV that will take her across the country in style this season. The top of the RV reads "Fetching Fletchers", and is outfitted with the white, orange and green colors of the Hurricanes' jerseys.
Fletcher Jr. spoke to Kirk Herbstreit and Joey Galloway last January about his mom's dedication to driving wherever it takes to watch her son play.

Former Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold reportedly visited the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz.
Arnold, a 2024 first-round draft pick of the Lions, was released by Detroit after his June arrest in connection to an armed robbery and kidnapping case in Florida. Arnold is facing felony charges that carry a potential sentence of up to life in prison.
Back in July, the Seahawks were one of four teams that Arnold's agent, Nicole Lynn, said had contacted Arnold with interest in potentially signing the free agent cornerback. Arnold reportedly worked out for the Houston Texans at that time in July. Per his agent, Arnold also heard from the Indianapolis Colts and the New York Jets.
Across two seasons with the Lions, Arnold played in and started 24 games. The Alabama alum totaled 91 tackles, 18 passes defended and one interception.
Arnold was limited to just eight games played in 2025 as he underwent season-ending shoulder surgery in December.

Love Island USA's JaNa Craig is preparing herself for another chapter of her life as she hits 30. Speaking to People at Lollapalooza, the 29-year-old spoke about her upcoming plans and career opportunities.
"I turn 30 at the end of this year. It's a whole new chapter. I'm so excited," Craig shared. "I learned so much in my 20s, so I'm so grateful and extremely excited for what the 30s will bring me."
"I try not to let fear ever get control of me. I like to embrace the unknown. So knowing that I have no idea what's gonna happen next is what's the most exciting part of it all," she told the outlet.
Craig is hoping to embark on a new part of her chapter by saying "yes to everything." This has led to an "exciting" script film project. "I've never done scripted. I'm always little miss unscripted [so I can] say what I want. So it's really fun to channel into a new character," she teased.
"I can't share exactly what it is, but when you guys see it, it's so funny," she added. "I'll give you a hint. It goes really good with who you guys first met me off. That's the only hint I can give you. You'll see very soon."

Melissa Barrera has shared that her firing from the "Scream" franchise by producers over her social media posts relating to Israel and Gaza wasn't "the first time that that has happened to someone, and it won't be the last."
Speaking in a podcast interview with Latino USA, Barrera agreed with host Maria Hinojosa's ******* ertion that she had been "blacklisted" by the series producers, but added that "a lot of people got fired from their jobs, not just in the entertainment industry … for basically saying Palestinians deserve human rights and they shouldn't be getting bombed and attacked in this way."
"It's sad to me that there are interests that are more important to certain people, of power and money … They will do everything they can to shut people up from saying that people deserve to live, that children deserve to grow up," Barrera continued. "I try to continue to have hope because I do feel that there's a lot more people out there that care — that actually do care about each other — and that understand that we're all connected. We can't turn a blind eye to something that is happening on the other side of the world just because it's on the other side of the world, because, before we know it, it's right here on our doorstep. People, especially in this country, realized that this year."
Barrera was the lead of the "Scream" franchise in the 2022 series revival and its 2023 follow-up "Scream VI." As a seventh sequel was being developed, producers at Spyglass Media announced that Barrera would not be a part of future entries, describing the actor's posts about recent military attacks by Israel on Gaza as "antisemitism" that "flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech." In turn, Barrera released a statement condemning antisemitism, Islamophobia and "hate and prejudice of any kind" and that she would "continue to speak out for those that need it most and continue to advocate for peace and safety, for human rights and freedom."
"We just have to name things for what they are, even if there's consequences," Barrera said on her Latino USA interview. "I was one of a lot of people that faced consequences, but I'm on Broadway now. I'm still here. … It took me in a direction of actually taking more control of my life and not allowing other people to have control over my life."

The Philadelphia Eagles aren't waiting until the preseason opener to evaluate potential roster additions. According to the NFL transaction wire, Philadelphia hosted defensive tackle David Blay, running back Ja'Quinden Jackson, and linebacker Tarron Jackson for free-agent visits Sunday.
Workouts and visits don't guarantee a signing. Teams routinely evaluate available players during training camp to ensure they have up-to-date medical information and a list of potential replacements in case of injuries.
Still, Philadelphia's three visitors are worth examining. Blay is a local product coming off his final season at Miami. Ja'Quinden Jackson offers size and power at running back, while Tarron Jackson is a familiar face after beginning his NFL career with the Eagles.
Blay may be the most intriguing developmental prospect of the three. The Levittown, Pennsylvania, native signed with New England as an undrafted rookie after playing at West Chester, Louisiana Tech and Miami. The Patriots released him Friday, allowing Philadelphia to bring him in two days later. New England lists Blay at 6-foot-2 and 292 pounds. He played 46 games during his college career, finishing with 129 tackles, 11.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one pass breakup. He recorded 28 tackles during his final season at Miami. The Patriots signed him May 8 before releasing him Aug. 7.
Blay's most productive season came at Louisiana Tech in 2024. He recorded 46 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks while earning first-team All-Conference USA honors. Philadelphia already has Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Moro Ojomo and Byron Young occupying prominent places in the defensive tackle rotation. Gabe Hall is among the players competing for a reserve role. That makes Blay more of a developmental option than someone likely to earn immediate playing time.

In the wake of the passing of Hall of Fame Boston Celtics forward Don Nelson, the Celtics have released a statement. After having left us at 86 years of age, the legendary Boston alum touched countless lives across the NBA and beyond it over the course of his career in the league as a player, head coach, and an executive. "Don Nelson's success as a Hall of Fame Coach is so vast, that it could overshadow his playing career, but it would be a mistake to do so," recalled the Celtics release.
"A favorite of (iconic Celtics general manager and head coach) Red Auerbach's, 'Nellie' was a tough and reliable all-around player whose tenacity and ability to 'think the game' was on full display throughout his 11 seasons with the Boston Celtics," it continues, "where he was a key member of five championship teams across two eras."
"His most celebrated moment as a player came in Game 7 of the 1969 NBA Finals against his former team the Los Angeles Lakers, when Nelson converted one of the most famous shots in playoff history—a foul-line jumper which dropped through the basket after hitting the back rim and bouncing several feet straight up," it adds.
"The shot, taken with just over a minute to go in the game and the Celtics clinging to a 103–102 lead, was an essential play in helping secure Boston's 11th NBA ****** le in 13 seasons," closes the release.
"Nellie's number 19 was raised shortly after he retired following yet another championship season in 1976. The Celtics extend our deep condolences to Nelson's family, loved ones, and everyone he touched through his rich and impactful life in basketball and beyond."

goeasy (TSE:GSY) reported second-quarter adjusted diluted earnings per share of C$1.02, improving from an adjusted diluted loss per share of C$1.90 in the first quarter, as the non-prime lender reduced originations, released credit-loss provisions tied to a smaller loan book and strengthened its liquidity position.

Interested in Medical Facilities Co.? Here are five stocks we like better.
Second-quarter financial results improved: Revenue rose 7.8% year over year to $63.1 million, while operating income increased 9.4% to $9.6 million and EBITDA grew 7.1% to $12.5 million. Growth was driven by a higher-value mix of orthopedic and spine procedures despite a 2.3% decline in total surgical cases.
Case volumes were mixed: Outpatient procedures increased 0.9%, but inpatient, observation and pain-management cases declined. Management expects new pain and orthopedic physicians at Arkansas Surgical Hospital in September to help rebuild volumes.
Shareholder returns and liquidity remained strong: The company repurchased about 1.34 million shares for $17.1 million in Q2 and had $64.1 million in cash at quarter-end, including $58 million held corporately. Medical Facilities had no corporate-level bank debt after repaying its credit facility in 2024.
Medical Facilities (TSE:DR) reported higher second-quarter revenue, operating income and EBITDA, with results supported by a shift toward higher-value orthopedic and spine procedures despite a modest decline in total surgical case volume.

United Parcel Service, Inc. (NYSE:UPS) shares surged in premarket trading on July 28 after the package-delivery company reported a second-quarter beat and raised its 2026 outlook. Revenue reached $22.83 billion, above the $21.81 billion consensus estimate, while adjusted earnings of $1.76 per share exceeded the $1.66 estimate. UPS now expects full-year revenue of approximately $91.2 billion, up from $89.7 billion, and adjusted earnings of approximately $7.22 per share.
The more important development was operational. Eighteen months after announcing an accelerated reduction in lower-margin Amazon volume, UPS said it had completed the planned "glide down" and the related phase of its network reconfiguration. That did not end the Amazon relationship: Amazon had accounted for more than 13% of UPS revenue at its peak, but its contribution had fallen to 8.8% by the end of the first quarter.
That strategy was always supposed to make UPS smaller before making it more profitable. The second quarter offered the clearest evidence yet that the second part may finally be starting. U.S. Domestic average daily package volume fell 3.3%, but revenue rose 6% as revenue per piece increased 9.3%. Adjusted domestic operating profit increased 21%, lifting the segment's adjusted margin to 8% from roughly 7% a year earlier.
Still, the margin remains well below the International segment's 12.4%, and fuel surcharges contributed to the stronger revenue-per-piece result. The core tension is whether UPS has created a durably more profitable domestic network, or whether fuel surcharges and temporary restructuring effects made one quarter look better than the underlying cost structure.
The bull case is that UPS has begun to prove the logic behind sacrificing Amazon volume: fewer packages can produce more revenue and profit when the packages that remain carry better yields.
