The exchange-traded fund (ETF) market's August numbers look flawless on the surface, until you look at where the money actually went.
The industry held $16.4 trillion in ******* ets through August 31, 2026, with $180 billion in fresh capital pouring in that month alone, 3.8 times the historical August average and the strongest August on record for fund inflows, State Street reported.
New fund creation has been equally prolific, with 1,023 ETFs debuting in the first eight months of 2026, a 52% jump from the previous year's pace.
Active strategies represent more than 80% of the year's new products, and about 25% of August's 134 launches used leveraged or inverse structures, FactSet noted.
Among August's new launches were 18 single-stock ETFs, most of them targeting semiconductor companies to tap into the artificial intelligence infrastructure buildout.

Six Anthropic cofounders made their debut on the Forbes 400 list of America's wealthiest people on Tuesday, with a combined net worth of $93 billion. Daniela Amodei, Dario Amodei, Tom Brown, Jack Clark, Jared Kaplan, and Sam McCandlish are each worth an estimated $15.5 billion, according to Forbes.
The six cofounders left OpenAI in 2021 to found Anthropic and have built the company into a significant competitor in the artificial intelligence industry, partly through the popularity of its Claude chatbot. Their fortunes rose in May, when Anthropic closed a funding round that more than doubled the estimated value of their individual stakes of roughly 1.6% each, according to Forbes. A seventh cofounder holds Canadian citizenship and does not appear on the list.
The Anthropic group ranked among the most prominent of 34 first-time entrants to this year's Forbes 400, which set a record minimum net worth of $4.4 billion, up from $3.8 billion in 2025. America's 400 wealthiest people are collectively worth $8 trillion, up from $6.6 trillion a year ago. The 34 newcomers account for $321 billion of that total.

The No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs are debuting all-white uniforms against the Western Ketnucky Hilltoppers. Georgia will wear white pants, white jerseys and white helmets for the first time in school history.
Georgia has worn alternate uniforms four times during the coach Kirby Smart era. The Dawgs are 4-0. Georgia still traditionally wears a white or red jersey along with silver britches and a red helmet.
The Bulldogs wore black jerseys in a 2016 home win (35-21) over Louisiana Lafayette. In Georgia's last road trip to Arkansas, back in 2020 quarterback Stetson Bennett saved the day after a slow start. Georgia wore red pants and slightly altered white uniforms in the 37-10 win.

NEW YORK — Defense is supposed to be George Lombard Jr.'s superpower, but the Yankees rookie is in the midst of a serious fielding slump.
The shortstop now has six errors in six consecutive games after booting a ground ball in Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Astros. The bizarre streak continued on a bizarre play in the eighth inning, as Lombard, on the run, bounced the ball to and nearly collided with third baseman José Caballero, who then committed an error of his own when he airmailed a throw to first.
While it was Caballero's throw that allowed a run to score, it was Lombard's half of the play that drew attention after yet another mishap. Afterward, the frustrated 21-year-old acknowledged that he needs to "clean up" his defense, especially with the Yankees trying to catch the Rays for the division lead and fend off the incoming Red Sox for the American League's top Wild Card spot.
"I don't know. It's something you're trying to figure out," Lombard, who made just one error in his first 14 MLB games, said when asked why he's had such a tough time in the field lately. "Obviously, it's not acceptable. Can't happen at this level. If you make your pitchers have to get extra outs, it just makes it way harder on us."
Meanwhile, Aaron Boone said, "I don't think so" when asked if Lombard, who has played everyday since debuting on Aug. 4, could benefit from a day off. Instead, the manager said that he has "total confidence" that Lombard will put this unusual stretch "in the rearview mirror."

Size isn't everything in China's IPO markets.
Unitree, perhaps China's most famous humanoid robotics maker, is in the middle of an initial public offering on Shanghai's STAR market, the city's board for tech startups, with a trading debut expected for this week. Then, later this week, the fast-fashion platform Shein will reportedly start its own IPO in Hong Kong, with shares potentially debuting as soon as Aug. 28, according to Reuters.
Shein's IPO dwarfs Unitree's, with the fast fashion giant hoping to raise as much as $3 billion, roughly three times what Unitree is targeting. And yet Unitree's IPO is getting most of the attention: Retail investors are scrambling to buy into the company, and secondary markets are predicting a massive jump in valuation after the startup's debut.
Unitree may be smaller and younger compared to Shein, which has a decade of global expansion under its belt. But in the eyes of investors, the robot maker is the more exciting bet, as appetites shift to AI and hardware, and away from e-commerce and internet platforms.
Unitree, founded by ***** Xingxing in 2016, has become a fixture in China's pop culture, thanks to its robots' dance routines at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, China's most-watched television broadcast.
Unitree is raising 6.1 billion Chinese yuan ($904 million) in its IPO, at a market valuation of around $9 billion. The company claimed last week that the retail portion of its offering was more than 8,000 times oversubscribed.

After finishing sixth in the recent Commonwealth Games while debuting a new routine, the Olympic pommel horse gold medallist went straight back to training aiming to correct what went wrong.

Carrying four quarterbacks on a 53-man regular season roster is exceptionally rare in the modern NFL. Most of the examples of it happening include paperwork tricks and versatile signal callers like Taysom Hill during his New Orleans Saints days.
For the sake of maintaining depth at every other position, the formula is clear. One starter. One backup. One third stringer who spends most weeks either inactive or dipping down to the practice squad.

If his early camp performances are any indication, Brock Purdy could be gearing up for his best season yet with the San Francisco 49ers.
Purdy has already proven to be a dynamic NFL starter, making 45 starts for San Francisco since debuting in the league in 2022; in those outings, he's posted a 30-15 record. He has thrown for 11,685 yards and 84 touchdowns to just 37 interceptions over his four seasons. But as the 49ers shared the field with the Tennessee ****** ans for a joint practice session this week, he showed he might be ready to take things to the next level this year.
"This was a practice with QB Brock Purdy in total control," ESPN's Nick Wagoner reported. "Not counting him spiking the ball once in two-minute, I had Purdy at 21-of-27 on the day with no interceptions and at least three for sure touchdowns...even [Kyle] Shanahan had to give Purdy his props after, noting that he had 'a ****** of a day'."
Purdy struggled with injuries last year, making just nine appearances for the 49ers – his fewest games played since his rookie season. But when he was on the field, he started each game and led the 49ers to a 7-2 record in those outings while tying his career-best completion percentage (69.4%). A tradition dating back to the 2022 season, debuting on the podcast formerly known as the One Foot Down podcast now, returns for a fifth season.
Synopsis: Obviously, you root for Notre Dame, which means you root for every player on the roster. But there are certain guys on the team who lease **** e in your heart. Whether it's because of their personal story, recruiting pedigree, play style, jersey number, or some other je ne sais quoi you appreciate, these guys are the ones who make you say, "that's my boy" when they make a play.
Catch: As a somewhat arbitrary restriction, you have to limit your list to five players. And as a not-totally-arbitrary restriction to make it more interesting, I suggest you limit yourself to one player per position. That's what I'll be doing anyway, and this year I have to start from scratch after an exodus of my entire roster of boys. So better get to it.
This is the most prominent player you'll see on this list. It's not really in keeping with the spirit of it to go for all the top guys who are going to make every single play, but it's smart to invest stock in one low-risk player you'll get to cheer for regularly. So I can indulge in an RB1 who's been overlooked by many this offseason.

For most big-leaguers, rehab outings are just about getting the work in. For Kyle Harrison, there was an actual objective.
When Harrison made his lone rehab start in Grand Chute on July 31, he wanted to use it as a low-stakes opportunity to throw his changeup and throw it a lot.
After debuting the brand-new pitch to much aplomb and fantastic results in spring training, Harrison has refrained from using it prominently during the season.
The changeup is hovering at just 10% usage, trailing his four-seamer (58%) and slurve (31%). The most Harrison has thrown it in a game was 17 times and a 16.8% rate on April 26, but since then he's gone over 10% usage only three times.
When he has thrown it, the results haven't been great. Opponents are batting .273 and slugging .485 against the pitch with two homers in 33 at-bats. Harrison hasn't generated more than two changeup whiffs in a game all year.

The Milwaukee Brewers, who acquired catcher Bo Naylor and right-handed reliever Codi Heuer in a trade with the Guardians on Saturday morning, had a very quiet lead up to Monday's trade deadline.
The prize of the trade deadline, left-hander Tarik Skubal, went to the mighty Dodgers on Saturday night as the rich got richer. Since that deal, rumors swirled that the Brewers would look to counter the move with some help of their own. It took almost all day, but the Brewers finally added a few reinforcements right before the deadline. We're here to grade those deals.
The first deal of the day came just after 2 p.m. CT, as the Brewers made an intra-division trade with the rival Cardinals. In the deal, right-handed starter Dustin May and left-handed reliever JoJo Romero joined Milwaukee, with outfield prospects Josiah Ragsdale and Alexander Frias heading to St. Louis in the return.
May, who turns 29 next month, has shown flashes of his potential throughout his career. After being drafted in the third round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Dodgers, he entered 2019 as the team's No. 3 prospect (MLB No. 69) before debuting later that year. He got off to a solid start but immediately dealt with injuries — between 2019 and 2023 (five seasons), he made just 46 appearances (34 starts) with a 3.10 ERA, 3.76 FIP, and 174 strikeouts across 191 2/3 innings.
May then missed all of 2024 due to a pair of injuries, including this wild story where a bite of salad nearly killed him. He made his return with the Dodgers last year and struggled to a 4.85 ERA and 4.74 FIP over 104 innings before being shipped to Boston at the trade deadline, where he struggled even more with a 5.40 ERA and 5.39 FIP over 28 1/3 innings.
