KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs cornerback Mansoor Delane was questionable to return to Kansas City's season opener against the Broncos Monday night after the sixth overall pick in the NFL draft hurt his shoulder in the first quarter Monday night.
Delane intercepted Broncos quarterback Bo Nix the first time he was thrown at on the opening series of the game. He stumbled after making the catch and went to the ground untouched, and Delane was not on the field for the Broncos' ensuing series.
Delane missed the majority of the offseason and the first preseason game because of an injured shoulder.
Chiefs linebacker Cooper McDonald also left in the first quarter with a knee injury. His return was questionable.

San Francisco 49ers RB Kaelon Black had a game-high 14 carries for 65 yards against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1. He added a five-yard reception on his lone target.
SOURCE: ESPN
Why It Matters: For years, the 49ers have steadfastly refused to utilize a second running back in any meaningful way when Christian McCaffrey has been available. On Thursday, they did just that, giving the rookie 14 rushing attempts -- that was four more than McCaffrey, and five more than last year's RB2 Brian Robinson had in any game. Black delivered, too, running hard and posting a healthy 4.6 yards per carry. You never want to read too much into Week 1, and there were extenuating circumstances with the game taking place in Australia, but Black did enough to warrant adding off waivers if he's out there.

PALOS DE LA FRONTERA, Spain (AP) — Matthew Brennan enhanced his status as the standout sprinter at the Spanish Vuelta by winning his fourth stage Tuesday in the 21-year-old British rider's Grand Tour debut.
Brennan was delivered to the front of the bunch with 100 meters left by an ideal leadout from Wout van Aert, his star teammate at Visma-Lease a Bike who already won two stages at this Vuelta.
Crossing the line, Brennan raised his right hand with four fingers out in a victory salute. Bryan Coquard was second and Vito Braet third. Van Aert was sixth at the end of a 181-kilometer (112.5 miles) ride in more blazing heat from Cortegana to Palos de la Frontera.
After 16 stages, overall leader Enric Mas retained his advantage in the red jersey of 2 minutes, 6 seconds ahead of Felix Gall. Primož Roglič is a further 4 second back in third.
Wednesday's stage is another flat ride into Seville before a 32.5-km (20.2-mile) time trial Thursday that could be key for Roglič.

Delonte West is recognized as one of the NBA's most tragic stories, having fallen on hard times after his career was cut short in 2012. However, during his playing days, the guard was prolific enough to garner attention from one of the league's best.
West famously represented teams such as the Dallas Mavericks, the Seattle SuperSonics, and the Boston Celtics during his seven-year NBA career. Still, his stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers as LeBron James' teammate is discussed more often.
Delonte West's tenure in Cleveland began after being traded to the Cavaliers by the Seattle SuperSonics during the 2007-08 season. While speaking about joining the Cavs on a Kick livestream, West revealed that LeBron James recruited him during a game between Cleveland and Seattle. He shared:
"I was in Seattle, you know, half the year; at the end of the year, they went to Oklahoma. We were playing Cleveland out in Seattle like, you know, the first month of the season, and I was cooking. Then, I remember we were sitting at the foul line, and James, he was like, 'Man, you know I've been, you know, I followed you in college.' You know what I'm saying? He's like, 'You remember that time I came to Philly at the Palestra to watch you play?' And I was like, 'Yeah, I remember.'"
"He was like, 'Man, you want to come play with Cleveland?' I thought he was just doing a veteran trick," West continued. "I thought he was just trying to get me out of my game by, you know, getting familiarity, but he was serious."

Twenty-one years ago, the White Sox swept the Astros in the World Series to end an 88-year championship drought, bringing baseball jubilation to the south side of Chicago. Occasional regular-season interleague series followed until 2013, when Houston made the move from the NL Central to the AL West, inviting the possibility that the two franchises could meet far more frequently in October. But that has occurred just once in the years since, with the Astros eliminating the White Sox in the 2021 ALDS en route to the pennant and sending the White Sox spiraling into a dark period for the franchise while Houston was in the middle of its golden era.
Five years later, the White Sox have emerged from their deep rebuild, and the Astros are desperately trying to keep their competitive window open. And in an ultra-weak American League (particularly outside the AL East), an unlikely race has surfaced between the White Sox and Astros, the current Central and West leaders, to claim the No. 2 seed and the valuable first-round bye that comes with it. As such, this week's four-game series at Daikin Park carried a ton of weight with October fast approaching. The Astros took advantage of the opportunity, taking three of four to close the gap with the White Sox to just 1.5 games.
Here are five takeaways from this week's series in H-Town.
Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2026 NFL season
When a team moves on from a general manager, it's natural to reflect on their tenure and contemplate how the moves they did and didn't make impacted the trajectory of the organization. Without question, the most significant transaction recently fired GM Dana Brown executed during his three-plus years leading the Astros' front office was trading outfielder Kyle Tucker to the Cubs in exchange for three players: infielder Isaac Paredes, then-top prospect and recent first-round pick Cam Smith and right-hander Hayden Wesneski. While Brown experienced several other successes and missteps during his time as Houston's baseball ops leader, that trade — and how much these three players end up contributing to the Astros — will define his tenure.

The Mavericks' minority owner, Mark Cuban, reacted to the NBA's recent verdict in the Kawhi Leonard salary-cap circumvention controversy with the Clippers.
"Congrats, Pablo," wrote Cuban on X.
NBA fans took to social media and saw the billionaire businessman's two-word response. They flooded the comment section with criticism, calling Cuban out for backtracking on his comments about Pablo Torre, the investigative journalist who first reported the story.
"Not sure how you thought they were innocent. This smelled like rotting fish from the beginning."
"Man…you were so wrong in this one. Always side with the smarter people…Pablo is much smarter than Ballmer. And Pablo actually works for a living."

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Spencer Jones homered and drove in three runs, Jazz Chisholm Jr. also went deep and finished with three hits, and the New York Yankees pulled away Tuesday night for a 7-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.

The most intriguing position battle on the Los Angeles Rams' roster this summer is coming down to the wire. All offseason, Stetson Bennett and Ty Simpson were competing for the QB2 job behind Matthew Stafford and after three preseason games, Sean McVay still hasn't made up his mind.
What we do know is that the Rams will keep all three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster. He just hasn't decided whether Simpson or Bennett will be the QB2 for Week 1.
He told reporters after Thursday's win over the Chargers that he has not committed to a No. 2 quarterback, and that he feels really good about both Simpson and Bennett. The Rams held Bennett out of action on Thursday night but McVay says he wouldn't read too much into that as an endorsement for the fourth-year quarterback.
McVay said he'll make a decision after giving it more thought, though he technically doesn't have to decide until shortly before the Rams kick off against the 49ers on Sept. 10. At that point, he'll need to pick which quarterback is active for the opener, and which one will be in street clothes.
Simpson and Bennett both played well in the preseason, committing zero turnovers and winning all three games. They each looked comfortable operating McVay's offense, which is a greater compliment to the rookie Simpson. In the finale, only Simpson played, completing 18 of 23 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown, leading the Rams to a 20-18 victory.

Jose Mourinho is beginning to form a clearer picture of his preferred Real Madrid defence, with the Portuguese coach reportedly identifying the back four that currently gives him the greatest sense of security.
According to Defensa Central, Mourinho's conclusions have evolved as the weeks and early matches of the season have progressed.
While the Real Madrid manager remains aware that his team has defensive issues to address, he is already looking towards the combination he could trust for the biggest matches ahead.
As things stand, Denzel Dumfries, Ibrahima Konate, Dean Huijsen and Marc Cucurella are believed to be the four defenders leading the race for those positions.
Dumfries has made the strongest case at right-back, with the Dutchman beginning to pull ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold in the battle for a starting role.

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — To extend their stay at the Little League World Series, Bayonne's All Stars needed to bounce back from their first defeat of the summer and win Tuesday night's game against the Great Lakes team from Ohio.
It was Bayonne's first game in the elimination bracket, and Jett Bridges, who last pitched during the New Jersey state tournament three weeks ago, started on the mound. He recorded three shutout innings before walking the bases loaded with no outs in the top of the fourth. Shortstop Gabe Garcia Jr. then relieved Bridges on the mound and struck out a batter before allowing an RBI single.
But Great Lakes then broke the game open with a double to center. By the end of the frame, Great Lakes led, 5-0, and that was all Ohio needed to eliminate Bayonne.
The final was 5-2 after Bayonne's late rally attempt fell short.
"The kids had a great run," Bayonne manager Justin Smith said. "I couldn't be more proud of them. They outplayed us and deserved to win. Couldn't ask for more."

Major sporting events in the New York/N ew Jersey are have **** aulted by outrageous ticket prices this summer. During the NBA Finals, ticket prices got so out of control that U.S. President Donald Trump faced major backlash for not showing sympathy for fans who had been priced out.
"That's the way life goes," Trump said at the time. "Now, if the team wasn't a big success, you could go very easily. That's just the way life is."
Ticket prices also reached outrageous numbers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, although Trump showed a little more sympathy in that instance.
"If people from Queens and Brooklyn and all of the people that love Donald Trump can't go, I would be disappointed, but, you know, at the same time, it's an amazing success," he said. "I would like to be able to have the people that voted for me to be able to go."
The President hasn't publicly addressed the surging prices ahead of the U.S. Open, but New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has taken matters into his own hands.

Kayshon Boutte Trade Grades: Did Patriots Get Enough Back in Deal With Texans? originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Texans are making a late trade as the regular season approaches, acquiring wide receiver Kayshon Boutte from the Patriots.
Boutte was on the trade block for much of the offseason as the Patriots made several additions to their wide receiver room, including A.J. Brown. Boutte's contract expires after the season, which limited New England's leverage and gave Houston a chance to add a talented receiver for a year.

Both of these teams have Super Bowl aspirations, as they even played in the playoffs last year, making this trade a fascinating deal. Down the road, it is certainly possible that they will have to go through each other once again to make a Super Bowl run.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson fired back at his detractors, calling the booing he heard from some Cleveland fans during Saturday's home preseason loss against Buffalo "disrespectful" and "personal."
Watson, who has a complicated relationship with Cleveland fans because of injuries, off-field issues — including an NFL suspension in 2022 — and a massive, $230 million contract, was booed repeatedly during the second half of a 31-7 loss to the Bills.
Watson was just 5 of 12 passing for 36 yards and threw an interception. He came off the bench because the Browns started Shedeur Sanders, who is competing with Watson for the starting job. Coach Todd Monken has yet to decide which QB will start the season opener in Jacksonville on Sept. 13.
Watson didn't appreciate the reaction from the sparse crowd at Huntington Bank Field. It was his first home game since tearing his Achilles tendon on Oct. 20, 2024, when fans cheered him sustaining a potential career-ending injury.
"It has nothing to do about the performance," Watson said of the boos. "It's a little bit personal. I think that's a disrespectful thing. I'm going to keep whatever I feel with me and my family internally on how I feel about that. Just move on."

Texas quarterback Arch Manning, a redshirt junior, has been named to this year's Davey O'Brien Award preseason watch list, according to the Davey O'Brien Foundation's announcement this week.
The honor is given each season to college football's top quarterback.
Following Manning's notable victorious performance in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl versus Michigan last season (after the Longhorns were robbed of a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff just weeks prior), Manning was named to honor of the O'Brien Award's Postseason Great 8 list.
Several Longhorn legends have won the O'Brien Award over the years, including former Texas running back Earl Campbell in 1977 (back then, the award recognized the top player in southeastern U.S.), former Texas quarterback Vince Young following a BCS Championship-winning season in 2005, and, most recently, former Texas quarterback Colt McCoy following the Longhorns' most recent national championship appearance, in which Texas fell to Alabama in the 2009 BCS Championship game (McCoy was also a finalist for the O'Brien Award following the 2008 college football season.) Former Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers was an award semifinalist in 2024.

Joe ******* nano entered training camp fighting for snaps and engulfed in a five-person quarterback room. After Diego Pavia's release and Skylar Thompson's injury, he will travel to Minnesota with a legitimate opportunity to force his way onto the Baltimore Ravens' 53-man roster.
The undrafted rookie quarterback took advantage of an extended opportunity in Baltimore's 24-7 preseason victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, completing 22 of 28 passes for 224 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He directed three scoring drives, operated the offense with poise and consistently delivered the football on time.
It was the type of performance that could change ******* nano's standing within the organization. He is no longer simply a developmental quarterback helping Baltimore complete training camp. He is making a strong case to become the Ravens' third quarterback. till earning the QB3 designation and securing a roster spot are two different challenges.
Fagnano entered the game after Tyler Huntley handled Baltimore's first two possessions and was trusted with most of the remaining quarterback snaps. He connected with Ja'Kobi Lane for a 16-yard touchdown, completed passes to 10 different receivers and helped the Ravens maintain possession throughout the second half.
His only significant mistake came late in the second quarter. ******* nano attempted to complete a pass across the end zone while moving outside the pocket, but Eagles cornerback Kelee Ringo made an athletic interception. Jesse Minter did not appear overly concerned with the decision, praising Ringo's play and ******* nano's ability to respond after halftime.

The Detroit Lions did not wait long to address two positions hit hard by injuries.
Detroit announced Sunday that running back Kye Robichaux and defensive back Loren Strickland have been waived with injury designations. The Lions filled those openings by signing veteran running back Trayveon Williams and cornerback Ekow Boye-Doe.
The moves give Detroit healthy bodies for the closing stretch of training camp while ending, at least temporarily, two roster pushes disrupted by injuries.
Robichaux suffered a foot injury during Detroit's preseason loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Dan Campbell revealed Saturday that the rookie may have broken a bone, a development that immediately placed his availability in serious doubt.
The Lions have now waived Robichaux with an injury designation, cutting short an encouraging summer.
