A week after Michael Brennan threatened to tie the Tour's record for most consecutive made birdies in a round, Sahith Theegala challenged — and eventually tied — the mark for most birdies to open a round by carding six consecutive circle to start his Wyndham Championship.
Theegala's attempt at the record seventh straight birdie came at the par-3 7th, where he bogeyed to fall back to 5 under through seven holes.
And all that drama came within an hour after Beau Hossler signed his first round 61 to become the clubhouse leader — the fifth such low score in three weeks.
With course conditions primed for low scoring, Theegala could certainly challenge for a sub-60 score on Thursday. Golf Channel will be carrying live Round 1 coverage beginning at 3 p.m.

Johnson Wagner believes that while some will vote for Scottie Scheffler to be PGA Tour Player of the Year, the opportunity to opt for someone else for a change will tempt many to look elsewhere.
Scheffler is in an unusual position heading into the FedEx Cup playoffs. Over the previous few seasons, the world number one has been dominant, winning the Player of the Year in each of the last four years.
However, the 2026 season has been a lot tougher for Scheffler. While he won The American Express on his first start of the year, the 30-year-old has failed to add to his tally of victories.
Scheffler has finished second five times. Meanwhile, the likes of Chris Gotterup, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Cameron Young, and Wyndham Clark have all won multiple times.
There is no question that Scheffler has to be in the conversation when it comes to the Player of the Year.

It was nothing more than a post-Open Championship vacation with his mother, but there could be no better place than Paris to remind Ryan Gerard how much life has changed in seven months.
Think back to the penultimate week in December when Gerard, a month into his offseason and at No. 57 in the world ranking, flew halfway around the globe to the tiny island of Mauritius for a shot at finishing the year in the top 50 in the world.
He lost in a playoff and moved to No. 46 to secure his trip to the Masters. His flight home included a long layover in Paris, enough time for him to see the Notre Dame cathedral, the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower. "Pretty sick," he said that day.
Gerard opened the year with consecutive runner-up finishes. He earned his way into the U.S. Open and British Open, lost in a playoff at the Memorial and goes into the Wyndham Championship at No. 16 in the FedEx Cup as he looks toward making the Tour Championship.
His mother came over to Royal Birkdale, where Gerard tied for ninth, and they were off to Paris for three days. That's when Gerard, who doesn't take much serious outside of his golf, went on a most unusual search to find "the worst statue that I could possibly find."

Patrick Cantlay became the fifth player to withdraw from this week's Wyndham Championship since the field was announced at the traditional PGA Tour Friday deadline.
Cantlay tied for eighth Sunday at the Rocket Classic, his fourth top 10 and ninth top 25 of the 2026 season. He's currently 41st in the FedEx Cup Playoffs standings, which puts him through to not only the first postseason event next week, the FedEx St. Jude Championship, but also Week 2's BMW Championship.
If PGA Tour players WD before a tournament starts, they're not required to provide a reason.

The women's golf major championship season is officially over, after Shiho Kuwaki earned $1.5 million for winning the AIG Women's Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club on Sunday.
But it was Nelly Korda who won the most prize money overall at the five women's majors this year, taking home a combined $4.59 million—boosted by her victories at the Chevron Championship and U.S. Women's Open, which came with $1.35 million and $2.5 million paydays, respectively. Korda missed the cut at the Amundi Evian Championship and did not earn any prize money. She did, however, cash in a $275,235 check for finishing tied for eighth at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship and made $465,601 for placing T4 at the AIG Women's Open.
Not only does Korda's major haul top all other women's golfers this year, it also surpasses all but two men's golfers—Rory McIlroy and Wyndham Clark—despite the five women's majors paying out a combined $53.6 million in prize money, compared to $83.25 million at the four men's majors. Just hours after winning the Rocket Classic in Detroit for his first PGA Tour victory, Michael Thorbjornsen withdrew from the Wyndham Championship on Sunday night.
The 24-year-old Stanford alum shot a career-low 63 in the final round to erase a four-stroke deficit at the start of the day and get into the winner's circle in his 65th career Tour start. The 500 FedEx Cup points lifted him from No. 69 in the season-long standings and just inside the cut-off line for the playoffs to No. 31 and safely into the BMW Championship.
Thorbjornsen had played four of the last five Tour events. It's the age-old dilemma: rest or ride the momentum? Thorbjornsen opted to celebrate his achievement and gear up for making a playoff run.
The top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings will qualify for the first event of the playoffs, the FedEx St. Jude Championship (Aug. 13-16). The top 50 advance to the next week and the BMW Championship at Bellerive in St. Louis; the top 30 make it to East Lake in Atlanta for the Tour Championship.
Thorbjornsen's withdrawal is good news for at least one player: Justin Lower, the first alternate, is officially in the field and needs a win to have any shot at the playoffs. He's No. 174 in the FedEx Cup.

Detroit — With big names atop the leaderboard at the Rocket Classic, the galleries, already impressive through two rounds, are expected to swell on the weekend at Detroit Golf Club.
But the field, at the halfway point, has now shrunk.
The cut line came in at 3 under par after Friday's round, with 73 players at that number or better. The rest of the 146-player field is heading home after finishing 2 under or worse after two rounds. The field started at 147, but Patrick Rodgers withdrew after an opening-round 77.
Among the big names who missed the cut was Wyndham Clark, the No. 9 player in the Official World Golf Ranking who won his second U.S. Open last month at Shinnecock Hills in New York.
Clark got off to a good start this week, shooting 2 under through his first nine holes Thursday, but it was a struggle the rest of the way. He finished 5 over after a second-round 74 that included a double-bogey at the par-5 14th hole. It's Clark's second straight missed cut (British Open), after a scorching stretch in which he had a six-tournament stretch during which he won twice (Byron Nelson, U.S. Open), and didn't have a finish worse than a tie for 13th.

While the Tour could return, this week's 2026 Rocket Classic is expected to be the final event at the Donald Ross course in Michigan, which has hosted the tournament since 2019. Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the 2026 Rocket Classic. No reason was given for the WD.
Koepka, who tied for 28th at the Open Championship, is 84th in the FexEx Cup standings, so if he wants to make the postseason, he'll need a strong finish at next week's Wyndham Championship.
This season, his best finish was a T-9 at his hometown Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches. He also placed T-12 at the Masters.
His WD isn't such bad news for three other players, however. Because Koepka was listed in the field Monday, Lanto Griffin and Justin Lower were given spots to round out groupings, AKA the Koepka rule. In every PGA Tour event he has played this year, two players were added to the field on Monday, so he wasn't taking away starts from anyone. And then with his WD, Ben Silverman gets his spot at Detroit Golf Club in Michigan.
Perhaps waiting until Tuesday to withdraw was planned, but it's an unfortunate situation for Koepka, who has only one more chance to make the postseason.

The PGA Tour announced Friday night the 141 players who are committed to teeing it up at Detroit Golf Club next week, when the eighth and final Rocket Classic will be played from July 30-Aug. 2.
There were no major changes with the final list of PGA Tour player commitments, from previous announcements, as the field continues to be highlighted by four players inside the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking, eight in the top 20, 21 in the top 50, and more than half of the top 100. There are 10 major champions. The field is arguably the best in the history of the Rocket Classic, and certainly the best since rival LIV Golf began playing and poaching in 2022.

Detroit — Five-time major champion Brooks Koepka, one of the biggest names in the sport who defected to LIV Golf in 2022 before returning to the PGA Tour earlier this year, will play in the Rocket Classic later this month.
A tournament official confirmed Koepka's commitment Monday.
It will be Koepka's first time playing the Rocket Classic, which will be played for the eighth and final time July 30-Aug. 2 at Detroit Golf Club. Koepka adds to a field that already includes world No. 4 Cameron Young, world No. 8 and two-time U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark, and world No. 14 and two-time major champion Xander Schauffele.
Koepka became the first player to leave the PGA Tour for LIV Golf and then return to the PGA Tour when he was let out of his LIV Golf contract early in January. With his return to the PGA Tour came several significant financial penalties, including ineligibility for 2026 FedEx Cup bonus payouts.
But Koepka still is eligible to compete in playoff events and for those tournament purses if he qualifies. He's currently 84th in the playoff points race, and he'd make the first playoff event if he finishes the regular season in the top 70.

The men's major season comes to a conclusion this week with the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
Cameron Young got the big-event campaign underway by winning The Players Championship on the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass in March. Rory McIlroy then kicked off the official major season by winning his second consecutive green jacket at the Masters Tournament.
Next was a surprising turn: Aaron Rai captured the 108th PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. Wyndham Clark followed by adding a second U.S. Open ****** le to his resume with an impressive wire-to-wire victory at Shinnecock Hills.

The 2026 Genesis Scottish Open is far from over.
Dense fog rolled over the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland, on Saturday, forcing two separate suspensions in play. Most players in contention will have to return to the golf course early Sunday morning, as the second round resumes at 7 a.m. local time (2 a.m. ET). Then, the final round will commence.
World No. 4 Matt Fitzpatrick was tied at the top of the leaderboard with Michael Thorbjornsen when play was suspended Saturday, but there are dozens still within striking distance, including defending champ Chris Gotterup, reigning U.S. Open champ Wyndham Clark and crowd-favorite Robert MacIntyre, who's looking to win his native national open for the second time in three years.

On the heels of questionable behavior from fans towards Wyndham Clark at the U.S. Open, the R&A announced Wednesday that a code of conduct will be enforced at this year’s Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
With a crowd of 300,000 expected to visit the Southport, England venue next week, the protocol “aims to ensure that players, spectators, volunteers, officials, staff and the local community can enjoy a welcoming, inclusive and memorable experience.” The guidelines will be outlined to fans through on-site signage, digital channels and ticket communications.
At last month’s U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, the Long Island galleries were occasionally hostile to Clark during Sunday’s final round. This behavior included unfriendly remarks, jeers for misses and, perhaps most curiously, silence towards well-played shots. Several fans were escorted off the property due to their behavior. The reception did not deter Clark, who went on to secure his second national championship by a stroke.
While the Open crowds are historically warm and respectable, they too have crossed the line, most notably in 2023 in their treatment towards eventual champion Brian Harman at Royal Liverpool.

Simon Yarmak, an ****** yst at Stifel Nicolaus, reaffirmed a Buy rating on Travel & Leisure Co. (NYSE:TNL) along with the price target of $88 on June 26. The firm's price target suggests a further 12% upside from current levels.
On a more bullish note, Goldman Sachs upgraded Travel & Leisure Co. (NYSE: TNL) to Buy from its previous Neutral rating on June 1. The firm also raised its price target on the stock from $73 to $85. It views TNL as one of the strongest companies in the travel sector. The company generates steady, recurring fee income without requiring large capital investments, the ****** yst told investors in a research note. Moreover, Goldman Sachs has a positive view of the timeshare industry, expecting companies to grow earnings through better execution. Wyndham Clark had a round to remember Sunday at the 2026 Travelers Championship.
The U.S. Open champion shot 5-under 65 during the final round at TPC River Highlands, and he did so with an excellent performance on the greens. Clark made 105 feet of putts, and he took only 20 swipes with the flat stick on Sunday.
In the history of the Travelers Championship, that's the fewest number of putts in a round ever.
Clark's putter change to the Scottsdale TEC Ally Blue Onset has been revolutionary for his game. Since making the change, he has won twice – the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and his second U.S. Open ******* le – and finished T-5 at the Travelers. His worst finish in the last five starts is T-11. In a little more than three months, he has gone from a below-average putter to one of the best in the world.
The record for fewest putts in a PGA Tour round is 18, a whopping one per hole, achieved 12 times. Cameron Smith was the latest to do it in 2021.

Rain began to increase around 5:20 p.m., and turned in a downpour at times. Officials continued play as TPC River Highlands was holding up to the conditions. Once electricity arrived in the area, however, the horn sounded and players were taken off the course.

He will face elite competition, including Scottie Scheffler, who won this event in 2024 and is looking to add another victory to his 2026 campaign. Also teeing it up is Wyndham Clark, who enters the week with massive momentum after winning the U.S. Open just last week.

McFarland made his ace at Chippewa Golf Club just outside Toledo earlier this week by knocking in a driver from 135 yards out. And did he celebrate his impressive accomplishment? Your ******* right he did. Have a look:

Wyndham Clark has expressed his gratitude towards Ted Scott over the kindness he showed him after the final round of the US Open last Sunday.
It is fair to say that few at Shinnecock Hills were pulling for Clark to win the third major of the year. There were a number of reasons why those outside the ropes were keen for someone else to get their hands on the trophy.
Clark is not a particularly popular figure. He had also opened up a commanding lead with 18 holes to play, with Clark at least six shots clear of the chasing pack.
Meanwhile, Scottie Scheffler was alongside Clark in the final group. It was the world number one’s first opportunity to complete the Career Grand Slam.
Ultimately, it was not Scheffler’s day. The 30-year-old struggled to build any momentum throughout the round, rarely looking like he was going to be able to put real pressure on Clark.
