The A's snapped their five-game losing streak on Saturday night, beating the Houston Astros 4-3 on their home turf for the club's 50th win of the season and setting the team up for a possible series win tomorrow morning. Wouldn't that be something?

When it comes to the question of who will start next to Pro Bowl inside linebacker Devin Lloyd, the answer may not be on the Carolina Panthers' current roster.
That question persisted throughout Friday night, in the team's 34-17 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Carolina's third preseason outing failed to yield a clear winner, or at least a clear favorite, in the competition between 2024 third-round pick Trevin Wallace and fourth-year veteran Claudin Cherelus—who have been battling for the right to help man the middle of the defense.
ESPN's Mike Kaye, in a roundup of yesterday's action, came away from the contest asking if the Panthers have a worthy enough complement to Lloyd:
Carolina didn't play Devin Lloyd, so Trevin Wallace and Claudin Cherelus both started Friday. Neither defender has gained an advantage in their position battle this summer, and the depth behind Lloyd could be upgraded before Week 1.
Similar to tight end, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Panthers search for a veteran free agent linebacker before or after the cut-down deadline next week.

You'll recall Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark and Taylor Swift are pals, with the pair sharing a suite at Kansas City Chiefs game and Clark attending an Eras Tour show. Clark also plugged Swift's new album back in 2025 and credited the music megastar with upgrading her "drip."
So when Clark spoke with SLAM for a cover story in Kicks 29, she had to shout out Swift when asked who she'd want to see wearing her Caitlin 1s.
"Well, Travis Scott tried on the all-black pair. Obviously, we saw that in my Instagram post, "she said. "I wouldn't mind seeing Taylor Swift in a couple versions that I think she would probably like."
Of course fans loved it, and we'd all like to see Swift in some Caitlin 1s sometime.

It did not take now former Notre Dame defensive lineman Junior Tuihalamaka to make many choices this week after finding out that he is eligible to play another year to college football.
The four-year Irish contributor was notified earlier in the week that him, along with a few others could play for one last season. Tuihalamak didn't wait around at all, on Thursday entering the transfer portal and then on Friday committing to the LSU Tigers. By not having signed with an NFL team, there weren't many complications for him to make a move.
All of this happened just hours after Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman took the podium and addressed the situation. He said that due to the timings of the decision by the courts, it wouldn't be possible to bypass graduate admissions and get Tuihalamaka ready for the school year.
It's unfortunate that it happened this way, as if it were at the start of fall camp, you'd have to believe that the edge rusher would still be on the Irish's roster. Now Tuihalamaka will finish his career with the Tigers, and we'll be watching from a distance how he does in the SEC.

Hayden Panettiere reportedly took extra precautions to protect herself after her on-and-off boyfriend Brian Hickerson returned to her life.
According to a source who spoke with Us Weekly, the actress hired private security after Hickerson allegedly refused to leave her home during a temporary stay earlier this year.
The source claimed that Hickerson told Panettiere he needed somewhere to stay because he had no money and blamed his past criminal charges on her. She reportedly allowed him to stay temporarily, but he allegedly refused to leave.
"He would always take advantage of her and wouldn't leave, so she hired private security to not only remove him, but to keep him away from her," the source told Us Weekly.
The source further claimed that the Heroes star discovered Hickerson had allegedly installed cameras inside her home. Her building's homeowners ****** ociation also reportedly warned residents about him, according to the source.

The Detroit Lions are taking a look at some serious experience for an offensive line that suddenly could use more of it.
Detroit worked out veteran guards Will Hernandez and Laken Tomlinson on Thursday, according to the NFL transaction wire. Neither player had signed with the Lions as of Friday morning.
The timing isn't difficult to figure out.
Ben Bartch is in concussion protocol, cutting into what was already a shrinking opportunity for him to challenge Christian Mahogany at left guard. Detroit is also operating without center Cade Mays, whose wrist injury is expected to sideline him for roughly eight to 10 weeks.
Brad Holmes apparently decided it wouldn't hurt to have a couple of veteran guards stop by Allen Park.

Honestly? We knew it wouldn't be long before what is perhaps the most controversial shoe (if you can even call it that) of the year made its way onto the red carpet. Fashion has always loved an opinion-dividing shoe moment, and at last night's The Dog Stars premiere in London, Margaret Qualley stepped out in Chanel's much-discussed "barefoot" sandals, proving that even the most eyebrow-raising runway trends can find their way onto the red carpet.
There were plenty of highlights from the premiere, from Jacob Elordi arriving in Celine with his adorable dog, to Margaret's elegant, ethereal and effortlessly cool black fringed Chanel dress. But it was the actress's footwear that had everyone talking.
So, what exactly are the shoes?
First unveiled as part of Matthieu Blazy's Chanel Resort 2027 collection in Biarritz, the sandals take the phrase "barely there" in the most literal sense.

Rewind a few weeks and Liverpool were facing a centre-back crisis.
Virgil van Dijk didn't travel for the preseason tour to the United States leaving head coach Andoni Iraola with a dearth of viable options.
Jeremy Jacquet was still struggling with injury - along with Giovanni Leoni - while Joe Gomez's injury on tour added to the problems.
With Ibrahima Konate departed for Real Madrid we saw Mor Talla Ndiaye, Ifeanyi Ndukwe and even Luke Chambers all entrusted with starting duties.
Given Ndukwe wouldn't be eligible for the season ahead owing to visa issues this was a far from ideal scenario. But the picture has eased somewhat since then.

When hundreds of millions of euros and multiple world championships are on the line, how do you actually close the most highly anticipated contract in Formula 1 history? According to a wild new report from the Dutch publication De Telegraaf, you fire up Microsoft Office.
While the astronomical financial figures of Max Verstappen's new Red Bull extension have dominated the paddock rumor mill, the behind-the-scenes mechanics of how the Milton Keynes squad convinced him to sign the August paperwork are just as fascinating. It required an executive-level corporate pitch, starring Red Bull Racing Team Principal Laurent Mekies.
According to the Dutch outlet, the roadmap to securing Verstappen's signature began with a detailed PowerPoint presentation delivered by Mekies.
As the man steering the Red Bull ship, Mekies knew that a blank check wouldn't be enough to secure a hyper-competitive, four-time World Champion. Verstappen doesn't just want to be the highest-paid driver on the grid; he wants a guarantee that he will be fighting for ****** les at the end of the decade. With rival teams aggressively circling to poach him for the future, Mekies took a deeply ****** ytical approach, bringing a slide deck to the negotiating table.
Because the sweeping 2026 engine regulations are already in full effect and the Red Bull Ford Powertrains project is successfully navigating its inaugural season, Mekies wasn't pitching an unknown vision for 2026. He was pitching sustained dominance for the next era.

Manchester City continues to search for midfielders that they can sign to bolster Enzo Maresca's squad. Crystal Palace's England international Adam Wharton was named as a potential target for the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders. Wharton's passing game and quality in possession seem suited to life in a City side. It has now been reported that Manchester City have enquired about the possibility of signing Adam Wharton. However, Crystal Palace appear to have quickly squashed City's hopes of signing Wharton.
David Ornstein and Sam Lee have reported for The Athletic that Manchester City have enquired with Crystal Palace about the potential of signing Adam Wharton this summer. However, Crystal Palace have informed City that they have no intention of selling Wharton this summer. It is also reported that Wharton is one of many candidates City have on their recruitment list. However, the name of those players isn't revealed.
Manchester City are now in a race against time to bolster their squad ahead of the transfer window closing. My personal belief is that City wouldn't be willing to let so many players depart without having a plan in place. That plan is yet to properly reveal itself. However, due to the stage of the transfer window where City are trying to do major work, they may face frustration or be forced to pay a premium.
Crystal Palace's stance on not wanting to sell Adam Wharton is understandable. They will not want to lose such an important player so late in the transfer window. Unless Wharton attempts to engineer an exit from Crystal Palace late in the window, which looks unlikely, City will have to look elsewhere to bolster their midfield. This is a scenario that could be in play for a host of clubs who will not want to lose key players without having the time to sign a replacement. The other possibility is that Manchester City will have to pay a premium to sign players so late in the window which is now a likely scenario which will take place.
Adam Wharton looks set to stay at Crystal Palace. Manchester City's enquiry about signing the England international has been dismissed. City's hunt for quality midfielders continues and it will be a process that will likely drag on until the final day of the transfer window.

The SEC just formally proposed Regulation Crypto ******* ets, a new offering framework that would let crypto projects raise up to $5M through a one-time startup exemption or up to $75M annually through a tiered fundraising exemption.
The exemptions: The startup lane allows $5M over four years with no accredited-investor requirement or per-investor cap. The fundraising lane allows $75M every 12 months, split into a $20M Tier 1 and $75M Tier 2, with Tier 2 issuers needing audited financials and ongoing reporting, and non-accredited buyers capped at 10% of income or net worth. Tokens sold under either lane wouldn't carry a rule-based resale lockup.
The safe harbor: Once a team finishes, or permanently drops, the managerial work it promised, its token can shed "investment contract" status for good—a formalized version of the concept the SEC's March interpretive guidance first floated. The rule would also preempt state-level securities registration for these offerings and certain secondary trades.
What's missing: The SEC's separate "innovation exemption," expected to let firms tokenize actual securities like stocks and trade them onchain, wasn't part of Tuesday's release. The agency explicitly said it isn't touching registered-offering rules for "digital securities" this round, so tokenized equities on public blockchains remain unaddressed.
Why the delay: CoinDesk reported the tokenization piece had been expected to land alongside the fundraising rule before the SEC abruptly pulled an Aug. 14 meeting. The holdup has been tied to White House concerns about muddying live CLARITY Act talks, internal questions over the SEC's own statutory authority, and Wall Street's SIFMA objecting to using exemptive relief for market-structure changes.

The Orioles were swept away tonight, ruining every bit of goodwill and excitement they had built up with their series against the Rays last weekend. Tonight's game, a 6-1 loss to the Yankees, had a little bit of everything bad. The offense could not solve Gerrit Cole. One big error cost the team a couple runs. And Kyle Bradish struggled for his second straight start. It was not an uplifting game, to say the least.
Let's start with Bradish. He faced just three batters in the first inning, but there was foreshadowing for the rest of his game. He walked leadoff batter Trent Grisham on six pitches. To make matters worse, Carlos Narváez challenged ball four and lost. On the first batter of the game. Bradish then went 3-2 to Ben Rice, but Rice bailed him out by swinging at ball four and popping out. Heliot Ramos grounded into the first of three Yankees double plays to end the inning.
The third inning was the worst one for Bradish, with an ***** ist to Gunnar Henderson. Back-to-back singles put runners on the corners with no outs. José Caballero hit a groundball to Jackson Holliday, who fired to Henderson to start the double play, but Henderson missed the catch. No outs were recorded and a run scored. The next batter did hit into a double play, but Bradish couldn't close out the inning. Three batters and three hits later, the Orioles were down 3-0.
Bradish allowed two more baserunners in the fifth inning but was once again saved by a double play ball. He ended the fifth inning with 89 pitches. After his struggles, I thought that might be the end of his night. Unfortunately for him, he went back out for the sixth. He faced four batters and retired two of them. The other two hit home runs. Whoops! He was pulled after the second one. His final pitching line: 5.2 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K. Henderson's error led to the unearned runs, but Bradish did allow three more hits in the inning after that play. Not great.
The way that the Orioles' offense played, Bradish could have been a lot better and it wouldn't have mattered. They looked like they might have something cooking in the first inning with Pete Alonso singled and Gunnar Henderson walked, but they were stranded.

Not long ago, the idea of playing an NFL game on a Wednesday seemed completely foreign. Now, Wednesday has become an increasingly important day of the week on the NFL calendar.
The upcoming season will feature two Wednesday contests: A Super Bowl rematch between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots on NBC opening night, and a new "Thanksgiving Eve" game between the Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Rams on Netflix the day before Thanksgiving. Just a couple years ago, the NFL made some unprecedented scheduling tweaks to ensure it could air two games on Christmas Day, which fell on a Wednesday, when only a year prior the league suggested it wouldn't utilize the holiday if it fell on Wednesday.
The willingness to schedule games on days of the week that it had not previously considered viable is part and parcel with the league's ambition to add more standalone window national games. But don't expect the league to roll out a weekly "Wednesday Night Football" package anytime soon.
When asked about the NFL's utilization of Wednesday during a conference call this week, the league's top media executive Hans Schroeder indicated Wednesday will still be used sparingly.
"I don't know if we're looking at Wednesday night football as a night for regularly scheduled NFL game," Schroeder said. "I do think if you look at the growth of Thanksgiving specifically, and that holiday, and how core football, and food, and family, and bringing all that together, that the growth of Thanksgiving over the last handful of years has just been tremendous."

Ketlen Vieira was a top-ranked bantamweight in the UFC ever since she beat Sara McMann and Cat Zingano nearly a decade ago, and stayed among the elite until the UFC decided not to offer her a new deal following a win over Jacqueline Cavalcanti this past May. For Vieira, it's still hard to wrap her head around that"unbelievable" call.
It didn't take long for Vieira to find a new home, signing with PFL to face their featherweight champion Cris Cyborg in the main event of PFL Tampa on Aug. 22. Moments away from one of her ultimate dream fights, Vieira opened up on the "mix of feelings" of leaving the UFC after a decade in the promotion.
"I was already expecting it because usually we renew a contract before the final fight," Vieira told MMA Fighting. "When 'Dedé' [Andre Pederneiras] told me they wanted me to have my last fight, I already found it a little strange and was kind of expecting it. But it was still a huge surprise to me because I've been a top athlete in the division for many years."
"What I'm about to say isn't me being arrogant or anything, and I even apologize for saying it," she continued, "but I'm much better than many of the fighters who are there at bantamweight. It's kind of unbelievable that they wouldn't renew my contract when there are many other fighters there who aren't on my level, you know? But I always put my life in God's hands, and He's the one who decides, and He guided me toward what I wanted, which was a ******* le shot."
Vieira won 10 of 15 fights in the UFC cage between 2016 and 2026, topping the likes of Holly Holm, Miesha Tate and suffering defeats only to the best of the bantamweight division, including future champions Kayla Harrison and Raquel Pennington.

Purdue basketball will have a new look in the 2026-27 season: NCAA career ******* ists leader Braden Smith, Boilers career 3-pointers leader Fletcher Loyer and big man Trey Kaufman-Renn are gone after becoming the recruiting class with the most wins in program history.
However, given the recent rounds of NCAA rules changes, lawsuits and injunctions, any or all of them could seek more eligibility. Would coach Matt Painter take him back?
He says no.
The 22nd-year coach wouldn't begrudge any of them applying for more eligibility; it just wouldn't be with Purdue.
"Trey wouldn't apply for this ... even though everything can be battled these days," Painter said on the "Inside College Basketball" podcast with Jon Rothstein. "The other two guys, there's just no way we could take them back because these other guys, it's their turn. You've given them that word."

Once the line of Tennessee football fans had cleared out, the food arrived for employees at Window World. A DoorDash driver juggled a brown Firehouse Subs bag in one hand and four soft drinks in the other as she pushed open the glass doors.
She took a step inside, turned to her left and did a double take. Sitting in front of her was linebacker Arion Carter, there for a meet and greet to sign autographs for fans.
There was one football left in the back for Carter to sign, which she excitedly accepted. She then asked to take a picture with Carter. Her family wouldn't believe her without photo evidence.
"My brothers are going to be so mad at me!" she joked.
It was Carter's first public event since he was suspended two games by the NCAA because he returned to college after his agent had paid for a flight to an NFL pre-draft training facility. He is arguably Tennessee's best defensive player and will sit out the opener against Furman on Sept. 5 at Neyland Stadium and the road game at Georgia Tech on Sept. 12.

The S&P 500 Index (SPX) is trading near all-time highs, which is nothing new over the past several years. But there has been a sudden interest in hedging against a volatility spike. That's evident in the 10-day buy-to-open (BTO) call/put ratio for Cboe Market Volatility Index (VIX) options. A spike in VIX call buying has pushed the ratio above 6.0, which has been reached just a handful of times since 2025.
The VIX measures the expected volatility of the SPX over the next 30 days. Since the VIX tends to rise when the SPX falls, portfolio managers often use VIX calls to hedge against a sharp market downturn.
There's a contrarian argument, however, that if investors are hedged against a selloff, they may be less likely to panic sell, minimizing the likelihood of a sharp pullback. An alternative theory is that VIX option buyers are more sophisticated traders, and the unusual spike in call buying could be smart money. If so, SPX underperformance over the short- to medium-term wouldn't be surprising. Instead of taking a side, I'm examining the historical data to see which theory holds up.
The table below shows how the SPX performed after the VIX 10-Day BTO Call/Put Ratio spiked above 6.0. I only counted the first spike in at least a month. The second table shows typical index returns for comparison, while the overall results show a clear theory winner. VIX option traders have historically appeared as smart money investors rather than overly cautious investors. The SPX significantly underperformed after previous spikes in the ratio.
Since 2014, there have been 31 instances when the VIX BTO call/put ratio spiked above 6.0. Over the following two weeks, the SPX averaged a loss of 0.60%, with only 45% of returns positive. For comparison, the index typically gained 0.50% over two-week periods with 64% of returns positive. In the three months following a spike, the SPX lost 0.65% on average with 60% of returns positive, versus a typical three-month gain of 3.11% and 75% positive.

Jets quarterback Geno Smith will make his first start of the 2026 preseason Friday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Smith missed the Jets' preseason opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a minor ankle injury.
Aaron Glenn gave his healthy starters a series in that first exhibition game and indicated that the starters would also see action in Pittsburgh. It wasn't clear Smith would be among those suiting up due to the ankle injury. It wouldn't make sense to put the quarterback on the field if he was anything less than 100 percent. The team still has a long time to go before its first regular season game. While these reps can be helpful, there is still another preseason game in a week where Geno could see time.
But since he is ready, this is a chance to work with his receivers to try and get their timing down and build chemistry.

LeBron James is no longer a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, but he made his mark on the franchise during his eight years with it. He consistently played at a high level during that time, even if certain aspects of his game had clearly slipped, and he delivered an NBA championship in 2020.
As we take a look at James' greatest performances as a member of the Lakers in chronological order, here is a look back at Game 5 of the 2020 Western Conference finals, when the team put away the Denver Nuggets and advanced to the NBA Finals.
The Lakers started off the 2020 West finals with a 126-114 victory. They then got past the Nuggets, 105-103, in Game 2 thanks to a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from Anthony Davis. However, Los Angeles fell by eight points in Game 3 despite a triple-double by James, and suddenly there was a bit of doubt about whether it had what it took to go all the way.
After righting themselves with a 114-108 Game 4 win, the Lakers took the court in the Walt Disney World Resort bubble for Game 5 with a chance to clinch a trip to the NBA Finals. James scored 14 points in the second quarter as they took a 61-51 halftime lead.
They went ahead 72-56 early in the third quarter only to see Denver tie the game at 84 with 11 seconds left in the period. But James wouldn't allow Denver to get any closer. He scored 16 points in the final frame to lock down a 117-107 L.A. win and finished with 38 points on 15-of-25 shooting, 16 rebounds and 10 ***** ists.

When the Denver Broncos watch the film after Friday's preseason showdown with the Green Bay Packers, they will likely evaluate a pair of inside linebackers on Green Bay's roster bubble.
Zach Kruse of Packers Wire believes Green Bay will choose between Nick Niemann and Kristian Welch for the final backup linebacker spot on their 53-man roster later this summer. If Kruse's hunch is correct, the loser of that ILB competition will be cut.
That could be a notable development for the Broncos, who are lacking experienced depth behind starters Alex Singleton and Justin Strnad. It wouldn't be shocking to see Denver monitor the waiver wire for potential ILB targets after roster cuts later this month, and one of Niemann or Welch could become available.
Niemann has appeared in 71 career games (with three starts), totaling 97 tackles, three pass breakups, one interception and one fumble recovery. He has also played 1,412 special teams snaps in his career.
Welch has 80 games (two starts) on his résumé, including six appearances and one start with the Broncos in 2024. He has totaled 43 tackles and one fumble recovery in his career, and he has 1,473 career snaps on special teams.

Well, here's an interesting story — Pape Matar Sarr might actually have a market. According to AfricaFoot (not really a Tier 1 source but interesting nonetheless), Galatasaray have an interest in the Senegalese midfielder and have gone as far as to agree personal terms with Sarr, but as of the time of this posting the clubs haven't come to an agreement over a transfer fee.
The report states that the personal agreement is for wages in Turkey of €9m/year which comes out to about £148k/wk. What it does NOT state is whether those wages are gross, or if they're net — Turkey is pretty well-known for being able to offer incredible wages to footballers because they have favorable tax situations there. It's famously why Victor Osimhen is at Galatasaray right now and not an actually good football club, and why actually good football clubs are hesitant to try and purchase him because he's on absolutely insane gross wages there.
The article also suggests Gala are wanting a three year contract for Sarr. It doesn't state whether the clubs are actually in talks at all, and so if any of this is true I'd expect to see it in the English papers before too long. Transfermarkt, which is notoriously unreliable when it comes to actual player values, lists Sarr as being worth around £25m, but who knows what he'll actually go for.
Sarr has been a player linked with an exit this summer for a while now, and it wouldn't surprise me if he goes. He's a player with a lot of utility and a motor that lasts for days, but he hasn't developed the technical skills that Spurs hoped for when they signed him from Metz a few years ago. He probably needs a fresh start somewhere else and I can see him doing well in Turkey or a return to Ligue 1.

Christian Barmore was one of the most disruptive interior defensive linemen in the NFL last season, but you wouldn't know it looking at his sack count. In a combined 21 regular season and playoff games, he had only three quarterback takedowns despite also registering 55 other pressures.
Entering into 2026, the goal is therefore clear: Barmore wants to become a better finisher.
"There are a lot of athletic quarterbacks in the league. They're all fast, they have quick feet. They all have a little mobility. My goal is, every time I get there, to bend down and just have good patience and don't run past them. That's the goal," he explained following Wednesday's first joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles.
"I missed a lot of plays I wish I had back last year, but I'm focused on the future. My goal is not to do that again, not miss the plays I can make. Really every time I get back there, I just have to settle down and make the sacks."
Barmore ended his 2025 campaign not just falling short of his sack potential, but also with an uncharacteristically high missed tackle rate of 23.5%. And yet, the season as a whole was a success for him: fully recovered from the blood clots that had disrupted his 2024 campaign, he once again looked like the player the Patriots had given a four-year, $84 million contract extension.

The next time you're looking for a new couch, you wouldn't just buy the first one you see, would you?
Well, the same goes for life insurance. The last thing you want to do is click on the first policy you see and sign the contract, not for something as important as safeguarding your loved ones' financial future. That's why you'll want to shop around and compare life insurance quotes before you make a final decision. We'll walk you through how to do just that.
A life insurance quote is basically an estimate of the amount you'll pay on a monthly or annual basis for a specific life insurance policy. These quotes aren't set in stone, but they will give you a personalized preview of your policy's costs based on several factors, including the amount of coverage you want, your age, and your overall health and lifestyle.
The price of life insurance premiums for the same amount of coverage can sometimes vary significantly from company to company, so it makes sense to get quotes from several insurers before buying a policy.

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he had urged GOP Rep. Cory Mills to drop out of his Florida primary race before the embattled Republican lost Tuesday to former news anchor Ryan Elijah.
"I told Congressman Cory Mills of Florida, a friend of mine, to get out of the Race, but he wouldn't listen. He thought he could win, so who can blame him?" Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.
Trump endorsed Mills in February and never publicly rescinded his support, despite the Florida congressman facing significant scrutiny over accusations of **** ault, potential campaign finance violations and an ex-girlfriend alleging that he threatened to release **** ually explicit images and videos of her. Mills has denied any wrongdoing.
However, the congressman was conspicuously absent from a list Trump posted earlier this month of Florida Republicans he endorsed. The president also did not participate in tele-rallies on his behalf, which he's done for several lawmakers he supports.
Mills wouldn't be the first embattled GOP congressman who Trump leaned on to quit. The president told Ohio Rep. Max Miller — whose ex-wife has accused him of abuse — in a previously reported call that he was going to lose his election and lose for the Republican Party if he kept up his reelection bid, according to two sources briefed on the call. CNN previously reported that Trump had expressed that sentiment to some allies, but not that the president said as much to Miller directly.

It has been revealed that Jeremy Doku sustained a calf injury as Manchester City fell to a disappointing 3-0 defeat to ******* nal in the FA Community Shield. Belgian publication Nieuwsblad reports that Doku will miss Manchester City's first Premier League fixture of the 2026-27 season against Bournemouth due to the injury he sustained. It is also expected that Doku will face a delayed start to the new season. Enzo Maresca will have to find a solution to the issue that Doku's absence creates against Bournemouth. However, the solution does seem obvious.
If Jeremy Doku were fully fit, it would be expected that he'd start on the left wing for Manchester City against Bournemouth. Antoine ******* yo would likely start on the right. With Doku ruled out of the match, it would be expected that ******* yo would move over to the left wing. That would open up a spot on the right wing.
Looking at the options that Enzo Maresca can use on the right wing against Bournemouth, Rayan Cherki is the clear standout. Cherki played on the right wing last season and he drifts out there when playing through the middle. Enzo Maresca's side relies on creativity from out wide to create chances. Cherki is by far and away the obvious player to slot in on the right wing to allow ******* yo to play on the left wing to cater for Jeremy Doku's absence against Bournemouth. In fact, it is such an obvious solution to the issue Maresca faces with Jeremy Doku injured that it would be a major surprise if he went in another direction.
One option that Maresca may consider is playing Rayan Ait-Nouri on the left wing with ******* yo on the right. Ait-Nouri did play on the left wing throughout Manchester City's preseason tour of Asia and he did score two goals. So that idea could be in play. Savinho is unlikely to feature due to illness and his desire for a summer transfer. At this point, he is likely not an option for Enzo Maresca to consider. It would be a shock if Jack Grealish started against Bournemouth.
However, having considered the possibility of Rayan Ait-Nouri starting on the left wing, that option wouldn't offer the threat of Rayan Cherki on the right wing and ******* yo on the left. The solution to Doku's absence through injury this weekend seems obvious. It will be interesting to see if Maresca chooses that option or has another up his sleeve with the squad he has available for Manchester City's opening Premier League fixture against Bournemouth.

For much of the past year, the story of American starlet Zavier Gozo has been one of realizing potential – even in failure. Speaking with the Guardian the day after he and Real Salt Lake teammate Diego Luna learned they wouldn't be on Mauricio Pochettino's squad for this summer's World Cup, the 19-year-old Gozo admitted the rejection made him realize how close he'd gotten to earning a spot.
"I thought I would be less disappointed than I was," Gozo said in May. "Obviously, it wasn't like I was supposed to go. I feel like I was disappointed, but I also think it just gave me so much more motivation to be able to make the first team, whenever that is."

If it works out well, Gozo's move to Crystal Palace could see that happen sooner than many would have anticipated a year ago. The Premier League club finalized the transfer of Gozo from Real Salt Lake on Tuesday in a five-year deal. The agreement is reportedly worth around $15m (£11m).
The move follows one of the most rapid ascents of any American men's prospect in recent memory.
