Accepting the $1M gift eliminates nearly 7% interest on a jumbo mortgage, delivering an immediate risk-free return that rivals most market strategies.
The new $15M lifetime gift exemption lets the in-laws transfer the full $1M immediately tax-free, requiring only a Form 709 filing.
An intrafamily loan at the 3.72% IRS minimum rate saves roughly 3 percentage points versus the current 6.9% jumbo mortgage rate.
Building a portfolio and living off one are two completely different skills, and almost **** ody teaches the second. This problem is what The Definitive Guide to Retirement Income helps, and it is free today. Read more here. (Sponsor)
People who pursue a FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early) philosophy aggressively save and invest with a goal of retiring young enough to enjoy the freedom that a substantial nest egg affords. A fatFIRE adherent aims to accumulate a seven- or eight-figure retirement portfolio, enabling a lifestyle that ordinary early retirement budgets cannot support. When a couple's in-laws share those fatFIRE values, the relationship tends to run smoothly. But good intentions packaged as sizable financial gifts can shift that balance quickly, and without diplomacy and a shared strategy, even a generous offer can quietly fracture family dynamics.

Hunter Schafer attended the WIRED World Fair in Miami on Wednesday, where she took part in a panel discussion.
John Parra/Getty Images for WIRED
For an event exploring the intersection of technology, creativity and culture, Hunter's NIHL by Neil Grotzinger Spring 2027 look felt particularly fitting. With her upcoming television series Blade Runner 2099 being her latest project, the futuristic aesthetic also seemed especially relevant, even if this wasn't an official promotional appearance.
The neon-yellow hooded top, covered in intricate floral embellishments, has an almost otherworldly quality, while the contrasting printed skirt adds to the unconventional aesthetic. The combination of traditional decorative techniques and futuristic design makes this an interesting choice for the occasion.
By swapping the runway's chunky boots for lilac pumps, she gave the outfit a more feminine feel while keeping its unconventional appeal.

A married couple over 65 who haven't claimed Social Security can pull about $47,500 from an IRA and owe the IRS nothing.
Collecting the average benefit shrinks the tax-free IRA withdrawal to about $34,000, because half of Social Security counts toward taxable income.
Past the zero-tax line, the Social Security tax torpedo makes each extra IRA dollar count nearly twice, producing an effective marginal rate of about 19%.
The biggest 401k decisions tend to get made once and never revisited: when to roll it over, what to hold inside it, and when to start taking money out. That is exactly what the report: 401k & IRA Tips and Answers was created to address, and it is free today. Read more here. (Sponsor)
A married couple where both spouses are over 65 can take a surprisingly large IRA withdrawal next year and owe the IRS nothing. How large depends mostly on one question: have they started Social Security yet?

Dafne Keen says she was offered cocaine at wrap parties as a child. The actor was around 11 to 13 and says she refused. During a recent podcast appearance, Keen explained that seeing adults drink and use drugs helped her avoid both.
Dafne Keen, now 21, discussed her choices during an appearance on Michael Rosenbaum's Inside of You podcast. She told the host that she has "never been drunk enough to even have a hangover," describing herself as a "control freak" about drinking. Seeing that culture as a child made her wary of trying it herself.
When Rosenbaum asked about the drinking she had witnessed, Keen revealed that she was "getting offered ****** e at wrap parties." She said she turned it down, and joked that she was not getting involved at such a young age. Rosenbaum reacted with surprise at the idea of a child encountering drugs so early. "11 or 12? Man, I didn't start that early," he said.
Staying sober has not stopped Keen from enjoying nights out, she explained. She likes music, dancing and spending time with people, and said she can stay out until 6 a.m. without drinking or taking anything.
The actress described herself as a fun time and said she simply does not need substances to enjoy herself. As a teenager, she sometimes claimed she was already high to avoid pressure from others. In reality, she said, she would be drinking soda and pretending to be high.

Prince William and Prince Harry have each paid a tribute to Princess Diana, though not side by side. Both brothers backed their late mother's charity with personal messages to the winners of The Diana Award, while also extending her legacy through the causes they champion. Their separate letters, however, say plenty about the ongoing feud between the two.
According to People, the Prince of Wales, 44, and the Duke of Sussex, 42, wrote congratulatory letters to the newest winners of The Diana Award. The letters, however, went out separately. Each of the 198 recipients, drawn from 44 countries, received one from each prince.
According to the charity, the winners were recognised for creating "positive change in their communities and beyond." Dr. Tessy Ojo CBE, the charity's chief executive, also praised the group. "These young people are proof that, whatever their background or circumstances, the desire to make a difference is universal," she said.
However, reports from Page Six suggest that the common gesture does not appear to signal a thaw. The brothers last appeared together at a public engagement in July 2021, when they unveiled a statue of Diana at Kensington Palace on what would have been her 60th birthday. Since then, they have seemed distant at Queen Elizabeth II's funeral and at a 2024 memorial service for their uncle.
While they are now in the same country again, they are not believed to be in contact. Harry has spoken about the rift. "I want it to work out. Of course I do," he said, while also admitting that reconciling is hard. The escalation of tensions can be traced to 2020, when Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior working royals.

The queen of Spain makes outfit repeating look so good. Today, Queen Letizia attended the 30th Ibero-American Summit 2026 held at the Royal Collections Gallery in Madrid, Spain, and for the occasion, she brought out a favorite dress of hers: a one-shoulder midi from Madrid-based brand Delpozo.
The navy dress with a bare shoulder, midi sleeves, and a pencil detail has the most elegant silhouette—one which is made even more chic by the large rosette that adorns the covered shoulder.
Letizia, who regularly supports the Spanish heritage label, has pulled the dress out several times before, including to the 50th anniversary celebration of Spanish sports newspaper AS in 2017, on a trip to Paris in 2018, and for the Princesa de Asturias Awards in 2020, at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Midterms tend to be backlash elections, and the president's party almost always loses seats when voters return to the polls to judge his performance in office.
But not all midterms are created equal.
On Tuesday, Democrats comprehensively routed their Republican rivals, regaining control of the U.S. House, U.S. Senate and statehouses across the country. Along the way, they shattered a series of decades-long Republican winning streaks and notched several historic firsts.
So just how big was this year's blue wave (or "blue tsunami")?
The full scale and scope of the Democratic Party's seismic victory is still coming into focus as officials tally every last vote. But here are some key numbers to help you put it into perspective:

Stocks soared Wednesday as investors reacted to a clean sweep by Democrats in the midterm election.
Stocks were initially down when results started to roll in Tuesday night, in part due to fears of a data center crackdown, but futures turned green later in the evening, and all three major indexes soared on Wednesday.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
It wasn't immediately clear why stocks jumped on the results, though it appeared to be a combination of several factors. Investors were glad to see pushback on the Trump administration validated, including on inflation and the war in Iran. Investors tend to like a divided government, and with Democrats gaining solid control of both houses of Congress, they clearly have that. Finally, President Trump was surprisingly conciliatory, saying he would "absolutely accept the results of the election," and was willing to work with Democrats, which could pave the way to a productive Congressional term.
Among the winning sectors today was housing, which has languished over the last two years due to high mortgage rates and weak housing turnover. The State Street SPDR S&P Homebuilders ETF (NYSEMKT:XHB) closed up 5.4%, reaching its highest point in more than two months, while Home Depot (NYSE:HD) and Lowe's (NYSE:LOW), the two leading home improvement retailers, were up as well. Home Depot finished up 6.5%, and Lowe's jumped 7.5%.

A $900,000 traditional 401(k) left to heirs yields roughly $684,000 after taxes, while a Roth passes the full $900,000 income-tax-free.
Heirs must empty inherited accounts within 10 years, potentially pushing a child earning $150,000 into the 32% or higher tax bracket.
Converting gradually during low-income retirement years keeps taxes in the 22 to 24 percent brackets and avoids Medicare surcharges above $218,000 in joint income.

US stocks jumped on Wednesday after Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress in a seismic midterm election, paving the way for a divided government.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) rose 3%, or over 1,500 points, while the S&P 500 (^GSPC) climbed 1.7%. The Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) traded up by 1.6% amid a post-election relief rally.
Markets swiftly repriced a Democratic sweep of the House and Senate — and the potential for ballot measures and newly elected officials to restrict data center construction. Chip stocks, including Nvidia (NVDA) and Micron (MU), fell. Meanwhile, other parts of the tech sector offset some of those losses, with Apple (AAPL) and Microsoft (MSFT) each hitting all-time highs.
Investors will also be watching for policy actions on housing and pharmaceuticals in the aftermath of the election. As Yahoo Finance's Jared Blikre pointed out on Tuesday, midterm elections have a history of shaping stock performance in the near term but don't tend to move markets much over the long term.
On the economic front, ISM and S&P data showed that US services activity expanded at a slower pace in October as businesses continued to grapple with elevated costs. Private-sector hiring, meanwhile, continued to show strength in October as an ADP report indicated "pretty solid job growth."

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump gave extended comments Wednesday, not about the Republican Party's midterm election wipeout but instead justifying his building a sprawling White House ballroom.
Trump invited reporters into a cavernous construction site and talked about the building project for nearly 20 minutes without mention sweeping Republican defeats around the country the night before.
"This has been a structure the likes of which has never been seen anywhere," Trump said before watching crews erect what he said would be the project's last beam and even signing what was being built.
The president had no public events on his schedule originally, but called reporters together at the last minute. He also briefly took questions, insisting, "If I were on the ballot I would have won."
He said a series of rallies he held leading up the election featured a lot of love from his supporters that "we weren't able to transfer love to the candidates."

NFLX shares have fallen 33% year to date to near their 52-week low, despite a Q3 operating margin of 34.6% and a record $4.8 billion buyback quarter.
Netflix's 29% operating margin dwarfs Disney's (DIS) 15% and Spotify's (SPOT) 13%, yet its P/E multiple sits far closer to Disney's than Spotify's.
Just released. Our ******* ysts combed the entire stock market and named the ten best stocks to buy right now, and Netflix didn't make the cut. Enter your email to see the names that beat NFLX. The report is free. Enter your email and see if any of your stocks made the cut.
Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) spent 2026 extending its reach. It added live NFL games, built its own ad technology and brought outside networks onto its platform.
The stock fell anyway, and that gap is why the setup deserves a closer look. The 24/7 Wall St. price target for Netflix is $76.26, which means 22.9% upside from $62.05.

CVS Health Corporation (CVS) announced plans on Wednesday to separate into two independent, publicly traded companies, reshaping one of the largest healthcare companies in the US.
Shares of CVS dropped more than 10% on Wednesday. The company also reported quarterly results.
CVS Health intends to separate its insurance, pharmacy benefit management, and healthcare services operations from its retail pharmacy and community healthcare segments.
The planned split marks a major shift from CVS Health's long-term strategy to bring together insurance, pharmacy benefit management, and healthcare services under one single structure.
Under the proposed plan, one company will retain the CVS Health name and house Aetna, CVS Caremark, CVS Specialty, Oak Street Health, and Signify Health.

President Donald Trump spent two months urging Americans to pretend he was on the ballot. On Tuesday, they did just that.
Voters delivered a stunning rebuke to Trump's party that rivaled anything Republicans had suffered in 50 years, defeats on ruby-red turf that Trump won handily just two years ago, where he has dominated politics for nearly a decade and against candidates he had in some cases handpicked.

Not only did Democrats flip Senate and governor seats in red states, but at times by eye-popping margins.
"The message is very clear and very simple here. It was a complete repudiation of the party as defined by Donald Trump," said Mike Murphy, a Los Angeles-based Republican consultant who worked for candidates in the pre-Trump GOP, including Jeb Bush and John McCain.

US stocks jumped on Wednesday after Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress in a seismic midterm election, paving the way for a divided government.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) rose 2.8%, or around 1,400 points, while the S&P 500 (^GSPC) climbed 1.7%. The Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) traded up by 1.8% as Apple (AAPL) and Microsoft (MSFT) stocks touched record highs.
Markets swiftly repriced a Democratic sweep of the House and Senate — and the potential for ballot measures and newly elected officials to restrict data center construction. Chip stocks, including Nvidia (NVDA) and Micron (MU), fell more than 1%. Meanwhile, other parts of the tech sector offset some of those losses with Apple (AAPL) and Microsoft (MSFT) each hitting all-time highs.
Investors will also be watching for policy actions on housing and pharmaceuticals in the aftermath of the election.
As Yahoo Finance's Jared Blikre pointed out on Tuesday, midterm elections have a history of shaping stock performance in the near term but don't tend to move markets much over the long term.

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Mike Johnson told staff on Wednesday morning that he would not run for minority leader after Republicans lost control of Congress in the midterm elections, two sources familiar with the announcement said.
Johnson handily won reelection to his Louisiana congressional district. But members of his party lost across the country on an election night that will put Democrats in the majority in the House and Senate in the next legislative session.
Among the likely contenders to try to replace Johnson as House leader are fellow Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise, the current majority leader, and Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, the current House Judiciary Committee chairman.
A person familiar with situation said Johnson did not want to get in the way of Scalise's ambitions. Scalise previously ran for speaker in 2023 but dropped out after he was unable to consolidate Republican support. Johnson went on to become speaker of the House.
Some previous speakers have resigned their seats after stepping down, but Johnson is not expected to resign from Congress, a second person familiar with his thinking said. Johnson joked before the midterm election that he could return to his hometown of Shreveport and start a lawn-mowing business if Republicans were defeated. He later said it was a "tongue in cheek" comment.

A married couple over 65 with no other income can withdraw $47,500 from a 401(k) in 2026 and owe $0 in federal tax.
Three stacked deductions fully offset the $47,500 withdrawal: a $32,200 standard deduction, a $3,300 age add-on, and a new $12,000 senior deduction.
The zero-tax math breaks once Social Security begins, as benefits start becoming taxable when combined income exceeds $32,000 for joint filers.
The biggest 401k decisions tend to get made once and never revisited: when to roll it over, what to hold inside it, and when to start taking money out. That is exactly what the report: 401k & IRA Tips and Answers was created to address, and it is free today. Read more here. (Sponsor)
A married couple, both 66, have a large traditional 401(k) and a simple plan for 2026. They will withdraw $47,500 to cover living expenses and have no other income. That means no pension, no wages and no Social Security yet. Under 2026 rules, that withdrawal produces $0 in federal income tax. The tax code makes that possible.

Across the country, homeowners are renovating rather than moving.
Those who locked in mortgage rates a few years back have done the math: selling means financing at today's rates, and that can add hundreds of dollars a month to housing costs. Most have decided it is not worth it.
The house they are in is the one they intend to keep.
Home Depot (HD) CFO Richard McPhail put a name to it on the company's most recent earnings call. Housing turnover has "never been lower as a percentage of the housing stock," McPhail said. He called it "frozen housing market conditions."
The 30-year fixed rate stood at 7.24% the week of Oct. 29, per Freddie Mac. For anyone sitting on a 3% mortgage from 2020, that number explains the freeze entirely.

SPY rose in five of six Novembers after midterms, gaining as much as 6% in 2002 and 2022 following severe bear markets.
DIA finished higher in all six post-midterm years, with gains ranging from 5% to 20%, fitting a broader presidential-cycle pattern.
In 2018, SPY gained nearly 2% in November then crashed 9% in December, ending the year 7% below pre-election levels.

Election nights tend to rattle retirement savers, but Wall Street opened Wednesday more calmly. The SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSEARCA:SPY), the most widely held stand-in for the benchmark S&P 500, traded at $763.08 before the open on November 4. That was up 1.16% from its November 3 close of $754.35. Reuters reported that stocks rallied and the dollar dipped after what it called a Democratic midterm sweep. But one session tells a 401(k) holder very little. The more useful guide is how the index behaved in the weeks and months after past midterms. That record shows a steady winning run, along with a few sharp breaks.

Sabrina Carpenter took Halloween dressing to another level this year, transforming herself into music legend Stevie Nicks. The singer embraced the rock icon's signature bohemian aesthetic with a dramatic all-black ensemble that looked straight out of the 1970s.
For Halloween 2026, Sabrina Carpenter channeled Stevie Nicks in a plunging dress featuring a fitted bodice, a V-shaped neckline, and a flowing asymmetrical skirt. The black dress hugged her waist before falling into layers of lightweight fabric, creating a dramatic silhouette. A thigh-high slit added another daring element, revealing her legs as she posed for photographs.
However, the most striking feature was the dress's sheer, cape-like sleeves. The flowing black fabric extended from her arms, creating a wing-like effect. Carpenter showed off the dramatic design in a rooftop photograph, standing with her arms extended against the evening skyline.
The singer completed her Stevie Nicks-inspired Halloween costume with a black top hat and a voluminous blonde hairstyle. Her shoulder-length curls, bangs, and softly layered locks closely resembled Nicks' signature look. She also opted for dramatic eye makeup, rosy cheeks, and a muted pink lip.
Meanwhile, Carpenter's Christian Louboutin heels added a luxurious finishing touch to the costume. According to the fashion account Sabrina Style Info, she wore the designer's Cassia Lace-Up Pumps, priced at $1,195. The black heels featured a platform-style toe, towering stiletto heels, and ribbon-like straps that wrapped around her ankles. The shoes also featured the brand's recognizable red soles.
