Dolly Parton is ready for dinner. All five-foot-one of her bodacious curves and Dynel blondness is perched on Frederick's of Hollywood-style mules as she moves through the lobby of the posh Pierre hotel overlooking New York's Central Park. Hers is a Southern manner both gracious and "oh my gracious."
Patsy Cline in Jessica Rabbit's body, she offers a friendly ***** o to anyone who cranes his neck to glimpse her-which is everyone. As she descends the stairs and settles into a corner banquette in the hotel cafe, the waiters stand in awe, each wearing a grin that says, It's so nice to have you back where you belong. One thing is certain: She is looking swell, this Dolly. A triumph of style over fashion in "an Azzedine shirt and a K Mart skirt," she is a star and then some. An icon, I call her. "An icon or an eyesore?" Parton shoots back.
This is definitely going to be fun.
"I can't even begin to imagine dressing up in a nice business suit and coming down to dinner," she says, after ordering seared foie gras and mashed potatoes. "I would much rather have the shock value of walking down the steps with my ***** hanging out but knowing that I've still got the same brain and the same talent. What kind of fun would I have doing it if I had to be ordinary?"

Dolly Parton's team broke their silence on what led to the country legend's death at 80. Her representatives shared details about her final days and the diagnosis she faced before passing on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
Dolly Parton's representatives told PEOPLE that the iconic country singer died following a "brief battle with cancer" at 80 on Tuesday, Aug. 25. Her team chose not to reveal the specific cancer type. She spent her final days at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville after being admitted on Friday, Aug. 21.
Her nephew Bryan Seaver shared the news through an Instagram video that same day. He identified himself as "son of Cassie Parton" and stated he was "representing the Parton and Owens family." Seaver described the announcement as "something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality."
Seaver spoke about his deep connection to his aunt during the video. "As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven't truly felt it until now," he shared. He expressed that "Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents and countless others."
Parton had spoken about her health just four days before dying. "I am dealing with some health issues that I just didn't pay attention to when I was watching over Carl," she told PEOPLE. She recalled earlier battles, saying she "was down for several months with female issues" during the early 1980s.

The Vikings quarterback battle did not even make it to the first preseason game. After weeks of build-up, OTAs, and training camp practices, we have now arrived at a decision on the starter by head coach Kevin O'Connell.
The Minnesota Vikings named Kyler Murray as their starting quarterback for the start of the regular season back on August 11. ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report the news of the decision, and ever since then, the noise around the position has not gotten any quieter for the Vikings.
One thing that folks are doing is projecting out what could happen. ESPN's Kevin Seifert did a fun look at the most likely and least likely outcomes related to Murray. For the least likely outcome. Seifert hinted that injury is going to be their biggest issue that could somehow present a unique opportunity.
He wrote, "Murray gets hurt and/or struggles. McCarthy steps in to replace him, and a light goes on. McCarthy plays the way the Vikings hoped he would when they drafted him, and Minnesota picks up his fifth-year option and confidently anoints him the starter for 2027."
That outcome seems beyond unlikely based on what everyone has seen from McCarthy. If this were the case, one would have to imagine that they draft a quarterback to compete with McCarthy.

Even ***** ytical fans can be overcome with emotions. The last ten days have been brutal. If we remove the opener of the Mariners series, we saw the Astros got a combined 2-6 in the span of eight days. That was against a collection of teams where they probably were hoping for a 6-2 run. They blew late leads, the offense sputtered at times, and the starting pitching continued to struggle to get through the fifth inning. Even the normally reliable Yordan Alvarez seemed to hit a snag throughout much of the run.
I hate to boil things down to simple math, but this is usually where my brain goes. There are essentially six months in a baseball season. It's obviously grossly simplified to ***** ume four weeks in a month, but we could probably add one week in there to account for the extra days. That means there are 25 weeks in a season. The last homestand accounts for slightly more than a week's worth of games. 162 divided by nine equals 18. 18 is a nice round number.
To put this in perspective for most Houston fans, 18 essentially corresponds to the number of weeks in an NFL season. So, imagine if the Texans' offense failed to show up for a particular game. I know that's not hard to imagine. Imagine if they had held a lead into the fourth quarter and squandered it. Imagine if their defense simply got torched on a particular Sunday. What would the conversation be like?
Obviously, the conversation would likely depend on when that particular loss occurred. If it occurred in a random regular season game in October it would likely be a cause for concern, but no one would be quitting on the season quite yet. If it were the opening week of the season there would be some doom and gloom, but most people would realize it was just one game in a long schedule. If it occurred in January then obviously the season would be over.
This is where we find ourselves as Astros fans. We have experienced one terrible week of baseball. They have had worse this season. It doesn't seem like it but the first road trip was an unmitigated disaster. There have been stretches at home that have looked just as awful. So, the key to sound ***** ysis is to take a step back and keep a level head about these things.

Ralph Sampson is kind of overlooked, if not forgotten today, but he was sort of the original Wemby, minus the three-point shooting, and he was a much better athlete than Victor Wembanyama is.
At Virginia, the 7-4 Sampson was a revelation. He was very thin, but was immediately dominant in the ACC, and he made Virginia a very tough out.
He made a great impression on many people, including a young Michael Jordan. Jordan was recruited by Duke, NC State and UNC, where he of course ended up, but at one point, Jordan very much wanted to team up with Sampson at Virginia.
For whatever reason, then-coach Terry Holland didn't make a big push. In fairness, Jordan was a late bloomer who was famously cut as a high school sophomore. People knew he was special by the end of his junior year, but by then it was probably too late for Virginia.
For a moment though, imagine what might have been. UNC won a **** le during his freshman year. With Sampson and Jordan, Virginia might have won two or three, and arguably could have pulled off an undefeated season or two.

In addition to fending off a Democratic challenger, Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, is wrestling against confusion caused by a candidate who shares his name — Dan J. Sullivan Jr., an independent — and a shrinking window to clear it up.
Alaska state Sen. James Kaufman, a Republican, said he personally remains worried about conflation between the two.
"I've had at least one person say they had to slow down to make sure they didn't make a mistake. And I can only imagine people who are less engaged in politics — I think it can be confusing," Kaufman said.
Results on Tuesday seem to confirm his hunch.
Sullivan Jr.'s campaign, which has focused on his background as a logger, has meaningfully splintered support from the incumbent Republican candidate in the primary — but not enough to create ambiguity about who the frontrunner was in the primary. Now, the question becomes whether the Sullivan look-alike will have a proportional impact in November, given Alaska's ranked choice voting system, a larger pool of voters and more time for Republicans to warn voters about the dueling Sullivans.

Yesterday was a big day for Kentucky Basketball, as Mark Pope and Co. landed a major commitment in the form of Missouri transfer Mark Mitchell.
The The 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward was granted a fifth year of eligibility by a judge in Louisville on Friday, and announced his commitment to Kentucky yesterday, providing a major boost to the Kentucky frontcourt.
Last season at Missouri, Mitchell averaged just over 18 points, 5 rebounds and over 3.5 **** ists in nearly 34 minutes per game while being named Second Team All-SEC.
As Kentucky was looking to fill its 15th and final roster spot, it's hard to imagine a better way to fill it in the second half of August than with a guy who was top-10 in the conference in scoring last season while shooting nearly 55 percent from the floor and almost 39 percent from three.
The UK Volleyball team is back in action today, playing its second game in the AVCA First Serve Showcase in Milwaukee against the fourth-ranked team in the country, Pittsburgh.

After how quarterback Cam Ward performed as a rookie for the Tennessee **** ans last season, it is difficult to imagine how he could be a viable option in fantasy football this season. However, ESPN fantasy **** yst Eric Moody believes otherwise. Here is what he said:
"Ward is someone I'm targeting as my QB3 in superflex formats. He struggled early as a rookie but improved after Tennessee's Week 10 bye, throwing 10 touchdowns to just one interception. Ward averaged 15.5 fantasy points over his final four full starts and ranked eighth in pass attempts despite taking a league-high 55 sacks. Tennessee upgraded his situation by hiring Brian Daboll as the OC, adding help along the O-line, signing Wan'Dale Robinson and drafting Carnell Tate fourth overall. The pieces are in place for a Year 2 breakout."
As Moody pointed out, Ward has much more to work with at the wide receiver position. Last season, his top receiver was Elic Ayomanor. Now, he has Calvin Ridley, Robinson and Tate who are all ahead of Ayomanor on their first unofficial depth chart. Nonetheless, a breakout year seems like a stretch.
The improvements on the offensive line should help minimize sacks, but Ward had a problem in college trying to make something happen and getting sacked as a result. That problem resurfaced in the NFL, which is part of why it took until mid-December for Ward to go one game without getting sacked.
He improved as the season progressed, so his numbers should be better this season. However, Ward is not someone to consider in standard fantasy leagues and should not be drafted too high in superflex leagues, and would only be a QB3 in those leagues.

The Bills and defensive tackle Ed Oliver had decided not to announce that Oliver's young son had died in late June. The news was reported on Friday. It forced the Bills to acknowledge it on Saturday.
After Saturday's preseason game, coach Joe Brady addressed the situation.
"I'm a parent, right?" Brady told reporters. "And ever since I found out, it's really hard and I can't fathom what he's going through. There's really not words to describe it. As a coach, as a father, it's my job to be what he needs right now, and that's loving him and giving him the privacy that he deserves. Whatever it looks like, no matter how someone might want to handle it, it's however he wants us to handle it, and go through it."
The apparent justification for reporting the development before Oliver or the Bills could announce it arose from the perception that the Bills possibly were attributing his absence from the team to a phantom injury.
"[H]e's not here right now because of an injury and he's dealing with that," Brady said. "This wasn't the reason why he's not here, but it's unfortunate, the way that it came out, but I respect a lot of you guys and you might have known about it, and [the way you] handled it. That's part of journalism as well, but I appreciate your guys' hearts and understanding the human elements of it. It's hard. You know, it's hard when I see him and I can't imagine. I haven't had the words since, and I don't really have the words, but all I can do is just be there for him . . . in whatever way that he needs."

Olympic pairs' figure skating gold medalists Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara announced their engagement.
"Through both the happy times and the difficult ones, we've shared so many moments together, supporting each other every step of the way," was posted on their social media accounts. "Over time, we became irreplaceable parts of each other's lives — someone neither of us could imagine life without. We're truly happy to finally be able to share this news with all of you."
At the Milan Cortina Games, Miura and Kihara became the first pairs' team from ****** an to win an Olympic medal of any color. It was a rally for gold from fifth place after the short program.
It ended up being the last competition of their career. Miura and Kihara announced their retirement two months after the Games.
"While our competitive careers are coming to an end, we truly feel that we gave it our all, and have no regrets," their retirement post read. "We are proud of everything we went through, and feel we gained so much along the way. The two of us will now take on new challenges so that we can bring wider recognition to pair skating in ****** an. We hope that we can count on you to follow us on our journey."

That's one of the things that keeps me up at night with Willie. "But he's a tremendous player. He has a certain tenacity about him when he goes and plays a game, especially at center, and he commands that line. It's really special to see and I'm excited to see where his game goes."

What's definite is this — the University of Rhode Island will visit Merrimack for a Friday night kickoff, the No. 7 team in the nation looking for a third straight Football Championship Subdivision playoff berth.
"I'm in the middle of it, but I'm trying not to think about it too much," Peña said after Friday morning's practice at Meade Stadium. "I've got Aug. 28 — that's really what I'm focused on. It's Week 1."
Truthfully, that everyday preparation is all Peña can control. State courts, circuit courts, a governing body in college sports that keeps getting put on the deck through temporary injunctions and restraining orders — it's a dizzying current state of affairs. Fleming has been in coaching for more than four decades and couldn't imagine such changes when he started out in the 1980s.

Bayern Munich supervisory board member Uli Hoeneß is facing an unusual legal dispute away from the football pitch.
Per Tz (as captured by iMiaSanMia), the Bayern Munich honorary president has reportedly been sued by a neighbor over two trees allegedly planted on his property in Bad Wiessee. The neighbor, whose property borders Hoeneß's land to the south, claims the trees were planted in an area where planting is prohibited.
Not shockingly, Hoeneß disputes that interpretation, maintaining that the area in question does not fall within the restricted zone. The case is scheduled to be heard at the Munich II Regional Court next Thursday, with the dispute ultimately coming down to whether the two trees were planted in an area where such planting is permitted.
Hoeneß has declined to comment ahead of the hearing.
It is certainly an unusual situation for one of Bayern Munich's most influential figures, who has spent decades dealing with much bigger issues surrounding the club and German football. You have to imagine that Hoeneß might have (maybe!) had a little chuckle about the dispute.

Another day, another fall practice for the Washington Huskies.
That's how it felt for the first hour or so as Jedd Fisch's team went through its fourth straight day of practice before the entire roster, and the majority of the coaching staff formed two lines in the middle of the field. On one end stood senior punter Hunter Green, and on the other stood defensive quality control coach Korey Rush and defensive tackle Darin Conley.
Green, fresh off an appearance on the Ray Guy Award watch list, sent a pair of end-over-end punts booming down towards first Rush, and then Conley, both of whom secured the kicks with ease. Rush's catch meant the coaching staff got the rest of the day off, while Conley's meant that the day was over for the players ahead of Saturday night's mock game.
The celebration at midfield, as you might imagine, was raucous.
With the second scrimmage of the fall on the horizon, it was a lighter day for the Huskies in a practice that mainly consisted of individual drills and special teams work, but secondary coach John Richardson's unit still showed up, as junior nickelback Rahshawn Clark made one of the more notable plays for the day.

Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad has delivered a blunt verdict on Pakistan, describing them as a "poor side" and backing England to complete a 3-0 clean sweep in the three-Test series.

Mohamed Salah's exit, for instance, remains unaddressed. Liverpool desperately need to find some sort of goal output from wide areas or they'll sorely miss his 12 goals and **** ists from even a sub-par season.
A loan move for Ronald Araújo at least puts off the decision on replacing Ibrahima Konaté for another year, but there also hasn't been any sign that Liverpool will find extra goals to make up for Hugo Ekitiké's long-term injury.
And then there's whatever's happening in midfield. The middle of the pitch wasn't well-balanced last season and many **** umed it would be addressed this summer.

Reporters on the scene said that Dayo Odeyingbo held onto Burrow's jersey and refused to let go, causing a brief scuffle that thankfully did not escalate further.
You imagine there will be fights over contact. Especially the guys constantly colliding in the trenches, but for a defender to make contact with an opposing team's quarterback in this situation is fairly uncalled for.
I won't go as far as to say it was dirty as much as it is just a dumb thing to do. It is not surprising to hear this led to a fight.

It's hard to imagine Purdue won't be better in the secondary a season after the Boilers ranked 117th nationally in points per game allowed. Purdue totaled four interceptions all last season, ranking last in the Big Ten.
